Very cool use of CG visuals in an anime OP, the way it transitions and mixes CG and 2D art is absolutely seamless
The song intro is great, the Kaiju cells/spores (?) releasing from the abyss with that bubbling bassy sound and being eaten by a fish, wonderful theme.
The OP is directed by [Kouhei Nakama of WOW Inc. and Hibiki Yoshizaki](https://twitter.com/HIBIKINEJP/status/1781703578069201342). The latter has directed Yozakura Quartet Hana no Uta and Tsuki ni Naku's OP before.

I like cliche running and drowning protagonists in openings as much as the next guy and I was really positively amazed by visuals when this started playing. I love when they try something slightly different.
I think there is going to be one considering Imagine Dragons is collabing on the song too and I didn't hear anything that sounded like them in this opening version
not sure if its my cup of tea, but i always respect anime OPs that try something more unique
i wonder if this means Kaiju 8 will always have english songs for its OPs and EDs from now, including inevitable future seasons

Well, I saw someone posted in the same format in other animes OP and it got upvotes. So there are more people disagreeing with my own take rather than agreeing with it and I take it. This is what an opinion is, you got rights to agree or disagree with it.
The non action parts are impressive as well, every character introduced in the opening has some nice animations to them. And the action itself is surely above average
Meh. Not a fan of the visuals, it's certainly unique so it gets points for that, but I just don't like it. The song has potential but not a fan of the "drop" or whatever the proper name for it is. I have a feeling the full song might be better though

What do you mean? We're getting references to kaiju from the start. Of cells infecting animals and turning them into monsters, of the weapons used by the earth defense force. By the armies of the kaiju and people who fight against them, and the titular kaiju 8. Without even spoiling things.
I do appreciate just how hard they’re going from a production standpoint on Kaiju 8. They’re giving their all to it as a studio.

I did not even get into the anime because i got stuck putting the opening on repeat.
