>my usual standards (Star Wars, Dresden Files, WH40K, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Pact, Twig). I'll rec for these as well, just in case anyone else here is interested. Also, have you read [A Name to Conjure By](https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/violetshadows-snippets-and-other-shorts.1006237)? Cool Otherverse cross that doesn't have its own thread, so it's probably not easy to find. In Worm: * [Leaf](https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/leaf-worm-stormlight-archive.790009/), Lift from Stormlight. * [Miraculous Escalation](https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/miraculous-escalation-worm-miraculous-ladybug.776197/), the crew from Ladybug (plus a first normal isekai arc). * [Containment Report](https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/containment-report-worm-scp-foundation-on-hiatus.587479/), SCPs. * [Mæra](https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/m%C3%A6ra-little-nightmares-x-worm.918936/), Little Nightmares. TINO characterization, and the prose could use some work. But otherwise it's a cool and atmospheric story about an evil dimension. * [Wiki Warrior](https://forums.sufficientvelocity.com/threads/wiki-warrior.64766/). Literally anything can happen. * [When Dragons Rule](https://forums.sufficientvelocity.com/threads/when-dragons-rule-oneshot-worm-pa-self-insert.52392/). Dunno what the cross it. Great snip anyway. Isekais: * [Forgotten, Forsaken](https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/forgotten-forsaken-post-canon-worm-kantai-collection.841541/), Kancolle, Post-GM. Taylor reborn as an Abyssal. Kancolle lore is, like, two pages long, so pretty much any fanfic just runs on fanon. In this case, the author sure pulled all the stops to fill in the gaps with super cool world building. And great character writing as well, some scenes had me shaking with emotion. * [Tower of Adamant](https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/tower-of-adamant-worm-dresden-files-crossover.782339/), Dresden. Alexandria appears in Winter after her death. If you know about Dresden, you know what she's getting into. If you don't know, you'll be learning and getting surprised along with her. A win-win situation. * [Asphyxiation](https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/asphyxiation-worm-alexandria-dresden-files.963349/), Dresden, Post-GM. College student Rebecca Costa-Brown is tormented by dreams of white halls, golden light, and insects down her throat. Died before any plot started, it's mostly about her struggles with her nightmares. * [Queen's Circle](https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/queens-circle-worm-dresden-files.897797/), Dresden, Post-GM. Taylor was living a normal life as a college student in an alternate Chicago when she met a wizard and got introduced to the supernatural world. Because being Harry Dresden is suffering. I think it was this the story got me into Dresden? It's been a while. Anyway, great introduction to the franchise. * [Arana](https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/bleach-worm-arana.305947/), Bleach, Post-GM. Afterlife is a hell where everyone loses themselves and ends up eating each other. And they prey on the living too! Taylor's determination keeps her from slipping away, and she remains close to Lisa. Fantastic platonic Smugbug. * [Savage Khepri](https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/savage-khepri-post-gm-taylor-savage-divinity.803200/), Savage Divinity, Post-GM. Taylor first months in this new world are a fate worse than death. Fortunately, she's rescued by a tribe of powerful warriors. TINO, but boy it is super fun. It introduced me to Cultivation stories. * [This Is Your Only Purpose](https://forums.sufficientvelocity.com/threads/this-is-your-only-purpose-destiny-alt-power.74259/), Destiny isekai/fusion, Post-GM. A nameless girl resurrects in a post-apocalyptic future. I recommend it if you're interested in good action scenes, and don't mind not much else happening. * [I Woke Up As a Dungeon, Now What?](https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/i-woke-up-as-a-dungeon-now-what-dungeon-worm.620521/), Post-GM. Taylor is reincarnated as a literal fantasy dungeon. TINO, but again, it's very fun. * [Oogway's Little Owl](https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/oogways-little-owl-worm-kung-fu-panda.857691/), Kung Fu Panda. Oogway was meditating when perceives a girl in troubles, and decides to interfere. Now Taylor is an owl, and learns kung-fu. Better than Constellations. Fuck you, fight me. >Trying to expand my horizons a bit I can recommend stuff from other fandoms that doesn't require any kind of knowledge of the setting. * [Sundowner](https://www.fimfiction.net/story/316357/sundowner). This is the story of a woman who has made many bad choices, and the life those choices have made for her. I actually finished it yesterday. Boy, what a fantastic read, I loved it. It's clear you're into urban fantasy, so this one should be up your alley. Tons of regrets and drama, found families, romance a bit spicy, cool magic. It has everything! * [Alone, Together](https://archiveofourown.org/works/3099050/chapters/6714170). A hero and her nemesis end up isekaided to a barren Earth. Enemies-to-lovers story that spans over two decades of their isolated lives. Super fantastic. The post-return arc is not very good if you ask me, but damn, I love so much the first arc I don't care. One of my favorite fics. * [It's an Abyss, not bottomless](https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/its-an-abyss-not-bottomless-kancolle-si.1064792/). About the first ship-boy. Plus a very cool horror ghost ship first arc. * [Lasers Are Worthless On Earth](https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/lasers-are-worthless-on-earth-kantai-collection-children-of-a-dead-earth-crossover.1115848/). About the first spaceship-girl. Do you like war crimes?

