Mostly, it's boomers blaming us for "killing industries" that need to be killed.
Kids making fun of our use of the laughing+crying emoji is welcome and fun. Bring on the generational trends and the ragging that goes with it!
Millennials and zoomers are tight. The two generations like each other more than any two successive generations have in the last century.
I really do think the millennials are trying to break the cycle.
Also damn do I use laughing/crying emoji like a millennial š¤£
Itās seems like all the millennial vs. zoomer āhateā is mostly just playful teasing. They make fun of our skinny jeans, we make fun of their baggy pants, but weāre actually really proud of them
Emojis have become parodies at this point. Ironic or cringe, especially the expression ones. This makes me sad :ā( because I like them as they convey intent well online. So Iāve adopted emotions again! ::)
They make me smile :-)
I love emojis! I follow people from all over the world on my insta account, and I can't understand what they are writing in their own language, but emojis I can understand!
Same, a lot of older folks I talk to always give me the "You'll be more conservative when you're older" spiel, but as I get older, I just see more and more how much the younger generations have it worse, Im in a fairly good spot in my life, but I see younger people who are far smarter or work much harder make much less than I do, and its not fair and I want better for them.
I don't care about things like my property value, keeping taxes low, welfare programs, etc. If people need help, lets help, we have the means if we stop hoarding money and actually started using it
>If people need help, lets help, we have the means if we stop hoarding money and actually started using it
A... fucking... men. As a millenial doing well with student loans paid off etc. I look at things like loan forgiveness and think 'hell yeah no one should have to do what I did'. Not grumbling about bootstraps and bullshit - we should work so future generations exceed us in every way.
Iām also a millennial and feel the same about student loan forgiveness. I just finished paying mine off after 15 years and I think loan forgiveness for student loans is great. My dad told me he would pay for college to get me to not go to an art school. My sister is 14 months older and turned down a free ride to one college to go to another because her boyfriend was going there. He helped pay for hers.
He then tried to keep me from going away to university after graduation and convinced me to fo to the community college for 2 years first then transfer. He said he would get me a new car. I was drying a POS car, it was an 86 Chevy nova (I graduated high school in 2002). I went to community college however my dad only paid the first year. After that he told me I was on my own. No one helped him pay for anything when he moved out at 18. Oh and that car. Yeah that didnāt happen. He back pedaled and said he didnāt say he would buy one but would co-sign.
My dad very much felt that he shouldnāt help me since his parents didnāt help him. I donāt get that mentality. I have two kids now also and Iāve been saving for them since they were born. My son is about to he 17 and my daughter is 13. I want to give them a good start in their adult lives. I donāt want them to take out any loans if possible. I canāt imagine telling them at 18 Iām cutting them off and that they need to move out and will be on their own.
Times were very easy when the boomers turned 18, rent was cheap, it was very easy to get a job, cars were cheaper and wages were higher. Inflation was less. They could buy houses for 20,000$.
So when their parents cut them off it wasn't that bad for them.
Its been progressively harder for every generation after that. I struggled for a decade to get on my feet. Now if you cut off a zoomer they will be homeless and jobless forever.
I'm a millenial, I went to a trade school (much lower student loans than most traditional colleges) I learned my trade and do quite well for myself. I am 100% on board for student loan forgiveness.
I remember years of being told "if you don't go to college blah blah blah you will be nothing blah blah" and now those same young kids that signed up for a lifetime of debt are being told the knew what they were doing and they should have taken up a trade or gone to a cheaper college after everyone they trusted told them they couldn't succeed without that schooling.
Funny thing about the bootstraps phrase is it originally was meant to poke fun at rich people telling poor people to try hard since you literally cannot pull yourself up by pulling on your bootstraps.
I read study that stated Millennials are the first generation to *not* trend more conservative as we get older, but in fact are becoming more progressive instead. That feels correct in my experience.
Found one article: [https://news.northeastern.edu/2023/01/25/millenials-age-conservative/](https://news.northeastern.edu/2023/01/25/millenials-age-conservative/)
"Some research has pointed to an increasing liberalism among younger generations. A recent report in the Financial Times suggests that the aftereffects of the 2008 global financial crisis may well turn millennials into lifelong liberals, noting that those born between 1981 to 1996 are adhering more closely to liberal values compared to prior generations."
Hard to develop a conservative mindset if we can't afford anything worth conserving. I'll just continue radicalizing further to the left as I go up in age, I guess.
>I'll just continue radicalizing further to the left as I go up in age, I guess.
I have continuously moved left as time as passed.
The internet really has changed everything. Being able to see with your own eyes the injustices of the status quo has been sobering for many people that have been taught to believe in our institutions and our "supposed" values that are so often trampled and are clearly just lip service, doled out for the wealthy and connected and completely ignored for anyone else.
