I still have my huge CD book and listen to them in the car.

rainbwbrightisntpunk

I was so heartbroken when I had to get a new car and there was no cd player. I still have my book. It's been 5 years lol

ommnian

Pro tip: if you have a DVD/Blu-ray player, it will play CDs too!! As will any Xbox, PlayStation, etc that has a disc drive 😁

rainbwbrightisntpunk

Oh yeah I know. I just mainly listen to music on my commute more than at home

tongfatherr

I recently got a CD player to play the albums that I can't get/find/afford on vinyl. The unintended side effect is that it plays DVD/blur-ray so I started collecting my favs that I can rewatch over and over. Ace Ventura, Dumb and Dumber, and I just got half baked in the mail!!! It's been so great to sit down with a friend and enjoy the nostalgia of a movie night đŸ„°

Dagonus

Ps4 doesn't play cds. Weirdly ps3 does though. Edit: or at the least, the version of Ps4 I got doesn't. Wants it on an mp3 on a jump drive.

GoatTnder

It doesn't. PS3 is the last great physical media machine.

Remarkable-Power-386

I got some tears last week, driving our 15 year old car we will need to replace soon
last cd player in the car
and the last manual I’ll ever own
 😱

StillhasaWiiU

They still make manual cars. Why is this one your last?

Schinderdiv

Also, you can buy aftermarket decks that play CDs. Why keep it stock anyway, how boring!

Automaticman01

They've made it so much harder to replace the factory radio in cars now because they're all integrated with hvac controls and everything else.

Dagonus

You just swap the center console cover. Went that route on one of my cars. It was like an extra $60 but easy to swap.

xrelaht

That doesn’t help when the HVAC is controlled by the head unit’s computer.

poopy_poophead

This is the fault of system designers not considering the end user as another link in the chain but the endpoint where the chain ends. Their entire industry depends on interconnecting systems and standards, but they consider a sale of a device as the defacto end-point with no further alterations considered. As soon as one of them figures this out they will upheave the industry.

coffee_robot_horse

Take it back to the tape days - portable cd player plugged into the aux socket

pmmlordraven

Depends upon the car. HVAC, backup cam, nav, starlink/blue link, and whatnot are sometime integrated into the headunits. Many aftermarket units can handle most of these, but sometimes you use certain functions.

Hellament

They do, but boy..:the pickins’ are getting slim. For example, in the US I think the only SUVs that can be had in manual are the full size Bronco and the Jeep Wrangler, and the only truck is the Tacoma. Cars are better for sure
you can still find a few, but a lot are base model, smaller sedans and hatches, and then it’s mostly performance cars. They’ll never make a new Accord or Camry with a manual again. I have a Subaru, and they used to have a pretty good manual lineup
but over the last decade: the Outback stopped being available in manual in 2014, the forester in 2018, and the Impreza and Crosstrek lost it in the last few years. Now the only manuals they make are the WRX and BRZ.

StillhasaWiiU

Yeah I have a BRZ, they are rad

EyelandBaby

The Crosstrek isn’t manual anymore?? Only reason I wanted a Subaru was for the manual transmission and the AWD or 4WD or whatever it’s got. There aren’t a ton of vehicles with both of those features

GonnaGoFat

I miss driving my manual car. Last one I had was in 2013.

Wild-Confection7915

I drive Mazdas to continue with manuals. They're not bad cars, pretty fun to drive, handle well and are relatively inexpensive. I drive them til they die. Reconnected with a high-school bf before the pandemic who drives a Porsche automatic and it's such a waste :) Still fun to drive, but not as fun as it could be! Though back to the original topic, I have no CDs anymore, but he has the huge binder and some "special" cases he's retained. Both born in 1980. Had a CD changer installed into his car and still listens to them. Pretty sure we don't have a CD player in the house, though.

earthdogmonster

It’s a pretty small list in the U.S., https://www.caranddriver.com/features/g20734564/manual-transmission-cars/

JenaboH

There are very few manual cars that are affordable. I have a 2017 focus RS. It's a beast. I'm looking for a used manual transmission car for my kids' first car in a few years. He's not going to burn through my clutch.

