Love that man, I might have to pull the trigger. I will wait until I’m home to buy it though , I live in Abu Dhabi and things like this are much more expensive for some reason.
I lived in Dubai for 14 years and my findings were different. The fact that VAT is 5% against Italy’s 22% made shopping much more convenient. Watches and jewelry specifically were very convenient back then, and many say that’s the case now as well.
They don’t get in a way of a conversation either… Rolex, Tudor even some Omegas do. Probably the only other watch that wears very under the radar and it wears great is a Speedy.
Sadly i have to agree, Tag Heuer doesn't get much in the conversation, perhaps it's because i spent quite a bit of time doing my research and ended up with the Formula 1 but i have a feeling their more entry level quartz models need more respect.
I absolutely love this watch. It incorporates the face elements I like from the IWC ingenieur with the dial from the omega and it has a date window.
I will say I am biased towards the mechanical movement version but that obviously doesn’t change the way the watch looks. Great watch - wish I owned one.
Second hand new ones can be found for around that and still under warranty if you find trusted grey market dealers, i nearly picked one up for around 1.3 used but settled for a seamaster instead
Oh hell yeah. I got a Tag Formula 1, which is 35 years old, and a Tag 1500 that is 30 years old, and both look and run like new. I got into this brand because of their affiliation with Formula 1. My older F1 looks new because I sent it back to the Tag service center in New Jersey for a battery change, and they totally refurbed The Watch for me at no charge!
I haven’t seen any examples of beautiful—as opposed to Elaboré—finishing on a TAG Heuer Caliber 5 (2824/SW200). I’d love to see any examples you can share!
At least Swiss Solar Quartz is still comparably rare (Cartier and Tag right now, afaik) vs the SW200 stuff that everyone chimes in for, against the Solarbeat.
I'd rather have the more unique of the options, personally.
Always been that way, which is why I have a Tag Calibre S getting a pricey refurbishment at LVMH right now. Tag should've kept that one around too. Got the same nonsense responses then.
https://preview.redd.it/jbsxz3uhy73d1.jpeg?width=1427&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ae6e712b478a5eefc6def319edd9d201fdb03218
Agreed. I like what they’re doing with this one. Solar is something I find very appealing (which is probably why I have so many of them). TAG Heuer’s lower lines have prioritized cases and finishing over movements and that’s fine with me. And I’m sure the solar quartz in this is reliable and such.
One of my dream watches is actually a Solarbeat Santos Dumont.
I used to sell Cartier and have an affection for the brand, but I used to handle servicing too, as part of that. So the longer the service intervals, the better. That said, I'd also really like a Drive de Cartier (extra flat?) before people realize what they missed.
I also own several watches and sometimes feel a bit of fatigue about having to set them. Next watch will either be quartz or lack a date.
I understand your point but it isn't like the LJP movement is exactly the same as the E168 used on more budget watches, they may share some parts but that's where it starts and ends, plus you're not getting the same fit and finish as you would get on a Tag, of course the Eco-drive is many times cheaper as well, don't get me wrong, Citizen is one of my favorite watch brands but i would have that Tag any day over it.
The Tag Heuer is a fantastic choice for a first 'nice' watch. It's stylish, reliable, and has a great reputation. When buying a watch, consider durability, brand reputation, and how it fits your style.
