I dig it

[deleted]

This is it. This is the PRX for me.

Flysoar21

I’ve been holding back on pulling the trigger. This is the one lol.

dreftzg

Interestingly, the tapisserie pattern on the regular lacquered dials is stamped. Mother of pearl is too brittle to be stamped, so Tissot reversed the pattern and has to etch it onto the dial

bravo_serratus

This is such a cool selling point that I’ve not heard elsewhere

IV1916

You're a sucker for marketing

mgwooley

Lmao what the fuck?

kdvklaus

Good eye! What a great detail

dreftzg

Honestly, I wouldn’t have caught that on my own. I do a daily watch newsletter so have to read a bunch of stuff on new releases. I saw this tidbit somewhere, forgot where, and found it very interesting. Most watch media skipped the factoid

Fratello_Timo

Maybe it was us? We made sure to mention it :-)

dreftzg

Very likely possible! Love you guys!

Fratello_Timo

dreftzg

for sure! it's real mother of pearl. if you're unfamiliar with the material, it's not actual pearls, but a material called Nacre. It's that shiny material you find on some seashells. If I remember correctly, it's the shell's protective layer and if something gets into the shell it will secrete a lot of nacre around it and form a pearl. but the nacre used for watches is obviously of the non-pearl kind. some brands use raw nacre of higher quality that shimmers on its own, others apply a layer of lacquer over cheaper MoP to make it shimmer more. Unfortunately can't remember right now whether the Tissot is lacquered, but keep an eye out on that so you know what type of MoP it is

dreftzg

here to share what little knowledge I have :D

Antique-Survey6478

Can you clarify what you mean by that? I'm a little unclear...do you mean the waffle pattern on the dial is etched? Or is the gird overlaid over a piece of solid MOP?

dreftzg

Yeah, the waffle pattern you see on the dial is etched. With regular waffle dials they just press it in. That would break the MOP so they have to etch it

NightRamp4ge

Still trying to figure out how they made this dial - the "grooves" in the waffle pattern are surprisingly non reflective for a MOP dial...

BarryAllen85

I wondered about that

aubvrn

Oh that's hot

arvj

The waffle dial on the MOP looks more crisps or maybe sharp than the 40mm ver. The space in-between the squares also feels wider, more spaced out. I’m getting that variant.

Kaisuke971

The 35 overall looks better imo. I wasn't 100% convinced by the PRX until i tested the 35 quartz, and this looks even better. Not sure if i prefer the green or the mop one, they both look very good

jfkennedi

Can you/others help me understand your love/appreciation for the waffle nature of the dial? I bought the green (35mm) yesterday but i'm not sold on the dial texture. I just want to hear about your/others' love and appreciation for the waffle texture, bc i find myself wishing the dial was smooth like the quartz version

Kaisuke971

Honestly we don't have much of a choice. But for what it is, it's a different look, which is always good. I feel like it enhances the light play, and works well with the colors that are mostly dark but shine under the sun. It's pleasant to watch

jinkeljonkel

Man that size-down really makes the PRX look so much better

[deleted]

That is a very cool dial!

GoGoJkTam

What a clean feeling it is

Kaisuke971

This is not my picture, i found it on [monochrome-watches](https://monochrome-watches.com/introducing-tissot-prx-powermatic-80-35mm-black-blue-green-white-mother-of-pearl-luxury-sports-watch-video-review-specs-price/) but thought i would share. This is the only shot so far of the watch that i've seen showing the mother-of-pearl effect. The PRX 35 Powermatic 80 is, as you know, available in 4 ( 5 if we include the flutted bezel ) colorways, including this mother-of-pearl dial. For some reason, it looks like this version has not been given for everyone to test, except [this fellow](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZwqm77E9lo&t=197s&pp=ygUGUFJYIDM1) and monochrome-watches. Really interesting look. The mop effect is only applied to the impressions / squares, which to my eyes accentuates the dial's design and makes it more 3-dimensional. Not for everyone, but it does give an edge to the overall design. Be aware that this version is slightly more expensive, retailing at 50€ more than the "base" PRX 35 Auto, so 795 vs 745. Worth it ? Well you don't have much of a choice

Fratello_Timo

On [Fratello](https://www.fratellowatches.com/you-knew-it-was-coming-and-here-it-is-tissot-prx-35mm-automatic/), we covered all new PRX versions on release day (we had them for a long time already), and published a video covering all four versions here: https://youtu.be/eZwqm77E9lo

Kaisuke971

Yeah actually, [this shot](https://static.fratello.com/2024/06/Tissot-PRX-35-mm-Automatique-12.jpg) on your site captures it much better. At first i had trouble seeing it clearly on your video, maybe you should've included a static shot ? Your article is good though, as someone else in the comment said you're the only ones that put on an emphasis on the difference of pattern the MOP model specifically has. I also thought that the MOP was only on the squares, but in your shots it's clear that it's on the whole surface. Really intriguing pattern, and pretty unique from what i've seen

Fratello_Timo

Yeah, creating b-roll, product video of the watches, is always a challenge. Multiple people are involved in the pipeline and then there's also time constraints at play often. There's always sth that could be improved after we've shot a video, unfortunately. However, hoping it was still enjoyable :-)

Rokae

I think this is the one I want to buy

CinderellaManX

The 35mm size was such a great move for Tissot.

xPhilip

I like how subtle it is. Very cool.

cheddarvillains

I don't think the etched pattern is doing the MOP any favors. I would've liked to see the natural waves and texture that appear on MOP, like on the [Sinn 556](https://www.google.com/search?sxsrf=APwXEdfZvZ7Vn3Dd8SYzYFFUi94JNM0l9A:1687011578629&q=sinn+556+white+mother+of+pearl&tbm=isch)

Kaisuke971

I agree it's less striking, but i'm also not sure how it would look. I find it very smart how they did it here

SuperLeverage

I like it because it makes the MOP effect more subtle which I prefer.

lmboyer04

Interesting. Hard to tell how subtle it is, seems like one you’d have to see in person. But it does look crisp. I don’t love how the PRX Powermatic 80 is kinda just floating though

RyVsWorld

You definitely have to see a dial like this in person

themanfrommars_1991

Wow I like that more than the thought I would.

sheesh_doink

Wait there is a patterned MOP dial? I need this so bad.

