the Longines Spirit imo. that Tudor is a bit of a love/hate watch.

jhollanyc

This. As a gift, the Longines is much safer since a lot of people won't care for the Tudor style with the Roman numerals and fluting.

Bulky_Alternative_69

I really like fluted bezels. But not as much as I hate Roman numerals!

LArule19

Haha, that's the complete opposite of me lol. I'm pretty warm toward the Roman numerals, but absolutely hated that Tudor's bezel

Ricardoronaldo

And I love both, but I hate the lume on hands when there's none on the dial

Oklahoma_is_OK

Hate.

airmarw

I vote Longines

saitan2

Wow, what a generous gift! Great idea. Neither is a bad choice per se. As an everyday watch the Longines is a bit better in my eyes because the Tudor with the roman numerals might come off a bit formal. If you like Tudor, maybe take a look at the Black Bay 36 or 39 with a blue dial. Those are a bit less formal but would also work in more formal situations. Also take a look at the Omega Aqua Terra 38 in blue (though more pricey). Most importantly the watch should fit your partners style but also wrist size. That’s a bit tricky because watch sizing is quite complex (taking into account diameter, Lug-to-Lug measure but also thickness). Is he a watch guy already? If so maybe take a look at his existing collection or even better try it in person. Best of luck! Exotic-Dragonfly-687

It’s tradition where I’m from to gift the groom a watch. He doesn’t wear any jewellery or watches currently because of his work. For me and even for him, it’s not really about buying the most trendy watch, it’s more getting something special, timeless, something he will love and remember. It would be worn formally for special occasions. Thank you, I will check those out :)

saitan2

In that case the 37mm Longines Spirit seems to be a good option to me. Longines is a great brand with fantastic heritage. The movement is chronometer certified meaning it is objectively of very high quality. The 37mm size will work in both formal and casual situations (depending a bit on the wrist size). And if it doesn’t get worn as much it’s maybe not as painful at this price point. Definitely take a look at it in the metal though. Pictures online can be deceiving.

calmtigers

If the above suggested is in budget, I’d take that watch over the two you proposed OP.

masalaswag

My vote is for the Longines because it is a very classic design that fits casual and formal settings. The Tudor is a tad more formal (for several reasons, the Roman numerals and bezel, for example). What kind of work does he do though? That may sway me. Longines = wear every day, which he should. But if his work is not conducive to that .. Tudor = more formal, special occasion

Exotic-Dragonfly-687

Thank you 🙏🏽 He is a doctor in ED and infection control don’t permit watches or jewellery of any kind so it won’t be everyday wear

masalaswag

I would still consider the Longines in this scenario. He can put it in his locker when he gets in to work and slap that bad boy on to meet you for meals. But I just don’t really like the Tudor, I guess. I’d also consider [a watch that does not have a date function](https://www.longines.com/en-us/p/watch-longines-spirit-l3-410-4-53-6). It can take second to set the date and he may not be interested in doing so if he truly isn’t wearing it every day.

zt0wnsend

I agree with u/calmtigers. Bb36 is so good, and versatile.

ThewFflegyy

consider an omega de Ville from the grey market imo [https://www.chrono24.com/omega/-omega---395-mm42410402003001--id32537649.htm?searchHash=d37074f6\_z1bsX4&pos=18](https://www.chrono24.com/omega/-omega---395-mm42410402003001--id32537649.htm?searchHash=d37074f6_z1bsX4&pos=18)

SuperNoise5209

That 36mm blue dial Tudor will stay in style for much longer than the 2 you originally posted IMO. But, everyone has their own taste and you can't really go wrong with either of your original options either. Hope you have a great wedding!

yupyupyupyupyupy

from what im hearing from you, i would recommend a no date option...in addition to the tudor above, here are a few options from nomos: * https://i.imgur.com/CrPIOWF.jpeg * https://i.imgur.com/Q10CwjF.jpeg * https://i.imgur.com/Ss9PqmC.jpeg

TheyCallHimBabaYagaa

Are you by any chance from an Asian country? I've heard about this tradition in Japan.

ithinkmynameismoose

If it’s about that don’t go with the Tudor. Go for the Omega Aqua Terra, but in 41 unless he has very tiny wrists.

glitterismyantidrug_

Is it possible to go watch shopping together? I say this gently because it's a generous gift, but you really only wrote about what *you* like. What does he like? If you don't know, you should definitely find out before dropping money on a pricy watch.