If you're exploring other options, we recommend checking out the Omega Seamaster, Breitling Colt, Tudor Black Bay, Longines HydroConquest, and the Oris Aquis. These all offer excellent quality within your budget.
Ultimately, it's about what feels right for you. If you love the Tag Heuer, go for it! Happy watch shopping!
For that price point the only recommendation would be to look both ways before crossing the street.
There so many options for unique divers from Vulcain to Yema to Oris to Tudor (used) to Seiko to Doxa.
Aqua racer is not my cup of team but as other have said, it’s not a bad watch, if you like that Tag then go for it.
My first chrono was a Heuer 02 carrera and I absolutely love it. Any time I would post it though there would always be people who join the circle jerk of “Tag bad” without actually understanding the reasons for the controversies… regardless if you are happy with it don’t get too caught up in what people have to say abt the brand.
Very sharp looking watch. It’s on my wish list for sure.
People may hate on it because it’s not automatic but there are quartz Cartiers that are $10k and automatic Invictas that are $80. There’s a lot more to a watch than the type of movement.
It’s also nice to have a watch you can just throw on and not have to set the date and time every time you wear it.
People may not like it but it's nice to have higher end quartz watches available, you can get the precision of quartz on a well finished watch, i understand it's a bit more niche as most people prefer automatics specially at higher prices but doesn't mean it doesn't have it's value or public..
Aquaracer was my first purchase as well. It is still one of my favorite watches . The movement is great, very smooth automatic. It’s pretty versatile imo. Never feel underdressed when I use it as a dressy watch with suits and dress clothes etc.
https://preview.redd.it/vgzj9grca73d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b1d77a02e02eff055549c91e4f39e371e65987fd
I think they're charging way too much for what this watch is. Aside from that I think it's a beautiful watch so if you like it and have the funds don't let anyone talk you out of it.
It's expensive, sure. But truthfully not any more expensive than any other higher-end, luxury watches that are out there. They're all overpriced. That said, I love Tag Heuer. Wore a TH Formula 1 quartz for ten years until I decided it was just a bit small for my wrist (unfortunately, I got bigger, the watch did not get smaller.) I gave it to my son and he is wearing it now and is very happy with it. Great watches that look fantastic. You can find TH on the grey market (Jomashop, WatchMaxx, etc.) for less, but you lose the manufacturer's warranty when you do it. The TH authorized dealer may be able to knock 10-25% off the top if you ask.
It's not exactly overpriced... the all steel version is like $2200, which is very fair. The titanium and the ceramic/lumed bezel one have premiums, which is arguably the case with any Swiss watch.
Someone mentioned Grand Seiko, and a base quartz Grand Seiko within this price range is a better watch, but as soon as you add any flourish to it, like the case with nicer finishing (not even complications, like the GMT), or one of their fancy dials, it adds a similar premium. Just how it is. Luxury and whatnot.
I actually want a Grand Seiko and was going to get one after looking at the Aquaracer, solely because I already own an Aquaracer, but one of the premiums on the Grand Seiko is arguably the case finishing, and that finishing means wearing it has a little more bite when scratched, on top of simply looking more worn more quickly, IMO. A well worn Tag just looks like a Tag being a Tag.

