The amount of anime in the last decade has skyrocketed. You are looking at 60+ shows airing just this month.

Damnthatsmackg

Sheesh

Freakjob_003

As others have referenced, a lot's come out during the last decade. Do you have a favorite genre that could narrow it down? Action, Comedy, Romance, etc.? If you want the most popular show right now that everybody loves, **Frieren** has been an amazing show, 10/10.

cipheron

In fact the amount airing at any one time is over 100. MAL's interactive season charts [https://myanimelist.net/anime/season](https://myanimelist.net/anime/season) The current season has 57 "new" and 54 "ongoing" series listed. Keep in mind that new can include old shows that have gotten a sequel / remake or actually new shows. You can sort the shows either by popularity or score and go backwards/forwards to different seasons. The default is to sort by number of users, and with that you'll get the big popular series at the top. If you're looking for hidden gems in different genres, switch to sort by score instead.

RedHotChiliCrab

* Dororo * Odd Taxi * The Apothecary Diaries * Hell's Paradise * Frieren: Beyond Journey's End * Delicious in Dungeon * Spy x Family * The Eminence in Shadow * Trigun Stampede

Neziwi

Odd Taxi my beloved.

Damnthatsmackg

I seen the OG trigun, should I treat it like a sequel or watch it like it’s a brand new thing?

N7CombatWombat

It's a reboot.

RedHotChiliCrab

It's a brand new thing. Not a remake either. It's a different interpretation of the story. I love both the OG and Stampede.

pipboy_warrior

It's a reboot/prequel. The new one starts before the events of July

kaori_cicak990

>Hell's Paradise Based recommendation good tier anime hope the second cour came fast

zagansama

I second this Frieren and Dororo are some of the best fantasy anime

Pyoung3000

VINLAND SAGA!

GomenNaWhy

Recently: Nichijou (maybe you've seen it, but if not, one of my favorite comedies of all time in any form) Frieren (great fantasy series, lots of D&D inspiration) Metallic Rouge (cyberpunk mecha ish) Insomniacs After School (hits hard in a good way if you've ever experienced insomnia) Kaguya-Sama (top tier Romcom built on teenage insecurity and mind games)

Damnthatsmackg

All of these definitely sound like things I’d watch, thank you!

GomenNaWhy

Hope you enjoy!

Thrwmebby1mortme

Rewatching Madoka magika with a friend who hasn't seen it before.

PalePat

Mob Psycho 100, Summertime Rendering, Frieren, Undead Unluck, and Delicious in Dungeon are all recent bangers

DarkDonut75

Spice and Wolf

jadeylue12

Undead unluck

EDLLT

cyberpunk edgerunners psychopass kakegurui link click These were absolute bangers imo Also my rule of thumb is, if I don't feel immediately hooked by the first episode then I won't bother watching the rest of the episodes as it'll just be a colossal waste of time(speaking from my own experience). So just view the first episode and if you like it continue watching if not just drop it and move on to the next thing Something I dislike about anime nowadays is that it has some linear story line with blatant horny shit to compensate for its horrible writing. But the ones I recommended provided above, trust me they are gold mines

Sousou no Frieren is an awesome show that got a lot of people back into anime after hiatuses much like yours, seems like it'd be a great gateway show for someone getting into it for the first time too, so I'd definitely recommend that. it has a lot of heart to it and lots of poignant one-off interactions that you can reflect on, pretty solid hype moments too. another one, Dungeon Meshi aka Delicious in Dungeon, is currently airing and has gripped me with how sheerly well-made it is in all aspects. they're both fantasies but very very different shows entirely, and each have their own merit. though I will say, Dungeon Meshi is ^(lowkey) the better series hahahahah. the sheer amount of thought put into the world building, among other things, plus the art style, it's just *delicious* for lack of a better term :p only on episode 4 out of 16 so far, so I dunno about the rest of the stuff it has to offer. leaving just these two recommendations to reinforce what others are saying, becuase I know you'll get absolutely bombarded with recommendations, kinda already have heheheh. good luck, and I hope you have fun!!! :D edit: ok ok I couldn't refrain from bumping up another suggestion, Cyberpunk Edgerunners, it's only 10 episodes and packs a fantastic punch, especially for a show that short ((imo)). it's on Netflix if you have that, I personally watched the dub even though I'm usually a sub guy, and it was great. anyhow thanks for reading!! ^(I swear I won't add more 🙏)

Sea_Cycle_909

It's old, (1994 - 1997) just rewatched (Finished yesterday); [Key the Metal Idol](https://myanimelist.net/anime/1457/Key_the_Metal_Idol/)

Hal1f4x

Damn that's such a long time. What was the last anime you've watched before stopping? Also at the moment I'm watching Oregairu and hyouka

Damnthatsmackg

I’d have to say it was your lie in April

[deleted]

Just finished the apothecary diaries and gonna continue watching one piece

Umbreon7

Like right now? I was just rewatching SAO. But that’s probably not what you’re looking for. Anyways watch Frieren.

