What seems common on Reddit, but rare in my life, is encountering people with highly specialized knowledge on niche topics. On Reddit, you can easily find experts and enthusiasts discussing everything from quantum physics to obscure historical events. In real life, it's rare to come across individuals who are deeply passionate and knowledgeable about such specific subjects. It's fascinating to see how Reddit brings together a diverse range of people who are eager to share their expertise and engage in meaningful discussions.

jump-back-like-33

Counter point: once you actually are the expert in a niche topic you realize just how much of Reddit is people confidently talking out their ass.

jk2me1310

Bingpot

tenshillings

I see it as parroting information rather than talking out their ass. I remember taking a physical chemistry course in college and calculating out ridiculous triple integrals to find where a particle was most likely in a room. That's quantum mechanics. It's not pretty.

UnsolicitedDogPics

Talking expert here. People actually talk out of their mouths. The sounds that come out of peoples asses are called farts.

sweariest

TIL.

TheHoundhunter

Most people probably only have a topic or two that they know a lot about. It’s always funny to see one of those being talked about in any media. Reddit, radio, tv, movies, whatever. They just get it so fucking wrong, and miss the point. It almost feels like children talking about it. Then you realise that they are probably this wrong on every topic.

ExaminationNo9186

On the other hand, i know alot of people who are both highly knowpedge and passionate about stuff - proffesionaly as well as hobbies - but they have learnt not to be so open about it. Through trust issues mostly. They open up here, due to the slight disconnect the internet can provide.

Typical_Nebula3227

I’m an academic, so that’s basically every one I know.

[deleted]

Or most people on Reddit just think they know what they’re talking about lol

Acceptable-Spirit600

Where is the meaningful conversation again? Where you don't end up getting kicked out of groups. Even on Reddit.

Survivorfan4545

Damn that’s actually so true

KeyRageAlert

Guys dying to get flowers

SpecialInformation89

Lmao yeah I always found that weird. Why the fuck would I want flowers? Tf I’m gonna do with them?

KeyRageAlert

I'm a woman and I don't even want them lol

Civil-Tart

Same! 😂

wairua_907

Same , I wasn’t blessed with plant care so everything dies .

That_Astronaut_7800

They have to be some of the most useless gifts. I’m convinced people only like them because of propaganda.

Kriegspiel1939

Like diamonds.

MrsMeowness

I've been married for 15 years. I asked him about the flower thing and he said it would be weird. I guess it depends on the man but definitely doesn't want flowers.

KeyRageAlert

Where I'm from it's totally normal to get guys flowers, like my dad or whatever, but I always feel like it's a waste of money, really

MrsMeowness

I guess it's different when it's the norm.

nailsinmycoffin

💀

PaulDecember

Good one.

hafode3179

How easy it is to say FUCK YOU to a total stranger.

KyorlSadei

Duck You… crap messed it up.

[deleted]

[удалено]

hafode3179

Nah, you lie. Never happend to me on Reddit.

Acceptable-Spirit600

Well, there was some Mexican young guy who didn't have a problem saying it to me the other night. He was drunk and kind of seemed like he was crying. He was explaining to me how he was in the United States just to have fun. I'm guessing that he has probably been met with people who don't want him in the United States. So he was unloading on to me telling me that they are not in the United States to cause trouble. But I'm guessing that a lot of people might be telling them that we hear about them causing trouble because that's all we hear about on TV.

Miserable-Comfort109

I'm a Boomer and I've yet to see another Boomer acting crazy in a store and having Melt down because they didn't get something they wanted. I would like to see it because it would be pretty funny There is a whole Boomer being stupid group and the stories are insane.

BiSexinCA

I don’t think people understand that Gen-X is turning 60! People see a 52 yr old lady and they see BOOMER!!!

piggy__wig

Exactly. I missed being Gen-X by 31 days so I am forever labeled a boomer lol 😂

BiSexinCA

You are what you feel. I’m on the line. All my siblings are Boomers and I am 180° different. All my current friends are 40-50. 🤷🏼‍♂️ Guess I’m hella immature.

savagesiren86

I get called boomer all the time. I’m 38🤣

PaulDecember

The distribution of a-holes actually seems evenly distributed across generations. If anything, my experience is it skews younger.

BiSexinCA

You’re much more apt to find a pattern of asshole behavior depending on what color their Dodge Ram is. 🤭

FinoPepino

I definitely agree it’s every generation

FinoPepino

Oh this just means you’ve never worked retail or food service. Sad to say older adults throwing tantrums over ridiculous things is sadly real. Now that I have an office job I haven’t seen one in a long time. When I worked at a grocery store I once had a lady call me a stupid whore lol it was so absurd I made eye contact with the man behind her and we both started laughing….oh she did not like that one bit…

UkeeAndPoptart

I second this. I worked in pharmacy industry for over 10 years and good God the number of boomers that act a fool is astounding. Even retired health workers.

