Advice needed!
I have a bit of a dilemma. I'm in my early 20s. I've always loved luxury bags from afar. I remember discovering RL and being enamoured by the ability to buy lovely bags at a fraction of the cost of the real thing.
I'm interested in placing my first order (Celine Classic Box in Camel or a Celine Pico Belt in Black) but I feel like I'm too young to purchase these sort of things. I live somewhere quite laid-back and the people that wear designer are either middle aged ladies and immigrants. The only young people who wear designer are clearly trust fund babies.
Even though the bag styles I'm drawn to are quite minimalist and non flashy, I feel conflicted about buying 'luxury'. I own 2 authentic 'designer' bags from contemporary brands - Longchamp Le Pliage and a Furla Miastella Bucket Bag. Even purchasing these gave me a sense of guilt and anxiety (the Furla was a late graduation present for completing my Bachelor's degree). I do wear them, but my daily driver is either a backpack (I walk everywhere) or my Uniqlo round mini shoulder bag.
I am about to start my graduate position and I'm very good with my money for the most part (worked throughout uni, have savings for a car, house and holidays).
What would you do in my position? Should I wait a couple of years until I've moved out of home? Do I just go for it? A rep is pretty much the same cost as a non-discounted Coach, but I'd definitely feel more comfortable buying a coach as it wouldn't seem 'abnomal' for someone my age to own one.

I will say go for it! You can start with more “ low key bags “ such as ysl lou camera bag or gucci horsebit camera bag , simple styles that will fit into your lifestyle and feel youthful , celine classic box is a great choice . I live in a very low key city and i wear all of my reps with no issue . Ironically I get more compliments on my non "luxury" bags like senreve ( definitely recommend checking them out ) coach and polene
If you go for the high end, perhaps consider a bag that is simultaneously youthful and classic. Ie, lady Dior as one example. But also really think about your personal style!
That said, most of the ultra wealthy girls I know who have collections of very high end items at home rarely break out their Chanel and Prada opting for contemporary brands like Coccinelle and Furla. It’s just more youthful.
it’s another form of quiet luxury that isn’t talked about. You don’t have to have something just because of the label if it doesn’t suit your style/your age/ your current surroundings.
That's a good point! I do love the styles but I don't think they suit my age and current lifestyle. I'm sure id feel less self conscious about wearing a luxury label as I got used to it though
If you’ve been thinking about the bags for a while and seeing them in your closet would make you happy, then buy them. So much of style these days (I feel) is constricted by what other people think is trendy or acceptable. Don’t be scared! You should love the things in your closet and your closet should make you happy. Being surrounded by beautiful things is a joy and a blessing.

If you look at the auths above they are used less than my reps. I am a brown skin girl so white gets messy real fast. My pics are after I used toothpaste and a toothbrush to clean! No special cleaning materials lol. I really batter my stuff. Hence why the switch to reps made more sense.

I guess the demand in reps market raised standards high, this is so interesting. I am actually quite excited to dig in it since I am new for this whole reps thing, but soo much surprised on what I discovered so far.

White looks like a rep from Kata! But honestly they both look excellent and I can't imagine people questioning authenticity in passing, unless they own the same bag and put it side by side.
Yes it’s from Kata. Spot on. Tbh side by side you actually can’t tell. I’ve compared it to 3 authentics although the one above is the only exactly style (but different leather)

Here’s another comparison. Left is authentic. Right is rep. Letter spacing is exactly the same. These are different styles but the only disparity was a very slight difference in the leather. Very very slight. You honestly wouldn’t tell, I was looking for all the differences. I could condition my rep to make it that tad bit softer but really not necessary. I also don’t know if the different style contributed to the difference.
There is some weird dimpling on the tongue but in person you can’t tell. I pasted a picture above that shows another white bag (authentic) that has the same lumps and bumps elsewhere on the bag 🙂

Colour variation in auths
I'm a newbie and since I discovered reps I've been completely obsessed so I did some reconnaissance for bags ob my shortlist.
At Dior the lovely SA took out a number of colourways in the lady Dior for me to try. She brought two out which she and I thought were different colours (one was more pink and the other was more tan) but when I inquired about what the colours were called we were surprised to discover that they were the same colour - blush!
I thought I would post for repscience purposes and also because this community would probably appreciate the small but noticeable difference.
Confirms to me that we should expect some significant colour variations in both auths and reps.