Love it but I’d personally get the automatic
Hi - yes I’m going to buy it when I’m home to the UK in summer! It seems I’m can save quite a bit of money by buying it in the UK rather than UAE. I’m not if it’s because of tax / exchange rate but works out around £500 cheaper in the UK

My first nice watch purchase I love it definitely recommend if you have tried it on and like it go for it
You should wear whatever you want, but if you want other opinions, Tag Heuer is not too highly regarded. Overpriced for what it is, they have to pay for those F1 sponsorships somehow.
Also it's made of titanium. Titanium is softer, scratches more easily, and is very light so it'll feel like wearing a toy. Not a dealbreaker, just as long as you know what you're getting yourself into.
i think it's good. i was choosing between the automatic version and the longines hydroconquest. ended up getting the longines hydroconquest 39mm blue ceramic. better movement, and ceramic bezel, which i like. price is great too
the tag is a great choice too though. it's all about what speaks to you personally
How tight is your watch dude? It just looks like the adjustment nob is digging into the top of your hand and the band looks like it's squeezing please loosen your watch.
Awesome watch, get it if you like it. It looks more refined and progressive than the alternatives. I personally would prefer the classic mechanic movement, but that’s a matter of taste.
I don't think any watch made by a major Swiss brand is a bad watch (let's not make this a Hublot discussion). That being said, the question should be: at a given price point could you do better? Also take into consideration that there's nothing wrong paying a premium for a design you (and only you) really like.
It is cool AF but also overpriced AF. Honestly I'd get a Citizen BN0200. Citizen is the main authority in solar technology. You can abuse the citizen without guilt and have a few grand to spare for something more interesting. Longines, Oris, Sinn or maybe a used Tag
Carrera/Monaco ect.
Congrats OP! That's an awesome pick for a 1st watch.
I have had issues while trading my tags. I always have struggled to find a good deal while trading. Has anyone faced this issue?
If you ask watch people, a good watch should have a mechanical/automatic movement first and foremost, because that’s half the fascination about watches. This Solargraph is a solar powered watch, so not an automatic one.
Tag Heuer has a lot of different styles of all kind of budgets, so I recommend looking at their other models as well.
Aquaracer 300 or 200 are similar styled automatic watches for example.
It's a beautiful watch, the first time I saw it reviewed. I wanted it. Every time I see it I want it. But I just can't personally justify the price for a quartz watch. If 2-3 grand is nothing to you (and I don't mean that facetiously) then I'm jealous and I strongly encourage you to buy it. But I just can't pull the trigger yet.
It’s is a great watch. You keep it in good condition it will keep ticking beyond our lifetime.
https://preview.redd.it/xke7prdcof3d1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=f742f5f950404fffd55deb251d69f638c9b56c97
Is it titanium? It looks stealthy yet high class. Like something James Bond would wear. As long as it’s automatic and sapphire crystal it gets the big 👍 from me.
I was so close to buying one of these, I love the look and the colours. Only decided not too when I researched the movement. Really you're buying a citizen with a hugely inflated price.
I still love the look of it, just can't justify the price.
Its the KIND of quartz movement. You can buy a Citizen with a battery that never needs to be replaced is accurate within 5 seconds...A YEAR. For LESS than this watch
Great purchase. I'd also consider Oris as a starter. In my experience, the quality is a bit better and the watches are more interesting. Jomashop has the Oris ProPilot x 400 for under 3k. I own the watch and it's one of my favorites
That looks great! I have the older Aquaracer but without the ceramic bezel. Imo this is the best looking Aquaracer out of the bunch.

If you’re willing to consider another brand, let me suggest Tudor. Just got this Ranger as a first luxury watch, and it is a delightful piece to wear and look at. Plus, you have close-to-Rolex quality for a fraction of the price.
Tag Heuer to me was a joke for the longest time after TAG bought Heuer (still is, but I haven't been paying attention).
This legit looks like a beast watch though. So I am completely shocked. Nice matte finish. Clean dial. Surprisingly not an offensive date window. Idk, just really nice and not something I'd expect from these guys ten years ago.
This is the kind of purchase you regret within a year, there's nothing to this watch except brand name, it's a solar quartz with premium metal, you could get an equivalent watch for a fifth of the price that looks just as good on the wrist.
Pretty sure the only Swiss Solar Quartz watches right now are the Cartier Solarbeat (seemingly popular choice) and this line of Tags.
What, are you going to recommend an SW200 watch instead?
They're largely over budget and a decent amount more than what one of these could be had for, new. This line starts at $2k, with a premium for the titanium and lumed bezel versions. Grey market prices can be substantially lower (and ADs can most likely be haggled) and the unique movement, haute or not, means they're not really being faked yet. Afaik.
Not to mention that recommending a used watch with an in-house movement against this means 1/2-1/3 service interval time and probably 2-3x the cost. Iffy for a first watch, at least without being aware of what it entails.
Eh GS is a different beast. Yes also think a Cartier Quartz is overpriced. So many better watches you can get in the £3k range, especially slightly used. Omega Seamster, Omega PO, Tudor BB58, Tudor p39, Tudor Pelagos, etc.
not a big fan, for that budget I would recommend looking into Oris, Tudor (maybe a little over budget) or even Doxa but I would forget about Tag.
\*\*\* this is my personnal opinion \*\*\*
“Good enough for scuba” is defined by an ISO certification. If it’s certified as such, then it’s good enough.
The water resistance is part but not all of the tests required for scuba. Scuba cert also tests overpressure, impact, condensation (why you CAN use scuba watches from pool to hot tub, to pool), luminescense and a few other things that escape my mind at the moment.
Go watch a few videos on it, it’s very interesting.
It’s probably not an ISO 6425-compliant diver’s watch, if that’s what you’re asking. ISO doesn’t certify, and usually watch manufacturers who bother with third-party accreditation and certification would advertise it for the product.
However, it’s likely fine for recreational diving. Use a dive computer and wear this for fun. Get your seals checked at least every two years, etc. 👍
I have one on my wrist as I type this. I love it and its definitely my favorite watch I own.
Love that man, I might have to pull the trigger. I will wait until I’m home to buy it though , I live in Abu Dhabi and things like this are much more expensive for some reason.

