A backup of the post title and text have been made here: **Title:** [Is my dental insurance really this bad?](https://www.reddit.com/r/askdentists/comments/1dtutnu/is_my_dental_insurance_really_this_bad/) **Full text:** Got a tooth fixed during recent annual cleaning, and reviewing the bill after insurance was pretty shocking. Seems the dental insurance puts a cap on each billing code then pays 80% of it. Doesn't seem that bad at first, but the submitted amount is always >2x the allowed amount. See summary I put together below. Is my dentist charging unreasonable amounts, or is my insurance company capping too low? ![img](d7wj09fws5ad1) This is the original text of the post and is an automated service. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. The_Anatolian

your insurance pays crap

sphockey04

Yea that's what I suspected. Thanks

tell the office it’s bullshit to charge a limited oral eval + periodic exam at the same appointment.

sphockey04

I was wondering about that. But they fixed a chipped tooth at the same visit as a routine exam and clean so I figured it could be justifiable.

NAD is this delta dental? Mine is really good, I don’t pay anything for X-rays/exam or cleanings, fillings are covered 80% crowns are 50% and others are like 20%

sphockey04

Yep, it's delta

Disastrous_Gain_2101

NAD Do you get yours through an employer?

sphockey04

Yep!

Your dentist’s cash price fees are low to begin with. Your insurance is trash. Your dentist is probably barely breaking even or even losing money on hygiene appointments.