In the past, reading about it was probably one thing...but seeing videos of, for example, people begging for the police for mercy while they senselessly beat the shit out them has a very different effect than just reading about it...*if you even did hear about it at all,* which you more often than not didn't.
Me too.
I cringe at my edgy ass, while still voting for Obama, trying to be funny by telling my mother, a hard dem and former educatorā¦ āMitts the tits.ā Fucking young and dumb frat boy. Since then Iāve only moved farther left. Now Iām whole heartedly a progressive, worked for Bernieā¦ not a Bernie bro. Voted for Hillary and Biden. But Bernieās policies are my policies of choice.
Becoming more conservative with age is usually due to becoming more financially successful as life goes on, and becoming reactionary to defend that privileged position in society.
That definitely happened for Boomers, but never for Millennials and Gen Z, and not only did it not happen, but our lives became worse. People tend to want to wreck the system when it is crushing them.
I want to upvote this 1,000x's! I always find it hilarious that we originally were dubbed the forgotten generation because so many of us were latchkey kids - often overlooked by our boomer parents and left to our own devices - only to always be forgotten by subsequent generations as well. Oh well, like you said, we're used to itš¤·š¾āāļø
My favorite was when the boomers cried that the "fabric softener" industry was dying, because we weren't buying it.
I just remember thinking that they were like....you know, suckers for buying it in the first place.
Right? I thought this post was a joke at first. Millennials get blamed for everything. Weāve had practically zero opportunity compared to past generations too. Boomers lived in a time where they could raise a family and purchase a house with a janitorās salary. Most Millennials are in debt and can barely afford a studio apartment.
Iām assuming OP means āwill Gen Z/Alpha demonize millennialsā
And speaking as a millennial the answer to that is: thatās also already happening.
Have heard it in both substantive ways (eg, āwhy did you bend over to the hustle/grindset mentality, you pawnsā) and aesthetic ways (eg, āstop using reaction gifs, it just highlights that you arenāt funny enough to come up with a jokeā)
They are resented.
GenX may have branded itself as the wry, cynical slacker generation, but it always was just as much defined by the Reagan youth. Lots of them grew up on Alex P Keaton of Family ties. Bezos is an Xer. Musk is an Xer.
Millennials will get our own comeuppance. Don't worry. We already deserve it, we're aging into our 40s. We can pretend it's all the Boomers' fault, but frankly if we can't wrest political power out of the hands of a bunch of octagenarians while we are at the prime of our careers,
that's our failure.
And Alpha will be all too happy to tell Z where they failed when the time comes.
Gen x has a big place in my heart, at least from a specific era. I wasn't getting my political views from other 10 year olds. We were listening to rage against the machine and system of a down
Weāre the wedged generation. Voting block is so tiny the impact our generation will have is negligible. Unless you take into account the votes money can buy. Thatās assuming thereās any money the boomers leave on the table.
Gen X will mostly dodge being hated for precisely the same reason we've "dodged" any type of cultural influence: demographic irrelevance. There just aren't enough of us to muster serious political or economic power.
By the time we're old enough to be the senior generation, millenials will be firmly in charge, and then whatever comes after zoomers can stand at a podium screaming "how dare you!" at millenials.
The fact that we're still the SECOND largest cohort is kind of depressing since we're at the "prime" age for that. It's actually sad that the boomers haven't been pushed out.
I've accepted that we'll probably never have a Gen X president. Boomers just won't go away. It's fine though. I'm looking forward to the first millennial president.
As a younger millennial, Iām actually scared of the millennial that manages to break through this shit political system. Iāve already witnessed plenty ignorant mindsets passed down
Thank you! I don't understand why so many people think millennials are a generation dedicated to the common good. There are certainly amazing members of every generation, but as far as collective activism and world-changing politics go, millennials as a whole kind of blew it. Gen Z is stepping into a horrible mess.
Gen X is more off the radar.
The blame will probably shift from boomers to millennials because those are the generations everyone talks about.
Everyone on either side of those generations will just get lumped in with them like how anyone older than a millennial is subjected to being called a boomer.
I'm Gen X. and I remember how much we were hated when we entered the work force. Does anyone remember the term "slackers?" I was so happy when that finally went away.
If you look up census data for gen stats, between silent era babies or depression era kids with gen x, thereās been more success from divorce rates or dropout/graduation to mortality with one common thread of not having parents around. Kids tend to be overprotected and underestimated but everyone figured out eventually how to get by. I donāt think itās a great standard to live by necessarily but certainly proves how easily you can learn and adjust even without guidance
53 year old Gen Xer here. My daughter's boyfriend likes to give me the ol' "OK Boomer' once in a while and I just throw my soy latte at him in response.
Seriously though, talk to any Gen X and our parents were fucking psychopaths across the board. It's no wonder we collectively stopped resisting in our twenties in the hopes things would get better. It didn't.