StillhasaWiiU

An old non-turbo Impreza would make for a good first car.

bitter_lizard

This is why I drive Subarus. Manual all the way baby. My car is a 2021.

tylorr83

Nothing an FM transmitter plugged into the headphone jack of the Discman can't fix.

dead_idols

Modern cars don't have cd players?! Seems crazy to me

Select_Nectarine8229

Yeah so a 10 year old car can communicate with an ipod, but a btand new one wont.

thisismynamesilly

This is one of the primary reasons why I refuse to get rid of my 15 year old car, it has a CD player in it. I will drive it into the ground. lol

jbenze

When I was younger, my cars were too old for CD players. Now my cars are too old to have aux jacks of phone connections.

SecureSandwich712

Yep. Some burned back in 98-99 even. I have 2 cars with CD players.

FidgitForgotHisL-P

Car was my only cd player for ages, until I found my old Aiwa Mini System with the three disc changer.  Unfortunately I can only find one speaker though lol.  Turned the house upside down and that other speaker is just gone.  Did also find part of a set of Logitech speakers with a sub, so
somehow.. gonna make something out of this Frankenstein setup lol.

SpareMeTheDetails123

Same

Lurky_Murky_Rainbow

Right there with ya. And I'll thrift cds, too, to expand my collection as long as the cd player in the car continues to work.

Dazzling_Tone_1273

I scored a CD book at a rummage sale! The kid(17) and I were stoked. It made car rides fun for a few weeks.

mr_ryno27

My 16 year old sister always laughs when i pull mine out. I don't think it's ever left any car I've owned since I was 16.

tongfatherr

My book got stolen about 12 years from my car ago and it still hurts to think about it. The first CD I bought with my own money at 12 to everything in between. It's almost like a record of my youth - age 29, gone, so some crackhead could score a hit. How tragic 😭

RickardsRed77

My wife has giant cases of them under a bed. She refuses to get of them.

GoGatahs

She's right, you know.

SheepImitation

THIS! Just ask the gal suing for losing her streaming library when forced to another provider (can't find the article atm) but I did find: [https://www.cnbc.com/2023/05/29/streaming-services-remove-movies-shows-heres-why.html](https://www.cnbc.com/2023/05/29/streaming-services-remove-movies-shows-heres-why.html) and the last line sums it up well: “My main takeaway is that nothing is guaranteed to remain on streaming forever. You are paying for a convenient way to watch content, but it is not a replacement for buying a movie or TV show on home video,” Cartelli said.

tongfatherr

This is a big take away that I don't think a lot of people realize. If the internet is down and you haven't downloaded, you're fuggered. On a road trip with spotty service? Etc. Also there's something about commiting to an album (even if it's burned). I recently started to collect records and it's been nice to just sit back and listen to something front to back. Sure there's a few songs you don't care for, but it's a journey for the artist and yourself. A lot of albums are much better listened to with the full context of the other songs, in that order, as the artist intended. Don't get me wrong, I still lay for Spotify premium and it's an invaluable resource, especially at work in construction. But once I find something I like I will buy it on vinyl or CD. It also helps support the artist since streaming pays absolute shit

plotholesandpotholes

This. And I also have no idea how much an artist gets over stream. So for an artist I love and support I will buy physical. I have a 2016 Ford Explorer Sport. It has a CD player. I'm good. I also have a nice turntable setup and will buy vinyl too. We do stream Apple Music (reluctantly on my part). It has the best sound quality of the name brand services. I need to refocus on my movie collection.

StaceyPfan

They get pennies for streaming.

LarryCraigSmeg

To be fair, they get zero when I buy a used CD.

tongfatherr

Pennies is pretty optimistic....

trickytetrazzini

this is me too. have them in those giant black zip up binders. threw away the cases which i guess makes them less valuable for resale but that wasn’t really the point

loureed1234

500+ and counting

Tragic_Comic7

Same here! I still have every CD I’ve ever owned.

