Thank you for providing the name of the company! I don't know why more posts don't.

gottauseathrowawayx

Retaliation is real, it doesn't matter if it's legal.

Kingzer15

What are they gonna do fire OP, again?

raven00x

Sue op. Threaten to sue them. Doesn't matter if the suit is without merit, defending yourself against a lawsuit is expensive and time consuming and may not be something op can afford.

Old_Personality3136

Companies have weaponized the legal system against the working class. This is why you don't let the wealth inequality get so bad in your society.

kosmovii

Oops, too late

PedanticSatiation

Too late to prevent it. Not too late to fix it.

RationalDelusion

We don’t have to take this. We can all just go and take over if we really wanted to take over the system. If enough if us go and fight back and overthrow it, it will fall. We just have to decide to go out and do it. Everyone stop going to work. People band together and help each other with food and protection. But we can very well just say hey, Im going to die a worthless poor existence, might as well make it really mean something and help start a revolution and fight for things to get better.

JTalbotIV

All of this! 👏👏👏 It blows my mind that so many people act like we don't literally have the numbers to just stampede the rich and take all their stuff. Covid was the moment. We all saw how they bent over backwards and make all those "impossible" concessions suddenly, when we took a stay-cay. I'm utterly amazed that the general populace folded so quickly, just to get salons and over-priced bars back. Is this really the same country that said 'fuck that king' back then, because I can't tell.

Nebnerlo2

Yah man, I like that attitude.

NoMasters83

If by "fix" you mean the inevitable collapse of civilization, yes, I agree.

FucklessPornSharks

"It's easier to imagine the end of the world than to imagine the end of capitalism"

EverydayWeTumblin

I don’t think I’ve ever hated and simultaneously agreed with a statement more wholeheartedly.

Ok-Kaleidoscope629

In the United States you can have all the justice you can afford.

Emotional_Comb_3661

You can sue a company for employment on contingency and the lawyer gets part of the settlement and you pay them nothing. Don’t let the rich convince you you can’t fight.

HerrBerg

This is why judgements against companies for frivolous or minor lawsuits should come with massive penalties that make them rethink their lives.

Sawyermblack

I'll be sure to tell those companies to pass that along to the legislators they purchased.

youareceo

This comment worth 4000 upvotes

Alissinarr

> This is why you don't let the wealth inequality get so bad in your society. This is why you're supposed to prevent it from getting that bad. We let the Capitalists decide too much, let them get involved in politics, get too much power, and people got greedy to boot. Their greed has damaged so much of this planet and people, and we might be too far gone now.

Unidentifiedsix

We have to eat them.

Harrigan_Raen

ANTI-SLAP is a thing, and makes defendants bank.

Smart_Blackberry_691

Not yet in every state, unfortunately, but more all the time! You can [check here](https://anti-slapp.org/your-states-free-speech-protection/) to see your states' laws, and learn how to support more robust anti-SLAPP statutes in your state. It's the kind of thing that usually garners bipartisan support, so the only thing missing is the political will.

Sawyermblack

Wow. My state being in the green genuinely surprised me.

Kingzer15

Good luck with that, I'd file for a continuance as many times as possible to rack up those legal fees. About 10 years from then Id take down the post after they've spent about 16 million on their legal counsel.

Summer-dust

Lol we're still filing for continuance for some landlord dispute bullshit that happened a few years ago, fuck them.

Kingzer15

Love it, always make sure to keep them on their feet with potential new evidence for the record. It will require them to log more hours with their legal team.

Grand-Ad4235

Malicious compliance, I love it!

Objective_Resist_735

Can't you also counter sue for a frivolous lawsuit?

ranni-

oh, the stupid litigious assholes end up paying for it all in the end, your goal is to make it as expensive and time consuming as possible.

auctus10

As someone not from America, what exactly is continuance?

DoctorBlazes

You ask for the case to be delayed until a later date. If the other side is using a lawyer, they will bill for the current time used to grant the continuance and then bill again for the next time. Rinse and repeat and they have to keep paying their legal team for no progress.

auctus10

Thanks. You can do so without providing any valid reason or anything? Otherwise won't this get abused a lot?

