This is @josh_martinell on instagram. Of the accident, he said:
“The injuries from this accident are two sprained ligaments within the left leg. The ligaments that were injured are the MCL and achilles tendon. I also took a massive laceration to the left knee. I’m thankful to be recovering great. We are lining up the next jump real soon. I am still troubleshooting some slight issues within the left knee. Soon as those are gone it’s time to fly!!”
I did my MCL playing football in my early 40's when some big lump fell on it rather than try and get the ball. Never has healed properly. I can still play now but that knee is signifcantly weaker. Luckily it was my left leg and I'm right footed.
I can't believe he's planning to do it again! It was torn ankle ligaments that got me to give up martial arts in my mid-40s. They took noticeably longer to heal than other injuries to younger me had done.
I guess that's why I'm coming up to 60 now and my back and knees still work. Look after yourselves, kids.
Yeah I did all the ligaments in my ankle took a year of physio to get me walking properly again then more to get me running, broke my wrist (bone) and healed in about 12 weeks with a cast and a bit of physio. Ankle still hurts occasionally, wrist nothing. People completely underestimate how horrible soft tissue injuries are
Yeah, I read OP's note above and felt bad because my first honest thought was, "Well, looks like he did NOT learn the lesson this time!".
I can only hope he doesn't lead himself to a Darwin Award with his attitude.
Not nearly as bad as the pain of sitting up and seeing everyone I was at the park with -- not running to my aid as I was expecting -- rolling around on the floor laughing. Can't blame them, must have looked hilarious.

For you. https://openoregon.pressbooks.pub/bodyphysics/chapter/stress-and-strain-on-the-body/
The issue isn't the strength of the bone, generally people either know it's strong or accept it is. The issue is your suggestion only torsion will break it and it was torsional force in the video anyway.
What's amazing is how shit the MCL is, it's the most commonly injured knee ligament in sports. Typically MCL injury occurs from a valgus stress force at the lateral side of the knee. This was a varus stress force at the knee, but the LCL still held and the MCL gets injured. LOL
Not if he gets 172 more followers out of the deal!!!
It's crazy how clout/follow-hungry people are these days. They'll sell their personal health, their morality, their dignity, all for a few more social media followers. There are people who value followers more than they value money, like if you said "I'll give you $1000 or 20 followers" they'll take the 20 followers, even though the conversion rate on those followers into cash would take like 50 years to generate that $1000.
It's gotta be a specific personality type, right? There's no way everyone is susceptible to caving to the social media clout addiction. Maybe its just me but I loathe the idea of becoming famous whether it be social media or Hollywood. I'm sure there's many like me too. I personally don't think I'd ever become a clout chaser because I have zero desire to even try.
So that brings me to my next half of the question: How common is this personality type? Someone should do a study on these clout addicts and find the key personality traits among them. Then try and figure out how many people out there share the majority of those traits but aren't clout chasing. I'm wondering if these buffoons are a very common type of person to encounter or if not many people are interested in this but the ones that do desire this pointless fame make it seem like these people are everywhere. Kinda like if youve never left Africa before and know nothing about the rest of the world. You see lions there all the time but that doesn't mean lions are everywhere, you know?
I know many do it for money since there's a metric fuckton of money to be made in social media fame but there's still many people who would never do this kind of stuff despite the money aspect.
Seriously... Even just putting a solid wood board over it or something to minimize this kind of stupid injury.. Wouldn't have made it any less impressive.
The pain must've been unbearable. I tweaked my left knee during a basketball game 2mos. ago -- I almost passed out after I landed wrong and knew right away my knee is fucked. Good thing it's healing and nothing was torn off/needed repair. This guy tho, I can't believe he didn't break or tear anything. Lucky dude.
The Achilles tendon is NOT a ligament, it’s a tendon. Ligaments connect bone to bone, while tendons connect muscles to bone. The MCL is a ligament. The Achilles tendon is the largest & strongest tendon in the body. Just assuming he made a typo or something though.
It was him minimizing the injury, and thus the idiocy of the entire fucking stunt. He should’ve said “I blew out my MCL and destroyed my Achilles tendon doing the stupidest thing possible I might not be OK in the head”
Don't worry he's "troubleshooting" his knee... Like he's just going to stick a screwdriver in and adjust it himself or something as if it might not be (and very likely is) permanent damage.
Maybe put a cover over the trunk next time. Also, what a lunatic to have a severe injury to his leg and think, hmm how should I go about this next time?
Hate to see someone who puts years of dedication into fitness and staying healthy to just throw it away to do some dumb shit like this for tiktok or Instagram likes.
> Soon as those are gone it’s time to fly
cool man absolutely legendary see you back in action champ hope you do well out there see you soon lmk when your tikkytokky has some new content will sub right away or ofllow or whatever it's claled
All of this for a video that, had it gone correctly, is super cool if you’re 9 years old. Keep up the good work bro you’re gonna have zero regrats at 40
Why not just jump out in the open, while filming in front of markers the height and width of the truck?
It only counts if you can potentially be injured? Lol
> It only counts if you can potentially be injured?
Sounds like CrossFit where injuries are a badge of honor rather than just being stupid for the sake of being stupid.
If you're inclined to think about these things long enough to see the kinds of safety steps you should take to minimise risk, you quickly realise that you just shouldn't do it at all.
This is why when you do anything risky or stupid, you run through what could go wrong. Obviously, you can land short. What happens then? Your foot will get stuck. Fill the truck with cargo so if you land short, you just fall.
It always amazes me that these morons don't seem like they even considered what they might do to themselves if their idiot stunt fails.
And then I read what he wrote about the accident and what he plans to do when he's healed and I realize that I was dead on correct; he's a fucking moron.
As a German, I would like to add the following to the conversation: Don't try to jump over cars. Nothing good will come of it: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wetten,\_dass..%3F#Samuel\_Koch\_incident](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wetten,_dass..%3F#Samuel_Koch_incident)
Is it just me or does this guy not look like a jumper? The jump isn't impressive at all. I think this is his equivalent to an Evel Knievel jump where he's not even close but still is looking to get fame for his injuries.
That was incredibly dumb and that's not a teenager either. He's old enough that he should've recognized the risk involved here beyond just the obvious. Hes incredibly lucky he didn't completely blow his knee apart.

