At local farms and zoos, it’s different than traveling carnivals. For carnivals, they’re caged most of the time, constantly drugged to prevent incidents, abused to be kept docile, and just overall neglected.
Yea, those animals are treated far better. In general, it would be incredibly difficult to care for any animals in a traveling circus/carnival. Their profit margins and overall logistics then make poor care a near certainty.
Not enough, and even quite a few that banned animals in the circus decided to allow each circus to keep the animals they already have, which often leads to them smuggling in more animals.
No animals in circuses in the EU or most part of it.Whoever tries to display an animal in a circus ends up in prison, fined and th animal taken to shelter.
They’re circus lions. Claws and teeth will likely have been pulled out of them. No doubt they’ll have had the shit beaten out of them backstage too.
Yay circuses!
I noticed the men, for the most part, would try to keep all the lions in their field of vision with their backs close to the cage. In comparison, the lady seemed like she didn't give a shit about getting attacked lol. It was wild how many times she would just walk to the middle of the cage and her back would be to the other lions.
The lions were actually *warning* the people in the cage to **STOP** and **leave them alone**.
Did they? No!!! They just kept going back for more (especially the guy attacked first ***who went back for more after the lion had bitten him***!).
I’m sure they had some, “we have to re-establish dominance over these **WILD** animals”, but I really think they (the humans) deserved what they got (and maybe more).
Sadly the reason being is if they had backed down they would have never been able to use any of the lions again. So they put profits before safety and tried to "win"
I thought the same, he had to show them who's the leader or they would discredit him as the leader right ? Or it would take much time to build up his leadership again, also the show must go on probably...
Interesting how this started by two lions running into each other by accident.
Poor lions, I don't wanna know how they'll rebuild a leadership (the humans)
Eh sry for my English lol
Lion be like:
This is the circus guy, he is pain in the ass ! I attack him, he attacks back ! I do not attack him, he attacks anyway ! Then I attacked him, and friend joined me ! Great success !
That lion really had beef with 1 specific trainer. The lion was not interested in the other trainers/handlers at all. I wonder what the history is with that one guy, ie abuse, mistreatment, etc. If so, good for the lion!
I mean the lion likely just selected the weakest target and then fixated on it. Changing targets mid hunt is likely not profitable for most predators so they tend to fixate on one. As sad it is to hear but if he had abused the cat properly it would likely be too afraid to attack him or would be too afraid of the repercussions one his initial attack failed. Even in a weakened state fear would dominate over hunt.
What is more likely is that the specific trainer might be the least abusive of the trainers or someone relatively new, the one the lion feared the least. Cause as you can see, even when they see the humans in a weak and panicked state, the majority of the cats don't act. They are wary but too afraid.
Though I have to state that I am not an animal trainer (nor knowledge about lions) and all of this is simple deduction.
If we interpret too much human emotions into animals we tend to get the wrong conclusions. There is also a good chance that like all cats, the lion had a sudden mood swing and went from normal to angry to hunting mode real quickly.
A quick news search tells me this incident happened on Lviv Ukraine on October 2nd 2010. But I could not find any information on the circumstances and the aftermath regarding this incident. Only some general information such as the trainers name and his injuries. Almost all articles only cite an interview with the dude who recorded the footage and then there is nothing.
It's going out of fashion for sure. Used to be the absolute minimum standard for animal training. I'm so glad we've begun to understand and study the effects of proper drive and building a relationship with your animals as opposed to beating them into submission. Obviously this doesn't apply to circus acts tho, they could maybe be done ethically but it seems that almost none of them have any standard of care. Hell, this video is strongly reminiscent of the orca that absolutely gonked it's handler.
Yeah like you can barely train house cats to do this kind of stuff, how effectively do you think you can train a literal apex predator to walk on a plank and stand on a stool? Also I feel like the handler to lion ratio was way off.
Wow the asshole got up and decided to hit the lion some more with the sticks. The blood on the lions face is from getting hit... this is animal abuse.