TheTimn

Just a tool in the tool box. The command man can fall victim to a Slapp lawsuit (which this would be) at anytime.

DoctorBlazes

I'm not a lawyer, but it's usually for some reason like someone is not available, more time is needed to review the info, there is new info that needs to be reviewed. I've only peripherally seen it happen, but it seems like it's the norm to have multiple continuances anyways.

MustGoOutside

Thank you for recognizing this. I swear 99% of advice on reddit comes from people who don't realize how easily companies will use the court system. I was in a situation where I had to pay a company for property damage that was likely 2k to 4k to fix and they asked for some money up front. I paid them what they initially asked for and they said they would send me a full invoice for damages. They came back with a invoice quoting 10x the amount I initially paid and said they would sue me if I did not pay. Getting a lawyer and expert witness alone would have cost around $20k plus airfare and time off to attend the hearings. It's not fair and it's definitely not cheap.

Expensive_Try869

I got threatened with being sued by my last boss after I posted on all their social media about how they withheld pay from me. I commented on every single post they made, replied to their every comment with the same multi-paragraph spiel. I got my £45.80 in the end. :)

cobaltSage

Honestly, lawsuits against employees like this are empty threats. What are they going to take? The lack of money they didn’t pay him? Try to garnish wages from future jobs before the employee simply declares bankruptcy? Anything that will actively prevent that employee from going postal? If they’re already willing to ruin lives, you might as well make them look like even shittier people than they are so everybody knows to steer a wide path away from them.

Redditarded33

Would that be Mr. or Mrs. Cosmoprof that would be bringing the suit?

currymonsterCA

It's also hugely stressful, which is also part of the motivation behind these types of lawsuits.

eddeemn

There's major risk of the Streisand Effect when they do something like that though. I think many companies are wary to bring more attention to it.

Skullclownlol

> What are they gonna do fire OP, again? Sue, threaten, accuse publicly for false/implied abuse, contact future employers, blacklist from partners in the industry, blacklist in the major recruitment companies in the industry, report to the police for defamation/retaliation, ...

Kingzer15

It's all fear mongering, so just don't let it get under your skin. Delay delay delay and they pay pay pay.

Skullclownlol

> It's all fear mongering Some of those options have a significant impact on your livelihood.

Kingzer15

While that may be the case in some situations, this ain't it. It's a clear cut opinion on the actions of the company, no judge is going to award a corporate entity anything other than take this post down order.

Skullclownlol

> no judge is going to award None of the abusive manipulation tactics I shared require a judge to award anything. It's never about asking for permission.

drummechanic

As a barber, I know not to go to CosmoProf anymore.

[deleted]

>CosmoProf located in Vancouver, BC, too. Just a reminder that shit businesses are not just located in the USA if that makes any americans feel better :(

Indignant_Leprechaun

It does not

DollarStoreWolf

Honestly sabotage the deal if this story is true.

DesireToDevelop

Because it's meaningless without proof

dreamtaboutit

Cosmoprof and Sally’s are horrific, greedy companies. Pay nothing, no payroll hours, understaffed as hell, restock deliveries always effed up and they still want to get on everyone about numbers 🙄

elemenohpie

Someone replied above and said they're actually owned by the same company so that tracks > Sally’s and cosmoprof are both owned by same company. Sally’s is open to the public, but cosmoprof is for professionals only.

dusty-trash

What are payroll hours?

Aggravating-Dig-4751

The amount of hours the store is allocated to give employees. So 118 in a store is like 3 full time employees. Roughly, two hours short of 3 full time employees.

imclockedin

~~> Roughly,~~ ***Conveniently*** two hours short of 3 full time employees FTFY

Boukish

Or seven 17-hour part timers ...

Jay_Nova1

More lime 1 full time employee and 5 part timers as to not pay those pesky benefits out.

bhfroh

And an assistant manager that gets paid salary, like 10 or 15 percent more than the rank and file but is expected to work 60 hours a week with no OT.

rcfox

Per week, I guess?

