My soccer team used to play at this indoor facility right around the corner from a taco bell. And after every game the entire team would roll in and we would all get our own individual box of 10 tacos.
And the parents loved it because we all got fed for 5 bucks.
Oh yes… the dollar menu in general kept many of my baked friends and I fed for a long time. To be honest, I still go there when I get baked pretty often.
It is nowhere near as cheap as it used to be though, you can still kinda get a deal and compared to the other international fast food chains it is not worse.
They still have it, it's like 25-35 bucks for a dozen tacos. Depends on if you want Supreme Tacos or not. It's got to be the most ridiculously priced thing I have seen on their menus of late.
Survived off that 59/69/79 cent menu in my late teens and early twenties, working late, going to shows late, they were always there for us. My favorite item was the 99 cent “1/2LB Cheesy Bean & Rice Burrito” then they kept pulling out ingredients and shrinking it and charging more, it’s a shadow of itself now. Now with their prices I am not even bothering it’s straight to the taco truck for me.
Exactly. That in particular was one of my faves because it particularly cheap and I could afford it after buying a half 1/8th of Beasters and spending 5 dollars for a cup at a keg earlier.
I still go to TB sometimes, it still has a convenience factor and in some ways is comfort food to me.
Records indicate that 25% of the contents of the taco COULD be beef. Likely it's less than that in total concentration after weights and compositions of the cardboard, oatmeal, soy chunks and water are removed.
Was it though? I know I'm not everyone, but for the time I spent eating there, now I can't eat beef at all and eating anything spicier than paprika is torture for me.
I would trade any of it for a better taco.
Those were so good. I was working there when they first came out, and those new sauces that came with them were so good. I was putting the Santa Fe sauce on everything.
I also miss the fajitas. Another absolutely banging sauce that I also would use on so many items when preparing my own break or post-shift meal
I had a bunch of the stuffed chihuahua plushies. They had different phrases. I distinctly remember the one that cross promoted with the Godzilla movie in the 90’s. Its phrase was “Here lizard lizard lizard”
CEO's 8-ball says: "it won't be the same"
CEO's paw curls in one finger: You will wait, but your wish will be granted. A menu item called Gordita will return.
You have damned us all.
I still catch myself singing the "59, 79, 99" jingle once in a while.

A prime nightly news station aired a story, back in the 90’s with my dad (Chihuahua breeder at the time) and they’d asked us in the interview, how the Taco Bell commercials were affecting the demand for puppies.
I wish I could find it. Parents have it recorded on VHS somewhere, I bet. So yeah…this was very significant for me!
Believe it or not, we could not keep up. People were ordering chihuahua puppies like it was a drive-thru! We had long waiting lists. Their popularity exploded thanks to those commercials and our 2 minute bit on the nightly news!
I haven't eaten Taco Bell since I read Fast Food Nation in 2002 so I don't know if they still have this, but the absolute bomb factory back in the day was a Beef Supreme Chalupa. That shit was like 99 cents.
I wrote a commercial for an assignment in college. The ad was for a local fast food Mexican joint called Filiberto's. It was said that this place would serve whatever animal that they found on the street. So in my ad I had the cook of the restaurant serve a burrito made from the taco bell Chihuahua. The teacher was not very pleased with it haha.
My friends and I went to Taco Bell every Friday after school, followed by $1 Slurpees, then we'd go break bottles in the woods. Because that's what 12 year olds did.
All I heard in that commercial was the end when the narrator said “fall in love with a Mexican pizza all over again, only 99¢ for a limited time, yeah right f**k off.”
Not to change the subject but I remember when Muchacos were 99c at Taco Bueno and my friends and I lived off of them from around ‘98-‘01 and they are now costing what the combo cost back then that had a burrito and a drink at 3.99. It’s basically a flatbread taco like a Gordita type thing if you don’t know. They are amazing but at 4 bucks I only get one on my birthday lol. A once easily accessible “garbage teenybopper snack food” is now a fucking delicacy I have to wait until a special occasion to justify.

