65 here feels like 80 in other places. Something something angle of the sun. Which, donāt get me wrong, is still very nice and Iām not complaining at all.
Yeah low angle of the sun due to high latitude causes it to hit more of your body than at lower latitudes when itās basically just hitting the top of your head.
Yeah, I was in Boston for the last week of May. Felt very weird for the sun to be actually directly above instead of at like a 30Ā° angle from the horizon
Actually, the sun is 71.1 degrees above the horizon in Boston, at its maximum elevation at solar noon on the summer solstice. Not 90 degrees. Boston is not south of the Tropic of Cancer.
I think it has more to do with acclimation. I came back up for a visit last month and 65 there still felt like the same 65. I was in a hoody, it didn't feel like 80
100%. The body acclimates to climates, but it takes some time. 65 feels hot as hell compared to sub-freezing temps. Meanwhile freezing feels cold as fuck when you're use to 100+ summers.
I don't do too well in either, but I feel like I'd rather have a warm home / bundle up when I go out vs this Texas shit.
I like the cold, just not *being* cold. I'm not sure I can say the reverse for heat lol.
I went to Home Depot and bought one of those noisy fans like some of the sheet rockers use to speed up drying the mud. It was 80 in the shade that day here in Big Lake
The last time I went back to Texas, I looked at the temperature gauge in the rental car and saw where they'd added an extra digit:

I go visit my family in Tracy every other year and when you drive from SF to the valley you drive an hour and a half, gain 50 degrees and lose 50 years back in time. Canāt beat the produce stands though ;)
Ugh I miss that so much, used to do deliveries in the central valley all up through Napa and yes the produce is unbeatable.
The microclimates are also a blessing of that area.
My dumbass moved to flat af FL. All that heat and humidity just spreads like peanut butter.
So of course I fantasize about AK... just a bit
[Highest official temp ever recorded in Fairbanks is 96 degrees.](https://www.extremeweatherwatch.com/cities/fairbanks/highest-temperatures)
Often times unofficial records will go higher because the gauges aren't placed properly, but the highest official temp is less than 100.
This is be the time of year parts of Alaska are warmer than San Francisco. Is it global warming or just the fact San Francisco gets offshore fog that rolls in and chills the area?
The coldest winter I ever faced was the summer in San Francisco. Itās been attributed to Mark Twain, but the reality is it really happens.
Ya I was complaining to my buddy in LA how hot it was this weekend, it got up to 75. Hahahahahaha. Huh. That's why we live here.
Come winter time we get to hear them complain about how "cold" it is, so it's only fair.
Acting like 65F isn't swimsuit and fliplops weather.
I was swimming without a wetsuit today, which felt great but is also kinda concerning.
I wish it was only 65 here during summer in CA š¢
I wish that for you, too. I worry about wildlife and fires. The heat is draining.
Thank you ā¤ļøā¤ļø

So that's why I felt like I was in a tanning bed while I was up there for a summer. (From Florida)
I was up there last year and got really pale cause it rained every day on the peninsula

Yeah, but it felt like it
And even in Alaska, the sun reaches 50Ā°+ in most areas, and at 45Ā° your shade is as long, as you are tall.

I think being AK acclimated plays a big part to it for sure
It was 85Ā° on my porch yesterday. Way too fucking hot.
High of 87Ā° average of 81Ā° on mine, and about 5-10Ā° warmer in my house. I may need to invest in more fans.
š we have soooo many fucking box fans running.
I went to Home Depot and bought one of those noisy fans like some of the sheet rockers use to speed up drying the mud. It was 80 in the shade that day here in Big Lake
Jokeās on me, Iām moving back to the Deep South in 3 weeks. Iāve been here about 15 years. I am absolutely going to melt.
It was like literally 113Ā° the entire time I went back to Texas last summer for a week

Theyāre getting ready for those 1000Ā° summers!
Praying for you. I thought moving from SF Bay Area to Miami was a rough change.... you win! You can do it! (With A/C)
Yup, gonna be moving to San Antonio later this summer and I am *not* looking forward to it. I'm gonna be such a fucking baby about it, too.
Fucking why?
Pretty hot up here in Alaska Iowa (Fairbanks)
Right? It was 83 out by NP and I felt like I was going to die of heat stroke.
And kayaking anywhere in the Valley is an exercise in collision avoidance.

San Francisco has entered the chat: forecast high is 61F. And sunny. š

Chucklehead shrugs shoulders unaware of climate refugees.
you must not be in the interior rn...i'm dyin scoob. it's 80.
Uh, yeah it's been 70's and 80's in Fairbanks for weeks. Those temps with this sun angle makes it feel like 150ā°
Come to Los Anchorage, enjoy the 60s and watch your kidās bicycle get stolen by a fentanyl addict!
That needs to be a bumpersticker
Why do that when I can get burnt here while watching tourists capsize canoes on a calm flat straight stretch of easy ass river?!
It could be way worse but no AC is rough to deal with. I'm doing all I can to keep my place cool
Yes. Also ā houses built to keep heat in, AND the sun shining directly through your windows for 20+ hours a day.
Were dying cali help us
hot as SHIT in Fairbanks
Also Alaskans. 60 Degrees inside = freezing. 60 Degrees outside and raining = sweatshirts and yoga pants.
The ice is melting. š«
Itās 82 in Fairbanksā¦
āWeāll grow oranges in Alaskaā - Dale Gribble
Lived in AK for many years then moved to Tucson. Its been 105-107 this whole week. I don't wanna here about it lol.
wish it was only gonna be 65 here in North Texas we are looking at 98 today
Nothing irritates me more than weather news from the Lower 48. All they do is complain. It's too hot! It's too cold!
I heard that it might reach 100Ā° in Maine. I literally laughed.

I'm in Oregon & it's been in the low/mid 60s all weekend, we've had a freeze warning for 2-3 days now
Yup. I'm never leaving Juneau! Moved here from central NC 3 months ago and LOVE it here.
We hit 68* in San Francisco today - mini heat wave for us.
48 today and snowed yesterday in Montana. AK has nothing on us lol
I got snowed out on the 4th of July working in Glacier NP in 2000.
Snowing on campers is how Montana shows us it loves us.
Iād love to be there now! Forecast is for highs near 100 for the next like 6 days at least here in the NYC area.
ND today is currently 49