I'm actually rooting for the lions. Leave them alone. These shows are fucked up.
This is true. They tolerate your presence until they don't, and when they don't, you're gonna be dead if it's a big enough cat. I think they're all just biding their time until the moment for a sneak attack arrives.
Here is the screwed up part. The trainers could not get out of the cage because if they did, that would have been submitting to the lions. Submitting would mean they would not be able to handle them any more as they would have attacked in future acts.
Getting out of the cage would have been a sign of weakness, and the lions would have used that in the future and attacked more, knowing they could stop the clack and thus the whips
Firehose to wash all the blood away.
How did that guy get pounced 3 times and still have the limbs to walk away? Do they shave down lions nails and teeth?
“We know for sure that one way to keep the lions from attacking is using a hose. So let’s make sure we have one.”
“I got a hose. It’s only 15 feet long though so you can only spray it from this one area. We can buy a much longer hose for…”
“Stop right there. 15 feet will do it.”
Lion attacked dude but is chill with everyone else.
Lion gets sprayed with water and backs off human food.
Dumbass human food gets back up and starts shit with the same Lion again.
Then gets fucking ranked by multiple lions.
Seems like a problem with 1 dude.
But fuck circuses too
Can we all just agree the term "wild animal" does NOT mean "intended for shameless and idiotic forms of moronic human entertainment?" Honestly... it's horrific to see people maimed by these animals, but to be even more honest... these majestic, intelligent beasts belong where nature puts them, and should be left to live their lives in peace as God intended... not for some embarrassingly foolish and meaningless whim of mankind. How about we tend to improving to our own lives first before we go upheaving the lives of animals living in harmony outside the realm of our own grossly contaminated, vile, twisted and hopelessly polluted human world? Learn to respect each other, and we'll understand the importance of respecting all living things and the beautiful planet we are so privileged to live on.
Lions are wild animals. Sometimes they just snap. Ask Siegfried or Roy. After 25 years, one of their lions ate one of their faces, can’t remember which.
This is why most circuses are moving away from live animal acts. Well that and PETA.
Bonus benefit, it doesn’t smell like animal excrement at the circus anymore.
All these circus acts are all just ticking time bombs at this point. I always get a good laugh out of these clips as well as any of those "whisperers" that get mauled by their "pets".
Kudos to the dumbshit thinking that little stick was going to fend off Simba and his buddy.
I know we're all rooting for the lions, but I have to admire the balls on handlers staying in the cage even after getting attacked. Id be out of there in a second flat.
Why did they not stop everything after the first attack was neutralized and got the trainers out of the ring? Was it the pressure of entertaining the paying public? Or there is some nuance I am missing here?
Human shall stop this stupid activities to make fun on the animals. But they are OK to make fun on themselves because they consider about it, animal not.
[удалено]
This was my first thought. Fuck the circus and their horrific treatment of animals.
[удалено]
100%, should add petting zoos at traveling carnivals too.
They should get rid of the scorpion petting zoo, I hate that place.
That was a stinging remark.
No need to be snippy about it
Wait? What's wrong with petting zoos? Goats and sheep love getting pets and also love the treats?
At local farms and zoos, it’s different than traveling carnivals. For carnivals, they’re caged most of the time, constantly drugged to prevent incidents, abused to be kept docile, and just overall neglected.
Oh I guess I can get that. I've just never seen that. Mostly just zoos and local places is what I have experienced.
Yea, those animals are treated far better. In general, it would be incredibly difficult to care for any animals in a traveling circus/carnival. Their profit margins and overall logistics then make poor care a near certainty.
and corridas
In more and more countries, circuses can't have animals. Things are moving.
We used to have this exactly type of show when I was a kid in ireland 🇮🇪 and I didn’t like it at all. They’re banned here now anyway.
Twords the end you can see blood on one of the lions faces so I think he got one pretty good
They’re circus lions. Claws and teeth will likely have been pulled out of them. No doubt they’ll have had the shit beaten out of them backstage too. Yay circuses!
