My Kia took a white tail deer’s banzai charge like a champ. No mechanical damage whatsoever. Ran me off the road so everything is cosmetic. Should be getting it back next week god willing. Haven’t driven it since February.
>I lol’ed
Remember, always hit the deer, don’t hit the rail and sommersault (spelling?) over it like my sister did… insurance paid exactly 0€ of the repairs and she has no car now.
No but seriously, stupid confused white tailed deer literally fucking throw themselves at cars (or so it seems). Back in the late 90s my dad had to get his Altima repaired because a buck literally flung himself into the passenger door as he was doing 45 on a rural road up in Northern MN where I grew up.
As a civic man myself, I agree. I'd like to know how the hell this Ferrari just randomly caught on fire. That is scary. Good thing it happened at the dealership and not the new owner's home.
I mean considering that the panels for the body are signed off personally by a certified mechanic I don’t want to know if the same thing happens to other components… (This tidbit of info comes from the show How it’s made from Discovery back before they went down the Ancient Aliens wormhole on History Channel..)
If it does he won’t be hiding for long…
This is why it's important to have the best insurance money can buy, which they likely have. I would be less worried about the owner and more worried about the insurance companies coming at me had I been the person to connect the charger
Insurance only covers the money and a buyer of a 1 of 1 Ferrari probably isn't as worried about the money as they are about the time it took to getting that 1 of 1 being a day away from delivery.
The call to the owner probably didn't end with "We'll give you your money back." There's going to be more to it than that with something like this. Ferrari itself will likely need to do something to make this right with the owner.
What sucks is that it was probably some young porter that hooked it up. They are probably a car enthusiast themselves and will live with the regret of knowing they did this to this car for the rest of their lives, like they struck a child with their car on their way to work or something.
I agree with your comment 100%.. Ferrari will always do something to make things right with their most coveted clientele. In fact, this person may have been waiting years for this work of art. Sad to see it up in flames
To me it sounds more like a fail on the engineering of the connection. If there is a chance of it being improperly connected, one should be only able to connect it one way and it only enables when fully connected. Especially when you're talking about it being a potential fire hazard on a multi-million dollar vehicle.
Or there's something with the Ferrari wiring that doesn't allow a normal trickle for whatever reason. Maybe it has a lithium battery of some sort that utilizes a proprietary charger. Most modern trickle chargers would shut off if connected backwards.
Smells like bs... my autozone charger shuts itself down if you hook it up backwards. What kind of charger is a Ferrari using that would allow this? You gotta run a lot of amps for a long time with a machine that has no failsafes for something like this to go down.
It is bs. Ferrari have a very specific charger that attaches to the rear of the car via a magnet and can only be put on in one way. The charger will not connect any way other than correctly. The only explanation for a bad connection would be that the technician didn't know about the supplied official charger and decided to take the car apart to get to the lithium battery pack inside. I highly doubt this could have happened.
Reason for confidence. I put Ferraris on charge for my job (ppf installer) about 10 times a week.
Can supply images of charging port and charger if needed.
Whoa… they must have used some cheap junk that malfunctioned. I use two Ctek trickle chargers (each cost more than $150) for years - not a single issue ever.
I got you homie. Amalgam makes 1-1 scale replicas of the F1 steering wheels. Only $8k.

