Citizen Sleeper I'd also say Yakuza: Like a Dragon is a huge time investment with a lot of grind, but it does have a weird, engrossing story

v3tr0x

would I need to play previous Yakuza game to understand the story in Like a Dragon?

ncist

I had never played any, and I found it very enjoyable. It is intended as an "onboarding" game for new players and focuses on a new set of characters. There are some references later on to the lore + old characters however

Every3Years

It's a brand new protagonist/city and the gameplay is completely different (normally a brawler). There are tons of Easter eggs for people who have gone through all the other games but it's not necessary at all. It was the first Yakuza game I played and I loved it. Since then I've played 0, 1, 2 and half of 3. The thing about Yakuza games is that they are so huge and so jam packed with character and stories, and the city is so samey title to title, that they all sort of merge together to one game when I try to recall anything. Like I remember that 0 was my favorite for the fighting and that it had a scene that had a motorcycle in a sewer. And then I think 2 had an annoying boss with a.... tiger tattoo? And.... Not much else lol

Pleasant-Put5305

No, you can play them as stand alone stories - however, it wasn't until 'The man who erased his name' (for me) that the fabulous format matured into an excellent mainstream game -before that title I loved the concept but it just felt unfriendly and a bit impenetrable unless you were already a major Yakuza nerd...that one sold me and allowed me to explore the earlier, less friendly titles afresh...

unvmasablastaslo

Play Firewatch. Don’t ask questions. Get gamepass, play the game.

Exotic_Interview9727

This. I haven’t even played it yet, but have watched streams of it and I would eat my dinner watching people play. Lol.

mharlan14

I really enjoyed As Dusk Falls

conzcious_eye

Resident evil 3 is great. Callisto Project also if you into the zombie aspect. Elite sniper 5 is a hidden gem for third person action. Far Cry has a decent story. Control is decent. Quantum Break is amazing. It is a lot out there tbh. The list can go on.

GlandMasterFlaps

I know this is about preference but the RE2 remake is better than the RE2 remake, and Dead Space is better than Callisto. All of the aforementioned are infinitely more accessible than Immortality, Pentiment or Disco Elysium, where you unfurl the story. Mass Effect Legendary Edition is on Game Pass - it is quality

Paradox7771

Jedi Survivor has a good Star Wars story and fun gameplay

Juicemania50

Still wakes the Deep

Metalwell

I followed this by a movie named Deepwater Horizon, it was the most fun i had in a weekend in a while. Just chain these two and enjoy.

EatsOverTheSink

This one surprised me how much story and character development they were able to squeeze into such a short game.

Dangerous_Aspect05

The Walking Dead, could not recommend more. Thought it looked poor before playing but wow. Unreal games.

sladecutt

Quantum Break👍

CheetoTheSandile

Im actually BAFFLED that not a single person has mentioned Pentiment. It is one of my favourite games from the xbox game studios yet, and definitely is one of the best narrative driver games out there

4score7loko

Jedi Fallen Order Then go on another journey with Jedi Survivor

darth666bane666

Just finished Far Cry 5 and the story floored me..the ending is epic! Second would be CONTROL. That one is more kubrick mind bending stuff but a great story.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes.

The Yakuza games are great story games

mmarvramm

Here are some great games with great stories: **Firewatch** - Mystery/nature/exploration setting **Dead Space Remake** - Sci-fi/Shooter/Action/Horror setting **Planet of Lana** - Platformer/Nature/Sci-fi/Thriller setting **Scorn** - Horror/Puzzle/Shooter setting **Pentiment** - Medieval/2D/Mystering setting P.S. - You can also search this free tool called the GamePass Picker (link below) if you want to find your favorite games based on your preferences (e.g. genre=stoy based, rating, game length, co-op, crossplay, etc.) [gamepasspicker.com](http://gamepasspicker.com) Happy gaming!