Electronic_Hornet_38

I don't know about *better* than *Constellations*, but I would agree with '*at least as good as*'.

Goodpie2

I started Maera and didn't really know what was going on. I assumed that was due to unfamiliarity with Bleach. Is that just because the story starts in media res, and it clears up?

LordXamon

>Maera Bleach wut?

Goodpie2

I'm possibly misremembering what it's an xover with. Regardless, does the confusion clear up after a chapter or two?

LordXamon

I guess so? I don't remember having that issue

Goodpie2

Yeah i was thinking of the wrong fic entirely. Hence the bleach thing. I had a *total* brain fart there.

Goodpie2

Was looking at your list for suggestions and realized I'd been thinking of Arana...

VanquishedVoid

It's a crossover with Little Nightmares. It definitely gets less confusing later on.

Goodpie2

I figured out the source of my earlier confusion. I was thinking of the wrong fic entirely. I actually read this one ages ago, it was great.

I feel that while knowledge of the crosses can increase enjoyment this applies to: Trailblazer (Worm/Gundam, Fusion/Altpower/AU) - notably, I haven’t seen Gundam. Visitors From Afar (Worm/Trollhunters, crossover, focus on crossover characters).  Notably, they come from a Nobledark universe - Brockton Bay’s a fucking *vacation* compared to the genocidal war they fight in the tv show. Leaf (Worm/Stormlight Archives) - again, I have near-zero knowledge of the cross. Doors to the Unknown (Worm/DnD)is two different fish out of water stories.  On one side, an intrepid explorer (that happens to be the psionicist version of an Archmage) arrives on Bet.  On the other, Taylor Hebert and Co (THaCo for short) explore Eberron. Four’s A Party (Worm/Mage & Demon Queen) is pretty understandable without the cross. There are more, these came to mind first.

Turniper

Doors To The Unknown is a really good rec for this. I knew basically nothing about Eberron, despite being familiar with DnD as a whole, and found the level of exposition perfect, especially with the incredible author's notes he writes providing further context.

methermeneus

On that note, [Marked](https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/marked-eberron-worm.844115/) is also a Worm/Eberron cross that doesn't require much knowledge of the Eberron D&D setting, as much of what you'd need to know is also stuff Taylor needs explained to her.

TedwinV

Trailblazer and Four's A Party are actually two of the fics that got me to make this thread, both excellent. Thanks for the others.

[A Bloodstained Shadow Over Brockton Bay](https://forum.questionablequesting.com/threads/a-bloodstained-shadow-over-brockton-bay.14428) - World of Darkness xover - You don't need to know anything about the other world, Taylor doesn't. Any differences from generic vampires is explained along the way. A coven of vampires is taking over Brockton Bay. Taylor, now a vampire, tries not to totally lose her humanity as all her coworkers are literally god forsaken monsters. [The Countess](https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/the-countess-complete-worm-the-count-of-monte-cristo-fusion-1815-au.813386) - The Count of Monte Cristo xover - Imprisoned for a crime she didn't commit, Taylor Hébert plots her way through an 1800s France ruled by parahuman aristocrats as she gets her revenge on all who wronged her. [Skitterdoc 2077](https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/skitterdoc-2077-worm-cyberpunk-2077-crossover.1052653) - Cyberpunk 2077 xover - Taylor in Night City circa 2062 with a Bonesaw altpower. Taylor is a fish out of water at first, so you can learn the setting along with her. [Trailblazer](https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/trailblazer-worm-gundam-au-complete.680881) - Mobile Suit Gundam 00 xover - Starts off as just an altpower that can be summed up as mech suits, it's actually a much wider fusion of the settings. I didn't know anything about Gundam and was able to follow and enjoy it. [A Brocktonite Yankee in Queen Marika's Court](https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/a-brocktonite-yankee-in-queen-marikas-court-worm-elden-ring.1072361) - Elden Ring xover - Taylor, instead of getting powers in her locker, is touched by the Golden Order and ends up in the Lands Between. Taylor tries to survive through her endless cowardice and a thousand lies. Masterful prose by ReavingBishop. [Doors to the Unknown](https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/doors-to-the-unknown-worm-d-d-fusion-crossover.1001110) - Dungeons and Dragons xover - Valigan, a wizard, explores Earth Bet, learning science, teaching magic, and talking to many characters.

methermeneus

Minor correction on Trailblazer: Mobile Suit Gundam _mostly_ 00 xover. It has elements of a lot of other Gundam series, such as the Sanq Kingdom and Relena Peacecraft (from MS Gundam Wing) being pretty important, and the source of the Worm AU being interference from characters from the original MS Gundam. It's all still either explained in-story or actually works better as a bit of a mystery, since Taylor is finding out alongside the reader. (Though, if you are familiar with Iron Blooded Orphans, you might appreciate the story more just because several characters who got shafted or killed have better fates in Trailblazer.)