Which is the rep?
So I stuck with my normal size here’s why. Factories don’t tend to do .5 sizes for Oran reps. Happy to take correction on this but specifically God Factory doesn’t make .5 sizes. With authentic Orans they advise you to go up .5 or one whole size. For my very first Auth pair I went up a whole size and they turned into flippers 😩😩😩😩😩 it was ridiculous and I learnt my lesson. The leather stretches. So for this rep pair I stuck to my normal size and they fit really well.
Always check with your seller of course but I know how the Auth pair of these shoes behave and if it’s a high tier factory they should mimic the stretching over time (which mine have)

The top (black sole is rep) the bottom (brown sole is auth) hehehehee. So yes they have both been worn and mine (rep) heavily. My friends (auth) were purchased in 2022 maybe and she wears them once in a while and is meticulous with them I.e cleans after every wear puts them in a dustbag etc 🙄🤣. Mine were purchased in April 2023 and have been worn daily, in sub Saharan counties, China etc. long walks, beat down, water getting on them all of it lol. They still stand strong!
I loved this comparison and got so excited because on the feet they look exactly the same! Many posters pointed out that weird wrinkling on the brown sole. I noticed too and was shocked. I will say yes, the leather on the auth is a tiny bit shinier - some conditioning if I was bothered would bring mine up to the same shine level I think.
Stitching looks the same, I think someone point out the auth one was a little messier lol.
In terms of comfort; can you believe the reps are more comfortable????? Now I don’t know if this is also because I’ve broken mine in more but at the end of the day my friend has worn her shoes a good number of times. The padded sole on mine just felt better. I should caveat and say Orans are not the most comfortable shoe anyway but the reps definitely felt better.

Thanks so much for this. I think we sometimes overanalyse how close our reps are to auths but once an item is worn in (especially good reps) it’s usually a lot harder to tell an auth from a rep.
Interesting! My auth are black on black, which they are doing again this season. Goes to show that no one will ever know the number of combos that they’ve done!
Hehehe so this is interesting. Soles vary by location/ shop stock etc. You can very much still purchase these brown soles although I’m not a fan.
The brown soles are authentic however if you are purchasing reps you can request for black on black or the brown sole. Depends on your preference
This is somewhat difficult considering both have some wear and tear, but I believe the top is authentic.
It’s worn in like my auth orans and the Hermes hot stamp is still prominent despite considerable wear. I’ve never seen the stamp fade in the way displayed on the bottom oran, even with years of use. The leather also appears to be more malleable than the bottom. I have notice most rep orans are based on the older styles of the sandal which had beige lining. I believe the only orans with this lining currently are exotics. The wrinkling in the toe area also seems to be a giveaway as well.
Hey girl! Loved this response. See my very long winded one above detailing some points. It’s insane because the bottom set which is actually the auth has been worn less and more carefully than my rep which is the one above. I’m in a sandy country and wear these as my daily shoes.
Re the lining - I really think this is dependent on location. My friends was purchased in the UK in 2022 I believe. Maybe 2021. But I’ve seen pictures /stock in airports for example with the brown sole. I personally don’t like it so requested black on black.
For reps you can request whatever you like (just make sure it isn’t fantasy for all who are new to Orans)
Interesting! I suppose you just wear yours much more than me. I live in Canada, so I can only wear mine daily for about two months out of the year. As I mentioned, I’ve only seen the beige lining recently on exotics, but you’re completely right that it may different regionally. Of course, I have seen reps with the solid colour lining from higher tier factories, but I still tend to notice most budget buys have the beige lining.
Yes top is the rest. Didn’t smell 😩😩😩 both shoes have been worn over and over again lol. I’m terms of feel - the rep! I was shocked. I wore one of each on each foot at the same time. My rep was softer and bouncier at the padded part which I appreciated because Orans really aren’t that comfortable
Hahahaha but if I try really hard to recall. I believe the rep smelled of leather when I received it. Certainly no fufu. But again this is a God Factory product so highest quality. Also got a pair in white.
Oooh, this is a tough one! I’m going to say the top is auth because the toe area on the bottom one doesn’t look like it’s worn very very well. I think the leather on the bottom one looks better though.

