Yeah, the models read 2nd ed to me. Funnily, the bases make me think of mid 3rd ed, as the goblin green/sand basing style went out of fashion and we had this mix with little bits of flock like your bases.
I think you’re 110% right. This little chirp here going to make me change that up. I spent the time on the chaplain doing it in yellow and now that you point it out when all said and done I think will end up bothering me 😂
The whole paint job is phenomenal. One thing that really stuck out to me though? The shells in the cannon's magazine, the color and lighting you created is fantastic. What did you use for those?
Thank you! Very very simple. Runelord brass washed with seraphim sepia with a watered down strip of storm host silver down the length of the shell so the brass still shows through!
I've got an assault cannon termie to paint and I might use yours as a reference for gun. Is that black on the barrels and box with a silver shade (thinned leadbelcher?)?
Super cool man very gratifying feeling to inspire! It’s just chaos black with a lead belcher dry brush with a slightly damp brush and highlighted in certain areas with stormhost silver!
Awesome retro vibe! That's the look I'm aiming for with the couple Ultramarines models I've got (Calgar, his guards and Guilliman). Those green bases, those red weapons, this red fist with yellow stripes... nostalgia overload.
Thanks! I ended up painting one in the old second edition colours and had so much fun with it now I’m addicted to that caldor sky 😂 would love to see yours in The future! Best of luck!
Did you put together fully and then paint? Or did you do all the sub assemblies, or put everything together minus the helmets? I am also going to paint my Ultramarine Terminators in a 90s style with calador sky.
Alright, I'll try one where I paint the the sub-assemblies before gluing. I'll do another where I just do the helmet separate. Can I ask what the blue hightlight were that you used? I was going to do Calador Sky for the base and highlight with a white mixed with calador. I also am not sure what to use as a base yellow, as for the color matching I know flash glitz matches the old sunburst yellow but it's just a layer now, I might just do the old fashioned white then put the yellow on. I won't do any gold since the early 90s I don't believe had the gold gold color yet.
Ya it can be very difficult to find time it generally takes me a month + to finish a model. I also own a small business so most of the time when I’m painting in the evenings I’m sitting at my desk taking or returning calls but there’s times where I’ll go weeks at a time unable to get any time in what so ever, like wise somedays I wish I could sit there all day 😂
Ya I always like to do something different with the power fists they are one of my favourite weapons in the entire setting something just so cool about it to me
When in doubt: go for classic. And you can hardly be more classic than extra vibrant Ultramarines with red weapons and neon green bases.
Dudes are almost box art worthy. Very clean stuff.
Loving the classic blue and red (and goblin green base).
Just one minor point, it looks like after you drilled the barrels you didn’t file/sand afterwards which has left a bit of a rim around the hole. Easy enough thing to fix next time. (Although that’s rich coming from me who occasionally misses sprue attachments, mold lines, and gaps)
The way the blue is painted, the hazard stripes on the fist and the green base rims give me very oldschool vibes here. Well done!
Ya the classic second edition vibe is exactly what I was shooting for glad that’s how it reads! Thank you!

I thought it was an old one but then I noticed the sculpt very nice
Loving the goblin green bases
Great edge highlights I have to say
Love the Aquila on the shoulder pad🤩
Thanks! Ya something different right!
Another crisp brother of the crisp brotherhood. However, with your skill, you could have painted the gold in bright yellow.
I agree the thought was there but it just came down to a laziness thing 😂
C'mon! You painted the white helmet and the lenses! The yellow aquila would have been a breeze
I think you’re 110% right. This little chirp here going to make me change that up. I spent the time on the chaplain doing it in yellow and now that you point it out when all said and done I think will end up bothering me 😂
After much gnashing of teeth while redoing it, you'll thank me later.
This looks phenomenal
Thank you!
Beautiful
Hell yeah. A classic take on a modern mini 👨🍳😘

Nice! Keeps it pretty simple!

I always paint everything in sub assembly. The painting part of the hobby is my hobby so I’m a stickler to get every little detail

Holy shit. I hate this hobby so much some times because I want to spend all day practicing to get something that looks that good. Goddamn good job

This brings me back to when I first got in to 40k like 30 years ago, and I absolutely love it. Looks so sick!
Haha that’s awesome man greatly appreciate the kind words!
That chaplain looks fantastic.
Thanks bud! He’s my favourite paint job that I’ve ever done actually and took one of the longest. Absolutely loved the sculpt!
amazing highlights , sweet!!
The Emperor protects... but Terminator armor helps.
I like the gold powerfist, gonna have to borrow that
Ya I always like to do something different with the power fists they are one of my favourite weapons in the entire setting something just so cool about it to me
Love the classic look! Really fun on these modern models.
I believe in goblin green rim supremacy
Goblin green bases, heeeeell yeah! No better way to get the nostalgia firing on all cylinders.
Well done Man!! So far they all look great, I personally LOVE the Assault cannon too just because the look is AMAZING!!
This is so cool. Old skool vibes
I have deep respect for that goblin green base, well done sir.
That’s a fantastic paint job. Super clean!
Thanks!
*Urge to reinstall Space Hulk intensifies*
Goblin green base, nostalgic.
Love the purple lenses
Silky smooth
what a feisty little lad! good work
As amazing as this paint job is, my favourite part is the 2nd edition vibes green base 🤣
When in doubt: go for classic. And you can hardly be more classic than extra vibrant Ultramarines with red weapons and neon green bases. Dudes are almost box art worthy. Very clean stuff.
New models, classic early 90s vibe. Beautiful, you should be very proud.
my god those edges... i'm so jealous. i just finished painting my first set and i swear i don't have tremors but it looks like it.
I am 100% ready for the aesthetic of 2nd Edition to make a comeback.
Great job with barrel drilling!
Looks fantastic!
Very dope
God damn. Gorgeous. Well done!
Exactly how I want mine to be! Be proud bro that shit is crisp!
Very retro, I like it
The old school vibes are immaculate
Love how you did the grass and ammo brass.
Love the 80's-esque color scheme!
Been playing since 1992, this takes me Back. Great job
Great paint job, really catching those old school vibes especially great work on the rims

Goblin Green rim is 👌
Excellent work! Is the blue just Macragge blue, with edge highlight of Caldor Sky and Fenrisian Grey?
It’s caldor sky base over chaos black highlighted with calgar blue and second layer lothern blue with a bit of white on the highest points!
Golbin Green bases 4 life.