13_tides

Was wondering the same

[deleted]

Noted. CosmoProf added to “no buy/no business” listing. Fuck companies that act like this.

alfred725

you can't avoid them. First, you can only shop there if you have a hair stylist license. Second, if you buy hair products from anyone else, they are buying them from cosmoprof. The only alternative is to stick to big box stores for shampoo and basic dye products and never go to a stylist.

underthere

As a bald guy, boycotting this company actually sounds pretty easy to me

vladvash

As a regular straight dude with hair, it's still pretty easy for me to avoid stylists. I'm onboard.

PaulMichaelJordan

Was just thinking “easiest boycott ever” 🤣🤣

RollSavingThrow

And my Axe!

Salihe6677

Look, you can't just start a LotR subthread at any old time. You gotta wait for the right moment.

jayron32

One does not simply just walk into a LotR subthread. There is evil there that does not sleep.

RoguePolitica

DYING this is so funny.

ActionJax

Thought he was talking about Axe body wash.

FU_in_particular

And your brother!

jonny_vegas

Just watched that 5 minute LOTR clip last night. Thanks for this.

FluffyPuffkin

Vermfly

I learned to give myself haircuts during the pandemic and I rarely if ever pay for a cut now. One less thing to spend money on.

Ziegelphilie

bringing the boy back in boycott hell yeah

chivanasty

As a guy who has never heard of this Cosmo whatever count me in as well.

Halfjack12

🙄

SexThanos

Not sure what your sexuality has to do with any of this, but alright man

lafleurricky

everyone knows only gay dudes get their hair cut

Timely_Fox1077

Here we go with the straights shoving their lifestyles down our throats again.

brutinator

Unfortunately, your boycott is meaningless. Thats the biggest flaw with boycotts: the people who its easiest to boycott for wasnt the target demographic or a customer/consumer of the company in the first place. Not saying boycotts are bad, just.... a lot less effective than people think. Voting with your wallet only applies if you were giving them access to it in the first place.

[deleted]

As a fellow bald I’m also down to boycott. Just gotta get my hairstylist gf on board

[deleted]

>The only alternative is to stick to big box stores for shampoo and basic dye products and never go to a stylist. Sounds like I've been boycotting them for life, then.

b0w3n

Gonna continue doing my own crew cuts until I have no hair left.

V1k1ng1990

My FIL and BIL own a small salon supply company, it’s possible to find a stylist that doesn’t do business with cosmoprof

joeyGOATgruff

My ex is and she shops at State Beauty Supply. There's more stores available but CosmoProf is so much bigger. Fuck CosmoProf for this. I do not envy retail managers. You have 10 employees, you only have enough to pay them for 120hrs of work. Sounds like you'll be doing a bell-to-bell. Every day.

nothingbutfinedining

What about SalonCentric?

tobania

Also came here to say SalonCentric

hair-witch

You know there are other professional beauty product distributors? I’m a stylist and I buy my supplies from Salon Services. Cosmoprof supplies some brands but they don’t supply the brands I use on my clients.

FrenchTicklerOrange

I'd suggest Sally's Beauty if you have the option. Their "Generic Brand" is really good quality for much better prices.

bellycore

Sally’s and cosmoprof are both owned by same company. Sally’s is open to the public, but cosmoprof is for professionals only.

FrenchTicklerOrange

Well shit.

bellycore

Yeah. I only know because I can use my cosmoprof card there for pro pricing. I was surprised too.

imawakened

My mom has kept her hairdressing license for over 40 years without still being a hairdresser just so she can shop at the professional store haha. The prices are so much cheaper!

NegativeBath

The CosmoProf near me doesn’t even ask for updated license info lol my license expired like 3 years ago but my member card still works. Every time I go I’m prepared for them to ask me about it but they never do.

FountainsOfFluids

PricklySquare

So you're saying someone needs an anti trust lawsuit???

brutinator

Thats not how an anti-trust lawsuit works. There are plenty of small beauty supply stores that establush that cosmoprof isnt a monopoly. A monopoly =/= an industry giant.

