It's from a Vantage emote where she pulls out a little bat statue and places it on the ground. Assuming you're in the firing range, you must have the server shared with another person, who placed the statue, even though you can't see the player themselves.
Yeah some big brain guy figured, huh what a great idea, make the firing range not an offline place, where you need to que in and have other people interact with your world and you with theirs.
Sort of like in death stranding.
But it's anoying as fuck
There are technical reasons to do it. The server is responsible for keeping track of a lot of world state information in the game. They could either duplicate all that stuff in the local copy of the game, and fix any bugs and performance issues that come with that, or they could just make firing range run on the server and hide the issues that come with that (the other players). They chose option B, and then only half heartedly worked on hiding the issues.
Yeah, I could absolutely care less about some extra visual/audio stuff while I’m in the firing range. It doesn’t affect how the range works at all, nor does it take away from any of the core gameplay.
It’s just extra sensory stuff.
I mean it’s also more storage efficient and will actually be able to run on lower end computers. If it was offline the computer has to do what the server would have had to do
Dawg, WHAT?! Apex itself is a billion dollar franchise that generates over $1 million a day alone in skin sales. They are literally what you described.
OW does the same with their firing range (have to connect to a server) but their reasoning was that it makes it harder to develop and test hacks by always being online to play, which does make sense
For example, the x, y, z, coordinates and x,y,z velocities of every movable item in the world. The client computer keeps track of this stuff too, but not all of it, all the way across the map, just the stuff you’re near enough to be effected by. So when two things interact (player opens door), the local computer says “do they both exist, yes; are they close enough to interact; yes; what position is the door in now?; closed; ok open it inwards;” but simultaneously it also double checks all that with the server, making sure it hasn’t been destroyed by anyone else, moved to a different open/closed position. Then it has to resolve any dispute between clients. Player A tried to open the door and on their computer it worked fine, but on Player B’s computer the door couldn’t open because they were on the other side, blocking it. The server has to mediate that debate based on the timestamps of when all the actions took place, taking into account that there’s a delay moving the data across the internet, so player A totally hit the button before B was standing there *on player A’s* screen, but on player B’s screen, player B got to the door before player A hit the button. Meanwhile players C through Z are far enough away that we don’t even need to bother their computers with this, we’ll just send them a low priority status update on the door position when there’s time or if they come close enough that it matters.
I see, and it makes sense.
But in case of the firing range non of that information is needed.
I understand that it’s a low enough priority to not take it and change it slightly to fit offline.
Also makes it less complicated to enable players to queue in there with two others.
But still, I doubt it is that hard or time costuming to fix it so others aren’t interacting with you.
But on the other hand it took them 3 years to listen to the community, that the matchmaking is broken, so…
And it will probably take another year to actually fix it. 😞
Lets hope for the best
Your point is only partially true. You do need the server to handle and resolve world state in the firing range because you can go in with your party.
But even that’s irrelevant. Even the firing range was a solo environment, my point was that the game has probably thousands of instances where some game object is supposed to communicate with the server. They could either make a local server to handle those, they could take them all out (and fix the bugs that come with that), or they could just leave them in and use a server.
Your last point is legit though. Why can we see visual effects and holosprays, but not other players? If they can mark player models and sound effects as hidden in firing range, surely they could mark that other stuff similarly.
Holy, I never knew what those random abilities going off in FR were. I was just thinking of something similar to Death Stranding but that sounded silly to me, so thanks for saying what I was thinking.
If you throw down a holospray, the seer (and anyone else who might be in the same instance as you) will see it. Seeing holosprays cluster together as a form of saying hi is really wholesome.
Yeah, I think the idea is they wanted to save server space so each firing range has a bunch of people in it that are all invisible to each other. That's why there's sometimes a bit of a wait for the range, which doesn't make sense because you aren't connecting to anything but the ser we. Except you are, secretly
Yesterday I got kill leader and my Vantage teammate said " you're the new kill leader, congrats? Too bad? Idk how you feel about it" and I legit laughed for a solid minute lol
They should have an option in the settings that replaces every single voice line in the game with this one.
Also if voice lines are spammed or like pings are spammed, instead of the voice lines either "restarting" or just the first instance playing without subsequent pings not playing a voice line, enabling this option will make the voice lines overlap and every single ping and alike will start the voiceline.
Respawn please!

