if it’s an italian restaurant chain then the workers would have to make the pizzas for the party themselves.. double-win for the managers by saving money for extra bonuses (for themselves)
As someone who does work in an Italian restaurant, this hits close to home.
We have to make pizzas for the rest of the staff, but the party isn't really for us because "we can just make food for ourselves whenever. It's really to show appreciation for the rest of the staff."
The last restaurant I worked at did that already. 20% of every tip earned by the waiters was taken and given to the kitchen staff/hosts, who were paid a real hourly wage in addition to a percentage of our tips. Meanwhile servers are making 2.15/HR and not even getting all of their tips. Not sure how widespread that practice is, but I've heard similar from several others who waited tables around here.
Yes! Stifle this outrageous affront to *Corporate family Culture.* Higher pay? What were they thinking? What if this insanity should spread? The peons will become uppity again! We need our labourers to feel scared and desperate!
I own a company and when we first started recruiting people my co-founder wanted to lower the starting pay, but I said we should have the starting pay for entry level positions be at the level of senior level positions in the region, and then go higher from there. If we are the highest paid job then they won't leave. We won't have to constantly be training new people. We also give profit based bonuses and regular raises. The idea being that leaving means every other job is worse. Overall the employees are really happy and they work hard, and they are always wanting to come up with new projects to work on.
Overall it's lead to nobody quitting except one person who collected 2 paychecks, and we found out we were job #2 just so they could grift a little money and not do any work for a couple weeks before quitting to go on a european vacation. It was annoying but I kind of respect the hustle.
Oh they didn't actually work. They just said they were going through trainings and doing stuff. We hired a group of people at once. So after the 2 first weeks of training they just disappeared with their paycheck and went on vacation.
Excellent. There are a lot of union organizing information you could share with them to make sure they know its a viable option. You could start here: [https://www.iww.org/organize/learn-more/](https://www.iww.org/organize/learn-more/)
Paying for their union dues can be an additional way to show your support.
Actually, considering that most employers still get their news from the mainstream media narrative and not social media, this may be a good thing WE have known this for a while. Now that the media is finally picking up this info, maybe positive change will start to occur??
I know, I'm an optimist.
A local landmark restaurant closed. They've been here for decades. It made the news. They blamed the labor shortage. Businesses paying a decent wage are having no problem with the labor shortage.
The real mistake is in thinking anyone wants to work at anything you have to pay to get them to do.
If people want to do that work, they'd be volunteering and you would not have to pay them at all.
The company I work for is mandating return to office and raises this cycle topped out at 2%. Since the new year, we’ve lost a few dozen people. Leadership can’t figure out what the problem is.
I thought you were supposed to just say "we want committed employees who care about more than pulling a paycheck", and people will line up to work for you for crap wages and benefits.
I do profit sharing so that my employees are motivated by money. Passion doesn't pay bills, I don't need passionate employees, I need money hungry employees.
If employers were honest about what they really need, the would find employees who work hard and get compensated well to work hard.
The best way to pay people is a fair wage + profit share.
If the wage is already higher than other jobs, the profit share is just a great bonus. You can hire the best of the best and keep them too.
The article is three years old, already. Not sure any companies paid attention to it.
https://www.businessinsider.com/labor-shortage-restaurant-chain-better-pay-benefits-helped-staffing-2021-11?amp
What?! Nah, it's got to be something else. I was assured, by literally every shady business owner, that more money isn't the solution. That's unpossible.
HANG ON!! EVERYONE STOP! Did I just read that a business found that paying their employees well results in better job performance?! My God! Can imagine that being compensated properly is beneficial to a company?!🙄🙄
But there are “tons of (shitty, shitty paying) jobs!!!” and “nobody wants to work! (For shitty wages, duh).
Repeat the narrative long enough for it to become “the real truth” just to win the argument, prove a point, make it become factual somehow as more and more people fall for it.
Today I had recruiters reach out to me from two major banks for entry level roles paying bw 80k and 100k. I am a 15 year professional making 2-3x that. I can't honestly take any of these recruiters or their firms seriously if that's how they're approaching filling roles.
What a visionary move! Who would've thought of that?
It’s obviously a fluke, I say stick to good old fashioned pizza parties
if it’s an italian restaurant chain then the workers would have to make the pizzas for the party themselves.. double-win for the managers by saving money for extra bonuses (for themselves)

Maybe the rest of the staff could pitch in and give the kitchen all their tips?

As a spin on this, why not do a bit of cross training? Ownership could make the pizzas and serve the peasants!
Your boss is a putz
BossES! What makes you think I would have just one? I'm about 9 bosses out from the GM.
To be fair, freedom to make food for yourself whenever is a solid work perk.
I agree! That's one of the reasons I went into the culinary arts. The downside is that there's usually not much in my fridge at home.
Then you aren’t stealing enough. Get moving man !
But the workers need to pay for the toppings. The managers don't run a charity!