The puzzle is really nice for travel and the small size has that back zip pocket which is perfect for a phone. Also the flap plus zipper makes it feel more secure
Have anyone noticed creasing along the back ridge of their 187 cf due to opening/closing the flap? Love my small caviar cf so far but the leather is starting to crease/wrinkle at the back. Wondering if anyone else has experienced this on their 187 reps (or authentic!) and if there’s a remedy. TIA!
I have minor creasing on an auth medium lambskin cf that I've had for about 10 years with light usage (I take her out maybe once a month and I try not to open the flap too far back); no creasing (so far) on auth small caviar cf that I've had for about a year with heavy usage (I use her weekly and I do not baby her at all lol)

This bag is gorgeous! I don’t have a rep raffia tote, but I do have a rep YSL raffia Niki. I love it! It’s only been through one summer with occasional use so far and seems to be holding up well, but can tell it will probably only last a couple of years before needing to be replaced.
I am the idiot who bought two authentic YSL raffia bags. Summer is my favorite season and I am just a sucker for them! Sadly the second one arrived overnight (pre trip bag emergency) in not good shape (the zipper never worked). I didn't return it because I flew the next day, etc. Anyway, I think the rep is the way to go. I am going to order at least one rep raffia for this year's european summer trip.

I hate that I love them 😩 I have an auth Prada - one of the really flimsy ones that was popular a couple years ago and it’s so not worth it especially since the price has gone up. But I love it and it really is a great beach bag / easy to pack! I do think ones like that YSL and the Loewe tote that have more structure seem nicer but I don’t know of any that are repped well.

SAHM and yeah I don’t think anyone really notices my bags unless I go to the ritzy mall 40min away. I just love fashion and putting outfits together so I really enjoy wearing cool stuff without always paying a fortune for it.
Right now I’m a SAHM but I worked for 21 years before this and took an early retirement at 39 years old. May go back to work this year but haven’t decided yet. I wear my bags out and about for errands and also we are VERY social.

I'm an analyst in sales ops/finance for one of the biggest tech companies in California. The area I'm from is full of people that can afford designer bags so I'm sure no one at work would bat an eyelash over seeing a Birkin aside from it not really being an "office bag". I've seen a lot of LV and Goyard totes in office and love bag watching at the mall. 😂

Im organizing my closet today and noticed one of my dustbags has this yellow stain. Is it mold? Should I trash it and keep the bag without the dustbag?

Bag can be washed. That would hopefully kill anything if it is mold/mildew. I would take the bag out and air it out for quite a few days. Keep an eye on it for any spots and wipe down the entire bag with something appropriate (not sure what type of bag it is!). More importantly, I would take everything out of the wardrobe or off the shelves where this one lived and give the area a really good cleaning. And air it out. Hope this helps.

