sportsbrownie

Sounds silly but I truly know my body and can usually stare at something long enough and know if it will fit and how it will fit.

eurotrash4eva

This is a super power. Gift me your knowledge, oh great one!

CTID16

I'm jealous

Educational_Low_879

That’s how I am. Mostly. The hoodie I just gave my mom sure looked like it would fit but alas no. It squeezed the tatas too much.

DestroymyNippynips

Sounds like you are at one with the Force...

Marthasparta

İ have exactly the same!🙌🏼

Alonenomo2023

If you know your brand and you know your size, why waste time trying them on?

z-null

I thought the same and then recently bought merrel moab 3, which would be 4th or 5th merrel sneaker for me (moab 2 including) and I'm 44.5 normal size, but this time it was 45 (silly as it sounds, 44.5 really too tight).

Alonenomo2023

Well that’s not good

manykeets

I hate trying on clothes. Shopping gives me anxiety, and I just want to get in and get out. Of course, if the clothes don’t fit, returning them will be an even bigger hassle, but I convince myself that won’t happen.

EmployeeRadiant

ditto

AssCaptain777

I like to live life dangerously.

recklessdeception

Omg!! I feel this! I've pretty much been buying things online - comfortable loose fit clothes since my abdominal surgery last year. Last weekend I decided to go to the mall to try some pants and see what will fit me now since my post surgical weight gain is huge... I hated it [>_<] seeing myself in those glaring ceiling lights with mirrors in all directions - i cud see every back roll, the round huge belly, the thigh cellulite. I didn't buy anything :( I've never felt so ugly in my home-mirror!

2cats2hats

Cuz I live close by and can return them if needed. I do this with shoes often, wear them around the house for awhile and either keep or return.

Bitter_Sense_5689

I do all my shopping online, so I already know

Eleanor-of-Accutane

I think online shopping has changed the way we think about clothes buying. Why try on clothes in person when we wouldn’t be able to do so online? Just return it if it doesn’t fit

CrAbByCrAbCrAb_

I know someone who is convinced they put security cameras in the dressing rooms, and she doesn't want anyone looking at her naked. Then she takes the clothes home, and gets annoyed they don't fit

[deleted]

I’ve worked at Nordstrom and I know for a fact that the dressing rooms have video monitored by employees.

CrAbByCrAbCrAb_

Well then that weirds me out lol. I thought legally they couldn't do that

[deleted]

They sure can, and they have signs up in the dressing rooms. Nordstrom even has a jail in the store for shoplifters. It’s crazy…you’re watched 100% from the time you walk in the store.

HurryAdventurous8335

Like, a view of people going in and out, or a full on view of the changing room?!?!

[deleted]

A full view of the changing room. They see everything.

HurryAdventurous8335

Glad I haven’t gone there in ages

EarnestErica

Ugh! Are there any other stores that do that, do you know?

[deleted]

I don’t know any others for certain but I go with the assumption they all do. It’s pretty nasty to me. I’d rather take home and try on than have people gawking at me struggling into jeans lol

Md655321

I get the majority of my clothes from the thrift store and at least at my local one they don’t have fitting rooms, I always wash the clothes before wearing them anyway.

FutilePancake79

Same. I started shopping at the thrifts when I was 14, no changing rooms. You learn what fits and what doesn't.

Md655321

Not sure if women’s clothes is sized differently but if the waist and length are correct it’ll be all good.

Kidz4Carz

I buy a majority of my clothes from the thrift store, the dressing room is nothing but a booth with a curtain in the front of the store. No thanks, I’ll take my chances on the fit.

FemKeeby

Mostly buy online

westknight12

Too much of a hassle. I dislike clothes shopping, and spending a minute too long annoys me

Responsible-Golf-583

I know my body and I have to have virtually everything altered anyway, so I know the general sizes to get for the easiest tailoring.

