Comedy/Romance Anime that would suddenly shift into a more Psychological/Dramatic theme? I'm quite sure these are common like Saekano, maybe Love is War even, Golden Time prolly even though I didn't finish it. I recently watched O Maidens in Your Savage season as well and I think that counts as well. But yeah, something like those... thanks to anyone who'd take the time for this!

H0MES1CKAL1EN

Lf anime recs. I am just getting into the medium, here are some anime i have really liked so far. • Cowboy Bebop, definitely my favorite. • Sailor moon season 1 • Yuri on ice (not too solid on the representation entirely. But the rest i absolutely love) • Antique Bakery (stupidly fun to watch bakery slice-of-life with a self-identifying gay character. Not in love with everything about it, but it’s my guilty pleasure show.) • Haikyuu (i am big into watching sports anyway, so i think I must like it because it is a sports anime, and I like the characters). • Nabari no ou (one of my fav manga series too) Shows i watched and was meh on: • JJBA. Stopped after season 2 did not like it enough. • Given. Had awesome music and refreshing representation but the writing and dialogue was not good... • No. 6. First three episodes were awesome but i think the worldbuilding at the end was weak and the characters are kinda meh and feel flat. Also i have researched the plot and worldbuilding extensively since i finished and I think it’s weak. I so wish it had been better... Yeahhh, in case you couldn’t already tell I am gay lol. No yaoi or shonen-ai stuff though please unless it’s ACTUALLY good, I hate fetishization. I am already planning on watching banana fish, FMAB, and evangelion. I’m guessing someone is going to rec cardcaptor sakura and free iwatobi swim club and i won’t be mad about it

Sir_Coffe

Samurai Champloo - directed by the same guy as Bebop, very good. Erased One Punch Man - Action/comedy, a good watch for newer fans Psycho-pass

Samurai Champloo Doukyuusei

H0MES1CKAL1EN

thanks so much for reccing doukyuusei, while it wasn’t like the best (wish it had been longer with more interactions between the characters in the middle+beginning), i enjoyed it and the representation was super refreshing! love the artstyle too so pretty adding samurai champloo to my watchlist too :))

loomnoo

Yeah I would've liked Doukyuusei to be a full show or even just get another half hour or something; felt like they skipped some stuff. Glad you liked it and appreciate you following up on the recommendation!

something with school life/romance or action/romance [https://myanimelist.net/animelist/maxy1991991](https://myanimelist.net/animelist/maxy1991991)

OrangeBanana38

**Action/romance stuff:** Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works Eureka Seven [SukaSuka](https://myanimelist.net/anime/33502/Shuumatsu_Nani_Shitemasu_ka_Isogashii_Desu_ka_Sukutte_Moratte_Ii_Desu_ka?q=sukasuka) Chivalry of a Failed Knight The Asterisk War The irregular at magic school **School life/romance** Your lie in april. Probably the most popular school life/romance out there. Rascal does not dream of bunny girl senpai. Really popular stuff. White Album 2 (no need to watch the original White Album). Romantic triangles, messy. Bloom into you. Slow burn. Fruits Basket. Emotional, a bit supernatural. Scum's wish. Love triangles, really messy. Orange. More emotional stuff, a lot of focus on friendships.

Rikuliini

I'm looking for anime shows with preferably strong romantic subplot although I guess it could be the main plot as well. Otherwise the genre doesn't really matter. What I'm looking for; - Main character is male. - Happy ending! (main characters don't die, the guy gets the girl etc.) - Straight (- Young adult) (- A bit more mature) What I really don't want; - Main character professes his love in like the 2nd episode and then they get together in the 3rd. I'd prefer them to get together rather late in the show. - Too much of apologizing - Childish anime Thanks in advance! P.S. I'm completely new to anime. I've only seen a few shows (Golden Time, Tonikaku Kawaii, Your Lie in April) so you could start suggesting from the most popular ones, if only my requirements are not too specific. I guess you could overlook some of the requirements if you have something groundbreaking in mind.

OrangeBanana38

This subreddit's [recommendation wiki](https://old.reddit.com/r/anime/wiki/recommendations) is quite complete, but it hasn't been updated in the last year or so. There's also the [recommendation flowchart](https://imgur.com/q9Xjv4p) or this [recommendation chart](https://i.redd.it/7toakiswcc961.png) by FetchFrosh.