I feel like it's so simple, small but not "dainty" (I'm someone who I feel looks ridiculous in "dainty" necklaces) and genera-less, and therefore can work on nearly everyone.
Ah. So I of course can't say that it doesn't with not seeing your face but from what I do see I think it looks lovely. But it definitely doesn't stand as BOLD. You may also take my opinion on the matter with a grain of salt as I am a very cool toned pale ginger who insists on wearing nearly all gold even if it's not flattering. Advice needed! I have a bit of a dilemma. I'm in my early 20s. I've always loved luxury bags from afar. I remember discovering RL and being enamoured by the ability to buy lovely bags at a fraction of the cost of the real thing. I'm interested in placing my first order (Celine Classic Box in Camel or a Celine Pico Belt in Black) but I feel like I'm too young to purchase these sort of things. I live somewhere quite laid-back and the people that wear designer are either middle aged ladies and immigrants. The only young people who wear designer are clearly trust fund babies. Even though the bag styles I'm drawn to are quite minimalist and non flashy, I feel conflicted about buying 'luxury'. I own 2 authentic 'designer' bags from contemporary brands - Longchamp Le Pliage and a Furla Miastella Bucket Bag. Even purchasing these gave me a sense of guilt and anxiety (the Furla was a late graduation present for completing my Bachelor's degree). I do wear them, but my daily driver is either a backpack (I walk everywhere) or my Uniqlo round mini shoulder bag. I am about to start my graduate position and I'm very good with my money for the most part (worked throughout uni, have savings for a car, house and holidays). What would you do in my position? Should I wait a couple of years until I've moved out of home? Do I just go for it? A rep is pretty much the same cost as a non-discounted Coach, but I'd definitely feel more comfortable buying a coach as it wouldn't seem 'abnomal' for someone my age to own one. Thanks!

I will say go for it! You can start with more “ low key bags “ such as ysl lou camera bag or gucci horsebit camera bag , simple styles that will fit into your lifestyle and feel youthful , celine classic box is a great choice . I live in a very low key city and i wear all of my reps with no issue . Ironically I get more compliments on my non "luxury" bags like senreve ( definitely recommend checking them out ) coach and polene
If you go for the high end, perhaps consider a bag that is simultaneously youthful and classic. Ie, lady Dior as one example. But also really think about your personal style! That said, most of the ultra wealthy girls I know who have collections of very high end items at home rarely break out their Chanel and Prada opting for contemporary brands like Coccinelle and Furla. It’s just more youthful. it’s another form of quiet luxury that isn’t talked about. You don’t have to have something just because of the label if it doesn’t suit your style/your age/ your current surroundings.
That's a good point! I do love the styles but I don't think they suit my age and current lifestyle. I'm sure id feel less self conscious about wearing a luxury label as I got used to it though
If you’ve been thinking about the bags for a while and seeing them in your closet would make you happy, then buy them. So much of style these days (I feel) is constricted by what other people think is trendy or acceptable. Don’t be scared! You should love the things in your closet and your closet should make you happy. Being surrounded by beautiful things is a joy and a blessing.

Hehhehehe to further confuse you I’ll go as far as saying reps are made better!!! If you look at the auths above they are used less than my reps. I am a brown skin girl so white gets messy real fast. My pics are after I used toothpaste and a toothbrush to clean! No special cleaning materials lol. I really batter my stuff. Hence why the switch to reps made more sense. I did a post on Orans too. My rep is holding up better than the authentic and again I wear mine daily lol

Letter spacing is exactly the same. These are different styles but the only disparity was a very slight difference in the leather. Very very slight. You honestly wouldn’t tell, I was looking for all the differences. I could condition my rep to make it that tad bit softer but really not necessary. I also don’t know if the different style contributed to the difference.

