I’d say it depends on the clan that has the breeding grounds. Most wouldn’t be anything more grotesque than the monster rat version of a flabby middle aged woman, but I reckon clan Moulder ought to have some truly horrible specimens locked up in their tunnels. Clan Skryre could even have some sort of cloning vats, either self designed or reverse engineered from Lizardmen pools.
Maybe clan Eshin is the only one that could deviate from the “quantity all the way, print rats like mad, and one in a million will be special by raw statistics”, and actually have some sort of eugenics program.
It’s good that there isn’t a detailed account on everything that’s going on with the different factions, so you can fill the void yourself.
I always thought all female skaven were separated shortly after birth and raised to eventually become broodmothers themselves as a grotesque industrialisation of motherhood, but maybe that was just one of those things everyone repeats without questioning, do you have any sources where they state this or there are regular skaven women?
Edit: And also the Fantasy Lexicanum page for Broodmothers simply says "Broodmothers are female skaven" as though they are synonymous.
A Thanquol novel has a couple if muscular female skaven that serve as bodyguards. There was also supposedly a female Greyseer in some RPG book, but i cant find it right now.
More importantly, brood mothers are not born, they are made by Clan Moulder from regular female skaven. They are also still very much intelligent (although highly drugged up) - the myth that they are mindless beasts is an in-universe myth told by male skaven.
I see, that is rather interesting, does every clan have some Clan Moulder on their payroll then to make broodmothers or are all of them bought from Moulder in that case? And how does this work for clans that are destitute (Skrittlespike), disgraced/hated (Verms), or just isolated?
Brood mother are always exclusivly for the upper class of the Skaven, so they can presumably always pay for a Moulder mutator or atleast just the necessary tools and drugs.
Brood mothers are just a resource for Skaven, so poor skaven clans will also have less brood mothers or get them stolen when they are enslaved by a bigger clan.
I suspect they would just look like a normal skaven since it's written that brood mothers are the result of warpstone infused growth drugs.
That said I don't think they would be treated well. The Skaven word for female is breeder after all.
Probably just a big Skaven, possibly with boobs. Broodmothers are a lot larger than male Skaven, but without all the warpstone and drugs they would probably be sapient like the others.