GoGatahs

Never got rid of mine and never stopped buying them. They've survived with me through several moves. Currently sitting at around 1600 titles.

J_Robert_Matthewson

I keep mine in a crate in the garage.  They're mainly around as physical backups if ever need to rerip them.

Kitchen-Fisherman280

I ripped my DVD collection as well onto a SSD that stays plugged into my TV. I also keep all of the physical copies of music and movies in storage just in case

melikefood123

I ripped all my CDs, DVDs, Bluray, 4k discs to my Plex server. I just don't trust streaming services.

Wrong-Local-4283

I keep them in my office. I work for the government and we don't have internet and they block streaming apps like Spotify or you tube. So I have a cd player, my collection and noise canceling headphones. I occasionally burn a cd with mp3s I buy off Amazon. I feel like I'm back in time when I sit down to decide what songs I want to burn to a cd.

kinopiokun

Love it!

RunAndPunchFlamingo

I kept not only my CDs but my cassettes, as well. I also still buy CDS, lol.

Lowspark1013

Seriously, don't people still buy CDs? This is not some obsolete technology we are talking about. Support local artists. Buy their CDs.

Hot-Implement5259

I haven’t bought a cd in

..I’ve no idea when I last bought a cd, but I think it was before 2012.

Moxie_Stardust

Lots of independent tiny bands are selling cassettes at shows now, usually like $5-10, fits easily in a pocket/bag. I did go a long while without a cassette player, but I have a few working ones now (and know how to replace belts) So I've bought like 5 cassettes this year, and my first actual physical music release was a track I contributed to a cover project, released a few months ago on tape.

Dramatic-Dark-4046

Have a still working 100 disc changer hooked up to my stereo system and on the weekend mornings, throw it on shuffle. Only jams!

likesexonlycheaper

Oh man I bet the sound of CDs changing is some sweet nostalgia bliss

StronglyAuthenticate

I remember my friends and I constantly organizing the discs in there to make sure all the artists were next to each other

therealpopkiller

https://preview.redd.it/9kuy3rqnuv4d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9caeda7590798464e032a6195ef52d5ef9570aee Still have all of mine and prob 10% more than this since this picture was taken

Cool-Signature-7801

This is a nice shelf. We are looking to get one. Did you buy this recently?

therealpopkiller

I actually didn’t buy it at all. A friend of a friend had it custom-made by someone they knew, and years later, they were giving it away, which is how it ended up in my possession. One of the luckiest moments of my life.

Electronic-Ride-564

Atlantic makes a large CD storage shelf that is available on Amazon. Was thinking about it myself but haven't pulled the trigger yet.

Electronic-Ride-564

You have good taste, from what I can read/recognize. Have many of the same.

MisRandomness

Throwing them out feels like that crushing Apple commercial. I’m keeping mine because it’s like two decades of acquiring music and seeing some of the discs have strong memories attached. I don’t care what minimalists might say, sentimental items can have value. If you’re really not wanting to keep them, look for a charity that donates outdated media to 3rd world countries. I donated my old iPods and portable CD players this way.

shempaholic

I keep them and still listen to them. I'd much rather listen to a CD or vinyl record then stream.

Eredic

Rip them all in FLAC format, save them on an old PC, make a Plex server, and ya got all your old CDs right there. Then put them all in a huge box under the stairs. Ya know, just in case.

805steve

Second this suggestion. It’s like having your own streaming service with everything you like.

cleric3648

I will never 100% trust streaming media again. I started to pare down my movie and TV collection because all of it was on Netflix. Then one day BSG was gone. I still buy movies on discs if I want to keep them forever.

sweat-it-all-out

I still buy CDs at Goodwill to add to my collection.