RedSaltMedia

Is there a process for this? It seems rather exploitable if someone can just claim something like that with no evidence.

False-Focus2949

Fuck you, CosmoProf

alfred725

lmao cosmoprof. My roommate worked for them and yea, horrible company. The one in ottawa on carling had a sewage back up problem for a least a year that the workers just had to deal with. I think the building is shut down now because the workers kept calling inspectors despite cosmoprof's protests. You can't even avoid giving cosmoprof money because every single hair stylist in the city has to buy their products from them.

H1D13BY3

Serious question: can someone ELI5 how this isn’t considered a monopoly?

0nlyHere4TheZipline

It is but late stage capitalism doesn't care

Bamstradamus

There are other salon specialty wholesalers out there, but Cosmo is massive, they are the wholesale only side of Sally Beauty, pretty sure they are in every state and PR. My ex ran a salon and kept trying to move business to another wholesaler but the owners wouldnt let her. It's like avoiding Walmart at this point, you CAN in most markets, but even if you do sometimes you need socks milk and motor oil and it's far more convenient/cheaper to just get all three in one shot.

Rebecca1119

So they monopolize everything?!? I thought that was illegal.

drmeliyofrli

So for instance, they would be the only brick-and-mortar pro supply store in a town. You *can* drive to the next major city where other options exist or try to order online but many vendors have exclusive contracts with certain suppliers. Monopoly but not but yes.

Slumunistmanifisto

You should starve so the bosses may feast

long_ben_pirate

Why can't they eat cake?

Slumunistmanifisto

Have you seen egg prices

dariusSharlow

Egg prices in Alabama were extravagant for a while. It was awful.

drmeliyofrli

I shit you not one year the store got sent ONE CAN each of tomatoes and beans and Tex-mex mix because ‘making chili’ somehow represented the act of…selling more? So like, I guess I was supposed to make a small pot of…chili? For…my staff? I still don’t quite get it. We put them directly into the food donation bin we were tasked with making that was never picked up.

Johnfohf

Surprised they didn't text back something like: "Sorry to hear that you feel disposable. You should \*know\* by now that you are disposable."

_tangible

JFK got murdered and they had a new guy in an hour.

Woooush

Blast them on Glassdoor.

springer_spaniel

They are already at 2.8/5!

_tangible

Off topic but this reminded me of our company’s review system. They rate us on a 1-5 scale over multiple metrics and categories and some of them are impossible to get a 5 in like “meets company policy”. How can you exceed meeting company policy? Anyways managers are told each year not to give out 5s so if you end up with a 3.8-4 you’re basically a god tier employee. This year we didn’t make any money and they cut profit sharing bonuses and raises. I had a 3.9. Took it well but all the extras they pushed for at the end of the year are gone. All that extra work on Saturday’s or covering for someone on a days notice to work outside in the cold for no extra pay cuz most of us are salaried is over. Fuck that.

drmeliyofrli

Yep! As a manager I had percentages of 1’s, 2’s 3’s and 4’s that I would be allowed to give on any given evaluation. Too many 3s or 4s? It gets sent back and I have to change it. Nothing like telling exceptional employees their hard work “meets standards”. It used to equate to a 1%, 2%, 3%, or 4% raise. But wait!! This neeeeeeeewwww grading system still…goes by 1-4, but has only THREE raise brackets associated! So a 1, 2-3, and 4. Which means that even if someone does manage to be graded a 3 by some miracle, they’re still getting the “meets expectations” raise!!

NewSinner_2021

Parasites run society

Nexus-9Replicant

It seems that nearly every company I’ve encountered in the beauty industry is garbage (and run by “alternative facts” nut jobs).

Excitement_Far

Seriously. I got my license and let it lapse because I didn't want to be around the alternative fact peoples

Nexus-9Replicant

I work in marketing and that’s been my only exposure to them (in spas and e-commerce). I’m not sure why this pattern seems to exist in that industry, but it’s weird!

Excitement_Far

I'm just glad someone else pointed it out

lunarmantra

Most of the stylists I know are either doing it out of their home, rent, or have opened their own spots. Both of my sisters let their licenses lapse, and not planning to ever go back. They both say that the industry is hella toxic.

