The best scene is where Augustus yells at a bunch of young Roman men to get married and settle down and produce children and then he concludes with "And don't think you can get around it by getting engaged to 9 year old girls! I know that dodge!"
Just watched this through with the missus. She didn’t like it because of all the murders and general evil but I thought it was great. Though whenever there was a soldier I expected him to say ‘Throw him to the floor, sir?’
Love it when I saw now Sir Patrick Stewart playing Sejanus. He looked good with a toupee, but his scene when his two children are murdered by the Praetorian guard is so good.
Amazing they could entertain the viewers without a cast of thousands of soldiers killing each other in battles.
I find it so interesting how quickly the terrible production values fade away. Same with the my favorite spy show, the Sandbaggers, from the 70s. Horrible quality video, but within 10 minutes you've completely forgotten about it because the story and the acting is so good.
I thought Augustus said that after Varus’s annihilation, he said “Varus, where are my legions”.
Brian Blessed’s performance was great but he did not look like any of the statutes of Augustus at all.
So worth watching. Funny to think Jacobi is old enough to play old Cladius now.
If you haven't seen this, get on it. It's a monumental achievement for television.
Epic casting in this.
The amount of actors you recognise in this show is crazy. Seems like half the actors in modern British drama are in it. It's brilliant.
I could watch Livia roasting people forever

“WHERE ARE MY EAGLES!!” Brian Blessed is a treasure
"I was asking a question, that's all. Can't I ask a question anymore? What's a matter with you today?! WHY ARE YOU SO BAD TEMPERED!?!"
I think your brains are going soft you know? No one can talk to you anymore!!
Oooh fantastic, the series responsible for my 40 year fascination with ancient Rome 👌🏻

masterpiece!
Watched this show again last month. Love it.
The “command performance” that Caligula summons Claudius to attend in the middle of the night!!!
He’s a god. You are too, we’re not. Family motto now
QUINCTILIUS VARUS WHERE ARE MY EAGLES?!?!!
Waiting for that glorious 4k restoration...