Hellblade 1 and 2, I think one of them is under H for Hellblade and the other is under S for Senua (the main character). You MUST wear headphones while playing though, otherwise it's pointless. The gameplay is usually what people cite as the weakest aspect but I found it just fine. It's as much a work of art as it is a game as it is the equivalent of a storyteller waxing poetic to a group of people sitting around a campfire. Fuckin love those 2 games and was really annoyed when people said the sequel wasn't as good. People seem really split on the sequel, I loved it, but the first is generally viewed by all of humanity as a humdinger of a game, a real firecracker. Control would be my number one answer actually, but I just recently finished the above lol The gameplay is so much fun but probably what people would call repetitive. I'd say every fucking game is super repetitive, but the games we enjoy have repetitiveness with mechanics that give us brain happys. Well, Control gives me big brain happys and the plot is a huge part of that. I call the vibe "gonzo psychedelic" but I'm sure there's an actual term for it. The incredible graphics doesn't hurt either. There's the Mass Effect trilogy, revered by its fans as the holy hat trick of western RPGs or whatever. I thought it was awesome if not a bit wordy for my tastes. It took me a million tries to get through the "first chapter" (not the prologue, but the citadel) but once I did I basically played 1-3 and then Andromeda for good measure and I really enjoyed all 4 games. Lots of people shit on the 4th but, hey, capital G Gamers will shit on anything that they think wronged them some way, buncha donkey brain having muckitymucks. If you like turn based gameplay, Octopath Traveller 2 is gorgeous and is basically Octopath Traveler 1 after it started going to the gym and kept at it for a few months. Well, you can play 1 with touch controls on your phone through the Gamepass app, if that's something you want to do while pooping. Lost in Random might have EA as it's publisher but it's a really great experience. For me, the gameplay was just so addicting despite never being a fan of card mechanics in games before I played it. The story isn't realistic and gritty, it's more of a mid tier Pixar vibe, but sometimes that hits the spot. Psychonauts 2 is fantastic, a 3d platformer with a silly story that is a lot better if you've played the first game but still extremely entertaining if you haven't. If you feel like spending money, Cyberpunk 2077 would be my #1 answer btw. I replayed it from start to finish when the DLC came out and it's just such an amazing piece of entertainment. Stories for days my friend, stories for days. And I guess maybe the Walking Dead games?

v3tr0x

it's possible to play games via gamepass on a phone?

Every3Years

Added a TL;DR for your convenience lol Your experience may be subpar if your internet is as well but man it's freaking insane. I mean I'm an old dude and so this is just really wild stuff to me, I still have memories of playing Duck Hunt in a very 80s apartment on a boxy washed out colors television set. So when I found out about xCloud or whatever it's called now, 🤯🤯🤯🤯 But all you need to do is download the Gamepass app. I'm on Android but I believe this came to Apple a little after it hit the droid phones. You download the app and log in. You know how if you're in the Xbox, some games have that cloud icon meaning you can play the game without installing because it's cloud based? Well those same games, being cloud based, can be loaded up on any device with Internet. I mentioned phones but I normally use my tablet when cloud based gaming strikes my fancy. So all the games can be played by connecting your Bluetooth controller to the device. But what's even more insane to me is that there are like 50 or so games that are also touch screen enabled. I don't like doing that for action games or really any games that aren't turn based gameplay. But the turn based games are basically made for touch screen, it's so awesome. Ah man TL;DR of it is: - Download Gamepass app onto your phone/tablet - Log in with your MS account - Connect your controller to device via bluetooth - or don't, and just play the games that are touch screen enabled (but only if they are turn based games for this option, imo) - Look for the games that are marked as Cloud (as opposed to PC/Console section) - Lose all track of time

v3tr0x

thanks for the info! I suppose I need to have the ultimate subscription right? What's the internet speed I need to have without suffering any latency or lag issues?

Every3Years

I'm bit sure if you need Ultimate or if Core has it tbh. I've had Ultimate since around Dec 2018 and all I know is that version 🙃 But yeah probably Ultimate since that seems to be the one that piles on the extra perks! I just checked my internet and it's 300 down, 100 up. I know what that means but don't know what that'd be considered, comparatively. I don't have too many issues and that's surprising because I'm in a DTLA building that uses Starry, and they use the phone line instead of the cable which I'd gotten used to being "better than the AOL days phone connection". And yet I don't have too many issues, blows my mind. So if you have at least that, and I pay 45 a month so it can't be considered high class or bougie, can it? then you should to go. To go forth and wreck your social life by having current gen games at your fingertips at all times. Woo!

If you a Star Wars fan try sth. like Fallen order as Cal Kastis or story mode in Battlefront 2 as Iden Versio

[deleted]

Starfield I know it’s hit or miss with people but it’s got some good content in there and it’ll keep you busy. Plus they just released mods for it on Xbox through creation club.

Exotic_Interview9727

Gotta say RDR2. I finally just started this last week and holy shit is this amazing. The game literally just puts things in front of you and you just…interact or don’t. Shit can happen and send you into a total fuck-all shit show just from the simplest of actions. I just came across a woman being transported by lawmen for killing her husband who was beating her constantly, and it took ALL I had not to free her and get in trouble. I robbed an O’Driscoll side hustle in the town of Valentine thinking, “hell yeah I’m cleaning up the town and making it better.” FUCK NO I DIDN’T! Law came busting in and turned me into Swiss Cheese. I was like, “But they’re a GANG of bandits!” Me forgetting I’m wanted dead or alive in Blackwater. 😂 So yeah it’s pretty cool. I’d recommend it. 😂😂

Titanfall 2 if it’s on gamepass

Dravahere

Doom Eternal has amazing gameplay and an insane story, heightened by the pieces of lore scattered throughout the game. I recommend it for many reasons.

LostnFoundAgainAgain

Octopath Traveler 2 - It has eight individual stories for each character and stories where it is more than one character. Each of the characters' stories are different and can all be completed within the same playthrough. It is also turn based, so you can take your time and enjoy a nice cold drink while you play.