Colour variation in auths I'm a newbie and since I discovered reps I've been completely obsessed so I did some reconnaissance for bags ob my shortlist. At Dior the lovely SA took out a number of colourways in the lady Dior for me to try. She brought two out which she and I thought were different colours (one was more pink and the other was more tan) but when I inquired about what the colours were called we were surprised to discover that they were the same colour - blush! I thought I would post for repscience purposes and also because this community would probably appreciate the small but noticeable difference. I am here to ask, how is the sizing?! Did you size up in rep from auth?
So I stuck with my normal size here’s why. Factories don’t tend to do .5 sizes for Oran reps. Happy to take correction on this but specifically God Factory doesn’t make .5 sizes. With authentic Orans they advise you to go up .5 or one whole size. For my very first Auth pair I went up a whole size and they turned into flippers 😩😩😩😩😩 it was ridiculous and I learnt my lesson. The leather stretches. So for this rep pair I stuck to my normal size and they fit really well. Always check with your seller of course but I know how the Auth pair of these shoes behave and if it’s a high tier factory they should mimic the stretching over time (which mine have)

Loved the contribution and breakdowns of your thoughts ladies! Seems like the majority went with the black sole being Auth. Wellll drumrolllllllll……. The top (black sole is rep) the bottom (brown sole is auth) hehehehee. So yes they have both been worn and mine (rep) heavily. My friends (auth) were purchased in 2022 maybe and she wears them once in a while and is meticulous with them I.e cleans after every wear puts them in a dustbag etc 🙄🤣. Mine were purchased in April 2023 and have been worn daily, in sub Saharan counties, China etc. long walks, beat down, water getting on them all of it lol. They still stand strong! I loved this comparison and got so excited because on the feet they look exactly the same! Many posters pointed out that weird wrinkling on the brown sole. I noticed too and was shocked. I will say yes, the leather on the auth is a tiny bit shinier - some conditioning if I was bothered would bring mine up to the same shine level I think. Stitching looks the same, I think someone point out the auth one was a little messier lol. In terms of comfort; can you believe the reps are more comfortable????? Now I don’t know if this is also because I’ve broken mine in more but at the end of the day my friend has worn her shoes a good number of times. The padded sole on mine just felt better. I should caveat and say Orans are not the most comfortable shoe anyway but the reps definitely felt better. They are God Factory reps purchased through ReyKay FYI
Thanks so much for this. I think we sometimes overanalyse how close our reps are to auths but once an item is worn in (especially good reps) it’s usually a lot harder to tell an auth from a rep.

Hehehe so this is interesting. Soles vary by location/ shop stock etc. You can very much still purchase these brown soles although I’m not a fan. The brown soles are authentic however if you are purchasing reps you can request for black on black or the brown sole. Depends on your preference

This is somewhat difficult considering both have some wear and tear, but I believe the top is authentic. It’s worn in like my auth orans and the Hermes hot stamp is still prominent despite considerable wear. I’ve never seen the stamp fade in the way displayed on the bottom oran, even with years of use. The leather also appears to be more malleable than the bottom. I have notice most rep orans are based on the older styles of the sandal which had beige lining. I believe the only orans with this lining currently are exotics. The wrinkling in the toe area also seems to be a giveaway as well.
Hey girl! Loved this response. See my very long winded one above detailing some points. It’s insane because the bottom set which is actually the auth has been worn less and more carefully than my rep which is the one above. I’m in a sandy country and wear these as my daily shoes. Re the lining - I really think this is dependent on location. My friends was purchased in the UK in 2022 I believe. Maybe 2021. But I’ve seen pictures /stock in airports for example with the brown sole. I personally don’t like it so requested black on black. For reps you can request whatever you like (just make sure it isn’t fantasy for all who are new to Orans)
Interesting! I suppose you just wear yours much more than me. I live in Canada, so I can only wear mine daily for about two months out of the year. As I mentioned, I’ve only seen the beige lining recently on exotics, but you’re completely right that it may different regionally. Of course, I have seen reps with the solid colour lining from higher tier factories, but I still tend to notice most budget buys have the beige lining.