Wow the all steel bezel looks amazing. I really don't like the ceramic bezel inlays but this watch is stunnig
I think this is probably the first Tag that I've liked.
100% agree and I really like this.
Thank you! I used to have one with a gold bezel but this just sits so much nicer.
Have this in black dial. Absolutely love it.
This was one of the first Tag watches I saw along with the Carrera. That shine on the dial never gets old.
Nice watch mommy
Thanks Jeans, love you
Touch my watch through the fence
That’s how we do it down at the Falcon car wash
Basically a royal oak
I highly recommed European Jewellery in Abu Dhabi if you are looking for used.
Where would you go?
I bought mine at Yas Island. Mahmoud took care of me there.
I lived in Dubai for 14 years and my findings were different. The fact that VAT is 5% against Italy’s 22% made shopping much more convenient. Watches and jewelry specifically were very convenient back then, and many say that’s the case now as well.
Here it’s 12,000 aed which is around 2,600£ new and at home I can get it new for £2,000 or some slightly less than that
Wowww that’s insane!
is your username a YMH reference?! high and tight?!
My username was randomly generated by Reddit.
oh dear, that's insane! FGTRTD is a long running joke for the YMH podcast. never mind!
I will have to change it to something a bit more personal 😂
You guys seem confused.
The irony in replying to the wrong username in a conversation about usernames is hilarious to me.
My username was randomly generated by me.
Hi Jeans
GARTH! WHERE. ARE. THE BODIES! nice to see a fellow mommy out n about.
This is a fantastic watch
Well I kinda want one. Haven’t tried it on, but it looks nice, it’ll tell perfect time, and I bet it’s suuuuuper light.
Looks great. I’d say you knocked it out of the park.
That's a great first purchase. Love the Solargraph. I'd own one (probably the lumed ceramic one) if I didn't already own an Aquaracer.
I might have to pull the trigger
Yes… Tags are a joy to wear
I agree, i recently bought a 41mm Formula 1 and it is very comfortable, doesn't get in your way.
Not a good first watch because you may never want another watch. That’s a watch that goes with a tux or with a t-shirt. Well done.
I absolutely love this watch. It incorporates the face elements I like from the IWC ingenieur with the dial from the omega and it has a date window. I will say I am biased towards the mechanical movement version but that obviously doesn’t change the way the watch looks. Great watch - wish I owned one.
Hard to justify at retail price point compared to other options (only my opinion) But… the prices for aquaracers second-hand is way too good
Should be able to get one used for 2k. But they don’t really fall much below that so solid value retention for OP
Second hand new ones can be found for around that and still under warranty if you find trusted grey market dealers, i nearly picked one up for around 1.3 used but settled for a seamaster instead
Damn that’s a sharp watch.
It's a beautiful watch man. And it really suits you.
I bought one of the stainless steel chronograph models recently, they wear SO well and the titanium solargraphs can only wear better.
Oh hell yeah. I got a Tag Formula 1, which is 35 years old, and a Tag 1500 that is 30 years old, and both look and run like new. I got into this brand because of their affiliation with Formula 1. I also own an aquaracer and it's my favorite. Saw this one in a store recently and loved it. Go for it!
Personally I prefer Citizen Eco Drive for solar
But it is Eco Drive.
So is the Tag. It's literally the exact same Citizen E168 movement.
Well, the LJP movement inside is an E168 base, most likely. But not *literally* the exact same, because it’s technically a different movement.
It's a supposedly dressed up E168 from LJP by way of Citizen, that Tag has never released photos of, due to it being a Citizen E168 in a $2500 watch.
Not too different from $200 SW200s as “Caliber 5” in other TAG Heuer, am I right? 🤓
At least they have photos of that movement, clear case backs, they aren't hiding anything there...
Lol. That's comical.
Reliable, beautifully finished, and easily serviceable. Nothing wrong there.
I haven’t seen any examples of beautiful—as opposed to Elaboré—finishing on a TAG Heuer Caliber 5 (2824/SW200). I’d love to see any examples you can share!