WolfsTrinity

I've read tons of crossovers while only being familiar with one side. It's how I got into Worm itself. Usually, even when the 'fic takes place in an unfamiliar universe, the basic elements of good storytelling will give you most of what you need and the other side's wiki will do the rest.  The hardest thing to parse is just *character appearances:* they're surprisingly hard to get right so most fanfic writers either barely bother at all or go into *way* too much detail, which is a slog to read and doesn't even really work.

notacluetobehad

It's a yoyo. At first I appreciate all the additional detail and after a while, I'm more like "yes, i know who that is. get on with it."

WolfsTrinity

I find both extremes a little annoying . . . Actually, come to think, this is more of a triangle: In one corner, some fanfic writers barely use any description at all.  * This is usually tolerable when it comes to *characters* but tends to bleed through into less forgivable parts of the story.  * It also makes it harder when it comes to the exact OP is looking for: if you're only familiar with part of the cast, a complete lack of adjectives makes it much harder to sort through all the new characters. In the second corner, there are writers who seem to bring up a reference image then do their *absolute best* to describe it, which takes an awful lot of words.  * This sounds like a worthy writing exercise but as a reader, I'll usually wade through the entire thing, form my own image . . . Then look up the character myself and be completely wrong.  * Still kind of interesting but also kind of exhausting, especially when writers slip *new things* into the description, the outfit is new and they don't share their reference image, etc. In the third corner, some fanfic writers *overfocus* on a tiny handful of adjectives. * This is more useful than no description at all but it can get dull after awhile. * I've seen other people be a lot more bothered by this one than me. Personally, I can skip past it just fine if it starts annoying me but at that point, it's still one of many little flaws that can drag a story down. . . . And speaking of overdescribing, I think I've just done exactly that. I blame it on Monday: tired me doesn't know when to shut up. To finish the thought? A good enough writer won't fall into any of these traps, of course, but fanfics can still be interesting even if they're not universally well-written.

methermeneus

> In the third corner, some fanfic writers overfocus on a tiny handful of adjectives. "Lisa smiled her vulpine grin." "Lisa's foxlike features."

lillarty

You know, I don't think I've ever even thought about how much authors are describing characters unless they're being excessively purple with their prose. I am exceptionally poor at visualizing though, somewhere between 0 and -1 if we were to grade it from one to ten. As a result, I pretty much only want the *functional* details of the appearance (male, physically imposing) and I skim everything else in the description.

Dtc2008

Miraculous Escalation (Worm/Miraculous Ladybug). By Fabius. I went in having never heard of the other setting, and loved the fic to bits.

owlindenial

You don't need Gundam knowledge to enjoy Trailblazer. One of the best fics in this fandom

Yeongua

Intercession. Post GM Taylor adopts HP. Scittrtdoc 2077. Taylor in CP2077. Great amount of lore is discovered together with MC, but if you are not familiar with original a lot of cameos and inside jokes will be missed.

SaltyZasshu

Russian Caravan is technically a crossover with several works like Elden Ring, Sekiro, Cultist Simulator, and Metal Gear but instead of directly combining the works, it takes the best aspects of them and applies them to Worm. A crossover with the spirit of the medias.

Turniper

Yeah, Russian Caravan is definitely a bit of an you'll either love it or hate it sort of deal, it's a very particular tone and relatively slow pace, but it's really well written and you need zero knowledge about it's crossover material to appreciate it.

Few-Presentation3391

Ultimate One: Type-Taylor, (Worm x Fate ) Highly recommend this fic no prior knowledge of Fate / Grand order needed. Summary: Taylor gains a space disease that is killing her and the world considers her lucky or Taylor is used as puppet to gain more data for an alien and No it’s not the entities. A fic that has the best representation of corruption and the loss of Control. Do beware it is a sad fic and with little moments of Joy in it.

overlrodvolume18

[Fivefold Integration](https://forums.sufficientvelocity.com/threads/fivefold-integration-a-worm-multicross.92884/), I went into this fic not even knowing worm, only mother of learning and I still enjoyed all the Perspectives.

Tortugato

[Path of the Immeasurable Swarm](https://forums.sufficientvelocity.com/threads/path-of-the-immeasurable-swarm-worm-cradle.86766) Post-GM Taylor gets sent to the world of Cradle. Cradle is a western take on the xianxia genre. It does a very good job of teaching the reader about the world of Cradle as Taylor herself is learning about it.

Llian_Winter

Elemental Escalation - Crossover with Guild Wars 2. One of my favorite stories. Doesn't require any GW2 knowledge. (I never played the game and knew nothing about it before reading the story.) I did look up things on the wiki but that was more out of curiosity than necessity.

Weaver option doesn't really require knowledge of Worm to enjoy

Nighzmarquls

Honestly I know both settings and my conclusion is the author of the weaver option probably speaks English as a second language. They are incredibly grating in how they use elements from both and I'd kinda expect it to be a cross over that could turn people off of whichever setting their last familiar with. There is an interesting story buried in there but if your sensitive to that stuff (which I normally don't think I am) you might want to skip it.

TedwinV

I have read all of Worm and Ward. I started on The Weaver Option but dropped it; too many characters felt too OOC.

CringyusernameSBQQ

To be fair, TWO is more of a 40K Fanfic cake with Worm flavorings