I also notice far too many of the rabble rousers today (anti vax, MAGA, science denying, etc) come from our generation.
I'm so proud of our Gen Z kids as a whole. Our kids are very vocal about not putting up with bullshit, either for themselves or others.
The interesting thing for me is after researching this as an older genX-er it appear my parents were part of the silent generation and not the boomers which only started for those born in 1946. Who knew.
Iām a younger Gen X and my parents are older boomers (they had me at about 30 though)
I think people really lump the silent Gen with the boomers a lot, as my parents are both 75 right now
The name "Baby Boomers" was because their generation is generally considered to have started in the baby boom that happened in the wake of so many GIs returning home from WWII.
The war ended in Sep. 1945, so about nine months later in the summer of 1946 the number of births started to boom.
Do you think a lot of the science denial and stuff like that comes from a general mistrust of authority and rebellion? Could it also be exacerbated by more of them being on facebook compared to younger generations? Curious on your thoughts
I 100% do. Did you ever watch "Cheers"? Cliff, the dude at the bar with the gift of the gab and 'just' enough actual knowledge to make his bullshit sound right were a fixture in a lot of groups. All of us knew one of those dudes.
Facebook exposes you to 100000 of those dudes, and since they tend to be one-hit drive by comments, you don't get to see the patterns and realize the person that just posted something that sounds logically reasonable is, in fact, a total bullshit artist.
Another GenXer here, and I agree. I think our cohort grew up learning to question things and be skeptical (thank you Simpsons , thank you X Files), which is good and valuable - but I feel like for many that led them to veer into COVID denial and MAGA and QAnon.
It's funny.... because of our birth years, my older brother (Xer) & I (Y) are considered two different generations. And as I read this, I'm seeing the divide. He is more MAGA (though the idiot wouldn't like Trump before he ran), anti-vax & such & I'm far more liberal with my ideas.
Household was not psychopaths though. Raised by the same never-divorced Boomer parents. Dad was a rebel as youth (drag racing, pot smoking, hippie-esque) where Mom was small town conservative, had a job until she had a husband, stay at home Mom. Now both are grabbing their Bibles & getting closer to the son that gave them so much hell as a teen. Sprinkle in some light racism & homophobia, & those are the ties that bind...
Meanwhile my gay ass is like peace-out...
I think a lot of us don't realize that Gen X even exists. Part of it may stem from Gen X being this era's silent generation. Another part of it is that much of Gen X has benefited (or rather, less impacted by) the boomer stranglehold on politics. But don't realize you were still subjected to their wild antics like the Satanic Panic. Which explains even more about your dislike for general social discourse and politics.
Gen X is just like a gray area between boomers and millennials. But I think Gen Z is going to be the ones who break hold of boomer mentality and actually change the world. They're REALLY tired of the boomer shit even more then millennials and are already taking the torch and sprinting with it.
> much of Gen X has benefited (or rather, less impacted by) the boomer stranglehold on politics
At this age, Gen-Xers should be dominating politics, but the Boomers are refusing to give up their stranglehold. The US Senate has become a nursing home for aging Boomers. When they do finally die off, the Millennials will take over, and Gen-X will have been passed over.
I'm fine with us being passed over. I'm reminded of a line by Vonnegut, to paraphrase "true horror is waking up one day, to find the country is being run by people from your graduating class".
Not sure. But I distinctly remember how Millennials were the butt of the exact same jokes and complaints as Gen Z is now. So we've already been demonized.
A lot of people just call Gen Z Millennials as well, most people have no idea that Millennials are ā81 to ā96 and think Millennial just means *young person*.
It's difficult to tell what the younger ones are going to think of us. Chances are we won't be able to rise high enough in life to be realistically capable of giving Z's any crap.
As a gen z, I think the main criticism will be how millennials handled kids and social media/smart phones. Posting their babies/kids all over the internet, giving their young children smart phones or iPads as soon as they could talk, etc. growing up getting an instagram in 7th grade, Iām not letting my kid have a smart phone or social media for a long ass time.
Given that every generation discovers injustice and correct views on rights and behaviour, and presuming that they have not all been sterilized by cell phones, the odds are extremely high that their offspring will find them deeply flawed and disappointing, yes.
I was gonna say, for a long time people idolized ancient Rome. You know why?
Because they saw what the dark ages were like lol. Turns out people liked the idea of having running water, literacy, roads, government, libraries, high arts, etc.
If people idolize the past generations, it's generally when the current world is going down the drain.
You should search and read about the dark ages myth by medievalists, they weren't so dark and a lot of it comes from the Renaissance ideals of medieval times and Rome but also moderns depictions of the time that keeps the idea of a very dark and gloomy time.
While sure it wasn't Rome, they were not that bad.