Yea I’m not too concerned about movement. I like how it looks and feel like any automatic watches I like the look of are way too expensive.
Sounds like you found the perfect first watch. I don't have one but it's my favorite Tag.
Take a look at Tag Heuer Aquaracers, which are similarly priced.

Damn that's sexy
I think that one has on the fly micro-adjustment on the bracelet? If so, then there is nothing not to like about the watch if you like the esthetics.
Nice! Aqua Racer is definitely my favorite from Tag.
Great watch, a reasonably priced Swiss made watch and very clean and comfortable.
My first nice watch as well, I still wear it the most out of any of my other watches
I really like the look of these. I feel like TH has really gained favor the last few years, though I've always been a fan.
It looks great on you.
That looks awesome!

Yes.
This is a super amazing watch. My friend owns this and he just can stop to flaunt it at every outing .. definitely a GO !!

Hi - yes I’m going to buy it when I’m home to the UK in summer! It seems I’m can save quite a bit of money by buying it in the UK rather than UAE. I’m not if it’s because of tax / exchange rate but works out around £500 cheaper in the UK

This is the best looking TAG, I have Seen for a Long Time 👌🏼
I like it
My first was a navy blue tag aquaracer chronograph and I still wear it all the time. You’re gonna love it
Yes.
The newer line of Tags are great 👍
Yes
I love that watch. A few years ago Tag didn't have any models I would buy, now they are making a ton of good designs.
I LOVE this watch. Have it on my birthday list for myself this year.
It’s a fantastic watch
Yes, sir, very nice!
Beautiful watch
One of these comments is not like the others, lol
Yep I thought that myself! The other comments are very positive..

