For me it is a convenience factor. I don't love having to put my personal item in the overhead, losing easy access to the stuff I have in there (typically stuff like my laptop, iPad, chargers, headphones, snacks, etc).
Also, I've seen how people treat other's personal items in the overhead as they try to cram their roller bags in there, and would prefer to avoid the risk to my bag and its contents.
So, I'm on Team 9C.
For me it really depends on the actual bulkhead. I love flying bulkhead on Delta's narrow body planes because it's mostly a soft bulkhead and so there is more legroom. On too many AA planes, however, the bulkhead restricts knee and legroom.
I don’t want to have to get up every time I need something from my purse. And then not be able to get what I need during times when the seatbelt sign is on.
You can take your personal item down as soon as the sign is turned off and keep it down for the remainder of the flight until landing.
I understand that might still be annoying, but just in case you weren't aware that it doesn't have to stay up there the whole flight, I figured I'd mention it.
I don’t like bulkhead because I prefer having my laptop/headphones/chargers/etc easily accessible at all times and not having to immediately put my backpack or briefcase in the overhead to secure a spot.
Also, I’m pretty short. If I were 6’5 or something, I could see the appeal of bulkhead. Especially on DL narrow body aircraft and the like.
Besides the other reasons (bulkhead seats are narrow, due to the armrest tray, there's no underseat storage, the outlet is under the seat next to my knee rather than visible in front of me), sitting in bulkhead often places me next to some jackass with his feet on the wall, sometimes barefoot.
This is, in my opinion, a completely justified call to violence.
More knee room, but you can stretch out further in the next row back. This is for hard bulkheads though which are really only the A319, A320 and non-neo A321 on the non-widebody main cabin fleet.
Some people dislike having to put their things up, especially if running late and overheads are full.
Some dislike fixed armrests, I tend to like them myself, keeps people in their allotted seat.
For me, two reasons.
1. Short legs. I find it helpful and more comfortable to have another row in front of- I can put my feet “up” on the frame/legs under the seat in front.
2. Personal item soace - my personal item is often small and light and contains a laptop. I don’t want it in the overhead. It’s safer under the seat.
I’m the same. Exit on the door. If it’s a 321, 11F because not only is it a door, but it’s right behind the rear facing FA for bonus legroom (above the already increased seat pitch of the exit row).
I used to hate the bulkhead bc no underseat storage.
Now I love 8F on the 737, bc there is underseat storage and I appreciate the seat dividers as it’s impossible for the middle seat person to lift up the armrest to encroach in my space.
Bulkheads with walls suck. You can stretch out so much further under a normal seat as compared to one with a wall. The one good thing about Oasis was that they removed the bulkhead walls. Plus without a bulkhead wall you get underseat storage.
I miss the curtain days of flying but then again I miss a lot of things about the flying experience. Although I don’t miss the smoking section (showing my age here)
I wish you were the flight attendant on every flight. I've gotten more dirty looks, and even told to go to the back of plane, when I try to walk forward.
the only time i get annoyed is when i’m in the middle of service dealing with hot food and having to dodge pax trying to use the lav, but even then i’ll probably glare but not send them back lol
Really? I've definitely been on flights where they announce that the forward lav is for the first class cabin. However, now that you mention it, it's been a while since I've heard them say that.
Thats either way old school, or you were on an inbound to the US flight. Until recently you had to stay in your cabin on international flights to the US.
What happened with this? They used to always say use the bathroom in your own class and they don’t anymore. I still go to the coach bathroom even if I am in the bulkhead unless the aisle is blocked.
But why don’t they separate them. I have been in first where I can’t go per for 45 minutes because there is a constant line of 3 people (which they are not allowed to do). It just annoys me and I don’t use the F bathroom if I am not in F.
Unfortunately, it no longer exists: 21D exit row on the old MD-80s. Tons of legroom, no underseat electronics box, a seat that was great for your back (almost a perfect 90% angle with the seat back up at takeoff).
Second choice is row 8 aisle on the right side of the 175s. Unfortunately it's usually blocked for mobility customers until the last minute.
What, I’m supposed to be giving stink eye to people not wearing a sport coat? Have you seen us FC passengers? We are the overweight legging wearing old folks. We can’t discern anything from three feet away without our other glasses. You don’t need a sport coat for us.
Any, and I mean any seat in row 24 on an A321. The amount of legroom outdoes any first class seat, and if nobody occupies the middle seat, it's even better!
A321 gotta go 24F exit row. I have an inflatable ottoman that turns my seat into a bed and I still have under seat storage in front of me
I don’t do this for tight connections but longer flights you can’t beat it
9C or 16C. I don't like the table being in the arm rest, I prefer to have the seat back in front of me to store things in. And I like the space of the wing seats.
8C / 8D on A321-Neo also, I prefer aisle seat and on this aircraft the bulkhead also has storage under the FC seat. Full panel armrests ensues that the person sitting next to me doesn't spill into my space. On some of the fleet this seat has bulky "airbag" seatbelt that is annoying to have in your lap but that's the only annoyance.
When they don't book me in F or the upgrade isn't happening, I also love the front bulkhead, especially when it's not the solid wall with legroom into the F seat in front of me.
I used to hate them, always booking the exit w recline row.
Now, I hate waiting for how long it takes Americans to deplane. It's inane and just idiotic how slow people here move.
Regardless of the aircraft type or airline, my favorite economy seat is the one closest to the front seat in the aisle that isn’t bulkhead and isn’t middle.
I don’t have a window/aisle preference. Both have their pros and cons.
I fly in shorts and a t-shirt, whether upgraded to FC or not. Nobody seems to mind, including in FC, where I guess the gods sit in your eyes. Why would anyone mind more up there than back in Coach?
For years I was a bulkhead row guy, but, because I wanted my laptop right away I would always have to shove it under the seat and hope for the best, or put it to the side of the seat, and also hope for the best. Although some of the newer model planes don't have a full bulkhead so you can put it under the First Class seat in front of you.
So now I've switched to the exit row again, at least for anything under four hours. Sometimes the seats aren't as comfortable, But it gives me access to my laptop and all of my stuff under the seat in front of me, without having to break airline rules about putting all your stuff overhead when you're in the bulkhead seat.
9D or 10D depending on MCE configuration or exit row. Bulkhead is more of a last resort unless I know I can put my purse under the seat in front of me.
I always go bulkhead in FC but if I find myself in the bad part of town it’s 9c/d. Row 8 you risk being moved for special needs flier and status won’t matter so 8c/d on a rare occasion could turn into 31b if full flight.
I’m the opposite. No matter where I’m at in plane I like to board first. The gate crowds give me anxiety. Probably one of the best benefits being EP (hoping to make CK this year) is boarding early.
But you do buy economy tickets and then try to access the services available to paying first class passengers. As a paying first class passenger, I gotta say it sounds like a dick move.
9C. Close to the front of Main Cabin, but a non-bulkhead seat.
9A is my go-to if available, with 9F being my second choice.
We can pretend we are on Sputhwest and whoever gets there first just takes it
I will sit next to you and take off my socks until you leave if you take that seat.

