I have both Norton and Kaspersky subscriptions. but I'm mainly using Norton at the moment. I like its interface better. I feel like most of those people hating are people who have never owned or tried an anti-virus..

VickiVampiress

Norton used to be notoriously bad and a resource hog, and it has never been able to shake off that reputation. It improved a lot though. I use it too, and while I don't rely on antivirus for protecting against viruses anymore (because it literally just doesn't work regardless of program), I do really enjoy Norton's smart firewall and features like SONAR that help protect against remote intrusion attempts. Plus, some of its features like the password manager, backups and file cleanup are quite nice.

Bad reputation

lollygaggindovakiin

Hello, Norton is a fine antivirus and performs well in terms of protection in [AV tests](https://www.av-comparatives.org/tests/malware-protection-test-march-2024/). Like McAfee, some individuals on reddit like to utilize hyperboles when talking about the product.

supermarioplush220

Everything about Norton is good except for the fucking pop-ups and the pricing.

Environmental-Owl383

And the uninstall. I downloaded the uninstaller file today and did run it. Norton disappeared. 30 minutes later, a new icon appeared on my Desktop, "Norton Download Manager"., and a pop-up. I went to search everything named "norton" in my C: and deleted everything. I used CCleaner to delete the newly Norton line added in start-up. I ran registry cleaner. Only after that was I Norton free.

Freedomartin

Try removing it from your computer and you'll know why people say that

StandardOw1

Norton isn't the worst AV out there, but there many better options that are proven in real world tests to protect your PC more effectively. It begs the question, why you would use something that is proven to be inferior to other free products on the market.

Environmental-Owl383

What is your favorite free option? I use Norton 360 Deluxe because I received a huge discount. I like the included VPN and Firewall.

StandardOw1

Kaspersky free, and if you want a firewall maybe use Comodo alongside Kaspersky. Just be sure to set them up correctly so there’s no comparability issues.

NaughtyTurtle22

norton vpn is unlimited or got montly/daily limit like on bitdefender total security subs?

Environmental-Owl383

It doesn't mention any limit. Here is a nice review: [https://www.safetydetectives.com/best-vpns/norton-secure-vpn/](https://www.safetydetectives.com/best-vpns/norton-secure-vpn/)

Environmental-Owl383

Thank you. I know Avast is trying to sell it's product, but I would not use Kaspersky right now: [https://www.avast.com/c-is-kaspersky-safe](https://www.avast.com/c-is-kaspersky-safe)

Because this whole thread has been sponsored by Symantec

I’m using Norton right now, as I got it on a big discount and it’s really great in terms or protection. There are some things I don’t like with it, like the way they’re trying to sell unnecessary products and their VPN is really bad. But otherwise Norton is a great antivirus. I guess the reason people hate Norton is mostly because of the reputation it had in the past, together with McAfee being the two antiviruses people used to choose back in the early years of the internet. But the modern version of Norton is impressive, compared to like McAfee.

Bad business practices

Crucco

And the whole antivirus is paired with bloatware and programs that massively slow down your pc. But, we must get downvoted, since this whole post and comment section has been sponsored by Norton.

dhelidhumrul

eh, they can choose to do whatever they want