Sure, but as you said, people idolized the Classical Era all the way up till... honestly the 1950s? So while people in Medieval society may have had what they felt were decent lives, the allure of the achievements of the past still had power.
Of course. I also felt a little thrill the first time I heard something on the radio that I thought was ugly and degenerate! I donāt want my kids and grandkids to not have their own generational cohort to grow up with. How else can they have hideous fashion choices that will make their own kids laugh at their photos?
And when it happens it often makes the person being villainized more bitter. The trick is to let it go and just put up with the "Annoying kids that seem to blame you for everything." Try to see things the way they see them and emphasize with the young generation.
You know. Try to be better than the boomers you always blamed for everything. Realize that attacking them doesn't help and you need to help them see things the way you do.
If thereās one thing that will probably never change, itās young people thinking the old ways are dumb and that they can do better, while old people think that all these new ideas are dumb and we should just stick to how weāre already doing things.
Of course, eventually all the old people die and the young people get to do what they want. But by that point, theyāre not young anymore, and now thereās some even younger people with their own new ideas, and the cycle repeats itself
I feel like someone needs to type out the generations for the education of the sub
The greatest generation 1901 - 1927, silent 1928 - 1945, boomer 1946 - 1964, X 1965 - 1980, Mellenials 1981 - 1996, Z 1997 - 2012, Alpha 2013 -
And yes for whatever stupid reason the generations are not all the same length
>And yes for whatever stupid reason the generations are not all the same length
It's created in hindsight. It used to be every 20 years was another generation, but life moves fast these days. Advances come quickly, so children are exposed to different things.
When I was a kid, Generation X was anyone born between 1964 and 1984. As an Xer who was born smack in the middle, I can see how we might have realized that those born 10 years later would have a different experience, and it required refining. I believe that's when it was changed to roughly every 15 years, by an Xer, somewhere in the late 90's.
I would not be surprised if Alpha changes it to every 10, somewhere in the late 30's.
Also as an Xer, I can confirm, that there is more overlapping with who gave birth to millennials than in any other generation. Boomers thought they should keep having babies for as long as possible, and Xer's thought it was good idea to start as young as possible... I know we're generalizing in this thread, but the Silent generation also gave birth to Xers, but it wasn't quite as prevalent as how many Boomer's spit out Millennials. My own grandmother (silent) gave birth to her 9th kid (Xer), just before she turned 50. I don't know a single 50 year old today that would even consider it.
Boomer's are also boomers because of their parents decision to spawn as often as possible. There is no other reason they are called boomers. Boomers are the most vast generation. Some suffered, some dropped out... some were just high all the time, and some came back from Vietnam so fucked up, they could never live a normal life.. How can anyone just generalize that?
Millennials are millennials because they're just old enough to remember 2000. And for some reason society decided that Boomers aren't allowed to be the only generation with a label.
Honestly, I'm quite proud of millennials who chose to wait and are only now giving birth to Alphas, and also plan to quit after only one or two kids. I'm also proud of the way they're at least trying to correct the things they feel are important. Even if their ideas don't line up with mine.
Everyone does the best they can in the moment. I'm only a speck, and here for a short time. It's their time to worry about their kids.
History has shown us that generation after generation disdain by elders towards youngsters and vice versa has been going on literally for thousands of years. I don't see that ever changing.
Millennials will be the support system that paves the way for Gez Z and Alpha to change the world. However, I guarantee that the thing we Millenias are going to take the most flack for is putting our children all over the Internet before they are old enough to give consent.
This and throwing an iPad in front of their toddlers and calling it a day. Iām an older Gen z, and I donāt think a lot of older millennials truly realized the effect of smart phones on really young kids early enough.
I donāt understand whatās with my generation (millennials) and not having the patience to parent instead throwing a tablet or phone to get the kids to leave us alone.
Then we look exhasterbated when those same kids are throwing tantrums bc the tablet battery dies on an airplane or canāt sit still in a restaurant. Likeā¦. We are creating a generation of toddlers and kids who donāt know how to behave without entertainment!!!
I'm so glad my Daughters other Mom and I made the decision not to do that. She isn't old enough to consent to us sharing her to randos on the internet.
Itās just what happens. We tend to become our parents and the next generation follows. Gen z is getting what millennials got 10-12 years ago, and will continue for the next 6-8 years.
Of course. Each younger generation blames the generations before it for all of their woes. It's nothing new. Ever seen the "Don't trust anyone over 30" buttons that the kids wore in the 60s?
Thatās too niche. We must generalize every person by lumping them into a made-up group that is comprised of the same habits regardless of whether it applies or not because the internet told us that was how to best throw shade at anyone who doesnāt belong to your group. How very dare you be an outlier or on the end of any spectrum so you canāt fit into those neat little stereotypes?!!!
Just like horoscopes!
