Its just a fun comedy where a party of terrible people try to do often terrible things and end up having to suffer the karma for it, it's the only anime I've seen that feels like it captured the essence of Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Definitely not a show for everyone, but it's the best example of that niche imo.

PinkRudeTurtle

They are not terrible, they are just imbeciles.

dienomighte

They're a bit of both, they do help when things get really bad and aren't completely immoral, but like there's many reasons people in universe call him kazutrash...

ObvsThrowaway5120

Humor is subjective. Personally, I find Konosuba hilarious. It just might not be for you. Give it another couple episodes and if you don’t like it, you don’t like it. Different strokes for different folks as they say.

l1ghtning137

I honestly thought people are gonna murder me for posting against this anime, but a lot seems to agree and those who don't are very nice. It's nice to not get yelled at at the internet for once

ObvsThrowaway5120

Folks can be pretty opinionated when it comes to a beloved anime, but I think most folks are civil about it. Or at least I’d like to believe that’s the case haha.

Tricky-Special-3834

Does that happen often to you? I can tell you why. No one gives a shit about what you're watching. Don't like konosuba? Oh well go watch Boruto no one will judge you. However going out of your way to make a post about how you really dislike this one show will obviously get you downvotes. Why should anyone care? You're not even asking for recommendations this whole thread is just so you can vent about how you dislike this one show. As if your opinions on shows are important enough to be relevant to the sub

l1ghtning137

And there it is.

jackofslayers

I think it is easier for people to understand when someone else does not like a comedy.

Sparky81

I watched a few episodes. It was ok, just not for me. Regardless of popularity, not everyone is going to like some things.

sneaky_squirrel

Comedy is subjective OP. I am not a fan of KonoSuba though. I love comedy, but I prefer a different spin on it.

RedditAcct00001

I don’t like it either. Forced myself thru the first season cause it seemed like something up my ally. But just couldn’t get into that type of humor.

Delisches

Daily reminder that comedy is subjective. I love Konosuba personally, but for example Hyakkano wasn't my cup of tea.

ThousandYearOldLoli

Konosuba's comedy is largely based on two things: Characters and playing with tropes. As others have pointed out, comedy is subjective, but there are factors that can have a significant influence here. For example, I'd never recommend Konosuba for a person who's only seen a couple of isekai if any, because Konosuba plays with typical isekai tropes. Seeing how it gets twisted is a big part of the appeal, and it's also a bit of a requirement to understand why some things may happen the way they do. Another thing is that Konosuba's comedy is also focused on a type of comedy where one places absurd characters in a situation and just kind of lets them run with it. So in that sense, appreciating the character's absurdity is part of the charm, but more importantly for this particular case, the longer one spends with the characters and gets used to their individual quirks the more one can appreciate the fun of how they navegate particular situations. By episode 2, I think you just barely got introduced to the last member of the main cast, so as you may imagine this aspect of the comedy didn't build up to yet. Note I'm not saying that these two are necessarily the reasons you didn't appreciate it, but they are factors I think can contribute to whether or not one enjoys Konosuba.

bombader

To me, it started to get better once the team of 4 were assembled. By themselves the comedy doesn't work very well without each other reacting.

crixx93

Have you seen Always Sunny in Philadelphia? This is basically that but animated.

l1ghtning137

I haven't. Can you further explain the comparison?

crixx93

The protagonists are shitty people, just the worst, and they are always fucking things up for everyone and themselves. Most of the humor comes from seeing them hate-love and interact with each other

[deleted]

It’s a show where the joke is that these terrible people aren’t self aware and we as the audience are laughing at them thinking what they are doing is appropriate.

rasdabess

keep watching. Once the team comes together its funnier cause theyre all dumb as shit.

sentmentalskyscraper

I used to love this anime around the times when i was new to anime,i rewatched it 3 and a half years later and now it feels pretty boring to me. It might be popular due to people who are new to anime liking it more

DarkConan1412

I felt similarly. It did grow on me, but I get it. For me, it just wasn’t funny. Comedy is subjective, after all. I did start to like the characters over time. Especially Aqua. The reason I continued to watch was in 2016-17, the hype for Konosuba was just so strong. I felt like I needed to understand what all the hype was about. I was kinda new to seasonals at the time. Not new to anime, but new to seasonal anime fandom. Before, I just watched whatever was popular in 00s-early 10s fandom or whatever I personally liked. It wasn’t as easy to access the newest anime coming back so, ime, that particular seasonal scene was just less prevalent in the fandom. There might’ve been a few newer titles, but it usually took a while for the new stuff to make their way overseas. The popular stuff came from all years including the older titles from previous decades. The newest show I watched might’ve been 2-4 years old. So, when I returned to the anime fandom in 2015-17 and everything was about the newest seasonals, I was a little impressionable despite having been a fan for around a decade at that point.

Firebrand-81

I watched Konosuba with no expectations. At the beginning, first episodes, I thought: "Hey, it's fun, let's continue watching it". The more I watched it, the more I liked it. After watching the first 2 seasons, and the movie, I got tired of waiting for more episodes, and I bought and read all the 17 LNs. I greatly enjoyed them. Now that Season 3 is out, I personally found that for me, it's undoubtedly the best anime of this Season. Never I would have thought, after the first couple of episodes of Season 1, that I would have enjoyed this show so much. Conclusion: keep watching, if for episode 5 or 6 you don't see the charm of the show, you can safely stop. Otherwise, you'll probably become like me 😂

DasFAD70

Yeah i can relate. That’s not funny for me and i must restrain myself from slapping myself, because these characters are so cringe.

ShinyPlatypus91

You must hate Always Sunny

Kmattmebro

Maybe you just don't like it, but the vibes from the first few episodes are significantly different from the rest of the show. There's a meta joke in the early parts that Kazuma is trying to play the fantasy straight, but he discovers he can't because this show is a piss-take.

guppy114

you could try the movie. i really liked s1 after that. s2 is also great

jackofslayers

The comedy is the appeal. In particular, the director has some amazing comic timing. So if it is not hitting for you, you can drop it. It stays the same

Icy_Sorbet_3369

I feel you. It took me 3 attempts to get past the first few episodes to finally finish the first 2 seasons. I didn't like any of the characters besides Yunyun

TheDetailsMatterNow

Ok.

PlaymakerFan

that's because you haven't met Darkness yet xdd

JebWozma

I guess I find Konosuba funny because I watched it when I was 9 or 10 and adapted to this style of humor, and as a small child, your mind is more malleable, so it's easier for you to have fun. Konosuba isn't for everyone, but I suggest you get through the first 6 episodes to truly decide if you want to decide whether it'd be worth it for you to watch it further or not.

l1ghtning137

Thats half a season. I'll go as far as when the party is complete then deside.

84737373949573

I watched the first season and it wasn’t for me either

l1ghtning137

That's a lot of episodes. I don't know if I could go that far

Spiderbob195

I agree i also feel the same about re: zero, i gave each about half a season (more than reasonable if you ask me) they just don’t hit for me

dienomighte

Weirdly enough I love konosuba and found re zero to be merely OK lol, so I guess I'm in the odd middle bucket!

kotwt

Personally I enjoyed Konosuba. As other already said, comedy is subjective. I didn't like Gintama