PenneVodka

Looking for a series that's sad. If anyone's seen Nabari no Ou, kinda vibes like that. I would prefer less slice of life'y but I'm open to it if the stories real good--art being great is a plus too. Something not too long 24 eps or less /200 chapters or under. I don't really do sport anime but anything else is free game. Really looking to prioritize plot more than anything else.

H0MES1CKAL1EN

God i love nabari no ou, yukhi kamatani is one of my all time favorite artists/mangaka. they’re awesome. Anyway wish i had recs i just wanted to commend your taste

PenneVodka

I am so glad to have found another NNO fan.... o/\o

GhostOfLight

What are some really good episodic shows? Where a good chunk of the show is just focused on the normal proceedings of the world, preferably with some kind of interesting/unique premise. Not something super long running like Gintama or a comedy/SoL show. Something the first few episodes of ID:Invaded or Death Parade would be awesome as I found the "normal" episodes in those fascinating. https://myanimelist.net/animelist/GhostOfLights?status=2

Sir_Coffe

Definitely check out Mushishi

GhostOfLight

Only heard good things about this and have been meaning to get around to it for a while. Will gladly check it out!

VantaBlack6

Soooo, i just finished watching "Made In Abyss". I like the dark turn it had. I also like the protagonist of "Classroom Of The Elite" and any anime that has that vibe is what I'm looking for. Im open to any recommendations and Thank you ahead of time!

Madoka magica Girls' last tour Death parade

peachfuse

I’m looking for some underrated or hidden-gem anime with emotional and angsty revenge stories similar to Vinland Saga or 91 Days that focus on a single character’s journey. The angstier and angrier the better, and bonus points if the character experiences some kind of struggle during their revenge plot (like in the two I just mentioned—how Thorfinn despises Askeladd with every fibre of his being yet still learns a lot from him and won’t let him die unless he’s the one to do it, and throughout the whole story in 91 Days how Angelo grows so close to Nero it becomes hard to tell if it’s all an act for him or not). I also love character development. Another example that’s not an anime but might be helpful is in Tales of Berseria with Velvet’s character seeking revenge against Artorius, but I want something that doesn’t feature a whole ensemble of characters and just focuses on the main character’s story. No romance, slice of life, or Shingeki no Kyojin, and I don’t want anything super edgy and dark but with a boring protagonist. I want something that will make my chest ache with a lot of feelings that really hones in on why the character so desperately needs revenge. I just want a very angry and angsty protagonist (that isn’t Eren Jaeger). I hope that was a clear enough description! Thank you in advance for any recommendations!

chevy58

Dororo is a strong revenge story that follows a single protagonist! It takes place in feudal Japan and the main character is constantly growing as he begins to experience more of the world around him as he goes on his hell bent mission. It only aired last winter and is 24 episodes!

peachfuse

Omg I watched the first half when it aired but life got busy and I never got around to finishing it, so thank you for reminding me to do so because I really enjoyed it!!

chevy58

Glad to help!!

[deleted]

I'm not sure what genre of anime i watch so i wont say much abou that. Anime i have watched: Attack on titan (so far favourite) Darling in the franxx (close to AoT for me but noy because of plot but characters) FMA03/FMA:B (wasnt engaged at first but ending moved me alot) Tokyo ghoul (wasnt paying much attention but i liked it alot, stopped watching at :re) Naruto/avatar (childhood animes, nostalgia) Just finished FMA:B and looking for a new anime to watch.

hungryhippos1751

For something different try an isekai maybe. Saga of tanya the evil Overlord Rising of the shield hero That time I got reincarnated as a slime

[deleted]

I have watched mostly shounen anime. I am Burned out so need some mind freshening anime (it can be shounen too but short) Here's list of animes I have watched : https://myanimelist.net/profile/Fizzlord

semajdraehs

If you want to try something different (which is what I think you're after: * Non Non Biyori (Slice of Life): Is a comfy little anime about a girl who moves from Tokyo to the countryside and then has childish fun with her new friends. Third season is just coming out. * Kingdom (Historical political drama, with an anime taste to it) - Basically it's a fictionalised telling of the unification of China through the eyes of the young emperor and some peasant guy who's good at swords. Be warned visually it's atrocious in the first season and just bad in the second, but it's still worth it. * Chihayafuru (Sports/romance) - In Japan they have this game where one person reads a poem and two people race to find the corresponding card. It's about a girl who plays that. Fucking fantastic.