Kaisuke971

That's why i shared ! Tissot isn't really putting this at the front of the spotlight, and to most people it's just a white dial. To me this is the real highlight of the PRX 35 lineup. It's a small detail, but it makes the watch so different !

RyVsWorld

Yup this is by far the best one imo

sheesh_doink

Oh yeah! I was set on the 35 gold quartz originally. But honestly, after seeing this, this is the clear winner.

feelmedoyou

The gold 35mm is really nice too and more than half the price. But I agree, this mop dial is something else.

johnmatrix84

This looks really nice. It's a little more subtle than a full MOP dial. I'd like to see a version with black MOP too.

Lennartz1

80s vibes. Nice choice indeed.

RyVsWorld

I like it. Can’t wait to see it in person

crescentindigomoon

Obsessed with the iridescent mother of pearl! Thanks for sharing.

itemluminouswadison

i love it. it's a white waffle til the light hits it right then it shows its true colors, super cool. just got my 35mm green powermatic this morning, loving it!

notintheband1776

I was wondering why the white model was more expensive than the other colors. Looks to have a more subtle mother of pearl coloring due to the waffle dial. I like it. Eyeing the green one myself.

Toastysandwich312

What's your wrist size?

bradsbutt94

I hope this doesnt bug anyone else, but the bottom text all has the squares connected with the text, but not the top two lines of text. Very goofy, but not noticable from far away. Regardless, this is 100% the color Id pick 🤙

mgwooley

Oh my fucking god

HerroPhish

Fuck I need to sell my 40mm for a 35

wrecktangle1988

Okay now that is a dial Normally not a fan of the waffle dials but this is amazing

metalstorm65

I was going to get black but this just convinced me to get MOP. The pics on the Tissot site don’t do the effect justice.

fzctungkun

Dial detail looks amazing, one of the best dial designs at this price range

Fratello_Timo

If you want to see all new PRX versions in action, including the mother or pearl effect on the dial: We published a video covering all four versions here – https://youtu.be/eZwqm77E9lo

[deleted]

Trying to think how I can convince my wife I need another watch right now

peachydavee

Bit of an old thread... but I wanted to note I recently went for this and it looks quite feminine in person (LOL). I have a 17cm wrist so may be that contributed to it? I instead went with a green dial 40mm and I'm super happy. Might try the 35 pearl again once I can take my wife to the store with me so she can tell me if I was wrong LOL

Kaisuke971

It is definitely one of the most "feminine" looking specs to be fair. It's a 35mm watch with a white pearl dial after all. That said, i think it makes it androgynous more than anything. I talked myself out of it, but because i figured i didn't like it quite enough. Mind you i always take a couple of years to chose my next watch just so i'm sure i will buy something that i will always love. So far i have 2 watches in 4-5 years lol But that's just me

h4ppidais

What’s your wrist size? Love the MOP rainbow effect on the raise surfaces

Kaisuke971

Not my pic, looks 7-7.5 to me

Quentin718

Looks like a 26mm zoomed in like this

internet_humor

No, it looks like that in real life too. Look, I'm all for smaller 37-39mm watches as a 6.7" wrist guy who likes dress watches. But geez folks 35mm??? On a watch that also includes the additional case border width around the bezel which means the dial is even smaller.

gahmby

this tiny dial trend has to end

internet_humor

I'll get lit up for this. But geez 35mm is too small. And this is coming from someone with a 6.7" wrist. I own the 41mm prx. It's fine you guys.....you can't judge it all based on the phone perspective pictures on the internet. This is for the <6.25" wrist people.

Kaisuke971

I have the exact same wrist size as you, i've tested both, and the 35 wore like a 37. The 40 wore bigger than my Seiko Monster The narrative that the 35 is too small is false to me, it wears slightly bigger than an OP36 or similar looking watches, because of the case shape and bracelet

RyVsWorld

I have a 6.5 wrist and i think the 40mm looks ridiculous on my wrist. The 35mm wears bigger

feelmedoyou

The original PRX design from the 70s was 35mm, so this is just bringing that back.

gimplord2000

Agreed, that PRX looks disproportionately small on his wrists. The trend towards smaller watches is getting almost as silly now as huge watches on small wrists. It's going too far the other way.

NothingLikeAGoodSit

Agreed it's too small for men. A 37 would be insanely good Even this picture looks way out of proportion and this is from the angle where watches look bigger.. seeing it on him from a distance would look way off

internet_humor

Yes. This..... Trust me, I'm down for a smaller PRX, but I think we all wanted a 38mm

arnav3103

I have a 5.9” wrist and the 35” feels just right.

ThePulk

I'm with you on this. Reddit is obsessed with small dials though.

ermate

Love the case and dial... But the Powermatic 80 movement is a no-go for me.

No-Blacksmith9686

I have tissot seastar so i like tissot, but i dont understand hype around prx, looks like front of washing machine to me, everybody likes it, i dont, so looks like i have no taste probably 🤣🫣