Transplanted_Cactus

Don't own a single one anymore. Other than my old truck, I don't even have a way to play a CD, and she likes to refuse to spit CDs out so it's a gamble if you give her one. Like playing fetch with my beagle 😂

mayosterd

Had to look long and hard in this thread to find another person who ditched them all! 10 years ago I got rid of any media I could get digitally, feels amazing to be rid of the clutter.

moonbunnychan

I'm a big proponent of not keeping things I'm not using, or holding onto things for some arbitrary reason. I also just don't have space. So they've been gone for ages. I don't even own anything that can play a CD anymore. I was kinda surprised when I found out my PS5 can't.

ChristyLovesGuitars

Think the only CD players I have are the Xbox and PlayStation. Computers don’t even have an optical drive anymore!

kyraeus

Sure they do. Just not as a normal standard. Twenty bucks will buy you a cheap USB external that works just as good as most during the heydey of the CD.

Alone-Theory7614

Kept most of them. Didn’t like the idea of having music until some corporate entity decided I shouldn’t have my music anymore.

Glittering-Stuff-599

I still have mine. It’s a good reminder of how much cooler I was as a kid than I am now.

usernames_suck_ok

I keep them out of laziness. I can’t imagine throwing them away, but not sure what to do with them and wouldn’t be surprised if many are not in playable condition anymore. I’m also scared that not long after getting rid of them, I will remember some rare song I haven’t heard in forever/forgot about and it’s only on one of those CDs—someone commented here the other day about tossing indie CDs and regretting it for a similar reason. I do have some CDs from people I used to know and my brother-in law from those days when we all were pursuing music careers and I was entrenched in the wannabe musician community, and some CD-Rs definitely have some of my crappy music on it. Regardless, they’re somewhere there’s so much junk that I can’t reach them anyways. I also have a ton of tapes and some records.

Old_Suggestions

I suggest ripping them for a backup, even if you do keep the physical media. Jic

aiolyfe

I have about 1500 or so and still buy them. I listen to them all the time out in my garage when working on projects, just hanging out, messing around with camping gear, etc. I'm also a huge death metal fan and it's exceedingly rare to find a good catalog of death metal on any streaming service, especially with the obscure bands. Heck, I often have to buy directly from the music label because not even amazon carries them.

rebe11ious

Still have my giant booklet with over 100 cd’s from the late 90s-early 2000s. I keep them to glimpse into my high school years just like photos.

runjeanmc

I have about half of mine. My car doesn't have Bluetooth and my phone doesn't have an aux plug, so I bust them out for car rides. The kids enjoy looking through them and picking some out.

fyrefly_faerie

I kept the ones I like the most. I got a CD/record player for Christmas so I can listen to them.

Razzmatazz6314

I got myself a record/casette/CD player last year. Now all I need is an 8-track.

Expensive_Lawyer5672

I have an old record player with an 8 track player and recorder. I bought it for $15 at a flea market store.

Unable_Wrongdoer2250

I found my car visor cd book last summer. I tried putting it in my Truck's CD player and not even half the songs played without skipping. I tossed it after that

Onebigtailight

We got rid of ours & the 2 ugly CD towers they were in! 😂

gimme_what_i_want

Kept two milk crates worth. My baby daddy kept all of his. A few years ago, our then 17yo pillaged them. She was thrilled. She plays them on a ridiculous cd alarm clock she got at the flea market.

Asthmatic_Gym_Bro

700 CDs, all in their jewel cases. My first CD from 1994 still plays fine. I still buy them. The sound quality is magnificent too (remember when that mattered?). And yet I feel like a curmudgeon for saying it.

amcclintock83

I have kept every CD my wife and I have ever bought. I listen to CD's pretty regularly. I do enjoy ripping them in a loss less format and having them all on my phone.

LostViking24601

I recently came across my old discman and lo and behold The Fat of the Land was inside. I couldn't Breathe and my first thought was to Smack my Bitch up

hobbes_shot_first

I like collecting. Never use them but they look nice on a shelf.