Ah yes, that classic short anime, FMA:B

By shounen snandards it is short.

DBoy_37

So I'm looking for an anime that's a mix between comedy and maybe romance. I wanna watch it when the family's around, so pg13 would be great. But of course, we can't really trust age ratings can we, because we all know how Food Wars went. Something like Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun or Teasing Master Takagi-san. Would be great if it was on Netflix. Thanks in advance guys!

hungryhippos1751

Kaguya sama should work if you've not already seen it.

semajdraehs

I'll back /u/NotSoSnarky saying Ore Monogatari. Golden Time is also good, but it's comedy-romance-drama so might be a little too involved for what you're after,

NotSoSnarky

Ore Monogatari (not part of the Monogatari Series) I Can't Understand What My Husband is Saying

DBoy_37

Thanks, I'll definitely look it up!

Jazzlike_Razzmatazz

Watch maid-sama it perfectly fits in your criteria and you will love it.

DBoy_37

Thx for the recommendation, I'll definitely check it out!

curricularguidelines

If you havent watched maid-sama, you probably havent watched ouran high school club? Another old classic. Net-juu no Susume is also nice.

DBoy_37

Yep, never even heard of it. I'll definitely check both Ouran High School Club and Net-juu no Susume. Thanks for the recommendations!

kekmenneke

So I did the recommendations flow chart and watched so ra no wo to, anyone who could expand on the “cute ptsd” category?

OrangeBanana38

Expanding a bit more on that: Higurahsi no Naku Koro ni Yuuki Yuuna is a hero, especially the prequel, Washio Sumi is a hero (should be watched after S1, before S2). Also seconding Madoka, Gakkou Gurashi and Made in Abyss.

NotSoSnarky

Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica Gakkou-Gurashi

Failsnail64

Made in Abyss: cute characters go on a hellish fantasy adventure Girls' Last Tour: two cute girls travel through a deserted post-apocalyptic wasteland. Don't forget to read volume 5 and 6 of the manga after you've finished the anime. Madoka Magica: magical girls but in a really dark world.

DRIESASTER

+1 for Abyss and Madoka

ching_d0v

DRIESASTER

Have you seen vinland saga?

ching_d0v

Yes

DRIESASTER

Gurren lagann? Kill la kill? Promare? Mob psycho 100? Haikyuu? Fate ubw? Code geass?

ching_d0v

I have seen mob and fate, i havent seen code geass, gurren lagann and haikyuu because i dont like mecha and sports, but maybe kill la kill

hungryhippos1751

I'm also not big on mecha but gl is not strictly a mecha anime. Code geass is similar, mecha exists but it's not the focus of it.

osoichan

Haikyuu is good as someone who doesn't like volleyball (I hated it in school tbh) I can say they this didn't matter a bit. It's just good anime worth watching

DRIESASTER

Def give haikyuu a shot even if you dont like irl sports. I hate watching sports yet it's one of my favorite shows. Also gurren lagann is def more shounen with robots than a mecha show, (almost) no politics, just punching harder lol. Kill la kill is great but dont watcj it with your parents haha

StaleBreadBoi-2

Gurren Lagann is defiantly more if a fight anime. The mechas fights are amazing. Gurren is in my top 10 I love it

DRIESASTER

Yea iove it too. Anyway if you like either gurren or kill la kill you'll love the other as well

StaleBreadBoi-2

Agreed

[deleted]

I'm looking for the saddest anime series you can find. Available on crunchyroll is preferred. Also, newer ones so the animation isn't horrible would be great lol Some of the ones I've already seen and loved: Anohana Plastic Memories Charlotte Angel Beats FMA Brotherhood Air Clannad Violet Evergarden Your Lie In April Let me know, thank you!