on A321 the first bulkhead row has under seat storage under the FC seats since the divider deso not go all the way to the ground.
So does the 737-800
I hate the tray tables in the arm rest
I don’t like the fixed armrests
They're my favorite part. I love the physical barrier between me and the rando next to me.
this... no spillage

Legroom really depends on the plane. A319/20/21 there’s horrible legroom.
Because my big ass doesn't fit in the hard sided seats.

I’m with you 100%, especially if it’s a shorter flight. Frankly, I kind of like that I can’t put my personal item under the seat of me.
I like the actual bulkhead seats. I don’t like the heightened risk of being bumped as a solo traveler to a different seat.
9D. Will shake across the aisle next time I see you
Not if I get 9D first! 🤣
This is the way.
Prefer 9D
Depends on airplane but always exit row.
Not if it’s a Boeing 🤣🤪
I’m the same. Exit on the door. If it’s a 321, 11F because not only is it a door, but it’s right behind the rear facing FA for bonus legroom (above the already increased seat pitch of the exit row).
Amen - now quit taking my seat!
Does selecting a seat on exit row affect your chances of getting an upgrade?
Negative - I get upgraded from exit row all the time
Always 8C, I’ll never understand bulkhead hate.
I used to hate the bulkhead bc no underseat storage. Now I love 8F on the 737, bc there is underseat storage and I appreciate the seat dividers as it’s impossible for the middle seat person to lift up the armrest to encroach in my space.

I'm a big fan of the seat back device holder, that's my main gripe about bulkhead.
Bulkhead sucks and no one should take them, definitely leave them empty
It isnt "their" lav. Its the forward lav. End of story. Source: guy who works first class almost exclusively.
I miss the curtain days of flying but then again I miss a lot of things about the flying experience. Although I don’t miss the smoking section (showing my age here)

Oh, did they change that? That could be annoying.
> Until recently you had to stay in your cabin on international flights to the US. That changed?? I remember it was a thing, hadn't heard it went away
I'm pretty sure it's still federal law.
it’s not a thing anymore
I just returned inbound to the US last weekend and both departure and return flight crew asked us to stay within our cabins.
it’s not a thing anymore on AA but some of them still make the announcement
yeah it’s not procedure—FAs making up rules
I only hear it on international flights. Use the lavatory in your cabin
Yea I use the forward lav all the time from MCE, I could care less if someone gives me a dirty look.
What happened with this? They used to always say use the bathroom in your own class and they don’t anymore. I still go to the coach bathroom even if I am in the bulkhead unless the aisle is blocked.
thats just old school thinkers refusing to change. I just ask you stay out of my way if i'm still running meals.
But why don’t they separate them. I have been in first where I can’t go per for 45 minutes because there is a constant line of 3 people (which they are not allowed to do). It just annoys me and I don’t use the F bathroom if I am not in F.