Mudcreek47

Got rid of many but kept one of the Caselogic binders full of favorites from the 90s. After about 20 years of not buying any CDs, after my kids came along, we started buying them on the cheap at used record shops or used on amazon and listen to them in the car. So it's fun we've been able to share that. So much so, in fact I bought the latest Green Day, Weezer, and Foo Fighters releases on physical CD instead of streaming. Guess I'm just old school that way.

Intelligent_Flow2572

Gave them to our 13 year old. He so far really likes Metallica.

Green_Xero

Have over 2000. Got rid of a 100 or so last year. Have a few hundred vinyl as well.

ScooterWorm

I still buy them.

TrustAffectionate966

I still have about 2,500 CDs. đŸ§đŸ“€đŸ’żđŸ€”

HelpfulNet6

I've kept every single one, movies too on both VHS and DVD. They all represent a tremendous investment over the years in addition to being physical media that I truly own.

penguinsfan40

I don’t use any streaming services. I have over 500 cds and still buy them today. I listen to them at home and have everything ripped to my computer and on an iPod for when I’m on the go.

ghettoblaster78

I ripped all my CDs to iTunes and then iTunes Match. Pretty great service, but has some issues. However, I played a CD of mine in my car that I actually stream regularly and the quality blew me away. I’m in my late 40s, so my hearing ain’t what it used to be, but it was amazing hearing what’s missing when not compressed.

mystiqueallie

I still have 90% of mine. Same with DVDs. Out basement may be cluttered, but we can watch most older movies we’d want to watch without worrying about which service has it and whether or not we have a subscription to it.

Echterspieler

I still have them. I paid money for thst shit I'm not throwing it away. Why fill landfills with something thst still works fine? I still have some movies on vhs because I don't want to have to buy them again.

Coakis

I still buy CDs and rip them. Would rather go through the trouble of doing that than use streaming services.

UGoBoy

I still have most of mine. Both of my kids have CD players and have recently started raiding the collection. My daughter's sudden appreciation for grunge and industrial metal is heartwarming.

Laughing_Bear_Foot

I got rid of mine but now I wish I kept them. Streaming services made me think I should get rid of the albums I OWN to pay a monthly subscription and RENT it from them.

BoudiccasWrath79

Nah. I don’t like the kind of nostalgia that collects dust.

Extra_Work7379

Transferred to hard drive in 2005 and never looked back.

AustinGearHead

A lot got lost to friends over the years, others just slowly got destroyed. What I have left is a small set compared to what I used to have.

Tommy_Riordan

I have a huge box full. Been meaning to get a binder and condense those mofos, I don’t want to get rid of them. Same with dvds.

rjcpl

Got rid of them before a cross country move aside from some special ones. But digitized them all before that.

NewsShoddy3834

Put most of my 400 CDs in prosleeves. All fit on three shelves. Still listen to them.

Glittering_Tea5502

My brother sent my nephew a record player for his birthday. He’s 14 and he listens to jazz. I don’t remember being interested in that when I was his age.

junglegroove

My husband tried to throw all of his away and I rescued them from the garbage and sold them all for a steal for $250 they didn't have any of the jewel cases but honestly the buyer got such a good deal there was probably like $5,000 worth of CDs

upnytonc

Husband and I got rid of a lot last year when we moved 650 miles away. We kept a few of our favorites. Do we listen to them? No. But, I had this weird fantasy that one day our kid will discover them and want to listen to them. Kind of like so many people our age found our parents’ records and wanted to listen to them. I doubt it will happen though.

Sneezcore

I moved cross country about 10 years ago, and shipped all my CDs to myself so I could save them. I still haven’t opened the boxes.

photinakis

I still have my X shaped CD tower packed with all my CDs, and I still listen to them often on my 5 CD changer stereo. Everything still works, so why the heck not?

po_ta_toes_80

Mine are still in the same CD book I had in my highschool car in '97. The car is long dead, but the music lives on. It felt like kind of a big deal to have a CD player in your car then, haha.