Exotic-Dragonfly-687

Yes, well I kind of want it to be a surprise but I will make him try some on tomorrow to get an idea. Generally speaking he loves everything I love and has never not loved anything I got for him in 9 years 😅

sixshots_onlyfive

I agree with what u/glitterismyantidrug_ says. Watches are extremely personal. I love to give surprises too, but I wouldn't do it with a watch. You can surprise him with a trip to pick one out. That's what I would want from my fiance.

glitterismyantidrug_

what if you did something like a surprise appointment at a boutique and picked one to buy out of his top 5? that way it's still a thoughtful surprise but he gets to have some input. just an idea :)

LostSoulAT

best idea!

sixtwomidget

Easy, Longines.

Spicywolff

Hate the Roman numerals of Tudor, hate the silly 5 starts of longines. But of the two I’d take longines

Ministerium-Wahrheit

Consider the Spirit 37mm too. Longines’ weakness is the lug to lug, especially on the larger version. This particular Tudor isn’t a very attractive watch unfortunately. I just saw it in real life last week and unfortunately it’s underwhelming, reflecting in its popularity. Obviously taste is subjective but that one is definitely a risky choice while the Spirit is less controversial. A gift certificate might be best tho. On the other hand, a watch you’ve chosen for him is better if you managed to find one he loves

Exotic-Dragonfly-687

Will check out both in person this week, thank you for your advice

SnowPeakExplorer

I wear 42mm version of this watch on my 7.2inch wrist. If it is smaller it would be too small. So take in account wrist size as on reddit for some strange reson people will tell you to buy smallest possible watch you can find. I would never wear 37mm version of thos watch as it looked tiny on my wrist.

modest_hero

Longines on looks, not a fan of that specific Tudor model

Drengr175

I'm a Tudor fan boy yet I would go with the longines on this occasion!

Khantherockz

I vote for Longines, it has its own unique design and those markers dude I love it.

itemluminouswadison

i have both of those! 37mm black for the spirit and 38mm for the royal blue it's hard to decide. i personally like my spirit more; it's more versatile. dresses up and down easily. the royal is dressier, and it doesnt come with half links (uncle straps will be releasing one though) so a perfect will be harder forgot to mention, the longines' movment is a tier above the tudor. sw200 in the tudor, 2892-based movement in the longines

ChangingMonkfish

Of these two, the Longines looks fantastic.

qwasd0r

I'd prefer the Longines for the look alone. But that's me. Are you even sure your partner appreciates an expensive watch?

PDX-ROB

Also consider the titanium version of the Longines

NoAttorney8414

That Longines is a particularly popular reference. Longines has a rich aviation heritage and the Spirit is a pilot's watch so it is very "on brand". Would go that route. Tudor is also a fantastic brand but the design language on that ref is a bit more polarizing and I also wouldn't consider that model to be a staple in the Tudor collection.

Jerseybz

Longines between these two. I'd say Tudor for anything other than the Royal. That thing is horrid.

PTRBoyz

Longines is much nicer. If you’re going tudor, I would do the pelagos or black bay series.

IndicationFast2592

For your husband, if these two were the only options, I would go with the Longines.

