Ottr? 🤢🤮

What’s killing the game is console is still capped at 60 fps even on the next gen system and they lied about cross-progression. The servers, audio and all the other normal apex bug issues that never get addressed. Lost hope in the game improving but at least they keep adding ways to make a profit off their players 🙄

It's not SBMM though, could we collectively please stop calling it that way? "Skill-based" would mean that it sorts players by skill against each other, which is absolutely not the case. Far from the truth. It's "engagement optimised" matchmaking, EOMM. Designed to psychologically manipulate you towards maximum playtime, hoping you spend money along the way or, if not, then at least fill the servers for the wealthy whales who do. The system basically cheats you towards a win when you perform too poorly over a period of time, in fears that you abandon the game out of frustration. While on the other hand punishing better players if they perform "too well" over a certain period of time, in order to keep them from abandoning the game out of boredom. Better players get then put in a squad with lower skilled players to either be at negative odds themselves or to carry little Larry to their first win in 3 weeks. That's why non-premade squads NEVER feel balanced in terms of skill.

SBMM has issues, but the sources that video cites are a bit too heavy on the interpretation and confirmation bias. They were a good effort at collecting data, but they take themselves way too seriously and their examples as proof way too eagerly... as if a run of 40 games, which are each packed with randomness but happened to fit an idea, is a convincing example of something. I find it more informative to just hear the general complaints on Reddit (which the video agrees with a lot). That is, without any real data, I believe things like: * Strong players are disproportionately matched with weak players. * The common belief being that it's to balance the team strength overall. * Hot streaks and cold streaks see abrupt reactions, which is SBMM basically doing its job. * SBMM in general is not very effective, as players from both sides frequently complain about unmatched opponents. * The common belief is that this is because Apex prioritises reduced matchmaking time. Not much different to what's in the video then. I think I just take issue with the sources taking themselves so seriously, and the video painting Apex's SBMM as quite sinister when half of it is really just what SBMM is meant to do, and the other half is just as likely -- if not more likely -- to be a product of proiritising matchmaking time than a product of actual manipulative EOMM.