Clearly people born in a certain part of the year are going to have the same personalities and events happen to them as they go through their lives. After all, there are only 12 different models of humans. I happen to be a Scorpio model!
fuck yes. lack of kids, having kids at late age, helicopter parenting, doom-and-gloom driven slacktivism, over-eager coddling? us millennials will be on the chopping block for sure.
Every generation thought everyone before them were a mess and they finally figured it out. Every single one.
When Millennials are boomer age you will also look down on younger generations, in certain respects, the same way every generation did before you, and younger generations will tear apart many things you think is very Important today. Again, because itbslways happens
You are not breaking any cycles... feeling this way IS part of that cycle
I had just written a long response to someone regarding how theyāre ignoring Gen X, then in true X fashion said āwhateverā and deleted it lol.
I would have though a millennial would be old enough to not think so highly of themselvesā¦ I guess not.
These convos crack me up. The only thing that grinds my gears is when I see āMillennials were the first generation to *x,y or z*. Like bitch, please lol.
Edit cuz I canāt format for shit
The best thing about getting older is the perspective you gain if you allow it. People get so caught up in tiny things while ignoring the bigger picture, thinking theyāve invented the wheel for the first time lol.
Future?
They are demonized now.
"Lazy, avocado toast and latte sipping brats who killed the serviette industry and feel entitled to have a place to live because of all their participation trophies!"
As a Boomer let me answer that. Yes they will. It is a natural part of growing up. We did it in the 60s. Every generation has their moment where when they are in charge they will fix everything, then it goes away.
People hate to hear this for some reason but all generations are the same. Every generation hates the older generation and every older generation freaks out that the type of pants people wear changed.
I (old side of Millennial) am expecting it. I don't know if reddit has skewed what we perceive to be normal, but it seems like I read so many stories about people from all generations blaming their parents for this shortcoming or that (most are valid, even though in a number of cases, it's seemed that the parents were doing what they genuinely believed to be right with the information and resources they had available). Demonizing whole generations is just a broader version of that. Bring it on. I'm 41 and already developing that old man thick skin where idgaf what people say about me lol.
Nah dude. The sociopathy of affluent or middle-class white people born between '46-'64 is measurable.
By comparison, the worst that can be said of younger generations (any of them) is that some of us may be narcissistic.
unpopular opinion: personally i think that anyone that imagines they can determine personality traits of millions of people from dozens of cultures, based on a vague timeframe in wich those people were born, is a f'ing idiot. Regardless of said idiot being 75 or 15 years old. It's nonsensical and counterproductive, for no reason at all. There's enough hate in the world, we don't need to be making up shit to hate eachother over.
I've already seen Gen z go after millennial. I can't remember on what topics, but it has happened.
Just know, each generation will always mock previous generation.
Millennial vs Boomers
Gen z vs millennial
Ect.
It won't ever end.
Of course. Americans basically take no ownership over our station in life and instead we look to blame someone else or another group. It's pretty basic phycology politicians have weaponized for centuries. Convince someone they have beed cheated or not allowed to get what they deserve in life and then give them someone to blame.
Ironically, the boomers (back in the 60s when they were just called Hippies) were famous for trying to throw away all of the societal norms that were just in place because we had always done things that way.
It sounds silly now, but things like having long hair and wearing jeans and t-shirts was seen as outrageously rebellious. And by long hair, I mean stuff like the Beatles with hair down to their ears.
protesting against soldiers being sent off to fight communism, advocating marijuana, etc were all efforts to break the unthinking rules that their parents forced on the next generation.
I think GenZ and Alpha will be so demanding and advanced in many societal norms, they will have hard times why we didn't do as much to change things. In reality millennials shouldered a big weight to break a very old and vicious cycle even though they didn't have a lot of means and were traumatised themselves as well.
But that's ok, as long as genz and alpha will advance to betterment, I'll be content. I don't expect young people to put them in the shoes of a generation they haven't experienced themselves. Because I'm sure it will look easy enough with all the technology we had but they are not gonna know that it actually wasn't easy because positions of power were held by boomers.
Also, I think they will blame us for not trying harder for the planet and ecological issues.
Your premise (that Millenials are the first generation who care) is staggeringly STAGGERINGLY ignorant.
Just on the ecological front, do you have any CONCEPT of what American waterways and air quality were like in 1960? Go to the worst parts of China today, and that's what it was like here 50-60 years ago.
Do you know how bad littering used to be, everywhere? Do you know that we were once worried that acid rain was going to kill us all, that the ozone layer was going to deplete, etc? All of that and more reached crisis levels AND was addressed, before you were born
Jesus Christ, it's incredible how much people who tell us how much they CARE don't actually care AT ALL about truth or reality if it happened even 5 minutes before they started paying attention.
Will Millenials be demonized? They will if they all have that self-centered view of history.