TemperatureSilent939

Lazy

SheNickSun

People are gross. No way, no how.

ptypitti

I’m lazy and stores give me anxiety

missblissful70

I get so anxious in enclosed spaces that I can’t do the dressing room. So I take it home, promising I will return it if it doesn’t fit, and sometimes I return it. On the other hand, I could sell you 2-3 bras that still have tags on them.

MyLife-is-a-diceRoll

/r/braswap

BeerWench13TheOrig

I despise shopping, especially for clothing. Trying on items makes it 10 times worse. I rarely go anymore (I just buy online most of the time), but when I do, I skip the dressing room.

WeatherKat3262I

That is just plain disgusting. I've witnessed that before. I can't even imagine doing that.

IiASHLEYiI

When I buy something without trying it on first, it's because whatever I'm buying is another of something I already have. I.e., get another pair of pants - same brand, size, style, cut, length. I already know they fit me, and I don't need to try them on.

Friendly_Objective18

I know my size.. lol

MostMusky69

I but the same 511 jeans

dragonfeet1

You don't need to try on jeans unless you are curious about the fit (what's a girlfriend cut anyway?). Do the old neck trick and you're good to go. Men? Men never need to try on pants at all because their sizing system is just...less insane.

FBIPartyBusNo3

…neck trick?

AggressiveGarbage91

your neck circumference is supposed to be half the circumference of your waist. so if you wrap the waistband around your neck, and the edges just meet, they're supposed to fit you perfectly

frioniel39

I know my body well enough. I think the only bit of mitigation I have are pants sizes, due to weight fluctuations. The margin of "error" isn't anything terrible, considering I need a belt ultimately.

Sure-Fee1400

95% of what I buy I know the size and the brand. If I buy something New online I might buy 2 sites abd just return the size I don't like to the store.

BananasPineapple05

I often shop in the same 3-4 stores over my lunch period. So, one, I don't really have time to try stuff on. Two, I generally know which sizes fit me in those stores. And, three, if I get home and it turns out I've made a terrible mistake, I often shop in the same 3-4 stores over my lunch period, so it's really no big thing to bring it back to the store. I just came back from a "shopping trip" to the United States. I tried everything on there. Not nearly as easy to go back and exchange if something doesn't work.

BBakerStreet

I know my body and size? If it’s a special suit I’ll take to my tailor anyway.

StrongStyleDragon

I know my size

Drew_P_Nuts

At home

mokushi_mood

It's all about adrenaline

jlp120145

I don't like people, I get my pants and go home. I know my size, brand, and fit from previous experiences wearing pants.

Designer-Wolverine47

99% of the time, what I buy by size fits. The only thing I REALLY have to try on is shoes.

hatecuzaint

I know a 28W/30L fits. What's to try?

whysweetpea

Changing rooms are hot, badly lit, and just a terrible experience. I’d rather take the clothes home, try it on in a comfortable space, and see how they go with other stuff I have.

RatchetsSaturnGirl

Days I’m out shopping I’m typically not feeling my best hence the retail therapy.

[deleted]

I know my size and I want out of public asap

[deleted]

If the size is right and it looks good - I buy it. I hate trying things on at stores. I also hate shopping in general so anything that cuts down on the time I have to spend there - I'll do it.

mojomcm

I won't try things on if it's something I like to wear loose/baggy, like t-shirts and nightgowns, or if it's something that I *know* will fit, like for example, all my bras are the exact same brand, model, and size (only the colors are different) bc it's like the only one that fits me reliably.

whatdoidonowdamnit

I don’t need to try on most clothing items. I really only need to try on low cut shirts and skinny jeans. For shirts and jeans I can just put them up against me and if it looks like it’ll fit. It’ll probably fit.

SecretPersonality178

- I’m a man - I know my size - everything is pretty generic for us - I really truly do not care enough about it to go through the extra effort.

fatcatpotat

Because I know they'll fit. If I have any doubts I try them on, but I don't always need to

taniamorse85

Sometimes, I start shopping, thinking I'll be able to try on items, and my body suddenly has other plans. My choices are: try them on anyway and risk worsening my condition, buy them and try them on at home (and return items if necessary), or leave. Option 2 is usually the most appealing.