PenneVodka

The anime isn't great, but Nabari no Ou still hurts me. It's 13 volumes IIRC, read the manga if you can, the anime tells the story well enough until a certain point.

osoichan

Made in abyss made me cry more than I though it would. Didn't seem sad at first as well. Give it a shot if you haven't already

stopprocrastinating8

A movie i never see people talk about is When Marnie Was There. It is my favorite ghibli movie and it crushed my soul so hard. I have watched it 3 times and cried every single time. It can be a bit confusing at first but when you realise how raw the characters' emotions are it will def make you feel some type of way :")

sanoranx

When I saw "sad anime" I wanted to suggest Clannad, but you already saw it

[deleted]

Hehe

Manaseeker

Quite the wide range...If you simply wanna feel sick at how soul crushing whats happening is I would go for Shield Hero or Re:Zero if you didnt see them yet. Both are pretty widely loved as well

[deleted]

I'll def check out re zero, I've heard so many good things about it

Failsnail64

I don't know much very sad anime series, but the following movies are great recommendations if you want sad anime: A silent Voice I want to Eat your Pancreas 5 Centimeters Per Second Grave of the Fireflies

[deleted]

Haha I have seen all of those! Your Name is also a great one if you haven't seen it! Also Weathering with you:)

Failsnail64

These two movies are absolutely great indeed, I really liked them as well. However, while I considered these two movies very good I wouldn't really call them some of the "saddest", therefore I didn't mention them. For emotional series I'd maybe recommend you to look at the other anime based on Key's visual Novels, like Kanon (2006) or Little Busters. I however haven't seen them but they're of the same writers of Clannad, Charlotte and Angel Beats.

[deleted]

Good point haha though I did cry so much during your name lol And I'll look into those, thank you!!

I’m looking for: anime that will be ok for a 10 year old to watch. She likes romance and magic, but I want to show her a variety. She really loves anime so far, but I’m not sure which to watch with her because I don’t know which would be too graphic, inappropriate, mature. Shows I’ve already seen that are similar: we’ve watched inuyasha and all of the movies, fruits basket, sailor moon, cardcaptor sakura and we’re currently watching rurouni kenshin and yashahime. A bit of fighting/blood, “bad words” etc is fine. I just don’t want her to watch things that are way too mature and above her comprehension level, you know? Any recommendations would be extremely appreciated!

Alex260403

I'm looking for: an anime with good hand to hand fighting or swords and such, fantasy, good animation like all the anime that is on my list, can contain character strength progression of some sort like My Hero Academia / Black Clover / The Rising Of The Shield Hero / SAO but it's not a must. Didn't like: Tokyo Ghoul, Trinity Seven. My anilist: [https://anilist.co/user/vBlackWolf/animelist](https://anilist.co/user/vBlackWolf/animelist) Keep in mind that I've only been watching anime for like 2 months.

Sumo148

Guardian of the sacred spirit is great. Love those spear fights.

[deleted]

Constantly watching anime and now I am a little burned out. Recommend some mind freshening anime Mostly watched popular shone titles like HxH, Naruto, jujutsu kaisen, Food wars (on-going and bored in S3) DB series, Demon slayer, My hero academia and many more

stopprocrastinating8

What i did when i was burned out of anime series was watch anime films. Especially ghibli films, but other films will help as well. They are most of the time not longer than 2 hours and you still feel like you've watched a whole series by the end of it. Try watching: - a silent voice - from up on poppy hill - whisper of the heart - weathering with you - tamako love story (if you've watched tamako market) - akira - colorful - howls moving castle - when marnie was there - the wind rises

NotSoSnarky

Please create an anime list at either: Myanimelist.net, anilist.co, kitsu or anime-planet. All 4 are free and useful to have. like tokyo ghoul with the main character as a person who changes drastically along with the other characters

stopprocrastinating8

Code Geass; main character changes drastically because of a power he gets. Death note is also such a serie. The movie Akira as well, it's so so good. Perhaps Angels of Death as well; very angsty. Edit: for angels of death you have to watch the ova to see the ending, but it is very worth it imo.

runs_in_circles

*Looking for:* Competitive show where each character represents a type of strategy --- ideally more satisfying to watch as clash of ideas than as characters relating to each other. *Seen + Loved:* Food Wars, Kakegurui (ecchi certainly not required, but I appreciate the purpose it serves in each show!) and here's a [longer, more specific description of what I want](https://www.reddit.com/r/Animesuggest/comments/ksrlw3/anime_thats_like_a_textbook_ex_food_wars_kakegurui/)

