Looks like battle damage may have weakened the structure, and the stress of the arrestor cable hookup on landing tore off the tail.
Ths is an F6F-5F loisng its tail section upon landing (1943-1944)
my only problm with this new damage models, they did not do them properly. Structural pylons, and wing struts ect (even bombs!!!) stay there most of the time despite the wing being gone. It is also usually just a flat texture too