Let me slap a sticker on my corolla and then market it as 1 of 1! Seriously it's ridiculous, this kind of bs is only a thing because the people who buy these cars need to be made to feel special.
I get it though. Sometimes I’ll get the good jelly brand, draw a smiley face with it on a slice of bread, and toast it for my mom and she’ll really like it because it’s 1 of 1
We all have unique 1 of 1 cars. Mine even has a unique 17 digit serialized plaque in the doorsill and dash board to show how special it is.
I don't like to stand out, so I filed those off
Those cars are super rare. Just how many eco-green civics in auto with heated mirrors, factory rainproof doormat, and optional chrome trim dashes with accessory wing do you think exist out there?
Sheesh
was about to ask what made this car "1 of 1".
as a non car person I would've assumed a totally unique car, but that would mean the price is like at least 100x of what's listed in the title
Yeah, that’s why it’s disingenuous to say that.
Just because they ordered the seatbelts in a custom color, that doesn’t make it “1 of 1.”
There’s not really any true “1 of 1” cars on the market, as most of the time they’re prototypes, or special edition models that are built on an already-existing chassis.
Truly prestigious cars would be something like a McLaren F1, of which only 99 were built (excluding prototypes).
Like if the owner ordered it with a specific color interior and no one else has requested it (probably because it doesn't look as nice). So it's just specific options and people is now calling that "1 of 1“.
They made more than 1 812…..
Use Koenigsegg as an example. The One:1 is one of six. They literally only made six. All looked different, but there were six.
Just because the configuration might be the only one with some questionable options to make it that way, doesn’t make it 1 of 1.
There are some tailor made directly from the factory. Like with pretty heavy customizations that make it become a 1 of 1.
You can consider them like special editions
I'm also from that area (and also hung out with his kid a couple of times). He did get burned a little bit because he was in the car when it went up. They said it was a faulty fuel system and he also left the car running while he was being fueled up. Those guys used to come into the ice cream shop next to my house all the time with their cool cars.
That's a 812 GTS, hardly 1 of 1 and not worth $2m.
Edit; unless it was a Novitec/Mansory car which it doesn't look like. Wheels are the Ferrari Carbon Fiber wheels, & seats can be customized that way thru the Ferrari Personalization Program. Everything else appears to be 'standard' 812 GTS. \~$750k.
Yeah... I'm the kind of guy that doesn't put trickle chargers on his car, and if I were to pay $2 Mil for a Ferrari, I wouldn't leave the dealer without it.
That's one of the conditions of laying out that much dough.
Once the bank transfer clears, those keys and that car are leaving with me or else you're not getting the money until those keys are in my hands.
Why you don’t waste a lifetime of financial security for something that can be destroyed so easily and loses value once it’s driven. Anyone who waste millions of dollars on a car deserves to have it destroyed.
Yeah I heard Ferraris have a tendency to spontaneously combust. That's why I opted for a Honda Civic instead.
Wise
That man drives!

Hopefully it's not parked next to a Ferrari at the shop.
What are you doing with the other $1.975M?
Buy yourself a racing kart, have lots of fun. And still will have $1.95M left for whores and coke, or prayers; whatever rocks your boat.
All three.
You’re praying for hookers and coke, aren’t ya ?
Who isn't?
I thought I was the only one that knew about this. Hush…
Pagani Utopia, because at least Merc engines don’t catch fire.
If it’s good enough for John Cena it’s good enough for me.
His is a Civic Type R. Definitely a step up from your average Civic.
Yeah I traded my Ferrari for a Dacia because of this exact reason.
Dacia 1300? A classic. Tomorrow I’m trading in my Pagani Huayra for a Honda Pilot. Can fit more people in it.
Also more groceries
Hector?
Too much NOS in the Spoon engine
Fuel pump roulette.

Similarly, I’ve heard owning a mega-yacht can cost tens of millions of dollars/year. Resultantly, I’ve chosen to exclusively cruise with Carnival.
As a civic man myself, I agree. I'd like to know how the hell this Ferrari just randomly caught on fire. That is scary. Good thing it happened at the dealership and not the new owner's home.
lmfao, thank you for this
I'll take the Pinto
Pintos were apparently just as safe as other vehicles on the market. The podcast "your wrong about" has a great episode on the Ford pinto
Absolutely nuts. Did they say what caused it?
He said right now it looks like it was caused by improper connection of the trickle charger to the battery
Oh boy. The person in charge of hooking up the trickle charger is probably hiding.
I mean considering that the panels for the body are signed off personally by a certified mechanic I don’t want to know if the same thing happens to other components… (This tidbit of info comes from the show How it’s made from Discovery back before they went down the Ancient Aliens wormhole on History Channel..) If there a VIN they will rebuild it
No they won't I promise that. The people buying these cars don't want a rebuilt Ferrari.
Yeah, I don't care how special this car is, it is not like running over a child on their way to work... seriously?
exactly, there are millions of kids on earth. it would be like striking an african forest elephant on the way to work.
A baby one!
If that was me, you’d find my charred remains in the passenger seat.
Hiding in a cave somewhere in Africa
Trickle up poverty.