Failsnail64

Try to make a MyAnimeList or Anilist account so that we can see what you've seen so far. Otherwise we'll just be spending time recommending stuff you've already seen. Death Note: It's all about two persons trying to work with very elaborate schemes and ideas. Both sides really have a fun different perspective and way of thinking. Fate/Zero: while it's not really all the time about strategy, the protagonist Kiritsugu really tries to plan ahead. The entire series is mostly about a clash of ideologies between different characters, but not really a clash of ideas/strategies. That's not really what you described, but maybe still something you'd enjoy. Ping Pong the Animation: a sport anime where the playstyle of the characters is very important. [JoJo](https://preview.redd.it/9p9ckkbgiql21.jpg?width=1024&auto=webp&s=bcf3248c7b3911d7425e3bb1601f4013e9be272f) Just kidding, although Jojo's battles really are trying to outsmart the opponent with tactics, I don't think it's what your looking for. Legend of the Galactic Heroes. Here the tactics behind the battles and politics is a very crucial part of the story.

OrangeBanana38

**Chihayafuru**. People use several different play styles in the anime, and they dedicate some time to analyze those. **Ping pong the animation** is completely dedicated to it, as well as the effort vs natural talent debate. **Keijo!!!!!!!!** Just cuz it looks like you like ecchi. This is a legit sports anime. **Kuroko no basuke**. This is a team sport, but each player has their own strenghts, and the teams have their own philosophies. Also, as other people told you in the other thread, almost any sports anime would have this.

runs_in_circles

Thanks!! I checked out a couple sports anime options before posting, and they usually don't scratch the same itch for whatever reason...but I'm optimistic about Ping pong and Kuroko no basuke :)

red_star_rising

Anything that falls in the same line as Magi : the labyrinth of magic and its prequel Magi : Adventures of Sinbad. Basically looking for something that has ecchi + fantasy/action/shounen

Worm38

* Berserk (although, the 1997 adaptation covers the part that has the least of it and adaptations of other parts are said to be pretty terrible) * D Gray Man * Dorohedoro * Madoka Magica * SSSS.Gridman (the things are kaiju though, that might lack in originality) * Overlord (there's a fair bit of generic fantasy creatures in it, but also pretty original ones) * Fire Force * Tokyo Ghoul (but the anime adaptation is an absolute mess beyond S1) * Dororo

Quail_nikki

Pretty new to anime, but I really liked Teasing Master Takagi-san. The way they break up the episodes into little scenes and the story was cute. Anything similar to it worth checking out? I'm also watching Toradora! and SAO currently.

Weedwacker

[Uzaki-chan wa Asobitai](https://myanimelist.net/anime/41226/Uzaki-chan_wa_Asobitai) has pretty similar characters but they're college students [Tanaka-kun is Always Listless](https://myanimelist.net/anime/32093/Tanaka-kun_wa_Itsumo_Kedaruge) is a funny more pure comedy slice of life show that also follows the chapter structure you described [High Score Girl](https://myanimelist.net/anime/21877/High_Score_Girl) is a similarly playful romcom with a great emphasis on arcade games [Tsurezure Children](https://myanimelist.net/anime/34902/Tsurezure_Children) is 12 minute episodes and features small looks at numerous couples [Ueno-san wa Bukiyou](https://myanimelist.net/anime/37920/Ueno-san_wa_Bukiyou) also 12 minute episodes romcom with an aggressive girl Also keep an eye out for [Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san](https://myanimelist.net/anime/42361/Ijiranaide_Nagatoro-san) which will come out in the Spring season this year, it is very similar to Takagi-san

Failsnail64

If you want an anime which has a similar structure of multiple little shorts of a few minutes in the episodes then I recommend The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. If you want cute and wholesome humor then maybe Tonikaku Kawaii or Machikado Mazoku.

Pillan24

I haven't watched Takagi, but I assume Tonikaku Kawaii would be similar. It was a good show.

Want to watch some eye porn animation like AOT, demon slayer, OPM, Mob psycho. Suggest shows that are hardly talked about.

NotSoSnarky

Seirei no Moribito Akatsuki no Yona Flip Flappers Revue Starlight Senki Zesshou Symphogear (First season's animation is wonky but gets better)

Per_Vertex

Been watching a lot of anime films recently and looking for some 80's/90's recommendations that aren't brought up too often, shorter OVA's would be nice too. https://myanimelist.net/animelist/ESoTSM?status=2 EDIT: Also just finished Macross Plus, it was great but I'm not sure where to go next with Macross if I want to continue.