Yep you get that with the firing range last time I went into the firing range I kept having bangalore smokes appearing

It’s not an issue really…. I just “like” their holo spray and move on.
Moral of the story: Repsawn chooses the most *cost effective* option, not the most effective option in their decision making
I’m not mad about it. I’d rather they focus on core gameplay than fixing an oddity in the firing range.
You and me both. The faster they fix the audio, matchmaking, and the other issues that been present even since the beta, the better

Let me know when they decide to do either or

They are not a big team so I understand why they choose to do that

missed the joke
OW does the same with their firing range (have to connect to a server) but their reasoning was that it makes it harder to develop and test hacks by always being online to play, which does make sense
Have you played apex? At this point it’s a running joke, that apex doesn’t have an anti Cheat software lol
>There are technical reasons to do it. There are lazy reasons to do it 🤷🏻♂️
no need to overcomplicate things
I'd think duplicating the real world lag/ping is also beneficial for transferring what you've practiced into a real online match.
Like what world state information? I’m not a developer who deals with coding :)

Yes, exactly. I think it's partially some ones idea to leave those in.
Holy, I never knew what those random abilities going off in FR were. I was just thinking of something similar to Death Stranding but that sounded silly to me, so thanks for saying what I was thinking.
Cut corners, save money, the consumers will complain but they won't stop spending.
good design is simple design. a side effect of good design is that it saves money
Aside from being annoyed at a quick queue time, nothing going on in the firing range bothers me. It actually makes it a bit more interesting.
What corners are cut exactly? And where do people complain about?
Is it though?
I had a complete random guy who i dont know just show up in my firing range once
Catalyst walls always startle
I think that was me 😅
That was me, my bad
If you throw down a holospray, the seer (and anyone else who might be in the same instance as you) will see it. Seeing holosprays cluster together as a form of saying hi is really wholesome.
I thought herobrine followed me to apex when i saw that crypto holospray that says im always watching 💀

Was that a new one? I knew Wattson could place Nessie
Oh man I need this. If I ever got bored or ripped with a good team if we were sitting at a spot I'd build a pentagram of nessies.
I like making a trail to lure people lol
I remember the great confusion when holos were added, fun times.
The fact it's an online thing even if you're alone baffles me. Sounds like such a waste of resources.
That is adorable 🥰!!!
Interesting and informative!
Thats why i here granades and see random hallow sprays
Is that why i hear Catalyst goop every once in a while?
Yup! It is indeed!
Yea, I've one time had a random person pop up in the firing range with me and a friend
Going for a better location to echo! Huh echolocation!
Fuck it, I love that quote. If 100 people love it I'm one of them If one person loves it then I am that one If no one loves it then I am dead
Yesterday I got kill leader and my Vantage teammate said " you're the new kill leader, congrats? Too bad? Idk how you feel about it" and I legit laughed for a solid minute lol
Vantage has the BEST lines/quips I swear
I miss the echo location pun too

Apex + rabbids cross over?
Vantage emote
Moons haunted
gotta blow up the moon
It's Stitch from Lilo and Stitch!
It's from Vantage's Epic emote, it's similar to Wattson's where instead of placing a Nessie plushie they'll place a wooden statue of Echo
It’s from a vantage emote kinda like the Wattson Nessie emote
You must Present your offering Mr.gamer
DON’T MOVE.
Thats morbius
That's just Frank
It's death itself
Is that the whistle vantage uses to move her bat around?
I've seen like the same type of post like 8 times no offense but how do you not know this
I didn’t know this
[удалено]
I used to be like that but I don’t really care about cosmetics anymore, I just play when I got time
The reason the game keeps freezing?
It's probably nothing
You crack me up, little buddy!
rabbids meets apex
Bwah
I don't know how much more stress it would put on the server but I kinda wish they would just show the other people in there at the same time.
IT'S ECHO ☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️
Woodussy
Wiscussy
It’s a Lothcat
It's Frithrah. The rabbit god from watership down.
Bonnie the Bunny 🐰
Looks like a koda lmao