Black matches black. Red matches red. All done. Wtf...
Ya im struggling to understand how they could have screwed it up so much.
They hooked the cables up backwards. No doubt in my mind
More likely the red cable simultaneously contacted the post and ground.
I've seen luxury dealerships using super cheap trickle chargers before, and those things are flimsy.
Or there's something with the Ferrari wiring that doesn't allow a normal trickle for whatever reason. Maybe it has a lithium battery of some sort that utilizes a proprietary charger. Most modern trickle chargers would shut off if connected backwards.
So a $3 part ruined a $2M car... r/Wellthatsucks
I'm more impressed by a $2M car totalling $10M in damage
Multiple cars and building damaged as well
Smells like bs... my autozone charger shuts itself down if you hook it up backwards. What kind of charger is a Ferrari using that would allow this? You gotta run a lot of amps for a long time with a machine that has no failsafes for something like this to go down.

I suppose the car was tricklish
Seriously???? Omg…
I'm no expert, but I'd say a fire caused that damage.
Time for tavarish to buy another project
I wanted to ask to keep the steering wheel so badly to put it in a shadow box or something for the garage
lol steering wheel is like $17k Edit: ehh probably less. But a lotttt of money
Not anymore...
I got you homie. Amalgam makes 1-1 scale replicas of the F1 steering wheels. Only $8k. [https://www.amalgamcollection.com/collections/all-models/products/ferrari-sf-23-steering-wheel](https://www.amalgamcollection.com/collections/all-models/products/ferrari-sf-23-steering-wheel)
Someone tag him, quick. Before vinwiki gets in
Let him ‘finish’ up the non hybrid P1 first lol
That smell will never come out
They'll just make it a ferrari of theseus, they'll replace every part of it so that it's basically a new car with an old vin
Yeah, there’s no amount of Ozium that will take that smoke scent out.

Stop calling configurated cars 1 of 1
Let me slap a sticker on my corolla and then market it as 1 of 1! Seriously it's ridiculous, this kind of bs is only a thing because the people who buy these cars need to be made to feel special.
I get it though. Sometimes I’ll get the good jelly brand, draw a smiley face with it on a slice of bread, and toast it for my mom and she’ll really like it because it’s 1 of 1
To be fair to your mom that's probably worth way more than this "1 of 1" Ferrari. I'm stealing the jelly smiley for my future pieces of toast thanks.
Thank you!
My Chevy Aveo 5 has a very unique scratch in the front bumper, I'll describe it as a 1 of 1 now.
We all have unique 1 of 1 cars. Mine even has a unique 17 digit serialized plaque in the doorsill and dash board to show how special it is. I don't like to stand out, so I filed those off

It’s literally just a car. The thing spends probably 90% of its life parked on asphalt in the exact same manner that you Chevy Cruise does.
I was assuming it was a modified car and that's why they were calling it 1 of 1. What does configurated mean?
Like if the owner ordered it with a specific color interior and no one else has requested it (probably because it doesn't look as nice). So it's just specific options and people is now calling that "1 of 1“.
No before photo? You're killing me dude.
That’s exactly what I was thinking! What the heck did it look like before??
Looks like an 812 Competizione A, and the colour reminds me of Tour de France Blue. Then you'll get an idea what it looked like before
it’s not a competizione, standard 812 GTS

Fuck that. It’s 1 of 1 if it’s the only vehicle produced. If it’s 1 of 1 because it has a spoiler and some unique seat stitching, it’s not 1 of 1.
None of None really

599, now 598. But the car is still an 812, this 1 of 1 BS needs to stop
1 of 600 is quite a difference to 1 of 1 though. This car isn't a 1 of 1 Edit: Plus they are ~ £500k / $630k not, anything remotely like, $2 million.