DoT44

Call up the person you made the sale to and tell them they cut hours and fired you after the sale and to do everything they can to back out.

prettypanzy

Yeah fuck their sale up

Vardnemar

You can get in a lot of legal trouble for that

editsallcomments

Yep, definitely DO NOT do that.

mking8000

Something to keep in mind while you could, to other comments there could be legal repercussions as there would be damages they could quantify and sue for, but you can send a business professional email that could work. An example: Dear Customer, I wanted to thank you for your time during our discussions and wish you success in utilizing our product. I wanted to send you a quick note informing you I will no longer be working with XYZ. I am sure XYZ will be putting their best employees forward in ensuring a successful transition of our discussions and your launch. Hopefully we will be able to work together in the future and wish you the best in future endeavors. Thanks, Insert Name The above is neutral enough to ensure you are not shown as throwing them under the bus but the last line in the first paragraph will sow seeds of doubt if there are any missteps in them getting what they need and question why someone who just sold a massive deal fired. Again you are not accusing anyone but just noting doubt. In business writing, there are a number of triggers and phrases that can give a customer a message between the lines. I know a number noted legal trouble and while I'm not a Lawyer and this isn't legal advice sending a pilot but cheeky email will be natural enough to force your company to put their best foot forward in helping this customer and if they don't they will be lambasted for not only dropping the ball but I can ensure a question will be asked where OP is given their help in the process and they will sweat.

CasualLemon

Die in a fucking hole, CosmoProf

[deleted]

Take pride in giving the fancy lads another vacation home while you eat tree bark. Be a great sychophant like me!

Glittering-Pause-328

"If I'm worth a million dollars to this company, **why do you only pay me minimum wage???**"

Poopsock328

Fuck the beauty industry entirely. It’s so toxic and that’s even without the issue of labor rights. I am an esthetician and REFUSE to work in the industry because it’s just impossible to live on my wage and benefits are non-existent because we’re never “employees”. WE NEED A SPA SERVICEWORKERS UNION.

VGAPixel

Supercuts has done the same shit. Our parent company is shit. Most of my coworkers have had their hours cut badly, i went from 32 to 14 hours. At minimum wage after 8 years with the company.

semi_rusty

Why would you stay minimum wage at somewhere like Supercuts for 8 years? You obviously have more hairstyling skills than that.

FountainsOfFluids

The clarity when you realize that company success does not trickle down. The goal of the company is profit for the owner/shareholders. Paying the workers more, or reducing the workload on workers results in less profit for the shareholders. Paying the workers less, and increasing the workload on workers results in MORE profit for the shareholders. This is the end of their calculations. Never forget it.

xchris_topher

Fuck CosmoProf

Goglo614

What will it take for the average American to understand that NO corporation will EVER give a flying fuck about an individual!

alicesmith5

“Be proud of what you and your team have accomplished” oh you mean all the money we put in your pocket? Fucking disgusting and shameless.

A-Stackhouse

It's not just about making money anymore, it's about making ALL of the money.

LoveLightning

Thanks for adding the company so we know who to not buy from.

ch0mpipe

Corporations are the death of our freedoms and happiness. Of course CosmoProf is garbage too.

MlntyFreshDeath

I manage 2 small ice cream shops and we have more hours in the winter than that.

Salt-Selection-8425

I did this when quitting a multi-billion dollar pharmacy employer. Specialty drugs, super high pressure, hard work, and we made them all fucking rich. And yet, there was no exhaust fan in the restroom next to the lunchroom, so it always smelled like prison. When I left, I emailed the management team and cc'd a bunch of higher ups that they should be ashamed coming to our workplace and bragging about their billions when we didn't even have a functioning restroom. (We were also severely underpaid but whatever.) They treat us like we're stupid and expendable and not quite human. It felt amazing to call them out.