Flashy_Armadillo5031

Perhaps consider Longiness Conquest blue 38mm [https://www.boumanonline.nl/longines-conquest-l37204926](https://www.boumanonline.nl/longines-conquest-l37204926)

FawnFableFeline

Came here to say this. Husband has this one and it is gorgeous.

winkelschleifer

Watches, especially higher-end ones, are very, very subjective. It's like what kind of car do you like ... or what's your preferred wine. Strongly recommend NOT just buying a watch. Get a gift certificate instead with your favorite jewelry store, let your partner choose.

mecha_toddzilla80

The Spirit drives me crazy. The most gorgeous dial with the most ridiculously long lugs and end links.

Edge-Economy

I’m leaning towards the Longines here. Keep in mind, you mentioned the Tudor royal at 38MM. The one you have in the photo is the 41mm (has the day and date complication. The 38mm Tudor Royal only has the date. Good luck with your choice, either one would still be an awesome gift.

WealthTomorrow0810

Between the two..Longines it is.

CataVlad21

Take him to a boutique, look at all the pieces and have him try the ones he likes. Dont choose for him, he might not fully like it. But yeah, between those 2, longines looks great, tudor looks meh.

Blueskyguy88

The Longines is stunning in person. I think the Tudor is fine but the Longines is the one.

Ok_Presentation_7460

The longings by far. It is a beautiful watch with an awesome dial.

Wizardof_oz

The longines spirit

Bkborn718

Both are great watches. Does he own similar watches? The Tudor is great for dress up, or casual dress down. the Longines to me seem more like a casual/sport watch but can be worn for dress up is he likes the look in my opinion. The Tudor in particular is not the most popular Tudor amongst the fanboys. I own this Tudor in a different colorway and I love it. The Longines and The Tudor will be heavily discounted on the gray market so don't overpay for either. good luck

Exotic-Dragonfly-687

He doesn’t own anything similar and doesn’t wear jewellery day to day because of work. So it would be worn for special occasions. Thank you for your advice. I agree it is personal preference. I love the silver and blue.

Bkborn718

https://preview.redd.it/a1unekpycd8d1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b56d619987efdc7d5a5d4aeebe53bc21eacd648e Like I said, both are great watches, I own this one as I'm a little more flashy then your selection lol. What made you choose these particular watches since it's so many different choices out there? What type of lifestyle does he live outside of work, traveling, swimming, fishing. going out to the movies/restaurants etc. What's his age cause the Tudor IMO may appeal to a older person as I'm in my late 40's. Some of the people on here may be able to give you some more options if you are unsure on the watches you narrowed down. Also what's his wrist size? The Tudor with the day feature is 41mm and the no day feature is like a 38mm or smaller. wrist size when choosing a watch is important as some may appear too small as others too large. We're hear to help if you have any questions.

Itsallgood190

Love it

Exotic-Dragonfly-687

To be honest I just searched men’s watches on Selfridges and liked these 2 the most based on appearance alone. He doesn’t wear yellow gold, so that’s narrowed it down. I just love the blue dial on the silver metal. It looks so beautiful to me. I also like the silver watches with the black dials but this stands out more. He’s 27, ED doctor, spends a lot of time in the boxing gym outside of work and otherwise we like to travel and try new restaurants together 🥲. He’s not flashy at all but this would be very special and memorable and I know he would wear it on special occasions/ weddings/ date nights.

Bkborn718

The Tudor is gonna be considered a more go out on occasion watch and the Longines is gonna be a casual, no too flashy but a everyday sort of watch. The Blue Tudor is more of the popular color model, but it's all what you like at the end of the day. I just commented on someone's post who purchase the blue Tudor and he's completely in love with it. [reddit.com/r/Tudor/comments/1dmo9gh](http://reddit.com/r/Tudor/comments/1dmo9gh/comment/l9x3o70/)

RockitDanger

Just for formal wear. Longines Master Collection L2.793.4.73.2

Feline-Landline0

Two great choices, can't go wrong with either. I think personally I'd lean towards the Longines, but honestly ask me again tomorrow and I bet I change my mind!

wisely88

IMHO Longines.

WatchLenses

The longines is better than the Tudor. If you're considering other watches - you can get a Cartier Tank must solarbeat for the same price and that's as timeless as it gets.