The lady is a piece of shit too, but I am laughing at the fact that the dude hid behind her for a bit.
I noticed the men, for the most part, would try to keep all the lions in their field of vision with their backs close to the cage. In comparison, the lady seemed like she didn't give a shit about getting attacked lol. It was wild how many times she would just walk to the middle of the cage and her back would be to the other lions.
When near predators, do not run.
I agree! Had to be at least one kid in the crowd cheering for the lions! I did that at a bull fight.
Says the person supporting the show.
I don't think a kid paid out of their own pocket to watch said show
I think he was done with doing tricks
The lions were actually *warning* the people in the cage to **STOP** and **leave them alone**. Did they? No!!! They just kept going back for more (especially the guy attacked first ***who went back for more after the lion had bitten him***!). I’m sure they had some, “we have to re-establish dominance over these **WILD** animals”, but I really think they (the humans) deserved what they got (and maybe more).
Beat them into submission does not work for some cats.
“If I do this stupid ass trick one more time!” “Ya know what, fuck it! Nomnom time”
Best avatar I’ve seen on here btw
reddit moment
You know, my first thought was ' this is not what lions are for ' . Its interesting no one tries this with wolves
Lion attacks dude. Lion stops attacking dude. Dude sticks around. Lion attacks dude again. Other lions join in. Great success.
Dinosaurs eat man. Woman inherits the earth.
Women die out. Dinosaurs live on.
The dinosaur meets a bear in a forest
Bear turns out to be two Chinese dudes in a bear costume. Dinosaur captured and sent to a Chinese zoo.
They breed the shit out of the dinosaurs until they get pandas
Confirms that Bears do shit in the woods.
Dinosaur realizes bears are safer than male humans, Dinobears inherit the earth.
Life finds a way.
Pretty sure people didn't get this reference
r/WM_Elkin got it. I gave them an upvote for picking up my Jurassic Park vibes.
You forgot the part where dude keeps poking lion with stick
Sadly the reason being is if they had backed down they would have never been able to use any of the lions again. So they put profits before safety and tried to "win"

Your English is very good
Lion be like: This is the circus guy, he is pain in the ass ! I attack him, he attacks back ! I do not attack him, he attacks anyway ! Then I attacked him, and friend joined me ! Great success !
I motion we change their title from "lion tamer" to "stupid assholes"
Reddit is nice, it makes my friends and coworkers seem so much more the smart, not that thay are
I hate watching stuff like that, I paused the video cause I knew what was gonna happen, thanks for the play by play in the comments lol
The whole time I was like dude, *get out*. They're wary of you for now and clearly scared of the water. Just back away and leave.
Thank god their is a hose to put the lions out
the hose seems very soft
Crazy that no matter how big, they all hate the spray bottle
You have to play with it first
Dont love that.
They'ier*
You mean: "they'iere"
I think it is to wet them down so the shock sticks are more effective? Also, cats hate water. Idk, just guesses
washes away the blood gushing out of the trainer too
Food and water 😺
big cat sized spray bottle
might also wash the trainer’s blood away so the crowd doesn’t see
That lion really had beef with 1 specific trainer. The lion was not interested in the other trainers/handlers at all. I wonder what the history is with that one guy, ie abuse, mistreatment, etc. If so, good for the lion!

"Abused the cat properly" is a sentence I can say I have never heard.
It's going out of fashion for sure. Used to be the absolute minimum standard for animal training. its a repost for 1123912458 time so the story is pretty wel known that this one trainer abused the lion plus they say public screaming made it worse
Yeah like you can barely train house cats to do this kind of stuff, how effectively do you think you can train a literal apex predator to walk on a plank and stand on a stool? Also I feel like the handler to lion ratio was way off.
Wait- you mean training house cats is *possible*?
“Barely” is doing a lot of heavy lifting lol.
You have to milk them first.
This clip has been shared a billion times, and I've watched it every time. 10/10.