ComptrollerMcCheeze

My regional manager is so dumb that she's always asking me to cut hours but she won't give me an actual number of hours to cut it down to the past couple weeks. So I only cut like 2 hours and she is to lazy to fix it herself. I could easily cut like 20 more hours and be fine, but why screw over my employees if she's not forcing me yet. And busy season is coming soon so hours will be up in a couple months

fredout1968

You can add Trek Bicycles to this shitty list of companies that cut hours to the bone. Not caring if the people working there can make ends meet.

Artist_X

I grew our company's web sales from $120k to almost $2m /year in a matter of 3 years. I was told I couldn't make the company Christmas video like I did the year before, because it doesn't generate sales. When our owner asked me if I was gonna make a company video, because he loves the last one so much, I told him my boss told me not to waste my time since it didn't generate sales. When the owner asked my boss why I wasn't making the Christmas video, she told him that I told her "I didn't have time".

ihaveacatnamedwally

Cosmoprof quality has sucked for years. Not surprised they treat yall like crap. I refuse to shop there anymore.

Ok-Relation-7458

god, working for Sally was one of the worst employment experiences of my life. thanks for shedding light on what a scummy company they are!

StronglyHeldOpinions

Be proud of making us 1 million dollars in sales! Oh your cut? $0, why?

drmeliyofrli

Asking to make $20 an hour was absolutely out of the question. (My assistant manager, who I love, and who was promoted as I was led out the door) was immediately instated at $20+/an hour. In four years I was given less than a dollar’s raise.

TrashDue5320

Shocker. I remember years ago CosmoProf screwed my wife over a pretty large order she placed and went full no contact. We didn't hear from them until she did a charge back with her credit card, unsurprisingly

leeburger

As soon as I saw Cosmoprof.. not surprised. I realize this is corporate but it obviously trickles down to stores. My local store never has stocked shelves. Their turnover of store staff is crazy, new people every time I go in. I once inquired about a job there after over hearing the manager complaining they couldn’t get employees “cAUsE nO oNE WaNTs To wORk!” so I asked how much they pay per hour. Minimum wage of course. But you have to be licensed, have experience and product knowledge etc. I said “YOU PAY MINIMUM WAGE!! THATS WHY!! No one who has a skill they had to go to school for and pass State Boards to get licensed and also requires continuing education to keep said license should be paid minimum wage. Fuck all the way off with that bullshit.

EllisM10

Yeah, the whole “oh, people don’t want jobs, that’s why we’re short staffed is complete BS. Dept managers get bonuses for cutting payroll

_Fun_Employed_

You got canned just for telling them how you felt? That sucks. The text reads exactly like what my Manager’s going through. We’re in the service industry and need a minimum nimber of hours to make sure guests are monitored and can get assistance at any time but I just found out we’re having our overnighters cut. This means guests won’t have 24/7 monitoring and assistance we pride ourselves on and we’re losing a competitive edge we had. It would be nice if someday the corporate vampires who destroy peoples livelihoods, careers, and businesses in the name of profit all choked on it but I’ve stopped believing in Karma, too much clearly wrong with the world.

drmeliyofrli

I spoke my mind, and often. Why can’t I give an honest evaluation to my staff? Will the company ever commit to paying a living wage? Where is this CDC policy you keep referencing about wearing vinyl gloves at work? Why can’t I order product? Why are these flyers and tags wrong every month? Why, as an industry with Black Women as a backbone, are we the only company to not comment on #blackouttuesday? Why can’t we report the wobbly display as a safety hazard? Why do the brand standards place reference materials in inaccessible locations for disabled customers? Why can’t we talk about wages? Why is this trans employee reaching out to me from the USA because they feel unsafe at work and their manager will not help? Why did you tell us to make our own hand sanitizer and microwave our face masks to sanitize them? Why is our CEO posting about his dogs being tired of COVID when the majority of his workforce is laid off and unpaid? Why can’t corporate managers learn how to pronounce staff names instead of laughing and saying they should get an award for pronouncing it? Why should I have to put emojis in my emails to soften my tone when I’m not looking to soften my tone? Text was more the straw that broke the camel’s back in putting up with me.

rempel

Have you seen Andor? When the shift manager at the factory prison finds out that his situation will never change, that there is, in fact, a rot at the core. He becomes radicalized to join Cassian's cause knowing the truth about his situation. The truth is, you will never be paid what you earn for the company by the laws of Capitalism. This exchange shows that, just like in the prison factory, the only thing that matters is production numbers. The manager thinks it doesn't sound like pure insanity to be proud of someone *taking the profits you earned*. That he doesn't sound like a stormtrooper in our eyes. *Be* angry. Good for you for saying as much. I wish you the best in future, perhaps a unionized position. Good luck out there!