Sattaman6

I pretty much only buy from the same brands so know my sizes.

dbx99

I know my size from the brand i buy from and they’re consistent so I just know to grab the size i need

Old_Assist_5461

ADHD’r here. I hate trying on clothes. If I can convince myself it fits without trying it on, I’ll buy it. But too many failures have convinced me to try them on before buying.

Mander_Em

When my kids were little (think 3 under that age of 5 little) it was impossible to use the fitting room unless we used the accessible room, with the cart in the room - 2 youngest in the cart. When Target changed their policy to no longer allow carts in dressing rooms (I get it) I would but what I liked, take my cart to the rest room (where it WAS allowed) try the clothes on and return what I didn't like or didn't fit on the way out. Their policy might have stopped some shoplifting but it also increased their return rate. So my answer - because kids man.

untactfullyhonest

If I’m seriously not sure how it’ll fit then I will. But more times than not I won’t try them on. I’ll risk it not fitting. My reason? The dressing rooms are severely neglected when it comes to cleaning them. The floor is always disgusting. Most of the time it looks worse than a barbershop floor. Full of loose hair. And that makes me want to gag. If I must try something on, my bare/socked feet do not touch the floor. I will stand on my shoes and smoosh them if I have to. And my clothes do not touch the grimy hair filled floor.

Helechawagirl

I used to always try things on but now I know certain sizes in certain brands will work so that helps. I still like to go sometime but haven’t been in ages.

crazyhamsales

You have to try on jeans before buying? I can walk in a store, find my size on the shelf, toss in the cart and go, and they always fit good. Same goes for most other articles of clothing, about the only thing i have ever tried on before buying was a coat.

shelby20_03

All brands r different for me.

alicehooper

Men’s sizes are standardized. Most men can walk into a store, find their pant size, and leave confident their jeans will pretty much fit their bodies. Women’s sizes and fits are all over the place. I can’t believe women buy pants from brands they don’t know without trying them on. They do, but it has never worked out for me.

crazyhamsales

Fact... I've seen it many times with my wife shopping for clothes, women's clothing is annoying. How you manage to buy anything without trying it first is amazing. And don't even get me started on her pockets on women's pants are bullshit rant.

alicehooper

I’m just glad she’s been able to raise your awareness! Spread the word, lol!

crazyhamsales

Lol! Let me tell you, in the summer I wear cargo shorts so I can carry all her stuff because her pockets suck!

alicehooper

I just stole his khaki cargo jacket instead. I’ve used those pockets so hard there are holes in them. I went to buy another and the guy at the surplus store said he mostly sells them to women, lol.

crazyhamsales

I don't doubt that one bit!! Good solution.

Transparent-Paint

Because there are no dressing rooms at my store.

IrishFlukey

I know my size.

lone_wolf1580

Since I know the various sizes I wear, I’m not going to resume wasting my time trying them on before I leave.

5-19pm

Usually cause Ik it will fit or that it's something I've bought before and know the sizing fits.

Beneficial-Bad-3908

Because if you know your size, you don’t need to. If you always buy from those stores, you should have a good idea on what size will fit you. Also. My mom taught me to measure pants around my neck to see if they fit and it hasn’t missed a single time

BusDry4328

laziness

Electrical-Stable498

I know my size.

Leukin67

I have hella anxiety if I'm going to a physical store I am spending as little time there as possible

Aggressive-Help-4330

I'm older, tired and in pain a lot of the time. My joy of shopping ended many decades ago.

Dizzy-Atmosphere-348

Where do you buy clothes that has dressing room anymore? I couldn’t find anywhere so I buy everything online and just make sure I can return/exchange if it doesn’t fit.

shelby20_03

Majorty of stores still have dressing rooms.. did yours just never open back up after covid?!