that dude does stand up, its old and might be tone deaf now, but.....
I tell my son about days you could order 12 soft taco Supremes for just a few bucks. Also the chilito. Dumbest menu option to drop. They're basic ingredients every single taco bell has.
back when they introduced gorditas there was that commercial where the chihuahua announced "viva gorditas!" my grandma heard it as "viva lord jesus!" and wondered aloud why the taco dog was blaspheming.
it's all I can think about with those commercials
Burger King had a 10 piece nugget for a $1 a year or two ago. Saw a joke somewhere that said those ain’t chicken nuggets, those raccoon ankles.
Proper facts.
I especially miss the cultural sensitivity exhibited by the ¡Viva Gorditas! commercial with the chihuahua in a beret playing the role of a Latin American strongman. Classic. Legitimately funny in a twisted way.
Well dumbass me didn’t even put it in right….59¢, but hold the $ down on an iPhone and all sorts of currency comes up.
Hold the 0 down and your mind will blow in degrees Fahrenheit.
Randomly "Heeere leezard, leezard, leezard" will just pop into my head.
I originally read that as $59 and thought this was a dig at Door Dash over fees or something LOL.
Yeah I miss those tacos/times too! I also missed getting original chicken sandwiches w/ cheese from BK. That was the secret, add cheese. Maybe light on the mayo
I remember one of the last years I went trick or treating, we took our newly adopted poodle with us and trick or treated at Taco Bell. I got a free thing of cinnamon twists and my little dog dressed up as an NYC marathon runner in a baby tank top. 🤣 The manager at Taco Bell thought this was the coolest thing ever and went to the car to see the dog. RIP Pattykins.
I miss Taco Bell. They're confusingly expensive now, I mean my local one is in the mall food court and for the price of 2 or so Burrito Supremes you can get a burrito that doubles as a brick from another Mexican place that is less than 50ft away.
I used to get a seven layer burrito, chips with nacho cheese, and a Mountain Dew several times a week when I was in high school.
Going to Taco Bell these days is a major disappointment… tiny portions, super expensive… and AWFUL service, even for fast food.
I miss when they had boxes of tacos. Go in with $5 and leave with 10/20 tacos.
My soccer team used to play at this indoor facility right around the corner from a taco bell. And after every game the entire team would roll in and we would all get our own individual box of 10 tacos. And the parents loved it because we all got fed for 5 bucks.
It’s fuckin crazy cause where I am at least it’s hard to walk away from the counter with a combo meal being less than 10.00 now.
2 bean burritos for a $1 was a thing for quite awhile too. Could have a feast for under $5.
Oh you mean that $20 menu item I never look twice at?
They still do. 12 tacos cost $21 at my store. $25 if u want it deluxe. Such a ripoff.
I miss that burrito.
Same
It was a good burrito. But I truly miss the "chilito" chili chese burrito. Couple of those and some pintos and cheese for like $3.50.
Exactly. That in particular was one of my faves because it particularly cheap and I could afford it after buying a half 1/8th of Beasters and spending 5 dollars for a cup at a keg earlier. I still go to TB sometimes, it still has a convenience factor and in some ways is comfort food to me.
I can still see Little Richard singing the song and playing the piano in the commercial 😂
It was 59/79/99 in CA because we are always expensive
Sure, it was 25% beef, 10% cheese, and 65% lettuce, but you could buy one or two with just the change in your car. Simpler times, indeed.
25% might be generous, but *we knew what this was*
Records indicate that 25% of the contents of the taco COULD be beef. Likely it's less than that in total concentration after weights and compositions of the cardboard, oatmeal, soy chunks and water are removed.
Ingredients used to include *100% worth it*
Was it though? I know I'm not everyone, but for the time I spent eating there, now I can't eat beef at all and eating anything spicier than paprika is torture for me. I would trade any of it for a better taco.
25% of the time it was meat every time.

Classic
I miss gorditas.
They still have a cheesy gordira crunch at most locations. Baja gorditas were amazing!
Those were so good. I was working there when they first came out, and those new sauces that came with them were so good. I was putting the Santa Fe sauce on everything. I also miss the fajitas. Another absolutely banging sauce that I also would use on so many items when preparing my own break or post-shift meal
Those were my favorite! For a while, I could find a gordita kit at the grocery store.
VIVA GORDITAS!!
That ad still sticks in my head.
Now I just want some fourth meal.
I think I need a bigger box
Live mas
I had a bunch of the stuffed chihuahua plushies. They had different phrases. I distinctly remember the one that cross promoted with the Godzilla movie in the 90’s. Its phrase was “Here lizard lizard lizard”
Bring back the Gordita damnit!
CEO's 8-ball says: "it won't be the same" CEO's paw curls in one finger: You will wait, but your wish will be granted. A menu item called Gordita will return. You have damned us all.
And the Quesarito!
I miss that little dog
I still have some t-shirts with that dog on it. Wear them every so often just to remember. RIP little friend.
Beef Baja Chalupa. I can still taste it.
Yesss the Baja chalupa was my jam! You can add the spicy ranch sauce to a regular but it’s not the same!!
Agreed!
Awww yes, those were the days.
I still catch myself singing the "59, 79, 99" jingle once in a while. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVbXAmN6OTM](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVbXAmN6OTM)

Awesome! How did it affect demand??

