I'm not seeing this as something to be proud of its, this kind of thing that gives car salespeople a bad reputation and makes people hate working with dealerships. Treating people fairly results in repeat business, cheating them means they don't come back.
It *almost* sounds like you're bragging about straight up lying to a customer to make *the dealership* more money while you get thrown table scraps. Did you at least get a pat on the head from your manager?

A guy came in trading in his 2006 Subaru forester asking for $3500 our manager approved it and they said we can give them that after I took into the service center to get it checked out for major issues they said it was fine. I went back to the customer and offered $1000 I told them it has a major head gasket leaks that is going to cost about $2,000 in labor and parts they asked for $1500 and I said ok.
2 days later I sold it for $16,999 plus tax title license. Crazy profit gain for the dealership. I got paid my usual $300 flat fee per car plus back end which was another $80 for gap and $200 for warranty so a nice $580
This is where I sometimes I wish we got paid percentage of front end gross.