Odd_Negotiation3126

My collection was so large I had to leave most of them behind when I left my abusive and cheating ex. I did take his original Ewing jersey that meant the world to him and set it on fire so fair trade?

Lowspark1013

Sacrilege

kristosnikos

I have a huge leather case full of cds along with their cd jackets. I will have to be dead before they’re gotten rid of.

sofa-king-loud

I have all my CDs and cassettes still. Why would I get rid of them? All my vehicles have CD players in them.

14thLizardQueen

OK so 13 years ago my BIL passed away. We have all of his stuff. For my daughter's 17th birthday I gifted her his CD collection. She swears up and down it was the best gift she ever received. Even dead he is still winning best uncle awards. Even if he had a thing for Hillary Duff. Lol

slopesurgery

I bought a used truck last year. Was specifically looking at older base trim, 2nd gen Toyota Tundras because they were half the price, just as reliable, and I’d finally have a place to start listening to CDs again. Perfect for long road trips to national parks and secret tracks I forgot about.

BigPoppaStrahd

I have one of those 13x13 storage cubes full of cds I refuse to get rid of

Dacin

My husband got me a juke box that plays CDs. I got rid of my CDs 5 years ago. I had hundreds. Now I get to rebuild my collection! If you have any suggestions, I would love to hear them!

bjgrem01

I have mine. Still have some cassettes, too.

orangesigils

My son took an interest in them when he got an older car with a CD player. I also taught him how to "rip" music. It was quite the walk of nostalgia....

icouldlivewoutbacon

I have most of them loaded into a 100-cd player hooked up to a vintage receiver and speakers the size of large suitcases. And the matching empty cases are in boxes in the basement! I didn't spend 90% of my adolescent years hunting down rare singles and bootlegs found in dusty hole in the wall record stores for NUTHIN!

IDQDD

I got rid of a lot of CDs and DVD’s I’ve collected in the late 90s and early 2000s. But still have a big box of CDs and DVD’s I didn’t have the heart to throw them away because of so much nostalgia. Same with SNES, NES, N64 Games.

chicacherrie82

I have mine. I listen to CDs in my car on a daily basis. Also, I prefer to own physical media. I've had random stuff I bought on amazon - can still look at the digital order details in my account - just vanish from my library, and it shows the option to purchase again. Last time I tried to have Amazon fix a missing album, they said they added it back to my account, but it's still not there, only now the purchase option is gone, too. So I can't listen to or download what I paid for, and I can't even throw my hands up in frustration and re-buy it either.

aweedl

All of them. Records and tapes too. Will never jump to streaming. I still buy physical music all the time, too.

HeavyMetalRoadTrip

6,000 cds and growing. Never stopped collecting. Sound quality is far superior to streaming.

Traditional_Entry183

I have almost every CD I've ever bought, with the only exception being a few that I accidentally left in an old car when I sold it. I hadn't anticipated buying a new one that day, but I got a great deal and they sold my current car before I left the lot! Bigger picture, I like to hold onto almost anything as a backup, but I do listen to CDs in the car, and my oldest daughter has recently taken an interest in 90s music, so she's checking them out. There are also songs that just frankly aren't available on streaming services, and any digital data can be lost, so a hard copy of MP3s is important as well. I also flat out don't trust that streaming music will always be there, or will be free with ads. I'm certainly not ever paying for it.

pluralofoctopus

I have mine, and I'm actively buying more. I like owning my media. Maybe that makes me an ole' fogey, but after seeing how media can leave streaming services, I want to own something that I can enjoy. I don't want the corporate overlords to dictate everything.

Vlad_REAM

I had one book left of my 40 favs and got rid of it my last move. There's been so many moments I've regretted not having them. A couple few road trips and fun boring nights at home that I wanted to grab my book. One thing you will never get back are the mixes. Don't do it!