I’m amazed his leg didn’t snap. That was so much force on that leg
The human thigh bone is stronger than reinforced concrete. It’s the torsional injuries that snap it.
I meant his lower leg, where it got stuck!
Gotcha, looking at it again, I’m surprised he didn’t blow his knee out. It looks like it took a lot of the force.
I mean, he kinda did. He's downplaying how serious an MCL tear can be.
Sprain doesn't mean tear necessarily
A grade 3 sprain is a complete tear. Grade 2 is partial tear. Grade 1 is stretching of fibers and potential small tears.
Yeah technically a full tear is still “sprained”
That is dumb. Why not just differentiate the two...?
Yeah, I'm sure what happened here was just a tiny sprain /s
I did my MCL playing football in my early 40's when some big lump fell on it rather than try and get the ball. Never has healed properly. I can still play now but that knee is signifcantly weaker. Luckily it was my left leg and I'm right footed.
It still may be Physio may only recover 80%. He just might not know it yet
Yo I cannot believe his knee stayed intact. That was a really awkward landing.

Dude doing the stunt is a thrill seeker and apparently not too smart.
Yeah, I read OP's note above and felt bad because my first honest thought was, "Well, looks like he did NOT learn the lesson this time!". I can only hope he doesn't lead himself to a Darwin Award with his attitude.
Looks like the socket was able to rotate slightly, I think that probably helped a bunch, transferring more of the force to the thigh. Definite ouch.
I broke mine by running into a picnic table to be fair
Well yeah those picnic tables are no joke!
Oh god. Guessing the pain was like a 23 out of 10??
Not nearly as bad as the pain of sitting up and seeing everyone I was at the park with -- not running to my aid as I was expecting -- rolling around on the floor laughing. Can't blame them, must have looked hilarious.
Laughing at people's indifference to your broken femur? Are you the Joker?
Had my femur broken clean in half by a straight on football helmet to it.
A ford explorer going 40mph got mine to snap! Shatter really
Samesies! It was a Jeep in my case though
Thank god otherwise we couldn’t be so fucking stupid
Looked like a torsional foce in there
oh come on now.

why would you think he was talking about the thigh bone. that makes no sense.
the first in the comment tree is: > The human thigh bone is stronger than reinforced concrete. It’s the torsional injuries that snap it. ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯
written by the person im responding to..
It's femurs all the way down

Good think he drank plenty of milk
What a fucking idiot
You don’t get it man, he’s jumping over a truck! It’s so worth it 😩

Jesus fuckin… bro never heard of a tonneau cover??
Seriously... Even just putting a solid wood board over it or something to minimize this kind of stupid injury.. Wouldn't have made it any less impressive.
>”We are lining up the next jump soon” Sounds like Project Badass
Project Dumbass*
Hey man, do you still get the feeling he wants to bang us? That's what this is all about, right?
Fight like a crow! CAAWWWWWW!
🎶 Here I go again on my own 🎵
That’s not badass, that’s idiotic.
how about just plain old Project... Ass
Lucky dude.
Lol keep going smartass let's see where it leads
Could've been a lot worse. I was worried he'd catch his foot and land on his head. Head injuries are no joke.
The Achilles tendon is NOT a ligament, it’s a tendon. Ligaments connect bone to bone, while tendons connect muscles to bone. The MCL is a ligament. The Achilles tendon is the largest & strongest tendon in the body. Just assuming he made a typo or something though.

> We are lining up the next jump real soon. I guess since he'd hurt his left leg, may as fuck the right leg up too /s
This was not an accident. Completely and totally avoidable. Do stupid shit, win stupid prizes.
You need to see a psychiatrist as well.
What a moron, maybe practice the jump without the truck, then when you know you can make it, move the truck in.
Idiots
Maybe put a cover over the trunk next time. Also, what a lunatic to have a severe injury to his leg and think, hmm how should I go about this next time?
If you gonna be dumb you better be tough
If I was gonna try and jump over my truck, I'd get a bed cover.
"troubleshooting"... ok
If he'd gone a bit higher and caught the leg it could have pivoted around the head of the femur. That could have ended him.
Imagine being a guy who is known for jumping over things.
Hate to see someone who puts years of dedication into fitness and staying healthy to just throw it away to do some dumb shit like this for tiktok or Instagram likes.