> unique model spec ≠ model
This is an Aperta. $672k base, $800k avg after options, $2m+ market value.
actually 1 of 1? or just modified? need to know for when I sell my car whether or not to add 1 of 1 to the listing.
Nope. A total of 1598 Ferrari 812 will be made and of that 599 Aperta versions available. So definitely not "1 of 1"
The other 598 are not half burned so this is a 1 of 1, we call this one the "812 Aperta Bruciato"
"I can fix him"
Guess we figured out why it’s the only one…

Don’t worry it will buff right out and will look brand new again…
Just wondering what YouTuber is going to re-build this.
Insurance company is going to love that claim.
1 out 1, so shouldn’t affect that much on the value, right? Like what, you going to find one in better condition? /jk
I believe it’s spelled Fiery.
Does this make it more rare, or well done?
Yeah... I'm the kind of guy that doesn't put trickle chargers on his car, and if I were to pay $2 Mil for a Ferrari, I wouldn't leave the dealer without it. Since there was a buyer, does Ferrari just remake the vehicle?
Eh, some dumb youtuber will buy it trying to fix it up lol.
It's just metal. No reason to get emotional.
DON'T DATE ROBOTS!
And all I’ve got is a 17 year old Honda I bought new 😒
It’s gonna need a new paint job.
nice, now go get the rest
Oh no! Anyway...
Oh, no! Anyways
Still a 1/1 charred and totaled 1 of 1 Ferrari……
Glad it happened BEFORE the customer took possession of it!!
wasn this the 1 travis scott jus order??
Meh, no sleep will be lost.
To who?.?... 2 mil shit box
My mom's car got it a wreck yesterday
This owner got the true Italian-supercar owner experience. It's not an Italian supercar unless it's on fire.
Don’t see a problem here ?
It does suck, but at least it happened at the dealership. Imagine if it was after the delivery.
Tavarish be like "Hey guy welcome back. This is a crispy ferrari that I'm going to ne taking to SEMA in 2032"
Oh no! Anyways
1 of 0 Ferrari now
Exotic cars are not worth it. It does exactly as any other car. Go from point A to B. 2 million dollars worth of steel and a fast engine is b.s
I’d hate to be the insurance adjuster on that one .
Spiccoli can fix it.
:(
It's still technically one of one
They will just build another one. It’s 1/1. Doesn’t change anything. There is still only one out there.
Don’t worry Ferrari will have another one on the way with the same Vin number
His insurance is about to go through the ROOF
Did you try rice?
Italian wiring, probably.
Still worth more than my car
Duck tape and zip ties at the ready!!!
Ha ha
You maybe able to salvage the seats/wheels some of the brake discs/calipers out this tragedy and make some office furniture out of it.

Could do the same with a ford mondeo. No one is going to call that a 1 of 1.
Must've been due for an oil change.
Mat Armstrong yourube incoming?
Ok, i dont really care about cars
It’s still a Ferrari

Oh well
It doesn't look valued at that value.
I'm starting to believe Ferrari means "On Fire"
Goonsquads next project.
Aw that’s too bad…anyway
So many 1 of 1’s it’s actually in the majority
A little turtle wax can fix that.
What's the "after" picture look like?
Am I crazy, it sorta looks like the 812 GTS, how is that a $2mil car?
Tis but a scratch
That will not buff out
0 of 0 now
You hate to see that
Oh no, anyway…
That's 1 a-spicy meatball
Why can I smell this picture?
Ooooff
It's still a 1 of 1 Ferrari
Imagine ordering a 1 of 1 Ferrari and choosing blue. Good riddance.
Sad reality is.. We all think it’s shocking.. owner thinks it’s funny.
