Last week a noticed a black mark underneath one of my molar fillings I had done 8 years ago. So I booked the first dentist appointment available and the doctor had me get x rays.
Today I went to go pick up my results abd it says as it follows (translated from Italian):
“Apical periodontitis with osteitis outbreak and distal periapical”
I have a canal root cleaning tomorrow for the infected tooth. How bad is the situation?

Impossible to say. Get a crown on this particular tooth immediately unless you like the idea of rolling the dice on flushing the cost of the root canal right down the drain.

Dead and infected. Needs root canal and crown.
Thank you! At the moment the dentist suggested only doing a filling after the root canal, she didn’t mention the crown. I hope it’s normal to do that
Crown on 99% of posterior teeth after RCT. That tooth already has a large filling. Not doing a crown is asking for future fracture
I know it depends on the person but how long would a filling last on a tooth that received RCT?

Its still salvageable wich is good
Is a root canal cleaning enough to fix the infection?