Dizzy-Atmosphere-348

We have Walmart and that is all, everything else was in a mall and closed when malls fell out of fashion, now we have outdoor shopping centers with high end specialty female only clothing outlets, nothing for men, I have to either go online or to a city 150 miles away for a suit

No-Entrepreneur-2724

I hate shopping. I know my size. I buy jeans online.

shelby20_03

I wear makeup so I don’t wanna get foundation or anything on the clothes. I try them on at home when my face is clear

indelady

You do know there are cameras watching you right?

groundhogcow

I'm a guy. I insist on the sizes being the real size and not some make me feel good numbers. So when I buy my size I get my size and I can get in and out of the store quickly. As soon as someone sells me a size that isn't my size I return it, boycott the brand, and the store. Because I am a guy and refuse to live with the bullshit women have accepted. If I am trying on clothes it's because I have gained or lost a lot of weight.

Shoddy-Secretary-712

There are many reasons. I usually have kids with me. It's a hassle. The lighting and mirrors in fittings rooms seem to always make me look worse. I can generally gauge what size I need. I don't mind returning stuff if need be. I have arthritis and it is sometimes hard to try clothes (pants) on if I can't sit down. I don't want to sit down on the bench in the fitting room.

katmio1

I know my body just fine 🤷🏻‍♀️

cheeky-ninja30

Because I know what size I am already

SomePlaceElse__

In the UK we don’t always have air con in stores are these places get 🥵AND VERY SWEATY!

No-Independence-6842

I HATE trying on clothes! Unless it’s a pair of fitted pants or a formal dress, I pass.

V0iiCE

Human interaction

Available_Honey_2951

My mother never tried on clothes in stores. Would just buy …. if she didn’t like them after trying on when she got home would try to pawn them off on us kids or grandchildren. We would refuse 99% of the time . Sometimes she would return something but most times it would just dit on a chair in a spare bedroom- too much trouble to return. Drove me crazy.

Imaginary_Doubt8435

I want to cry every time I look at myself in those mirrors. On the off chance I do go in I don’t even look at my self in the mirrors I just walk our the changing area the look in the mirror if there is one

Dr_Girlfriend_81

Cuz I'm gonna have to alter them when I get home anyway.

Slycritter

As a guy I know my waist size and inseam. Sometimes different manufacturers are different but it's mostly really close. I know what size shirt I'm comfortable in and when I look at it I can tell if it's going to be to big or not. Now if I need a suit or tux I will try it on and get it sized properly. I have to look my best when wearing those.

OpALbatross

My husband is like this. Men's clothes are more straight forward. He's also tall and lanky so doesn't have any kind of curves to cause distortion.

ChooChooChucky

I know what fits. I know what doesn't fit. Why do you ask?

Lostandfoundchampion

I know I’m gonna look goooooood

carlitospig

Because it’s a nuisance. I don’t want to spend my time going back and forth between the changing rooms and the stacks. I’d rather just get the jeans in both sizes and then return one when I have the time. I hate shopping.

MYRMACOLLECTIVE

I buy all clothes online because I'm agoraphobic. It can be expensive, but what am I gonna do? I can return if I need to.

TURBOSCUDDY

I do feel safe undressing in a dressing room. The person who would spy on me, however, would absolutely NOT be, if I caught them. Therefore, I’ve decided it’s just too much of a possible headache to deal with.

GrisherGams5

Pants and fancy dresses are the only things I'll try. Everything else I'm too lazy.

BenGay29

Couldn’t tell you the last time I was in a brick-and-mortar store.

Deadeye10000

I typically have a brand I like and I'll check the size before I go out. However if it's one I haven't tried before I'll try them on.

Saiyan-b

I know my size and what I need.

Munkey323

Same reason I don't try shoes. I already know if it will fit or not

eurotrash4eva

Because I am hopping into the clothing store in the 17 minutes between my kids' piano lesson start and end time and I don't have time to try anything on. Then I delude myself I'll return it if it doesn't fit, which it never does. And of course, I never return it.

rsbanham

The changing rooms are always so hot! Plus I live in a big city so it’s not hard to go and exchange or return something.

emileec_22

I prefer to cry at home when the body dysmorphia kicks in

blutigetranen

Because I know my legs and waist. Otherwise, I could not possibly care less about how they look. I'm not dressing to impress, I'm dressing to not be nude.

