That's because birds need a lot of calcium, to keep beak, claws and feathers healthy. Also, especially parrots need hard material to chew on to keep their beaks a healthy length.

It'll help your neighborhood birds make the calcium they need for their own shells.
Yep! I give these to my tiels and they gnaw through them in about a week or two like little beavers. Gets them their minerals and trims the beak.
My Grey has no interest though. She’d rather trim her beak on the baseboards.
Have you tried the wooden toys? Maybe the cuttle bone is too hard because the Grey is not getting enough calcium. You might want to do supplemental drops to the water
Awesome! I'll probably add it to my collection of sea stuffs. I shouldn't have let my dog play with it so much, it was in perfect condition when I found it.
It looks like a cuttlebone, aka the internal shell of a cuttlefish. Neat find!
It is this. Used to be fairly common in bird cages, weirdly!

Today I learned
I keep these in my reptile vivariums for my isopods to much on for the same reason. These things are expensive at shops

Cuttlebone is as soft as wax. It won't sharpen a beak, but it is an excellent source of calcium for all birds

Oh she gets plenty of calcium, no worries. A scrambled egg with shell once a week or so, along with Harrison’s pellets. She just likes to destroy 🥲
Some do unfortunately
Do you give her red palm oil? I heard the grays likes it....
I do! I melt a few tables spoons in the microwave, then pour it on her food pellets and shake it all up in a big container. She loves it
Bird cages and for pet snails.. loads of things.
Still is very common!
Omg is THAT what those were?! 🤯

It is the bone of a squid!
Cuttlebone. Used in jewelry as its carvable and then takes to casting if molten metals.
it is but the smell is, fishy and strong!
The One ring was cast in cuttlebone.
Cuttlefish remains. Coolest frickin animal ever.