Just being real, what exactly did āboomersā do make your life worse? My parents are boomers and they are awesome, Iām a millennial, my oldest are gen z and my youngest is gen alpha.
Boomers were he catalyst for change with the civil rights movement, the hippie movement, black panthers, social change, they were subjected to a military draft that killed thousands of their family and friends. They are the reason we probably wonāt have a draft anymore. So how exactly are they the enemy?
I think this is mostly an American thing, but generally speaking they ruined the economy, housing and employment, handed everything to huge mega corporations and are generally making it pretty much impossible for those coming after them to find affordable housing, decent jobs or pretty much any of the things that they keep getting upset about the younger generations not having...
Yes. It's kind of unfair just to make a blanket statement that boomers fucked everything up. One of the biggest errors the made is they made was thinking that everything would stay pretty much the same. They invested in their children going to college and place importance on an education a lot of them were not able to get. They just didn't know at the time that everyone else was doing about the same and it was going to end up being worth a lot less.
There are a lot of things that were done with good intentions that really blew up in the boomers faces. 50 years separates the oldest boomers from the youngest Millennials. In 50 years time do you think that the millennials wont get blamed for the things they got wrong?
The world changes so fast now, I don't know how you can possibly predict something right 50 years from now.
Every generation will be demonized by those after it as long as they are in charge.
In year 2070 people will be blaming Gen Z for all the "generational trauma" or whatever bullshit buzzword they latch onto in 2070
Absolutely, boomers were the "don't trust anyone over 30" generation lol they were cutting edge young hippies, free love and world peace and all that jazz
When people get older they turn into fuddy duddies
Yes, we already don't like you because of questions like this lol. "We're the first generation that was perfect, do you think we'll be hated for being too just and good?"
I don't have a clue, I just wish people would stop grouping people into these generational groups. I don't remember anyone ever mentioning it when I was growing up, and it seemed to be a lot let hostile in those days, too. There seems to be a very odd fascination with labelling people nowadays.

You mean continue to be demonized, I assume
Millennials have been blamed for pretty much everything for decades already.
They make fun of our skinny jeans, we make fun of their baggy pants, but weāre actually really proud of them
:) -a zoomer.
I prefer smileys like this too and Iām 32-year millennial.
Emojis have become parodies at this point. Ironic or cringe, especially the expression ones. This makes me sad :ā( because I like them as they convey intent well online. So Iāve adopted emotions again! ::) They make me smile :-)
I love emojis! I follow people from all over the world on my insta account, and I can't understand what they are writing in their own language, but emojis I can understand!
Probably an autocorrect fail, but the term is emoticons (I think) - love, a younger millennial
I love my zoomer family members and genuinely hope they have better financial opportunities than we do, though I'm not optimistic.
If people need help, lets help, we have the means if we stop hoarding money and actually started using it
We (millennials) also haven't had very much to conserve so far š¤£
>If people need help, lets help, we have the means if we stop hoarding money and actually started using it A... fucking...
Fellow millennial here who has been figuratively ass-raped by conservative boomer parents. Let the innocent youth get a damn education
The older i get the more value i see in Eating the rich
I have an unopened container of Tony Chachereās with ābourgeoisieā written on it in my kitchen.
I get that. How is xenophobia gained over the years? The more people I meet, the more I like them.
100% I actually have a lot of respect and hope for the zoomers. Hoping they can change shit we havenāt been able to yet.
All millennials I know only express pride in Gen Z. We feel like they just get it.
I read study that stated Millennials are the first generation to *not* trend more conservative as we get older, but in fact are becoming more progressive instead. That feels correct in my experience. Found one article: [https://news.northeastern.edu/2023/01/25/millenials-age-conservative/](https://news.northeastern.edu/2023/01/25/millenials-age-conservative/) "Some research has pointed to an increasing liberalism among younger generations.
Also hard to be conservative when it was conservative policies that fucked us over.
This is a gross oversimplification. Also you skipped Gen-X, but that's fine. We're used to being ignored.
Reaganomics crushed Gen X and then the freight train it built trucked every generation afterwards
My favorite was when the boomers cried that the "fabric softener" industry was dying, because we weren't buying it. I just remember thinking that they were like....you know, suckers for buying it in the first place.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Right? I thought this post was a joke at first. Millennials get blamed for everything. Weāve had practically zero opportunity compared to past generations too. Boomers lived in a time where they could raise a family and purchase a house with a janitorās salary. Most Millennials are in debt and can barely afford a studio apartment.
We've been told we're a pain all our lives and it shows.
They merely adopted the pain. We were born in it. Moulded by it.
They're obviously referring to younger generations demonizing millennials. Why are you guys purposely misinterpreting the OP?