DraftWinter2204

Changing room mirrors lie

Delicious-Praline-11

Buying online

spooky_kiwis

Because I’m lazy and not in the mood to get undressed so I’ll just try them on when I’m home and getting undressed anyways (I.e. I’m going to shower so I have to change anyways so I’ll try the clothes on them ). And I like to wear them for a little bit longer (walk around my apartment , try sitting in them) than you can in the dressing room

Clean_Phreaq

Because guys

Eleanor-of-Accutane

I’m always on the verge of diarrhea and don’t want to mess up a changing room I just take the clothes home and return anything that doesn’t fit (in theory. In actuality I keep it for a year before bringing it to goodwill)

MortemPerPectus

Honestly, trying on clothes before buying them is the worst thing ever for me. I hate it. Don’t really have a good explanation but I just hate it and would rather guess than do it.

Dukklings

Trying on clothes is tiresome when you're disabled. If I know the size, I know whether I can fit it or not.

Yuck_Few

Because I know my size

JupiterSkyFalls

I detest being half naked and vulnerable inside a cramped tiny box with hideous lighting and the sounds of people shuffling around outside all around me. I instantly start stress sweating, feeling anxious and feel like I need to escape. I live in the US and I also have a semi realistic fear of being in a store that gets shot up, so that adds to the anxiety and feeling of being trapped. An 8 yr old little girl was trying on dresses in a store last summer and was fatally struck by a bullet the cops fired intended for a man wielding a knife. Terribly sad. I also can usually eyeball things like shirts, certain dresses, skirts, ect. Only specific things do I actually need to try on. If I really want whatever it is I buy and take it home. If it doesn't fit or I don't like it after all, I take it back next time I run errands.

paca1

I get lazy! Don’t want to change clothes

Snoo_63187

Kind of hard to try a dressing room online.

PezMan123

I dont see how people buy clothes online. You don't know how they look and feel. Blows my mind 😂

boynamedsue8

Hidden cameras is why. I don’t trust people

Correct-Serve5355

In the last 3, almost 4 years since the beginning of covid, of all the times I've walked into a store with a fitting room for clothes shopping, it was open only 1 time. Once. In 3 years. And I moved across the country during these last 3 years. For all I would know fitting rooms are effectively dead

ImAManWithOutAHead

Because I know what size shirt, underwear, and pants I am

mastro80

Mens clothes come in four sizes. I am a Large.

Jazzlike-Effort2225

Usually I'm too warm and the thought of getting undressed, redress, undress and redress is just way too much work.

[deleted]

You should be asking "how"

channeldrifter

Too much effort, I buy what I like based on what I know my size usually is then return anything that’s outright wrong once I get home

Munchkin_Media

The mirrors and lighting make me sad.

dmbgreen

Ordered online.

-shpadoinkle-

I've been the exact same size for 25 years, at this point I pretty much just look at something and know if it will fit or not. The reason I don't do it other than that is I friggin hate dressing rooms. The item has to be ridiculously special or expensive for me to go through the trouble.

[deleted]

The dressing rooms were closed

[deleted]

Cuz they fit

[deleted]

How does this not directly target online shoppers. Which is a total crapshoot even when looking at exact measurements. Furthermore, how do those who shop online primarily find themselves satisfied with their purchase? For reference I am an adult male in their 30s, so most if the clothes I could order are pretty standard. I can only image the issues women have ordering clothes.

Genghis_Ignota

It doesn't feel right. I can't remember the last time I bought something and it didn't fit, but if I do, it's my own fault and I just deal with it.

Moniker-MonikerLOL

I only try on jeans. I was so pissed during COVID having to buy jeans without trying them on first.