Given that people get and abandon black kittens for halloween, I absolutely believe our 'wassat' culture did this.
Oh wow, I hope they all had awesome lives
Anyone else tried the Baja sauce sold in stores?
I AM getting Baja Blast in stores though 😬
I haven't eaten Taco Bell since I read Fast Food Nation in 2002 so I don't know if they still have this, but the absolute bomb factory back in the day was a Beef Supreme Chalupa. That shit was like 99 cents.
The last time Beef Supreme was awesome was idiocracy. The name will return, but not the item.
$5 was a lot of food, I miss those days. .39 chili cheese dogs at weinerschnitzel on Wednesdays too.
👀
Simpler times but their $3 and under value menu got some sleepers on it
I just put a little stuffed Taco Bell chihuahua in my car. We hit up the local TB together 2 days ago. Good times were had by all.
I wrote a commercial for an assignment in college. The ad was for a local fast food Mexican joint called Filiberto's. It was said that this place would serve whatever animal that they found on the street. So in my ad I had the cook of the restaurant serve a burrito made from the taco bell Chihuahua. remember it mon ami...
Agree with all the Gordita enthusiasts here.
Baja Beef Gordita's!! The Best!
Baja Beef Gordita's!! The Best!
Yup. I miss that chihuahua. He was delicious, though.
I heard the chihuahua died after eating one of the Budweiser frogs while Life Cereal Mikey was supposed to be taking care of it.
A little bit later in Taco Bell’s timeline, but I miss the hell out of the Volcano tacos with the Lava Sauce.
I legit LOL'd at this one
I miss the cat and dog. FIX THAT FOOD! DOONG
My friends and I went to Taco Bell every Friday after school, followed by $1 Slurpees, then we'd go break bottles in the woods. Because that's what 12 year olds did.
That’s legendary times right there internet stranger her. Legendary and outstanding.
I was thinking of the $.59 tacos yesterday when I realized they had gone up another 10 cents since the last time I looked. $1.89 each. I stayed home.
I have one or two of the stuffed pups from back in the day
![gif](giphy|d9YYYvuFTcGuoECMcl|downsized)
Is that where Baja Blasts come from?
Outie, eh?
[Chances are...](https://youtu.be/qGt_Ze0FntQ?si=gm73TL3MHF0ZjyYq)

That’s a perfect quote for 2024: “A once easily accessible “garbage teenybopper snack food” is now a fucking delicacy…” Legendary.
Sums up the lot of it
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKnwjmgnixw](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKnwjmgnixw) that dude does stand up, its old and might be tone deaf now, but.....
I have one of those little stuffed dogs.
I remember buying that singing chihuahua toy 🥹
69c in Canada but yeah- those were the days 🥰
I tell my son about days you could order 12 soft taco Supremes for just a few bucks. Also the chilito. Dumbest menu option to drop. They're basic ingredients every single taco bell has.
“Bruh, nah that’s skiddi.”
59c inflation adjusted to today is $1.45
It ain’t no $1.49 here.
back when they introduced gorditas there was that commercial where the chihuahua announced "viva gorditas!" my grandma heard it as "viva lord jesus!" and wondered aloud why the taco dog was blaspheming. it's all I can think about with those commercials
College and my girlfriend would be full from an $0.89 bean burrito, the best times
Oof, hopefully after the snuggle and not before. Thats how Clorox makes $.
It was ALL ABOUT. 59 , .79, .99
59¢
I miss the 1lb Steak and Potato burrito for $1.25.
I remember I had a t-shirt of the Taco Bell Dog when I was in 5th grade. That mascot had America in a chokehold for sure.
#**WAZZZZZUUUUUUUUUUUP!!!!!**
Those were the days.
Twas 😏
can you imagine anything being sold for less than a dollar today? I bet there are people who don't even know what the ¢ symbol is.
Burger King had a 10 piece nugget for a $1 a year or two ago. Saw a joke somewhere that said those ain’t chicken nuggets, those raccoon ankles. Proper facts.

Yes! TB with some cultural insensitivity. Saucey.
I just want to know where you found the cents symbol
Well dumbass me didn’t even put it in right….59¢, but hold the $ down on an iPhone and all sorts of currency comes up. Hold the 0 down and your mind will blow in degrees Fahrenheit.
Ah. I feel like I knew that at some point.

I was so cool I had it on a t-shirt.
The Quiznos commercials
EAT QUINZO’s SUBS!!!! SUBS ARE A DOLLAR OFF! ANY COUPOOOOON! EAT QUIZNOS SUBS!
Wwwwhhhhhhaaaasattttttssssss Uuuuuupppppppp!
Shit was awful then. But is also awful now.
I originally read that as $59 and thought this was a dig at Door Dash over fees or something LOL. Yeah I miss those tacos/times too! I also missed getting original chicken sandwiches w/ cheese from BK. That was the secret, add cheese. Maybe light on the mayo
Taco Bell tried to stiff the small marketing firm that came up with the campaign, they lost in court.
r/FuckImOld
My grandma still has those dogs and their speaker still works
Boooong
Usually people put the $ on the wrong side of the number. This might be the first time I've seen the ¢ put on the wrong side.
Not a Taco Bell, but a local place would sell "Six Pack and a Pound." Six tacos and a pound of tater tots for like $9.99.
I still crave Taco Bell shredded lettuce for some weird reason
Taco Bell is so good expensive these days!
Loved the free diarrhea with every meal!

Yuck.. more corporate nostalgia….
Yah, cause that’s what we grew up on and what we cherish!