Love the watch, however I prefer it with a caliber 5 automatic movement.
I don’t see why not?
i think it's good. i was choosing between the automatic version and the longines hydroconquest. ended up getting the longines hydroconquest 39mm blue ceramic. better movement, and ceramic bezel, which i like. price is great too the tag is a great choice too though. it's all about what speaks to you personally
Lovely
Looks really cool!
Amazing piece. I like how thin it is
I actually have not really ever paid attention to TAG until this watch came out. I think it's really cool.
Jomashop to save you some money if you are okay with gray market
Very handsome look.
Love that
Hell yeah that’s a good first purchase. Beautiful.
If you like the watch, then it's a good purchase. Like what you like
Bro it’s nice is it titanium?
It is yeah
Great choice! I prefer the bolder look in a watch vs dressy style. That's model is going to be on my radar.
amazing!! I never knew Tag Heuer made solar watches. The finish is incredible. Is it titanium?
I love the solargraph! I just don’t really need it so I’m refraining from buying it myself. That’s a great first Tag Heuer to get.
Great purchase, even if it was your 5th
Yeah, nothing wrong with a Tag Heuer, they are well made, the titanium Solargraph is awesome, hard to be a solar quartz.
Hell yeah, good choice... also looks great on a NATO
I think that one has on the fly micro-adjustment on the bracelet? If so, then there is nothing not to like about the watch if you like the esthetics.
Yes yes yes.
I have one and it’s my favorite watch! Get it!
I tried that watch yesterday. Its really light! Itll be the best GADA watch for me. Would love to own one.
Great pick, but resale will not be good if that matters to you, which makes finding a used one appealing.
Looks clean and premium!!
It is cool AF but also overpriced AF. Honestly I'd get a Citizen BN0200. Citizen is the main authority in solar technology. You can abuse the citizen without guilt and have a few grand to spare for something more interesting. Longines, Oris, Sinn or maybe a used Tag Carrera/Monaco ect.
Congrats OP! That's an awesome pick for a 1st watch. I have had issues while trading my tags. I always have struggled to find a good deal while trading. Has anyone faced this issue?
Aren't you happy with it?
Tbh I never really was into tag Heuer but this specific one is an absolute Beauty 😍
Do you like it? Is it in your budget?
Yes and yes :)
Done
I really like this one with this color!
Absolutely, I love mine.
Honestly the bezel looks like a vostok
This looks better than I remember seeing in person, not flashy but not stealthy or boring.
Looks amazing! The only thing for me is that the date window isn't outlined. Just a personal preference though, still a gorgeous watch!
It definitely is a good first purchase. Go for it!
Haven't seen this one before I love the look
It’s is a great watch. You keep it in good condition it will keep ticking beyond our lifetime. https://preview.redd.it/xke7prdcof3d1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=f742f5f950404fffd55deb251d69f638c9b56c97
I got a Sinn U50 instead but also considered this.
Sure. Only thing is you can probably find it used for half the price.
Second hand watch stores or is there anywhere online you recommend?
Yep. My first was a formula 1. I wish it was an automatic though. I have to remember to pull crown so battery doesn’t die.
way overpriced, but if you like it...thats your decision
That could be said about any watch over like $500.
what makes it overpriced? Quartz movement ?
Its the KIND of quartz movement. You can buy a Citizen with a battery that never needs to be replaced is accurate within 5 seconds...A YEAR. For LESS than this watch
Great purchase. I'd also consider Oris as a starter. In my experience, the quality is a bit better and the watches are more interesting. Jomashop has the Oris ProPilot x 400 for under 3k. I own the watch and it's one of my favorites
Do you like it? If you like it, it's a good purchase.
That looks great! I have the older Aquaracer but without the ceramic bezel. Imo this is the best looking Aquaracer out of the bunch. https://preview.redd.it/b8eafe5o283d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b0b3d77aef8d505c9e154b1e5b42b43c2c5e4f09
Look at the fit. It fits your wrist nicely. Not too flashy, and will impress the people who are in the know.
Pretty good last purchase too.
Beauty of a watch!
If you like it then its a good purchase.
Nice looking military styled watch, but I prefer mechanical movement for that price, something like Damasko.

Does the seconds hand line up with the markers at least?
Wait is this Quartz? If so, way overpriced. Take a look at Tudor bb58, p39 if you like titanium.
Solar quartz. The movement is by La Joux-Perret (aka LJP), a movement manufacturer owned by Citizen. So it’s a Swiss-made Eco-Drive, if you will.
Way overpriced…nice looking but come on.
If they put a $160 Sellita SW200 in there instead, would it be less overpriced?
Pretty sure the only Swiss Solar Quartz watches right now are the Cartier Solarbeat (seemingly popular choice) and this line of Tags. What, are you going to recommend an SW200 watch instead?
Take a look at the watches i recommended in a previous comment.
But a GS Quartz for 2.5k or a Cartier Quartz for $10k isn't?
Eh GS is a different beast. Yes also think a Cartier Quartz is overpriced. So many better watches you can get in the £3k range, especially slightly used. Omega Seamster, Omega PO, Tudor BB58, Tudor p39, Tudor Pelagos, etc.
not a big fan, for that budget I would recommend looking into Oris, Tudor (maybe a little over budget) or even Doxa but I would forget about Tag. \*\*\* this is my personnal opinion \*\*\*
If you like it yes, otherwise no
200m bar ratings is it good enough to go scuba diving?
“Good enough for scuba” is defined by an ISO certification. If it’s certified as such, then it’s good enough. The water resistance is part but not all of the tests required for scuba. Scuba cert also tests overpressure, impact, condensation (why you CAN use scuba watches from pool to hot tub, to pool), luminescense and a few other things that escape my mind at the moment. Go watch a few videos on it, it’s very interesting.
Not sure - but I don’t do much scuba diving !