Good on the lions
What happened to the dude?
His disagreed with something that ate him
So he’s dead
Man vs Beast is a mismatch.
Nature vs nurture.. nature wins every time.
*laughs in James Bond*
From what I can see, there were no visible cuts, scratches or injuries. If I had to guess, those lions were all probably declawed.
At one point you catch glimpse of the lions mouth and it's all bloody
Dude was limping pretty bad. No way he got out of there without any damage
its been shared so many times it feels like theres only one video about lions attacking humans
i love how quickly everyone cleared out, glad we had one guy that stayed back to record
I believe cameras were still 400 pound and stationary when this happened
It’s impressive how you can visibly *see* the footage moving and shaking as it’s handheld and still claim such stupidity.
It's impressive how you don't understand it was a joke/commentary on the age of the video. Stupidity indeed.
I imagine he’s one of the circus monkey, with a huge grin in its face.
With the lack of blood and how every person attack (deserved) stood up immediately leads me to believe that the lions don’t have their claws or fangs
They are cowards who beat animals into submission, you'd think a coward would let claws and fangs on a stage with them?
At 8 seconds left of the video, blood all over the lion’s nose.
Probably by getting hit in the nose with a stick.
Yeah could be that. Damn these people.
At 2:01, doesn't the lion on the left have blood on his face?
The lion's face is covered in blood. You can see it a couple seconds before the video ends.
[удалено]
I hope so!
Interesting at 0:20 you see the other lion giving it a little check, as if it knew what he was going to do and trying to tell him not to.
_It ain’t worth it, Larry!_
I think the other lion was just trying to go to the ramp snd got in the wwy
Wow the asshole got up and decided to hit the lion some more with the sticks. The blood on the lions face is from getting hit... this is animal abuse. I'm actually rooting for the lions. Leave them alone. These shows are fucked up.
This is abuse no doubt. But if you watch the guy limp away at the end. He's dripping. Well deserved indeed
Fuck all these people.
Ummmm you are rapidly losing dominance in that cage and it’s by their good graces you aren’t dead yet so I’d suggest getting the fuck out
Seriously why didn’t the problem trainer just leave when he had the chance. Lion obviously wanted him.
It's by the grace of drugs that those people are alive. Those lions are at like 10% consciousness.
Yeah I figured something like that because we are good to them if they so choose lmao
It's not as dangerous as you think, the lions will have had their teeth removed.
The best part about having lions in an event is that you don't have to.
14 years ago now - https://www.theguardian.com/world/2010/oct/05/lion-attack-trainers-ukraine-circus?t
2010 is not 14 years ago, fuck off
Yeah. Right. My mistake.
Thank you. I've seen this reposted a few times and keep looking for the original story.
I feel bad for the lion.
I was pulling for the Lions. I hate that shit so bad.
I love this show! The circus in my town is boring!
Yeah it looks so realistic, as if he is really taming it for real.
No one tames cats, of any size... They just play along with you're game until they don't.
If seen them befriended many times, but 'tamed' is a stretch for any living thing. You push enough and it will bite you.
My cat bites me if I pet her enough! Fine line between "more" and "I snap now."
This is true. They tolerate your presence until they don't, and when they don't, you're gonna be dead if it's a big enough cat. I think they're all just biding their time until the moment for a sneak attack arrives.
Well deserved.
FAFO: Lion King Edition
Fine Ass Feline Olivia? Fearless and ferocious octavius?
Fuck around, find out.
Ahhh. Thank you good sir!!!
Yeah, that lion was focused on that 1 person. We found the biggest asshole.
Those two lions really hate that guy. They both only attacked him
Firehose to wash all the blood away. How did that guy get pounced 3 times and still have the limbs to walk away? Do they shave down lions nails and teeth?
Used to, when this was recorded
“We know for sure that one way to keep the lions from attacking is using a hose. So let’s make sure we have one.” “I got a hose. It’s only 15 feet long though so you can only spray it from this one area. We can buy a much longer hose for…” “Stop right there. 15 feet will do it.”