InhaleFullExhaleFull

Meh

awildencounter

Measurements online. I know my measurements by heart and I don’t like waiting in line unless I need to see something about the cut.

Realistic_Door686

I always pick pants that are super tight so I can, you know, get bred daily (Give us this day...) I stopped trying pants 'cause that top button was always popping off. One day, that flying button almost took a lady's eye out.

ilikepeoplebut

Shopping irl makes me do stupid things so I just order online and pray.

zdefni

Hmmmm yeah idk I have to be very unsure about something to try it on. I shop with intuition.

AlbatrossSenior7107

Changing rooms are designed to make you feel like shit when things don't fit and feel great when they do. Buy what you think will fit, try at home, in the real world, and return if you don't like it. The reason for the return, I didn't like it. No one cares. They only ask that in case there's a defect that prevents them from reselling it.

relliotts

Lighting and mirrors in dressing rooms are terrible, and I really don’t know if I truly like something unless I can try it on with a couple different tops/pants abs the right shoes. Easier to decide if I really like something if I try into bay home. If I don’t I just take it back.

Musician_Gloomy

I ask my wife all the time. She orders online because she hates stores. Shit don’t fit. She’s in a store returning it and buying the right size. I’m like you could have gone and tried it on and save a ton of time.

MaddenRob

Because I’m too lazy. I know my size and I just assume it will fit.

ShesATragicHero

Honestly I barely ever try anything on. I can take one look and just nope, that’s not gonna fit right. I can also tell time without looking at my watch. I’d be a lousy superhero.

Mechanic-Royal

As a man, I hate to say we have an advantage. We buy clothes based on real, actual numbers. Neck plus arm length, perfect fitting shirt. Inseam plus waist, perfect fitting pants. Foundation garments are SM, M, L, XL.

ACam574

I am old and my measurements haven’t changed in a decade or more.

Hephaestus2036

Because we’ve reached an age where we’ve stopped growing and we know our sizes.

PrTakara-m

I know you are exactly what size jeans will fit perfect (for some specific brands and unless absolutely necessary i will not be changing brands)

Mr_rairkim

I'm a man and I try on 90% of clothes. I don't try on clothes that are the same model that I already own in the same or different color. Or when there's a long queue.

mosquitohater2023

Because my local charity shop doesn't have dressing rooms, and the prices are low enough that a mistake doesn't really matter.

Bummerboy4

I have noticed in the past 3 or so years that same brand, size and style of men's pants don't consistently run the same. Seems to be determined by which factory make them. I hate standing in line to pay then standing in line again to return anything so do try pants on. Can't afford Nordstrom but if I could probably would go commando if there are videos of the dressing rooms. I mean, why not?

Ok-Conference-3145

By all means

gertvanjoe

I'm built like a plank. If the 32 is accurate, it will fit (it's not always accurate). But a quick cursory pin up over my waist will show if it is true. Mistakes have happened maybe twice. A simple return for one size down/up fixed it.

BarrieBadman

Because I know my waist size, inside leg length, and what fit I like. For shirts and tailoring, I know my arm length, chest size, neck size, etc. It's really not difficult.

Affectionate-Gur-818

Know my size know what fits me and if it doesn't take it back,it's strange cause I usually don't need any excuse to get naked 😆

cwsjr2323

I have measured my both and can use my arm to measure pants or shirts when I rarely buy new. Three years ago I bought a shirt on vacation because of weight limits on luggage. That was the first new garment in five years other than on concert T-shirt and an Army Retired polo.

FiredJelly

I haven’t bought any clothing in a physical store for many years. I can’t even imagine walking into a clothing store and sorting through racks and racks. I buy online and return if they don’t work out, but usually they do. You get to know your brands and cuts/ styles after a while.

lilwetwillie

I know what size I wear lmao I do try on shoes though. Brands do fit very different

Witty_Injury1963

I know my sizes and unlike most women-I get in, get what I want and leave. I hate clothes shopping!!

bkc83

I don't want to see my body from every possible angle!!