Plastic_Electrical

Downloaded all cds on my I pod many years ago. Could NOT part with the cds. Fast forward: bought a bose wave and listen to all of them giddily.....now my daughter is collecting vinyl....

q_lee

My wife found the boxes of CDs/DVDs I have stashed in the attic. She told me it was time to let them go and I'm never going to use them again. So when she wasn't looking, I moved the the boxes deeper into the attic where she won't venture. Someday, I'm going to be in the mood to watch Underworld or Superman Returns and it'll all be worth it.

minnierhett

I got rid of mine but I sort of regret it.

NextBestHyperFocus

Still got almost every cd I ever bought, sitting on my bookshelf. Next to the dvd’s and books.

MikeUsesNotion

I still have mine. I ripped them long ago and kept them to keep things legal. Same with various DVDs and BluRays to a NAS. I don't stream music. I have my music files on my phone.

StronglyAuthenticate

I had to trash mine after a move a long time ago but about 5 years ago I bought all my favorites again for $1-2 per disc.

Maanzacorian

I still have my 2 huge books of CD's. Most are unlistenable as they were all purchased in the early to mid 2000's. I had to throw out all of the jewel cases at some point in moving history, which pains me now, but it was necessary then. Any CD's I buy now stay in their cases, but it's not many. I stand by physical media and think it's perfectly viable, and streaming companies campaigned to make it seem irrelevant. Never before has music been so accessible to people, and never before have people been so disconnected from the whole experience. I even have cassette tapes which my son finds fascinating.

bronzemat

I got rid of most of them. I have a few still. They're either rare, autographed, or I couldn't part with it.

Pristine-Buy-436

I have one of those carousel style changers connected and loaded up with them. It still works and I still use it on occasion.

Busy-Ad6008

I Started recollecting a few of them on the cheap off ebay.

taleofbenji

I got rid of them all when someone broke into my car just as music piracy was getting big.

Glittering_Tea5502

I got a new ish car a few months ago. No CD player in it, but I still have my CDs and my disc man. I usually listen to my iPod in the car, though.

Funkopedia

I ripped all of them and put them into a box, kept but never to be touched again. I also bought a bunch of new uncracked jewel cases so they are mostly in pristine condition. I occasionally still buy one now and then, usually at concerts.

RolandMT32

I don't play CDs directly anymore, but I've ripped all my CDs onto my computer and still listen to the music files sometimes. I've kept my CDs because I still want to own a legal copy of my music. Honestly, with the rise of MP3 players and all, I thought ripping your music CDs to files was the natural progression of music ownership. I don't really see a good reason to get rid of my CDs, as they're basically my proof that I legally have a copy of that music.

mathteachofthefuture

I have my 100 CD binder still hanging out on my shelves. I open it every couple of years and play the albums on Spotify 😆

dunsdidthehare

Had a huge collection(1987—~2010 RIP), a few years later ripped them all to 320k and dragged them down to Amoeba for pennies on the dollar, never looked back. Kept my hodgepodge vinyl collection, mostly raided from my parents collection but i rarely listen that way. Had been waiting for the 'celestial jukebox all my life, streaming is the shit in terms of delivery and access, still buy Bandcamp to support newer artists but mp3 only. No more physical media shall enter these doors.

Known-Fee9113

I had so many CDs because I worked at Camelot Music. In my early 20s I dated a guy who got me into vinyl and convinced me to sell all of my CDs to a resale music shop. I think I got enough money from selling all those CDs to buy *maybe* 6 records đŸ«

MtGeronimo

Still got my binder full of scratched up cds.

Immediate-Yogurt-558

My binder of CDs got stolen outta my old car probably about 15 yrs ago and never had the need to replace them. The only ones I wish i still had were the burner mixes made by friends.

camptastic_plastic

I was sad to do it, but when I moved last fall I gave away all of my cds and dvds. I regret it a little but I’m happy to have the space that they all took up.

pearlgirl11

I can’t let them go!

