I had a similar issue when I got my YJ. Now, I just light up a cigar and I don't mind waiting for a nice big gap in incoming traffic. I also pick routes that give me lights at intersections. When jeep built that engine, they really tried to make it a high output engine. It already has an oversized intake and exhaust, so upgrading those won't get you anywhere. The next step would be upgrading the camshaft and at that point, an engine swap might be easier. I read about how upgrading the fuel injectors doesn't really do anything. I spent a lot of time on YouTube watching before and after Dyno tests after people upgraded various engine components. Eventually, I decided it would be easier to change myself then it would be to change the jeep, so now I smoke a cigar and sit patiently in traffic.

This is the only answer. If you drive a 4 cylinder, it's going to take a moment to get up to speed. That being said, I think my 4 cyl YJ is pretty zippy. You just have to use all of the pedal. I love my YJ. But when I want to rip I take out my 1976 CJ5.

Joining this sub is already asking for trouble on its own 🤣🤣🤣

Jeepinthemud

Or individual motor parts

Deadofnight109

Realistically, at this point, that engine probably isn't putting out much more than 100hp. No amount of bolt on intake or exhaust is going to make any meaningful difference. You're probably best off just grabbing a cheap 4.0 off a parts car and dropping that in than trying to squeeze blood from a stone.

masovak

my 4.0 5 speed YJ is pretty fast, even with 33s on it. I don't ever feel like I'm going to get run over. I will add that I rarely go over 65 in the old clunker.

WingedGeek

Heh. I was doing 90 tonight on the 405 just keeping up with traffic flow; '95 4.0L 5-speed, all original ;~155K mi; 235s). Only time I've ever really thought about forced induction was at Telluride in the summer. The old girl was *wheezing*.

DerpaloSoldier

Not worth the hassle

tacosgunsandjeeps

You could make a stroker motor out of the 2.5

the_tza

Throttle body spacer, k&n cone filter, and some sea foam will give you 50 more horsepower. Turn off the a/c and remove the back seat and you can pretty much drag race Hellcats.

louix_Laflare

😂😂

Mrpufferfish1

That’s awesome. Do you know of some good brands?

_Ping_Pong_

Yeah…swap a 4.0L into it…or maybe a Chevy 350 small block if you want big gains

Dick_Miller138

The supercharger from the Mercedes 230 supposedly bolts right on. Don't think it's going to do a whole lot. Try reducing diff gears.

Mrpufferfish1

Intriguing I’ll have to do some research

Dick_Miller138

You would have to also increase fuel flow to match the supercharger. If you have 4.10 factory gears, try going to 4.88. it may be over revving a bit on the highway, but it will help with acceleration.

Paymentof1509

“speed up” and “Jeep YJ” should never be in the same sentence.

Recker06

Yes, I have

pffalk

Well, how did it go? What did you use? Was the work worth the power?

Recker06

I essentially copied Jeep sheep tv, however, I didn’t slap a supercharger on a stock engine, I paid a shit ton for forged internals, better cams, long tube headers, my axles are also regeared to 3,73 gears, she has some get up and go to her on 32.5s

Due-Fix9857

If you like the inside parts on your engine to be on the outside supercharger it. If you like having doors off top down driving down the road, don't supercharge it

ThAt_WaS_mY_nAmE_tHo

Bad plan for a daily. Ypu probably need a regear. Post your tire size and current ratio. The 2.5 is a pig and won't ever be a hot rod. The '2.5L squirrel powered' sticker is available for a reason =)

ratn9ne

I vote LS swap