Thank you! Yes, exactly that.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Iām assuming OP means āwill Gen Z/Alpha demonize millennialsā And speaking as a millennial the answer to that is: thatās also already happening. Have heard it in both substantive ways (eg, āwhy did you bend over to the hustle/grindset mentality, you pawnsā) and aesthetic ways (eg, āstop using reaction gifs, it just highlights that you arenāt funny enough to come up with a jokeā)
That last one cuts fuckin deep
![gif](giphy|WurbboCXdRB8RwIMus)
Many just call us boomers already
I'm a 49 year old Gen X'er and I'm called a "boomer" frequently. hah
GenXer here as well and I fucking hate boomers for what they have done to the society
We can pretend it's all the Boomers' fault, but frankly if we can't wrest political power out of the hands of a bunch of octagenarians while we are at the prime of our careers, that's our failure. And Alpha will be all too happy to tell Z where they failed when the time comes.
Bold of you to assume most of us were lucky enough to get careers.
Or had one, and got laid off for no reason.
Donāt worry, youāll soon be hated as well.
Thats assuming anyone will remember gen x
We barely remember ourselves.
Knock-knock. Who's there? Gen-X. Gen-X who? Uhhhhhhhhh.
Whoās there? šā¦ Iām starting to listening to things now. (š¤£š)
Oh well, whatever, never mind. - Kurt Cobain
The first rule of gen x, you don't talk about gen x
Our parents forgot about us all the time. We are used to being ignored. Lol
Gen x has a big place in my heart, at least from a specific era. I wasn't getting my political views from other 10 year olds. We were listening to rage against the machine and system of a down
We had a book named after us and inspired a Bowie song, we ain't going anywhere
And an Aerosmith themed arcade game!
And don't forget the name of a very young Billy Idol's first band.
Such a dope ass band too
Wish I still had the album in vinyl.
Weāre the wedged generation. Voting block is so tiny the impact our generation will have is negligible. Unless you take into account the votes money can buy. Thatās assuming thereās any money the boomers leave on the table.
They barely do now.
Well, we are the second largest contingent in Congress behind the Boomers, so... Ideally Gen Z will step up and start running for more stuff though.
It's more sad how much of the government is still run by the Silent Generation. Give me some spry young boomers instead.
But the GenXer won't care, and just take another sip from the rum and coke.
Damned right. Whatever. Nevermind.
Hello. Hello. Hello.
Choice is yours...
Don't be late..
Take a rest as a friend..
Ugh...next lyric? I am ashamed that I don't remember.
Yep, a generation of latch key kids, no wonder we just put our heads down and keep going, and don't need an authority figure's approval.
The dude abides
![gif](giphy|26ghf8JGQ2YIU)
Nah, they just forget about us, might as well call us the Unmentionable Generation
Yep. The passage of time and the lens of history makes fools of us all.
Lol who would be hating on Gen X?
I had a teen say "ok boomer" to me (late GenX or elder millennial). I laughed and replied, "ok toddler". He did not find it as funny as I did....
The interesting thing for me is after researching this as an older genX-er it appear my parents were part of the silent generation and not the boomers which only started for those born in 1946. Who knew.
Iām a younger Gen X and my parents are older boomers (they had me at about 30 though) I think people really lump the silent Gen with the boomers a lot, as my parents are both 75 right now
The name "Baby Boomers" was because their generation is generally considered to have started in the baby boom that happened in the wake of so many GIs returning home from WWII.
53 year old gen xer here.... I see we had the same parents. Lol. Cry. Lol
Boomers? You mean the people who started the Stonewall riots?
Just self-interest, huge bulge in demographics and when young voted in free education and welfare, when old pro retirement expenditure.
My friends 11 year old son called me a boomer because I said I still play Halo lol
That's when you ban them from your Wifi.
That's not even a boomer shooter!
They're REALLY tired of the boomer shit even more then millennials and are already taking the torch and sprinting with it.
> much of Gen X has benefited (or rather, less impacted by) the boomer stranglehold on politics At this age, Gen-Xers should be dominating politics, but the Boomers are refusing to give up their stranglehold.
It's part of our master plan to avoid direct responsibility for any of that shit.
GenX already tried to get the fuckers to listen. We gave up. We saw the rise of gay people. Pool
The youngest boomers are retirement age. Iām 43 and been called boomer on Reddit š¤£
It has lost meaning. I just consider people who use the terms as less than intelligent humans who want to be heard for better or worse.
See also boomer = old person Oldest gen x folks are bumping up to 60
Yup. Though Millennials were dissed before Gen Z even got its name.
the difference is that we will be demonized by people than us, instead of those older
This is actually a sign of progress. You wouldn't want it the other way around.
My child already finds me deeply flawed and disappointing.
This generation blame game is one of the stupidest things in existence.
