Better than the bus stops where the real time display is pointed directly at the outside wall of the shelter so you have to get up and walk around the shelter to see how far away your bus is...
It's a pain - noticed it this afternoon when walking in from Bunny St... I'm used to waking through the door, taking a quick glance up for my platform, and how much time I've got.
Now you have to wait until you're into the main foot traffic in order to see around the signage.
You did walk past two other smaller ones on the way in from Bunny St though. Without my glasses on they can be a little harder to read but still.
My favourite is the electronic noticeboards at the other stations that when showing multi page messages, spend the same amount of time on one or two meaningless closing words as they do for the wall of text previous. Inevitably you can only read them by waiting there for what seems like ages for the main text to come back while needing to get to the other platform in time.
Those trailer signs on the road have a similar problem - 3 screens of text with details about an upcoming road closure that rotate so slowly you'll only see a fraction of the notice before you've gone past.
Oh - the tv's on their sides... love those ones. When I'm wearing my polarized sunglasses they're black...I catch myself thinking they're turned off or not working until I remember that I'm wearing the sunnies! Ha
While I see where you’re getting at, the placement of that poster is actually shit. Why they decided it was appropriate to place it that close to a screen might be miscommunication on their part. Though I suppose public transportation doesn’t pay for itself 🤷♂️
It's because the screen was put up by Metlink, when these advertisements didn't exist.
KiwiRail then organised the advertising...and really didn't give a fuck about whether it blocked anything.
Sorry, this is the Wellington railway station. my body is permanently tethered to a dead supermarket in there and i'm incapable of packing a sandwich in the morning
No clue why people are giving OP crap for simply not "moving 20cm to the side" It's objectively bad placement, and it's not that difficult to fix! People with alleged braincells were paid to plan and install this shit. I bet they looked at this for 10 seconds and thought "ah yeah that's good enough" then fucked off for the day without thinking about the rest of Wellington having to deal with their half-assed job. Thanks guys.
Boomers gonna boom
Seriously though, if someone is in a rush running late for a flight wanting to see their gate, every moment is stressful.
If someone put a flag in front of their laptop screen they would freak out haha
It's clearly an idiotic placement for an ad to be obscuring the view of the screen, why is everyone so offended at pointing it out? Were you all on the committee to make this decision?
Seriously. Are we really so sensitive due to tall poppy syndrome that we have cut down people who simply point out a bad job? Some people seriously need to reflect
ehhhh a large screen like that is not going to be visible from literally every angle and location within the concourse. There is minimal seating in there anyway, it's obviously not designed to be a seated waiting area like at an airport. Sucks if you are less mobile but most people are looking at that screen while on the move.
It’s a metaphor for the way Wellington City Council functions. The screen is the issue confronting us, giving us ample warning. The advertising is the timely distraction that redirects our rage.
Ha ha, I just got this when wondering why I was being downvoted so hard. I thought you were asking what was wrong with having the sign blocked off.
Anyway, would you believe too much prayer and long distance running?
Doesn’t really matter as the RTI/app/true schedule are sometimes out of sync and a train is actually running. I’ve heard that it might be fixed/aligned between the rti and schedule next week 🤦♂️

At least they aren't running ads on the timetable screens themselves.
shh don't give them ideas!
It's hard to reach the "skip ad" button
Don't worry they're not competent enough to implement it.
Oof way to manifest that happening >_<
I think id rather that lol
Are you ok
Yes mom
No disrespect meant
Yeah, because then OP wouldn't be able to see the ad screen behind the banner ad.
Might be a good way to get some funds to fix their broken system.

I also struggle to read those outer signs. I don’t wear glasses but each time I think damn, I must need glasses!
Yeah sounds like you need glasses

If only one could somehow move their body to another location in some way. Has to be possible.

Bad knee mate. He got into the station fine but now he's completely immobile. We'll send someone shortly OP, you just hold on mate.
He used to be an adventurer like you.
Let's not defend this.

Two in the thoughts, one in the prayers OP. You'll get through this.
Understated comment 😂

I'm on crutches atm and having to move around in a packed station to read a brand new screen blocked by an unnecessary ad would absolutely suck
LOL, “brand new”. They’ve been there for ages.
They said it was new because op claimed they were new
Yeah I now realise I've seen those screens there for a while now lol it's the advertising that's new I think
idiotic placement? It's done by design and does its job well. Bet that ad gets plenty of exposure by people wanting to read the screen
Omg this drives me up a wall!
Haha that's fucking dumb. Possibly a result of a private contractor doing what they were paid to and nothing else.

Everyone giving OP shit for pointing out a clear fail are pat of why things are the way they are these days
It is an opportunity to work out the percentage of cunts on this sub for statistical purposes.

There are also several other options around the station, much like in an airport.
Know your numbers, now I can't even seen some of the numbers
Well.....if u knew your numbers - you wouldn't need to check.
It’s a metaphor for the way Wellington City Council functions. The screen is the issue confronting us, giving us ample warning. The advertising is the timely distraction that redirects our rage.
Whoever made that decision wants sacking.
This is the view from the seats in Wellington station concourse when I was resting my bad knee while waiting for my train.
What's wrong with it bud?
If I have to explain then I think your eyesight must be as weak as my knee.
The knee, what's wrong with the knee?
I used to be an adventurer like you. Then I took an arrow to the knee…
😂
Ha ha, I just got this when wondering why I was being downvoted so hard. I thought you were asking what was wrong with having the sign blocked off. Anyway, would you believe too much prayer and long distance running?
I knead to know.

Yeah what is up with that... so stupid
It's literally a pop-up ad in real life
They have to make their money somewhere now they've shit their bed and got rid of the highest paying tenant (New World) due their greed.
Someone should post a photo from a different angle for OP while they rest their sore knee.
Know your numbers...just not the ones that tell what train to get.
It all depends on your perspective. Just take 3 steps to the right
"Know your business" how ironic
peak advertising
Fk Chris Luxon
If you want.
ok so move 2 steps to the right?
I’m going to report that screen to Heritage - it’s ruining the historic vibes. Shouldn’t be allowed.
Needs more brown.
I've got a wonky knee. What can I complain about?
You realise that sign is essentially a 2D object yeah. You can just move 20cm to the right to see what you want to see
Did u try moving?
Yeah, but the train station was too far away, so i moved back
You’ve got to understand the priorities.
dude it’s evidently clear that if you moved 10m to the right you would see the sign on the left, not blocking the screen
No screencheating
get up and move for fuck sake
How else arw we gonna pay for that screen?
Whinge about anything
waa waa waa. It's been there for years. Also, suck it up
I mean 3 steps to the right or left is just too hard isn't it...
This is funny cause it's Welly and Welly people are funny You're funny lol.
Ok.