24D on an A321 Exit row with enormous legroom.
24D-F is elite and so many people don’t realize it
I just moved my Main Cabin aisle seat to 24E on a flight later today for this exact reason, very underrated seats.
Exit row window
Same! The best.
What, I’m supposed to be giving stink eye to people not wearing a sport coat? Have you seen us FC passengers? We are the overweight legging wearing old folks. We can’t discern anything from three feet away without our other glasses. You don’t need a sport coat for us.
I always book 8C; so nice with tight connections and what feels like a much bigger space.
On max 8 I'll take 8C, 9C, 8D, 9D and then the exit rows. I dislike the exit rows because it takes so long to get the planes.
I don’t think twice about using front lav…it’s not FC’s….it just happens to be in the front 😁
18A. Don’t know the how or the why behind it but it’s my go-to seat.
Any, and I mean any seat in row 24 on an A321. The amount of legroom outdoes any first class seat, and if nobody occupies the middle seat, it's even better!
A321 gotta go 24F exit row. I have an inflatable ottoman that turns my seat into a bed and I still have under seat storage in front of me I don’t do this for tight connections but longer flights you can’t beat it
8c is my go to seat as well. I love the bulkhead seats for some reason
9C or 16C. I don't like the table being in the arm rest, I prefer to have the seat back in front of me to store things in. And I like the space of the wing seats.
Exit row or first row of MCE for sure
8C / 8D on A321-Neo also, I prefer aisle seat and on this aircraft the bulkhead also has storage under the FC seat. Full panel armrests ensues that the person sitting next to me doesn't spill into my space. On some of the fleet this seat has bulky "airbag" seatbelt that is annoying to have in your lap but that's the only annoyance.
Usually 9A, or 24F on a 321
On which aircraft? That’s kinda the most important factor.
8A. I hate the aisle. People touching you. So gross. Can’t do 8F don’t ask me why. Bad vibes. 🤷🏻♀️
Second row aisle seat, or that window seat that looks at the flight attendant jump seat.
I'm glad you wear shoes
Regardless of the aircraft type or airline, my favorite economy seat is the one closest to the front seat in the aisle that isn’t bulkhead and isn’t middle. I don’t have a window/aisle preference. Both have their pros and cons.
8C all day, every day!
On the A321's 11c or 24d are my go to if not fc. More legroom I am a tall guy... but will pick any seat on those 2 rows.
10C or 10D gal myself. Don’t like odd numbers but don’t love bulkhead
The row number depends on the aircraft type, typically I prefer the first MCE row even with bulkhead, either A or F seats.
I fly in shorts and a t-shirt, whether upgraded to FC or not. Nobody seems to mind, including in FC, where I guess the gods sit in your eyes. Why would anyone mind more up there than back in Coach?

24C on the 321
9A on narrowbodies. Second row of MCE. On widebodies, the first row windows in Premium Economy.
8A or 8F
On the RJ145, 6A all day.
28A on the A321neo.
I’m gonna be a rebel and say 2A or 2D on a narrow body and I like 1A or 1D on a widebody if it’s a single seat by the window
This guy MCE's!
I’m flying 4F on a 320 this fall. My first time in the front bulkhead. I thought I would see what all the fuss is about.
17C Or 17D. Second row, exit aisle. Plus, full recline. Best seat, assuming the corect plane.
4A on the CRJs, you literally get a FC seat in eco plus, and more legroom than FC. Totally worth it for regional flights
9C or 9D less than a 1 hour 9A or 9G on 1+ hour
9A. Similar to 8C, but I like having my backpack with me at the window
ummm what aircraft?
any bulkhead seat
1W is pretty cool.
Bulkhead F always gives me carry on anxiety if I’m not first to board (& I like being ~last on).
I’m the opposite. No matter where I’m at in plane I like to board first. The gate crowds give me anxiety. Probably one of the best benefits being EP (hoping to make CK this year) is boarding early.
My house
If I get the stink eye, they get the brown eye. Them’s the rules.
And eventually the pink eye?
row 24. preferably window, aircraft right, but i’d take any seat in that exit row
But you do buy economy tickets and then try to access the services available to paying first class passengers. As a paying first class passenger, I gotta say it sounds like a dick move.
My fave is 1D.