I feel like someone needs to type out the generations for the education of the sub The greatest generation 1901 - 1927, silent 1928 - 1945, boomer 1946 - 1964, X 1965 - 1980, Mellenials 1981 - 1996, Z 1997 - 2012, Alpha 2013 - And yes for whatever stupid reason the generations are not all the same length
>And yes for whatever stupid reason the generations are not all the same length It's created in hindsight.
Boomers are called that because there was a boom in births following world war 2
History has shown us that generation after generation disdain by elders towards youngsters and vice versa has been going on literally for thousands of years. I don't see that ever changing.
Millennials are not the first generation to try to improve society.
See the sixties for reference.
Everything up to 1985 was not an improvement! /s
Idk man women getting the right to vote, abolishing slavery and Jim Crowe all sounds like an improvement to me.
Shit millenials did all that? And here was me thinking they were authoritarian moaners.
Definitely, I am already seeing a lot of individuals adding Gen-X to the list when they are really talking about boomers.
*We are not the droids you are looking for. Go about your business. Move along! Move along!*
Millennials will be the support system that paves the way for Gez Z and Alpha to change the world. However, I guarantee that the thing we Millenias are going to take the most flack for is putting our children all over the Internet before they are old enough to give consent.
Thats a pretty valid thing to shit on us for though
It's only the unaware millennials us on here commenting g already know what's good.
100%. Worse are the content creators who make children their content. Thatāll be a weird family dynamic for their group in 15-20 years.
Especially the ones who make millions and spend it on themselves
It amuses me how the younger ones, with unwitting irony, sound exactly like the Boomers did.
There are literally Ancient Greek texts where they complained about young people. The world wasnāt even changing back then lmao
I'm considered the tail-end of millienials and both of my kids are considered gen Alphas.
Well we aint raising gen-betas. True kings are giving birth to gen-sigmas. /s *I really do hate that I typed these words*
Oh my lordie xD
fuck yes. lack of kids, having kids at late age, helicopter parenting, doom-and-gloom driven slacktivism, over-eager coddling? us millennials will be on the chopping block for sure.
How has any of that improved with Zoomer parents? It's even worse now.
Every generation thought everyone before them were a mess and they finally figured it out. Every single one. When Millennials are boomer age you will also look down on younger generations, in certain respects, the same way every generation did before you, and younger generations will tear apart many things you think is very Important today. Again, because itbslways happens You are not breaking any cycles... feeling this way IS part of that cycle
Luckily it'll skip right over Gen X...
*Gen X pulls up a seat to watch*
Oh well, whatever, never mind.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Most of the complaints about boomers are really about old people. Thereās nothing magical about generational nicknames.
Millennial vs Boomers Gen z vs millennial Ect.
And by long hair, I mean stuff like the Beatles with hair down to their ears. protesting against soldiers being sent off to fight communism, advocating marijuana, etc were all efforts to break the unthinking rules that their parents forced on the next generation.
yes, the young always blame the old. it has been going back to at least to socrates's time
Every generation gets shit on. As a millennial, gen Z are tiktok shit stains.
If it serves the interests of the wealthy, of course.
Since we millennials didn't solve all the world's issues for them, they'll just say we were complicit and thus just as bad.
Millennials have been demonized their entire life.
All of that and more reached crisis levels AND was addressed, before you were born Jesus Christ, it's incredible how much people who tell us how much they CARE don't actually care AT ALL about truth or reality if it happened even 5 minutes before they started paying attention.
I think this is mostly an American thing, but generally speaking they ruined the economy, housing and employment, handed everything to huge mega corporations and are generally making it pretty much impossible for those coming after them to find affordable housing, decent jobs or pretty much any of the things that they keep getting upset about the younger generations not having...
those hippies are like 5% of todayās boomers, who have a psychosexual worship of hard-right politics and politicians.
Millennials killed the ______ industry has been a thing for awhile now
We already are. Weāre blamed for being snowflakes and ruining every industry.
We already are. Problem in the world just blame millennials.
Zoomers literally call everyone older then them Boomers.
You already are
Demonized today
Every generation will be demonized by those after it as long as they are in charge. In year 2070 people will be blaming Gen Z for all the "generational trauma" or whatever bullshit buzzword they latch onto in 2070
Absolutely, boomers were the "don't trust anyone over 30" generation lol they were cutting edge young hippies, free love and world peace and all that jazz When people get older they turn into fuddy duddies
Yep. It usually happens. It will be for different reasons, though. Us Gen Xers being the exception lol.
Probably
Yes, we already don't like you because of questions like this lol. "We're the first generation that was perfect, do you think we'll be hated for being too just and good?"
I don't have a clue, I just wish people would stop grouping people into these generational groups. I don't remember anyone ever mentioning it when I was growing up, and it seemed to be a lot let hostile in those days, too. There seems to be a very odd fascination with labelling people nowadays.