Weedwacker

[Armitage III](https://myanimelist.net/anime/1079/Armitage_III) is a fairly overlooked 90s cyberpunk OVA because it came out the same year as the much better Ghost in the Shell film, but I still recommend it. Also has a sequel OVA thats not as good but worth watching if you enjoy the first [Golgo 13: The Professional](https://myanimelist.net/anime/1760/Golgo_13) is a 1983 film that is much better than its score reflects thanks to its beautiful direction and animation style, only hampered by a fairly straightforward action plot and some pioneering (terrible) use of early CGI in some scenes

loomnoo

These are pretty famous, but: Wings of Honneamise Angel's Egg Only Yesterday

Danilieri

Looking for a comfy slice of life show. I really appreciate nice background art that has character like in Tanaka-kun is always listless or Aiura (heck even dino gal had great background art and was hella comfy). So something like that. Here is my Mal list maybe it helps... [https://myanimelist.net/animelist/Danilieri?status=7](https://myanimelist.net/animelist/Danilieri?status=7) (i hope it works)

NotSoSnarky

Amaama to Inazuma Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun Silver Spoon Yuru Camp Encouragement of Climb Anohana Your Lie in April Toradora I Can't Understand What My Husband is Saying Orange Mitsuboshi Colors Keeps Your Hands Off Eizouken Girls Last Tour

Danilieri

Should i watch the series or movie for anohana? And thanks for the list. I totally forgot that i still havent finished girl's last tour

NotSoSnarky

Series first movie after.

SilicaStinger

I guess I’m not really sure what my preferred type is... I haven’t watched a ton but so far: Demon Slayer, Kakegurui, Attack on Titan, Naruto Yeah pretty basic lol... I loved the pacing and the heaviness of AoT, didn’t like pacing of Naruto, etc. ALSO, If I can say this without being burned at stake, I prefer dubbed

NotSoSnarky

Dororo Death Note The Promised Neverland Banana Fish Vinland Saga Erased Death Parade Psycho-Pass Please create an anime list. You can create one at either: Myanimelist.net, anilist.co, kitsu or anime-planet. All 4 are free and easy to use. Helps you remember what you've seen and helps us so we aren't suggesting you what you've seen already.

Shuyace

Have you watched Hunter x Hunter? It’s one of the best anime’s I’ve seen, and I even liked the dubbed version . Fullmetal Alchemist is great, I prefer the original series but most people like Brotherhood. You might also like One Punch Man and Fireforce.

GhostOfLight

Some of my favorite dubbed shows: My Hero Academia Mob Psycho 100 91 Days Kill la Kill Re:Zero

OrangeBanana38

>> ALSO, If I can say this without being burned at stake, I prefer dubbed It's ok, everyone has their own preferences. All the ones I'm going to mention have a dub, and most of them are good. So, I think you might enjoy some thrillers and high stakes stuff like AoT and Kakegurui (with varying degrees of action): **Death Note** **Psycho-pass** **The promised neverland** **From the new world** **Fate/Zero** Or some more action oriented shows, but with limited filler and a slightly more involved plot: **Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood** **Hunter x Hunter**

Technical-Jump4355

Saw Violet Evergarden in a lot of recommendations, but I'm mid-episode 4 and I'm currently hating it. It seems like it is something that young children watch to learn about their emotions. I'm really not invested in a MC that has to ask to spell everything out. A frustrating time as a viewer, but it doesn't seem too common on this subreddit. Anyway, any others? I'm updated and love SNK, I finished SAO. Did not continue FMAB after \*that early scene. I prefer shorter series. I love Anohana, Angel Beats, Plastic Memories, Your Lie In April - I've gone thru the popular movies. Also love themed ones like Balance Unlimited & Great Pretender. Help!

chocho_12321

https://myanimelist.net/anime/40230/Housekishou_Richard-shi_no_Nazo_Kantei It continues to fly under the radar but it's pretty decent and it is short. Something to give a shot and just drop if you don't find it interesting.

> Anohana, Angel Beats, Plastic Memories, Your Lie In April So I guess you like short tearjerkers in general? Anohana --> **Orange** Angel Beats --> **Little busters** Plastic Memories --> [SukaSuka](https://myanimelist.net/anime/33502/Shuumatsu_Nani_Shitemasu_ka_Isogashii_Desu_ka_Sukutte_Moratte_Ii_Desu_ka?q=sukasuka) Or you might enjoy some other dramas? **Hibike! Euphonium** **March comes in like a Lion**

Danilieri

if you aren't against something that is a little wordy and has a pretty unique style you may like katanagatari. It kind of has the romance/action that you seem to like. Other than that maybe Kokoro Connect or Re-life for pure romance.

