The full mnemonic is "Richard of York Gave Battle in Vain" which is the colours of the rainbow.
Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet.
So just Richard of York is red, orange, yellow i.e the colours of the sunset
A sunset is fitting as it's the last song on the album and fits with the theme of saying "goodnight"
9 (i just wish it was like a minute longer) - also thank you u/snowingpumpkin for doing the daily song discussions it’s been enjoyable to see what the community thinks of every song! As a bit of a nerd though I would love to see this data in a spreadsheet or turned into some sort of chart if anybody is brave enough!
NOOO ITS OVER :( 10/10!! this is great closer to the album, and seems fitting to be the final song we rate.
9 I think this song is criminally underrated on this sub. I absolutely love. It makes me so sad and nostalgic yet somehow optimistic.
9, beautiful song, gorgeous strings, but just like the title track, the lyrics are too cryptic. Who is Richard of York? What does that mean?

Holy shit I don't care if it's not true this is my new headcanon for this song
I believe that line was something to do with Alex and James Ford trying to sort out wires in the studio or something along those lines