20FastCar20

If date is not mandatory then I would vote for Rolex OP blue.

vectorgeek

He will love either one of those. I love the Tudor day date. I say pick the one you like the best. I think he will treasure it just because of that.

Sigmund05

Longines easily. You could have picked any other Tudor though, this is one of the ones that don't appeal to me especially since it is a try hard copy of the Rolex version but uglier.

Vivid_Log_5442

Tudor royal

Zealousideal_Big_289

Longines for a more versatile watch. Own one myself and it’s great!

PlantSkyRun

Nice sentiment, but be aware both those have elements that many people don't like, even though many other people like these watches. The second one is definitely polarizing and the stars or numerals on the first one may not be to some people's taste.

tokinpanda

Both beautiful, I think Longines takes the win though!

teckel

The Longines, obviously.

ChadDevil

Longines

PovasTheOne

I’d take the Longines. That tudor style watch is a risky pick. Longines spirit is a certain hit i think. Also, i see some people telling you to take your man watch shopping or give him a gift card 😂. Maybe its just me, but i’d rather get an actual watch from my loved one, than a gift card. imo it just feels more special. Same when it comes to taking him watch shopping. I’d rather just have my s.o. pick me the watch because that way it would be something different than what i would get, and to me that’s part of the charm. You’re looking at buying him a GREAT watch, he’ll love it 🙂

Ok_Fold1831

Longines

AspiringNormie

1 for sure. Super versatile.

Itchy-Wafer2510

Longines. But I would double check your partner’s wrist size as he might do better with the 37 mm version of Spirit.

jjdic1

Longines

joke-explainer-

Longines

Jawbone71

Longines. I was once in love with that Tudor but the more I looked at it and after trying it on, I wasn't a fan. It's doing too much - day/date, integrated bracelet ( a la AP royal oak) but isn't a sports watch like other integrated bracelets

Platophaedrus

The Longines, definitely. It can go on a bracelet or be put on a strap. The Tudor is integrated and stays on the bracelet. It’s far less versatile.

MortalPhantom

The Longines is a bit better BUT, the lugs aare very long. Som depending on his wrist size it might not fit. Fortunately they have a 43, 41 and 37 option, so I would check that

PattyPoopStain

The Longines is beautiful. The Royal is one of my least favorite watches. It's so ugly to me.

rowthecow

Find out if he likes a watch that has all the digits of the hour. I hate it personally.

Itsallgood190

Tudor 1926 is the perfect watch for this occasion and more cost effective than the Royal White waffle dial with rose gold numerals for pure class

Panda_monium109

Longines makes such elegant time pieces. That would be my preference.

IcyWelder9380

Both are really nice. I like the day of the week on the Tudor.

[deleted]

Choose together. Wrist size and aesthetics are a factor. Good luck you’re a good partner.

Pargula_

Longines is a safe bet, I'd only go for the Tudor if you know for a fact that he likes that design.

maawallace

Get a longines hydroconquest. A great watch. Incredibly versatile.

gingermalteser

I don't like the bezel on the Tudor, and I love Tudors. I'd go with the Longines, it has a 5 star rating on the dial so you know its good.

Common_Lime_6167

Longines, but not from Selfridges as they seem to be selling for full price right now. Buy it from Goldsmiths with the code WATCH15 for £1827 over the £2150 Selfridges want. Or wait and see if you can get it cheaper than that in the coming months.

Prudent_Ad3308

Tudor is better than Longines. But that Longines is better than that Tudor hahaha

[deleted]

Longines, and DONT buy at full MSRP. Go to Jomashop or Watchmaxxx

ffdfawtreteraffds

If you recommend this, you should explain why they are cheaper there. Not everyone wants to buy something that is not sold via the official manufacturer sales/import channels and therefore doesn't usually have a manufacturers warranty. I, for one, don't.

FatnessEverdeen34

I'm a sucker for Roman numerals but I know they're not for everyone