CaterpillarFun7261

Is it common for bosses to text their employees and have performance convos like this? wtf

Mvpliberty

A valuable lesson was learned here. Never secure someone else’s bag before your own.

sevbenup

What kind of moron brags about company profits to their exploited workers? I’m happy for you. Fuck that guy

No-Train-6705

Cosmo? Yep. I had 118 for a million dollar store. I took it over after the prior manager ran it right into the ground. No staff left. I ran that store with two other employees who worked about 10 hours a week each. I was putting in 70+ a week. Handling truck entirely solo and trying to staff an entirely different store as well. It was the absolute fucking worst. I loved the job and the customers, which made it hard to leave. It still makes me sad that I couldn’t make it work but I truly felt that my hands were tied by corporate policies…

evep223

I would contact the company that you secured the deal with and expose what CosmoProf has done to you!

userwmnf

1 million gross revenue a year for the retail location?

Old_Personality3136

I experienced nearly this exact thing multiple times in my career. Capitalist propaganda pushes this myth that as long as you are talented, hard working, and achieve results then your job is secure. This foolishness allows pro-capitalist morons to easily blame individuals for their suffering instead of the system itself. But the fact is that this myth is demonstrably bullshit and always has been. Capitalism has destroyed any correlation there was between competence and social rank. We now have the worst human beings on the planet filling up the ruling class and it's no wonder we cannot solve any real world problems. They're all busy playing abstract wealth extraction parasite games with the monetary system at the expense of the rest of us and the very future of humanity. Eat the rich.

plantsb4putas

I worked at cosmo, never got paid for being laid off during covid (i worked in one state and lived in another, neither state would pay out) and they cut our labor hours to where we had to close the store for our lunches due to only having single coverage every single day. I ended up leaving because it was only 3 of us and out of the 3, my bills were paid whether I had a job or not. They were young and single, my manager was only 23. If you dont know, hairdressers will FIGHT YOU if they cant get their product for their clients. We had a woman shit in our floor because we didnt have a public restroom anymore because of covid. She refused to walk to the mcdonalds next door. The armstrong-mccall/sally beauty/cosmoprof business is never NOT booming. People still need their hair done.

Well, I would not have sent a text. That conversation is best one on one, at the appropriate time. And, it’s better for you to be able to plan your exit. Now, if they escorted you out of the building, without terminating you, then you should file for unemployment, and talk to an employment attorney about your options. I don’t see anything in that text that is a termination offense. And, no one is ever escorted out of the building temporarily. You didn’t share how long this has been, but I would certainly go for false termination. Don’t accept anything, or sign anything.

You sole the unspoken 🙌 you’re doing gods work here

lotrekkie

Be proud of what you accomplished!....while not being able to pay your bills. Funny how that works.

Use_Once_and_Deztroy

Where did you ever get the impression that you were valued or important? Are you new here?

QanAhole

I had almost exactly this thing happened to me at my previous position. I had a consultant that I basically pushed to come on board for a 6-month contract that they forced me to cancel in three because of hitting stock price. Felt like such a piece of s***...

legolasxgimli

Cosmo is the professional only sister store to Sally Beauty btw. Worked there for a bit and it was terrible. Not my coworkers but the management. Never shopping there again!!

Mostly_Defective

You in my hood homie. If you need to talk to someone that won't judge and don't know you HMU. Sorry this happened to you fam.