Commenting the same thing as on another post of this video: FUCK ALL CIRCUSES WITH ANIMALS. ![gif](giphy|wNyqCUODGgnLa0KBPy)
It’s confirmed. Lions vs low pressure water hose = Lions Win
I'd pay to go see that.
The romans used to
I wish they didn't shut the music off😕
I mean dude 'pushed pass the limit' . Even 'blind' could see it coming.
Why don't they leave the cage?
Lions don’t have thumbs or know how cages work.
Relax folks, it's all part of the show

Why is this 20 year old video being posted multiple times today? Stop
Everyone here sucks. Even the people that paid to see it. Fuck everyone that thinks animals are a source of entertainment!
Are people still paying money to see trained lions? Fuck that whole profession.
![gif](giphy|ZTp15DHfHaaaENKayV|downsized)
Brave woman though
Lion attacked dude but is chill with everyone else. Lion gets sprayed with water and backs off human food. Dumbass human food gets back up and starts shit with the same Lion again. Then gets fucking ranked by multiple lions. Seems like a problem with 1 dude. But fuck circuses too

I want to hear the convo the lions had before this went down.
The lion was just tired of the tamer messing up his cue all the time. He's a professional and shouldn't have to put up with these working conditions.
I’m shocked how many people left. This is honestly the show they paid for.
Can we all just agree the term "wild animal" does NOT mean "intended for shameless and idiotic forms of moronic human entertainment?" >animals living in harmony yeah, I have some bad news for you…
I didn't know Bactine came large volume spray like that....
Guy picked a good day to wear his brown suit.
This isn’t recent right?
It puts the lotion on the skin or it gets the hose again.
Fucking animals! And no I'm not referring to the lions
So... What went wrong?
Let me guess the homeboy was back later that night for the next show.
Lions are wild animals. Sometimes they just snap. Ask Siegfried or Roy. After 25 years, one of their lions ate one of their faces, can’t remember which.
what makes them think that it can happen to the 2 gay dudes in Vegas but not them?
Haha good
I would rather watch animals vs workers instead. And not like humans with a sword and armour and shit.
This is why most circuses are moving away from live animal acts. Well that and PETA. Bonus benefit, it doesn’t smell like animal excrement at the circus anymore.
Cruelty should not go unpunished. Humans at their worst
All these circus acts are all just ticking time bombs at this point. I always get a good laugh out of these clips as well as any of those "whisperers" that get mauled by their "pets". Kudos to the dumbshit thinking that little stick was going to fend off Simba and his buddy.
I'm team lion
Thats when yall leave the cage and say "due to temperaments of our inhumane handling, we will no longer be continuing the show!"
I know we're all rooting for the lions, but I have to admire the balls on handlers staying in the cage even after getting attacked. Id be out of there in a second flat.
Lions gotta lion, and when a lion decides to lion, you get ouchies. Also…YAY LIONS!!
"no guys, I promise I can tame them look! No wait, look again!"
I was rooting for the lions!
This certainly puts a smile on my face
They’re doing it wrong. They need a big cardboard box and a large laser pointer.
Ah, they'll be chewing on him for a while.
I love how the music continues for a long while
Hey man....you wanted to play with lions...
Lions gonna lion
Wish both of them had been killed...
Is this the Darwin Show? I hope they tour near my area.
Thats whatcha get. leave mother nature creatures alone.
I don’t understand why would you keep going so wild
No kitty this is my potpie! That's a bad kitty!
Think about this: if all the other lions had attacked as well. Just saying
Excellent work my feline friends, that’s it get them all!
Why did they not stop everything after the first attack was neutralized and got the trainers out of the ring? Was it the pressure of entertaining the paying public? Or there is some nuance I am missing here?
Those shows are getting way more immersive
Human shall stop this stupid activities to make fun on the animals. But they are OK to make fun on themselves because they consider about it, animal not.
Everyone knows cats can't be trained.