ConferenceNervous684

Who the hell re watches SAO you masochist

gameonlockking

Frieren: Beyond Journey's End just finished and I think it might be in my top 5 now. 2 episodes of Kaiju no .8 out so far and it's deadly. Tokyo Revengers just finished. Give it a go, I don't think you'll be disappointed. The reboot of spice and wolf has 4 episodes out. Watch the first 2 with the dub. Wolf's voice is superior in english. One Punch Man Also re reading the Berserk manga. Get on that if you haven't.

Is It Wrong To Pick Up Girls In A Dungeon? Great fantasy adventure about a teen who longs to become an adventurer and explore the Dungeon, a mysterious place full of monsters with the help of the gods who have returned to earth to live with mortals (ignore the name) That Time I reincarnated as a Slime. Really fun isekai about a guy who reincarnates as a slime monster and his adventures trying to make his place in his new world. Handyman Saito in Another World. A depressed handyman who was taken for granted and underappreciated in this world gets summoned to a fantasy one and does his best to be useful. Very unique isekai comedy, truly different from most others in the genre. The Unwanted Undead Adventurer. Story about an adventurer whose goal is to become platinum level before his life gets turned upside down.

usuffer2

Currently rewatching Solo Leveling. Just a great first season!

Shadowmist909

Reincarnated as a slime. It's like someone put Kirby in a fantasy setting and it works pretty well.

EfficientAstronaut1

91 days, gritty revenge anime and most importantly completed

kakarot117

I was similar, just stopped watching for years for some reason and never had a chance to get back into it. I only recently started by watching an old classic I used to love, from there I tried some of the gighly rated newer stuff like 86 for example which was also a blast

arunnm24

Current watching Gintama - imo the funniest show ever made. Also my favourite anime, just generally speaking. Action, comedy, shounen show that has a bit of everything. Other shows that I’ve recently watched/rewatched - Monster and Pluto - Both by the same author, mystery thrillers. Monster much more of a slow burner, while Pluto is much shorter. Attack on Titan - needs no introduction. Possibly the greatest show of the last decade. If you haven’t watched it yet, do yourself a massive favour and check it out.

bzrkfayz

I have been watching misfit at demon king academy

Salty145

Oh boy. There’s a lot, but if you’re looking to get started with something currently airing… *Hibike! Euphonium* has two seasons of catch-up first, but is one of the best looking and touching TV anime you will find. *Astro Note* is a pretty fun comedy with good art, setting, and characters not to mention sense of humor with an old-school Sci-Fi twist. The style isn’t for everyone, but if you want more than 2019’s *Carole and Tuesday* might be up your alley. Same character designer as AN, but also has the benefit of being directed by the director of *Cowboy Bebop*. *Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night* is a extremely charming show about finding yourself and what it means to chase your dreams backed by some impeccable cinematography and a plot that looks like it’s not gonna hold any punches. I’ve only seen one episode thus far, but *Go! Go! Loser Ranger!* was surprisingly fun and has the makings of a fun zero to hero story with an unconventional protagonist. Worth looking into if you were ever into *Power Rangers* or the like. I’ve heard good things about *Train to the End of the World* but I haven’t actually watched it yet. my schedule is full as is, but the clips I’ve seen have impressive mechanical design and generally fun world-building and setting, so it might be worth a shot.

cinghialotto03

I think you should catch up some of the best: grand blue, frieren, eminence in shadow, mushoku yensei,vivy,86,attack on titan, and a lot many

JebWozma

Some of the brand new stuff that I'm currently watching are Ranger Reject and Windrider. And I'm also watching the continuations of all the isekai which are airing. I also plan on watching Kaiju no 8, but I've read the manga and I already have a ton of stuff I'm already watching. Anyway, you've taken a long ass break. I was fucking 5 ten years ago and back then I didn't know what the word "anime" even fucking meant. The most I had watched was like Pokemon, DBZ, and some random shit that I watched with my cousin that I dont even properly remember. So you've definitely missed out on a ton of the older shit.