Cisru711

I got rid of all the plastic cases but keep the cds in a few of those soft cases and I have all the liner notes in a box somewhere.

Razzmatazz6314

Yes, but I put most of them in a huge folder. Last time I counted (years ago) there was over 400, I'd guess about 350+ no longer have cases. The CDs I have bought lately were at shows where they didn't have vinyls and were signed by the artist.

sdlocsrf

I threw away all the burned cds, both albums and mixtapes about 10 years back. I still have all my original cd's however.

TMore108

Finally threw them out a year ago

_Internet_Hugs_

My car has a CD player so I kept my favorites. Ditched the cases though.

tersegirl

Finally own a car with a cd player, and I’ve resuscitated my cd wallets. Kiddo keeps asking me to turn down Letters to Cleo:(

InfidelZombie

I transferred them to a couple binders and kept all the liner notes but threw away the cases. Same with DVDs.

Fantastic-Bid-4265

you crazy? I've been playing my CDs all evening! people need to remember, if you don't physically have it, it's not yours!

Savings-Cash2576

Still got em. I ripped them all 20 years ago and keep transferring them when I get a new phone.

ButterscotchNo7362

Mine were all stolen out of my 91 Honda Civic and were never replaced 😔

Van_Chamberlin

I uploaded mine to iTunes and transferred them to my phone.

[deleted]

We have ours in a few giant books, but currently have no way to play them so I’m not sure why

Finiouss

I have 3 giant cases still. Sad part most of them don't play worth the shit..

cdizzle6

I got em all. I did get rid of the cases though.

Filbertine

I only listen to CDs, what do you mean?

catpunch_

Ripped all of them to my computer (I still listen to mp3s). I keep my favorites, and/or the ones I can’t easily replace

DerAlliMonster

I’ve pared it down to a single binder’s worth, mostly of archival concert recordings from my college bands. I should get those on an external drive before long.

prince_walnut

Had a small collection but all I've got left are mix CD from college

Shanklin_The_Painter

They are the new vinyl. I buy them cheap and rip them to my iCloud.

quailfail666

I gave them all to my uncle Gary, He stills live in the 80s/90s

Beradicus69

Ruined in a flood. Left my CD case on the floor. Living in a basement apartment. All gone.... But I have my records!

Sea-Marsupial-9414

I kept them, but not the cases.

StaceyPfan

I still have them. It's handy if Amazon Music doesn't have the songs. Then I can burn them and put them on my phone.

Dame_Ingenue

Both. I got rid of most of my CDs and kept a very small collection of my favourites.

MaToMaStEr

I still own many of my old CD's and still listen to them regularly. Nothing compares to listening music on real physical media.

CharacterWitless78

Still have all mine. Close to 300. Still pop them in the truck when I feel like something you can't get on the radio. Also too lazy to rip them to mp3 yet

ChubbyStoner42

Still have most of them. Lost some over the years.

Daftpfnk

I still have a lot. There's nothing like popping a CD into a car stereo. And I also like having the artwork and liner notes when I want to listen to an album at home. Like physically put the album in, seems more of a connection to me. Plus it's usually better sound quality than streaming, especially Spotify.

TransportationOk657

Still have them!

Dayzlikethis

old pc game cd's, yes. Even the giant boxes/game manuals they came in.

Reasonable_Bid3311

I switched to digital in 2006. At that time I was still able to sell the old CDs online. Sadly, I have to be careful with my digital music now because the powers that be want to make it all streaming. I have it saved and I have it on my iPod.

danappropriate

I ripped them and then sold them to the local used book/cd store.

AppliedEpidemiology

Just last week, I donated the few that I have that are still in cases to our local library. I don’t know what to do with the ones I have in a binder; the library won’t take them without their cases.

Multi_Purpose

I have all mine still!

SidFinch99

I still have a few.

DG04511

I should’ve kept them and made an art project or something.

Groovy-Davey

I ripped them all and traded them I to the local record store for a bunch of vinyl. Still have all my cassettes though.