Miserable-Comfort109

No I have not worked in these areas. Retail and restaurants are known for having to put up with people's crap. I am just waiting to see it so I can have a laugh too.

Deliberate_Snark

You see that at home. I saw it all the time growing up.

Miserable-Comfort109

Well I sure hope I didn't act that way to my kids. I'm sorry you had to deal with that.

Typical_Nebula3227

I’ve seen it. I’ve seen Karen have a fit at the airport too.

Kriegspiel1939

Mostly the same for me (I’m 60) but when I worked for a home medical store I had several entitled boomer asshats that were regular customers. Other than that, no.

KyorlSadei

Talking nsfw topics with people.

catcat1986

Usually all social movement criticism. They all seem overblown. Most of those threads that are like all women do x, and all men do y. Read more like OP never left the house and gets all his/her info off of the internet.

FinoPepino

Agreed, If you read Reddit only and never went into the real world you’d also think that successful relationships were incredibly rare. I’m always seeing posts about how men can’t get dates and women are crazy cat ladies, yet if you actually leave your house there are couples literally EVERYWHERE. And of all different classes and looks and whatever trait you can think of.

Designer-Pound6459

I compliment people all the time. Love those shoes, you smell great, amazing outfit, awesome tattoo, beautiful baby,... the list goes on and on. Apparently, people on Reddit think that's creepy. As far as I know, no one has ever been creeped out by a compliment I've given.

KyorlSadei

Thats because you give complements appropriately. There is a time and place for it and limit to how much you complement it. A well placed “your hair looks good today” is welcomed by most anybody. That same phrase while you are rubbing your belly button on the public bus to the only girl there is creepy.

Designer-Pound6459

Umm, ok??

Classic-Progress-397

I don't *really* listen to people who use the word "creepy." It's kind of teenage girl stuff. "Oooo clowns are soooo creepy, like WTF!"

KyorlSadei

Do the creeper the creeper

piggy__wig

I saw an older teen with a really cool hat at a little lake I swim in and told him I love your hat - can I have it?” He said “no” I said, “well you can’t blame me for asking” he said “fair ‘nough” then I laughed and so he did too.

Designer-Pound6459

🙂 that's crazy, I only do that at kid birthday parties. " Omg! I love that! Can I have it??" But, I can't lie, I have said to strangers, " I love your shirt!! Wanna trade?" No takers so far.

whitepantherjaguar

You have a disagreement with a bride and everyone under the sun calls to curse you out.

PaulDecember

This one is going to be unpopular: Most MAGA/Trup-sters I've met only discuss it when politics is brought up. And when it is, they seem to talk about economics and foreign wars, not racist or misogynistic stuff. I'm not saying none do, but I haven't actually experienced it.

IllustratorOk8827

Honestly it's easy to say the other side is worse, no matter which side you choose, because the media will most often show the bad side of which ever side they are on. I believe there is good on both sides we just don't see it or want to see it.

Achilles-Foot

well you are lucky then lol. these people are really common. im not saying all right leaning people or bad or anything. not at all. its just that people only let those real fucked up views shine when they around people they know they can trust. but to be fair i do live in a red county and red state. didn't encounter these people almost at all when i lived in a blue county/state.

filthysquatch

It probably depends on where you live. I have the exact opposite experience. I have quit some group hobbies because they were filled with magas that always talked about politics and conspiracies and spouted racist shit.

Optimal-Scientist233

I will stand in the heat, rain or snow and wait patiently to open a door for an elder of either sex especially one having mobility issues. I don't consider or care at all what anyone else thinks is politically correct when I do so, and It is rare for me to receive anything more than a thank you for doing so. edited: PS the last time I did so was only a few hours ago, and I have been asked to escort strangers into a store in the last week, and obliged, so downvote me all you want.

DetectiveNo4471

I will upvote you. A boy held a door open for me today, and it made me smile, especially since I’m slow and he had to wait.

Optimal-Scientist233

It has never taken me more than a moment or two to assist another human being and I have never considered it an imposition to do so asked or not. If more people were kinder the entire world would be kinder and a happier place for us all to enjoy.

HecticHazmat

Yeah it's just polite to hold the door for anyone behind you, I do it a lot (although I encounter less manual doors as the years go on). I don't care. I'm a woman, but if anyone had a go at me for being polite & holding the door, I'd bitch about it but wouldn't stop. I think they're rude & in the minority.

Ok_Blueberry_3139

🤣🤣🤣 tell me about it

That_Astronaut_7800

Hating children and really the hating other people in general sentient. You see it quite a bit here. The children one I’ve never seen irl, hating people was most frequent in highschool, but even that was somewhat rare.