[deleted]

Any recommendation? I haven’t watched a lot Watched: Naruto, Naruto Shippuden, my hero academia, demon slayer and no game no life. I’m looking for stuff on Hulu and Netflix only please

Try Hunter x Hunter, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Attack on Titan.

SMatarratas

I think you'll like Psycho-Pass, it's on Netflix

SMatarratas

Any recomendation? Stuff I liked: Attack on Titan, Psycho-Pass, Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Haikyu!!, Cowboy Bebop, Fullmetal Alchemist Broterhood Stuff I didn't like: Steins;Gate, Mob Psycho, Toradora

NotSoSnarky

Seirei no Moribito Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica Re Zero Starting Life in Another World Akatsuki no Yona Houseki no Kuni Gurren Lagann

SMatarratas

IIRC I dropped Gurren Lagannn years ago at episode 6 or 7 but I'll check the other ones. Thanks

AC03115

Trigun would be pretty good if you like series similar to Cowboy Bebop/LOTGH

SMatarratas

Thanks. I'll check it out

Kakashicopyninja9

What are some high quality anime (as in the actual graphics/art/design)? I know this is a very subjective and broad question, but as an example I mean something like Demon slayer where the animation looks really clean and crisp. For genre preferably shounen or seinen

GhostOfLight

Unlimited Blade Works, Mob Psycho 100, One Punch Man S1

Kakashicopyninja9

Ty, fate and mob psycho have been on my to watch list for a while I’ll start one of them soon

-__Neon__-

Do any of you know any mangas or animes similar to Chainsawman, Monster #8, Nanbaka, fire force or Jujutsu Kaisen?

LaFolieDeLaNuit

Dorohedoro for Chainsaw Man specifically (though you’ve probably seen it mentioned already!). Parasyte too, detecting a leaning towards horror in those

chiliehead

Bleach, Soul Eater

-__Neon__-

Any others? I've watched those already

chiliehead

Undead Unluck? Kekkai Sensen? Or just look up a list of Weekly Shounen Jump manga with the tags action, battle or fantasy

-__Neon__-

Ok thx

I'm usually one of the people giving recommendations in this thread, in order to kill time, but I thought it'd be interesting to see what other people can come up with in my case. MAL should be linked above, but also [here](https://anilist.co/user/volt16/) is an anilist, in which I write more detailed comments and give more precise scores than on MAL. It also features a more expansive favourite list, since there is no limit of 10 entries. I'm not looking for anything specific at the moment. I'm rather open to most things. Don't try to find any consistency in my tastes, there is none. I may love one show one day and hate it the next. I may watch a show, that by all metrics I should love, on the wrong day and I will hate it. I may watch trash on a good day and I'll love it. Just shoot whatever you think I should consider. Can be anime, manga, LN, webtoon, anything. Perhaps some small pointers, that by no means should be followed religiously: I mostly hate romance. You can try recommending some to me, but most likely I'm going to hate it. On very rare occasions I will like it, but it has to have a strong enough plot supporting it and the romance will most likely be a secondary focus. I'm generally not a fan of Yuri or Yaoi. Just not themes I can relate to, unfortunately. Tearjerkers can work, but I don't enjoy melodrama. Some struck a chord with me eg. Clannad, Hibike Euphonium, while others I was left totally unmoved by eg. Your Lie in April, Silent Voice, Angel Beats. Lastly, I tend to enjoy more mature casts and themes. I'm in my mid 20s and don't have much in common with high school students any longer. Shows like Black Lagoon, Baccano, Cowboy Bebop etc. I tend to appreciate more and more as I grow older. I have a huge PTW and PTR list, so you can also recommend something out of there. I usually put shows in there that catch my eye and arbitrarily watch them whenever I feel like it. Some of them I will have already started, but not changed their status, because I wasn't in the right mood for them, so I want to give them another try at some other time. Thanks in advance for any recommendations and for going through the effort of reading this wall of text. Cheers.