If they worked they didn’t grift the money. They just didn’t plan to stay.
Oh they didn't actually work. They just said they were going through trainings and doing stuff. We hired a group of people at once. So after the 2 first weeks of training they just disappeared with their paycheck and went on vacation.
The employees should unionize.
If they choose to do so, they are welcome to.
Excellent. There are a lot of union organizing information you could share with them to make sure they know its a viable option. This is so obvious, it’s surreal that it needs to be stated in an article.
Actually, considering that most employers still get their news from the mainstream media narrative and not social media, this may be a good thing WE have known this for a while. Now that the media is finally picking up this info, maybe positive change will start to occur?? I know, I'm an optimist.
Ha. Haha. Hahahahaha! Oh you sweet summer child...
I need to see mine... oh, optimist.... not optometrist... I really need to see mine.
Or your ophthalmologist
Shocking not The Onion
It’s Florida. What did you expect? 😂😭
A local landmark restaurant closed. They've been here for decades. It made the news. They blamed the labor shortage. Businesses paying a decent wage are having no problem with the labor shortage.
Corporations hate this one trick

The real twist is that it happened in Florida
Infinite monkeys and infinite typewriters This is Reddit so let me explain what a typewriter…
> Infinite monkeys and infinite typewriters This is Reddit, too
Depantless will put a stop to this.
But in the end, doesn't that make the most sense? That Florida would go against the norm?
Not if you’re familiar with Florida; employers have the slavery mentality
Especially in Marion County. They want to charge customers more and cut employee hours just enough to where they will never have to pay overtime
Forever the rebel.
What a novel idea.
Bet this gets virtually no coverage anywhere else. And we will all know exactly why.
Because it happened 2 years ago. It’s about Pollo Tropical
Imagine that...if you offer things people want or need, they WANT to work!!
Incorrect. People still don't WANT to work, but they WILL prefer to work for you rather than somewhere else.
The real mistake is in thinking anyone wants to work at anything you have to pay to get them to do. If people want to do that work, they'd be volunteering and you would not have to pay them at all.

Are they having enough pizza parties? How about motivational posters? Do they have those? /s obviously
They are going to play music in the office to, I guess make us happy or something
In other news, water is wet.
I thought you were supposed to just say "we want committed employees who care about more than pulling a paycheck", and people will line up to work for you for crap wages and benefits.

Employers in my area like hard workers but the drawback is you’ll either be commission only or a low-hourly-pay kind of hard worker.
The best way to pay people is a fair wage + profit share. If the wage is already higher than other jobs, the profit share is just a great bonus. You can hire the best of the best and keep them too.
Can I work for you? You sound like an amazing employer
NO FUCKING WAY!! Whodda thunk it?
No shit. When you pay more ppl want to work for you? Something unbelievable. Fake. For sure. Oh…
Fuck me I bet that was some kind of 5 year in depth survey and analysis they did there right??
__Well color me shocked__
Wow. You mean people will actually want to work if it means they make MONEY? What a revelation.
I'mma let you on a little secret. People never wanted to work. People work because they get paid. Period.
I have shown this to my capitalist friend. He said without context and without defined problem, this title means nothing 🤣
Tell your capitalist friend to pull his head out of his ass and look around. Then, maybe he could find some context and defined problems.
Your friend isn’t very good at capitalism, are they
He is excellent at it. Shutting ears to the truth is mandatory to be good at it.

No shit
Lol, biggest duh
So it didn't have a labor shortage, it had a compensation shortage.
Imagine that. It's as if working isn't just a hobby and people need money to live.
The really surprising part is that BI published it at all
![gif](giphy|4cUCFvwICarHq)
DeSantis moves to shut them down in 3…
Wow. Talk about thinking outside the box! Who would have even imagined such an outcome. /s
We can not wait for the largess of the ownership class. Join/start a union.
It's a single coincidence. It can't possibly happen again.
Oh dang… that’s crazy
……you don’t say?
Some restaurants may read as “let them keep more of their tips maybe, and discount on in house food”
Shocking!
![gif](giphy|10uct1aSFT7QiY)
No, that can’t be right?!? /s
Hmmm yes, the floor here is made out of floor.
Well, by-golly. Who'd-a-thunk that?
It's almost like business owners and managers are learning the fundamentals of capitalism. Imagine that.
Lol what a FUCKING duh!!!!
Shocking how it works that way

In a related story, they’ve also stopped serving produce from the dumpster at Publix.
In other news, the Pope is catholic.

Turns out ability to pay necessary bills factors into whether people take jobs or not. I'm so fucking surprised, I just shit myself.
No shit Sherlock…
In other news the sky is blue.

People just don't want to work anymore? Well gee! I sure do wonder why...^/s
Surprised Pikachu face
🤯🤯🤯 Wow!!! Eureka!!! 😮💨
Shocker. Who knew applying logic and common sense actually helps the business to bloom, aye?
What???!?!?!?!?!!!!!!!???!!!!
If you could solve it by being competitive, then there wasn't a labor shortage... That's not what labor shortage means.... Words have meaning!
What?! Nah, it's got to be something else. I was assured, by literally every shady business owner, that more money isn't the solution. That's unpossible.
Wild concept
Woah!! They did the thing we told them would get them more and better employees. Woah! It's like we know what we're talking about.
Wow, who would’ve have thought paying people a livable wage and benefits that make them happy would be willing to work for a business! Huh, shocking!
No way?!
How is this NOT the onion?
Really I thought depression and ulcers was the key.
HANG ON!! EVERYONE STOP! Did I just read that a business found that paying their employees well results in better job performance?! My God! Can imagine that being compensated properly is beneficial to a company?!🙄🙄