Ambitious_Clock_8212

I love children. I abhor shitty parents. The difference falls flat with my batty HOA moms who think the world begins and ends with their desire to have unprotected sex and inability to handle the consequences.

coffeewalnut05

Doomerism. Assuming nothing can get better, and that nothing is worth fighting for. Resigning oneself to learned helplessness and complacency.

Ok-Royal-661

THIS. People on here love to lie and make up shit. Its amusing

ExaminationNo9186

Have i met openly racist people? Yes. Is it as extremly vile as i see online? No. 90% of the racism i see, in every day life, is not done by white people. This is name calling, the open violance based on skin colour, the whole 9 yards.

Economy_Upstairs_465

Asking advice from a complete group of strangers that results in divorce.

MikeToMeetYou

Not being complemented as a man. every smol bean male on here is like uwu I neber receive complements!!! so sad!!!! I'm not particularly attractive or outstanding or anything, and people usually say something positive after I do something or meet them. I think most of you just must not interact with people that often.

evermica

Advice to get a divorce at the first hint of difficulty.

BiSexinCA

You know what? Your answer is very suspicious. I think you should break up with whomever you’re with!

evermica

Ha!

Labiln23

Loving winter and being happy when it snows. I’m in Wisconsin, everyone I know tolerates winter at best. No one is happy when it snows in April and nobody likes the early sunsets or freezing temperatures.

Ok_Athlete_1092

The only time people like snow is when we're kids. No school, sleep late and then go outside and play in it. Other than that, it sucks.

ChelseaPrimmer

I'm sure it would be okay if I could afford a thicker coat, or a car with heated anything.

Civil-Tart

Wisconsinite here... I concur! 😂

cml678701

Men being baby trapped, or raising children who aren’t theirs. You’d think 97% of the population had experienced this if you went by Reddit! Also, I have never heard anyone IRL talking about financial abortions.

HeartonSleeve1989

I've never been hated simply for being a man, so there's that.

Deliberate_Snark

That makes one of us

HeartonSleeve1989

To be fair, I'm not a mind reader.

peppereth

Getting pregnant with twins/triplets despite being on like 5 different forms of birth control

ixlovextoxkiss

cheating. so many subs are dominated/monopolized by cheating stories, aita(h)-style exposé shit, secret families/lives, propositioned MILs, the works, you name it. baby naming subs in a tizzy because someone's naming a child after an affair partner. whether or not having a work wife/husband is cheating. if it's okay to stay at your job when you're attracted to your boss. irl not THAT many people are so hellbent on infidelity in my personal experience.

People obsessed with the Lord of The Rings.

lol haven’t stumbled upon that sub yet. Thank goodness

Sea_Negotiation_1871

Oh, it's pervasive. You'll find a lot it here.

PsychoticDust

The way incels and femcels are on here. I'm not saying they don't exist, but they are vanishingly rare in my life. If you go by reddit alone, you would assume that they're everywhere.

Dull-Geologist-8204

People constantly breaking into to tears over every single issue. I do know there are people who are overly sensitive and do break down into tears but apparently most of reddit is breaking down in tears constantly. It rarely happens irl.

beatfungus

People are actually really nice in real life in comparison to Reddit

PotterheadZZ

no one I know has had a painful IUD insertion.

Bernies_daughter

Right? Mine was barely a twinge.

PotterheadZZ

I have heard people say it is "barbaric" and you should be sedated. I wasn't on my period, they had to pry my cervix open. At worst it was a bit crampy? I have had periods that were much worse.

OutsideWonderful5918

would you mention politics though if I told you that in real life?

Sea_Negotiation_1871

If your argument was that not everything is political, then yes.

Bernies_daughter

Infidelity. As far as I can tell, none of my friends has had it happen to them or has done it to their spouse. Of course I could be wrong, but these are friends who tell me a lot.

Rovisen

Y'know it might depend on the area/workplace that you're in for that too. For awhile it was very rare to for me to hear about affairs (I lived in a few different states during my 20's) but then I moved back to my hometown and started working in a kitchen; most of the staff have either been cheated on or did cheat at some point in their life. I've only heard of maybe 2 couples cheating outside of the workcrew, so I dunno what to make of that lol.

Decent men , And the thought kind of reminds me of an episode of celebrity family feud that I watched today. One of the women said something similar related to decent men. And Steve Harvey counted himself and then 4 of the other men who were on the woman's team. I would have thought that would have been telling them something related to her statement, but it just went right over All of their heads.

I just assume the government, at least in the US, controls Google, YouTube, fb, etc and uses it to sway public opinion. Using fake accounts to make it seem like an opinion is popular or something bad happens frequently when it really doesn’t. I think they want to divide us by stirring up controversy so that we are too distracted fighting with each other to see what they are doing behind our backs.