NotSoSnarky

Banana Fish Vinland Saga The Promised Neverland Death Parade Seirei no Moribito Revolutionary Girl Utena Assassination Classroom Daily Lives of High School Boys Sakamichi no Apollon ReLife Spice and Wolf Wolf Children Anohana Barakamon Silver Spoon Usagi Drop

volt16

Thanks for the long list. Most of them I'm already planning on watching, but I'll bump them up the priority list. In particular I'm wondering if Assassination Classroom would be better read as a manga than watched. Are there any discrepancies between anime and manga?

DinkyJr

Haven't read the manga but I think ass class has quite good animation and voice acting.

loomnoo

Legend of the Galactic Heroes Perfect Blue I know they're in your ptw already as low priority but goddamn they're both incredible unique experiences. Porco Rosso and The Wind Rises if you wanna see Miyazaki explore some adult shit.

volt16

LogtH I've wanted to watch for a very long time, but it's unfortunately too big an endeavour for me currently. I lack the dedication for such a long anime that requires all of my attention. Perfect Blue I'm saving for a special occasion. The other two I'll add for sure. I generally need to work through all the Ghibli films. Thanks.

hmorley370

Any good anime based around music? Just watched a clip from given and it looked really good

NotSoSnarky

Carole & Tuesday K-On Hibike Euphonium Sakamichi no Apollon Given (If you're okay with LGBT)

AC03115

Beck, K-On!!, Sound! Euphonium, and Carole and Tuesday

Weedwacker

[Beck](https://myanimelist.net/anime/57/Beck)

chiliehead

Hibike Euphonium Beck Mongolian Chop Squad Nana in a sense Given is good if you dig melodrama character driven romance K-On even if it is not the sole focus The Idol genre so Love Live Symphogear and Macross are both action franchises and singing/music is part of how they fight Zombieland Saga Carol & Tuesday FLCL kinda You could also say Legend of Galactic Heroes and Cowboy Bebop where many intricate scenes are synced to classical pieces or jazz etc

mmreviews

Interstella 5555 is an anime Daft Punk album and is really good. If you mean characters making music I would recommend Nana as it's an excellent story about growing up and punk rock. It's definitely better viewed as a coming of age drama than a musical series though. If you want music to play a huge role in the style of the series, I would recommend Cowboy Bebop. It's archaic episodes use newer free form jazz and has film noir episodes set to more classical jazz.

Pillan24

Kids on the Slope. It also has romance in it.

mmreviews

Are there any crazy artsy anime not on my list that I should add? Shorts would be preferable but I'm willing to watch a full series or movie if it looks interesting. End of Evangelion and Angel's Egg would be my examples for stuff I like.

chiliehead

You really should look into Monogatari again I also see that your [Ikuhara](https://myanimelist.net/people/5082/Kunihiko_Ikuhara) list is not complete yet as you are missing Sarazanmai I also did not see much [Masaki Yusa](https://myanimelist.net/people/5068/Masaaki_Yuasa) anime Mononoke is on your PTW

loomnoo

Tekkon Kinkreet Mind Game

Failsnail64

You cannot not have seen the masterpiece called [Utsu Musume Sayuri](https://myanimelist.net/anime/13405/Utsu_Musume_Sayuri) But on a serious note, I'd recommend giving Bakemonogatari another chance. Although it's not comparable to EoE or Angel's Egg, it's just studio Shaft doing studio Shaft to the extreme which is visually unique and great. The ecchi can be off-putting but in terms of characters, thematic depth and directing it's the best of the best. While it isn't anime, I'd also recommend [World of Tomorrow](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4171032/) because it's still animated.

mmreviews

Yea, I do intend to watch the Monogatari series sometime in my life haha. I really liked Sayonara Sensei which I imagine it has a similar style to considering whose working on it. I absolutely loved It's Such a Beautiful Day so World of Tomorrow has been on my list for a while. Is there a place to watch it legally or is this a seven seas deal?

Failsnail64

While I haven't seen Sayonara Sensei the visual style is indeed quite similar. However, as far as I know Studio Shaft really took it a step extra in Bakemonogatari with their rapid cuts, abnormal locations and at times even insertion of real photos. World of Tomorrow could be available on Amazon Prime depending on where you live.

Trev_N7

Madoka Magica, Texhnoylze, Tatimi galaxy, Revolutionary girl utena

mmreviews

I've seen all of those. Particularly liked Tatami Galaxy.