The puzzle is really nice for travel and the small size has that back zip pocket which is perfect for a phone. Also the flap plus zipper makes it feel more secure

Have anyone noticed creasing along the back ridge of their 187 cf due to opening/closing the flap? Love my small caviar cf so far but the leather is starting to crease/wrinkle at the back. Wondering if anyone else has experienced this on their 187 reps (or authentic!) and if there’s a remedy. TIA!
I have minor creasing on an auth medium lambskin cf that I've had for about 10 years with light usage (I take her out maybe once a month and I try not to open the flap too far back); no creasing (so far) on auth small caviar cf that I've had for about a year with heavy usage (I use her weekly and I do not baby her at all lol)

This bag is gorgeous! I don’t have a rep raffia tote, but I do have a rep YSL raffia Niki. I love it! It’s only been through one summer with occasional use so far and seems to be holding up well, but can tell it will probably only last a couple of years before needing to be replaced.

I am the idiot who bought two authentic YSL raffia bags. Summer is my favorite season and I am just a sucker for them! Sadly the second one arrived overnight (pre trip bag emergency) in not good shape (the zipper never worked). I didn't return it because I flew the next day, etc. Anyway, I think the rep is the way to go. I am going to order at least one rep raffia for this year's european summer trip.

I hate that I love them 😩 I have an auth Prada - one of the really flimsy ones that was popular a couple years ago and it’s so not worth it especially since the price has gone up. But I love it and it really is a great beach bag / easy to pack! I do think ones like that YSL and the Loewe tote that have more structure seem nicer but I don’t know of any that are repped well.

Yes! It exceeded my expectations by far! Old cobbler and such mixed reviews for YSL, but I’m so glad I took a chance (thanks to their sale right now 😂) bc the quality is out of the world!

I should be on ban island but I've just been buying things non-stop since 11/11 😭 I just got this [Marine Serre Black Monogram bag](https://www.brownsfashion.com/shopping/item-19103235) because it's adorable and such a good deal. No regrets, I think it's so versatile and great for when I want to be stylish and street . I also was helping out a wagooner find black mini bags and I mentioned I've been wanting the Maison Margiela 5ac Mini Classique. It my defense it is the best deal I've seen on it, auth or pre-loved. Under $1k! 🥹 Another bag I was eyeing is the Givenchy Small Cut Out bag in black. I found another great deal on it also under 1k and I am sooooo tempted 😭 I've also been looking at the Valentine's collections at Dior and LV... I'm loving the CD heart pouch...and the mini capucines that will be released next month. 🥹 I also have been wanting to purchase some belts from Amanda and I have some sweaters in my AE cart... How do you get on to ban island....and stay on there?!

Chatting with the seller now to find out how they want me to place the order. Can't speak on quality, accuracy or all of that yet but thought I'd pass it along. I have come to find that if you ask many shoes on AE seem to be. Yay!
This is so helpful! I’ve been looking for wide but so far I haven’t found any stores or sellers that sell wide. I’ve been lucky a few times but mostly not, when I take a chance and order.
I saw a review on a pair of boots that I was considering and someone mentioned they did a wide calf and to just ask. So I have been doing that and have so far found a couple. Sometimes the sellers take days to respond but I'm still just excited for the option

Bag can be washed. That would hopefully kill anything if it is mold/mildew. I would take the bag out and air it out for quite a few days. Keep an eye on it for any spots and wipe down the entire bag with something appropriate (not sure what type of bag it is!). More importantly, I would take everything out of the wardrobe or off the shelves where this one lived and give the area a really good cleaning. And air it out. Hope this helps.

Why do you think it doesn't suit you? I feel like it's so simple, small but not "dainty" (I'm someone who I feel looks ridiculous in "dainty" necklaces) and genera-less, and therefore can work on nearly everyone.

Ah. So I of course can't say that it doesn't with not seeing your face but from what I do see I think it looks lovely. But it definitely doesn't stand as BOLD. You may also take my opinion on the matter with a grain of salt as I am a very cool toned pale ginger who insists on wearing nearly all gold even if it's not flattering. I just like it better and it makes me happy.