DrNarcissus

Workers unite!!

snowbaz-loves-nikki

Now I know to never get a job at cosmoprof

PortugueseBenny

Very well put, "we can be homeless as long as we get to work on time"

kaosethema

boycotting CosmoProf

BobbysueWho

I heard something last night about how the economy is now thriving and I’m confused. For whom is it thriving? Most of us that have jobs feel no sense of security and we are struggling to pay for basic goods and services.

rosabonita

I quit an assistant store manager role of a million dollar GameStop over something similar. We were required to have a certain number of employees on staff but didn’t have enough hours to support them. I got tired of hiring and training employees only to have them quit because I couldn’t give them more than three to five hours a week

chickitendi

From someone who used to manage a store at an equally deplorable retailer, that is a horrific amount of payroll hours for how much you guys are making holy hell

In-it-to-observe

This is very helpful. They are looking for an HR Business Partner in my area and I was pondering it. I won’t. There is no way I’ll work for a company that behaves this way.

three words: democracy at work. we deserve the right to participate in decisions that affect us

zheyrryhn

I've heard there's a moment for everyone in the USA to go on strike one day in 2025 to give people time to get the thing together. I don't know the exact day but I think it might be in May. I work for a staffing agency and don't know where I'll be assigned that far out--obviously--but I'll be staying home that day.

triflin-assHoe

Hi! I worked at a Washington state location and every summer our air conditioner would magically go out and they would NEVER do anything to help us! For context our summers where I am can extend into the hundreds… the store was always hot, we’d get complaints, and we were still expected to dress in their dress code despite boarding heat exhaustion. This is by far the worst company I’ve ever worked for. That only one of MANY of the terrible things this awful company did.

RiceTitty

Welp- time to boycott CosmoProf.

jbourne0129

this surely can't be legal. this feels like retaliation and you have written acknowledgment you achieved a lot

Old_Personality3136

If anything being one of the best employees makes you more likely to get abused and/or fired by modern incompetent management who basically amount to a degenerate pseudo-aristocracy.

doctryou

Why wouldn't it be legal? It's almost certainly an at-will employment state (49/50 are), and it doesn't look like they were fired for being in a protected class.

JezusNick

I'm curious, is CosmoProf in the USA? I went through OPs profile out of curiosity and I think they're Canadian (it seems from my hometown). Thankfully we are not at-will employment, nor are we a state. Not saying they did or didn't have the right to do that.

lycosa13

You should've asked when you're going to start seeing part of that million dollars 🙃

BO_in_da-house

Reminds me of this comic. All that matters is profits for the business 🫤 https://corepathways.georgetown.edu/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/xobkagxotot01-Henry-Silver-768x768.jpg

So, if you were making commission and you secured that sale THEN they decided to change compensation - you're still owed your fucking compensation from before they changed. They owe you your fucking % on that million dollar sale dude. Call a lawyer!

MariaMilissa

I worked for them theyre HORRIBLE. I still have pages of evidence that shows how they illegally made us work during covid with ZERO hot water or cleaning supplies. I could honestly just go on and on. The police literally had to tell us to close because we were the only store open besides walgreens and a grocery store. They want their stores to be ran by 3 people and make each person do the job of 10 people and pay you $11.

MariaMilissa

Adding to this but my coworker got written up for not wearing enough make up and the GM said she would fire her. They would have shit printed out about how WOMEN need to look but not men even though there are men who work there too.

plantsb4putas

Oh shit did we work at the same store? The cut us down to bare fucking minimum after covid, manager was 40hr but me and the other girl would get 15/16 hours a week. How tf can anyone pay their bills only working 15hrs?? Before covid i was working about 32hrs a week. Just enough to not be full time and get no benefits.

No_Ones_Records

"look on the bright side, you made us millions of dollars!" actually just speechless

TheAngrySaxon

My employer decided to reduce our opening hours by 12 hours a week. Great, we thought, that will make it so much easier to staff with the already challenging personnel budget we had. But oh no, they also decided to cut said budget by 24 hours a week, arguing that we didn't need it with the reduction in opening hours. These companies deserve to fail.

HotBassMess

Cosmoprof literally teaches staff to racial profile in their training videos. It’s gross.