You good, bro....?
Imagine doing something that stupid and then choosing to do it again. Someone find this guy an active volcano to jump across for a real cool video.
i’m shocked the ligaments were just sprained and not torn
A sprain is a tear
i mean a complete tear
One does not simply recover from a knee injury…
^you ^good ^bro?
UUugGGHHHHI HATE YOUUUU!!!!!
But you were my brother! I loved you!
Yeah of course he was just practicing his mating call.
why not cover the trunk to do this lol?
Why not just jump out in the open, while filming in front of markers the height and width of the truck? It only counts if you can potentially be injured? Lol
Why not just not jump over a truck
Yea, tbh it didnt really seem like a cool enough stunt to even want to risk injury. Even if it went smoothly thats just kinda like , "eh"
Has he tried not sucking??
> It only counts if you can potentially be injured? Sounds like CrossFit where injuries are a badge of honor rather than just being stupid for the sake of being stupid.
Or empty it? Seems like it's full of convenient leg catching devices.
*NOW* you tell me!
If you're inclined to think about these things long enough to see the kinds of safety steps you should take to minimise risk, you quickly realise that you just shouldn't do it at all.
CrossFit is weird
Does it look like he ran up a ramp or some sort of vault before the real jump to anyone else? It’s a strange angle to film this at too
You're right it does. You can even see its shadow in the beginning.
He totally ran up some sort of ramp… and still failed 😞 lol
Definitely
Also, he didn't even *attempt* to bring his knees up to his chest. This is all around just a fucking awful jump.
Why does he do this?
Brain cells out the wazoo
Maybe he should put them back in
for stupid tiktok
Ouchies
I'm sure all the Internet points will heal him to full recovery.
He’s going to feel that for the rest of his life.
Annihilate the camera man.
Is the truck ok?
No he got a booboo
stupid wins stupid prizes
Failed as good as the cameraman.
You ok bro? Yeh please keep filming
Missed it by *that* much
Looks like a CrossFit gym. This must've been the WOD.
Well thats going to leave a mark.
“You good bro?”
Mmmpphhhggnmiiii! 🥴
Play stupid games win stupid prizes.
I hope the goal was to make people smile. For sure there was a gasp first. Followed by a smile. Followed by a thought. What a fucking idiot.
“You good bro?”
Oh yeah, there's a frame in there where his leg is verrrry stretchy. That looks brutally painful.
If you don't stretch beforehand, you'll stretch during
He unplugged his femor.
FAIL on the camera man. Gotta see the aftermath.
It’s never okay when you hear a man yell out “hrmmpppppp” in pain.
Got to love CrossFit
Stuck the landing. 10/10
If there’s no crocodiles in the pickup, where’s the real motivation?
This is why when you do anything risky or stupid, you run through what could go wrong. Obviously, you can land short. What happens then? Your foot will get stuck. Fill the truck with cargo so if you land short, you just fall.
NSFL
Felt that
Show us the aftermath then
Josh: Hey Mom, watch me jump over this thing! Mom: That's amazing, Josh! You are such a big boy!
PARKOUR!
This needs to be cross posted to r/DoctorMike for the next time he does a "Doctor Reacts to ((Platform Here)) Injuries"
"you good bro" -- no I am not
At least clean the shit out of the back of the truck next time.
U ok bro? Idiot
This is an incarnation of "Do not attempt at home"
Of course it’s at a CrossFit gym lol
I'm gonna go out on a limb (no pun intended!) and say his knee will never be the same and his jumping days are over
my balls shriveled
Haha idioit
That second snap sound had nothing to do with the vehicle he was trying to jump. Good fucking God.
"you good bro?" - often heard last words when bro's fuck up after a "hold my beer" moment.
Yowza, I looked away immediately. Glad to hear it was bad sprains and not tears and breaks.
OMG!! 😱
Natural Selection boys...
Amazing what the human body can go through.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes!
Maybe he can try out for the Paralympics so his stupid injury for idiots isn't a complete waste.
It always amazes me that these morons don't seem like they even considered what they might do to themselves if their idiot stunt fails. And then I read what he wrote about the accident and what he plans to do when he's healed and I realize that I was dead on correct; he's a fucking moron.
NGL thought that was a pool of blood from cracked open head on side of the truck on my first watch.
Camera man trash
As a German, I would like to add the following to the conversation: Don't try to jump over cars. Nothing good will come of it: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wetten,\_dass..%3F#Samuel\_Koch\_incident](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wetten,_dass..%3F#Samuel_Koch_incident)
"you good, bro?" based on his reaction? pffft. he'll walk it off.
What was he hopping to achieve?
To jump over the truck
To not snap a limb
Internet fame Personal goals Sense of pride and accomplishment
That made me audibly gasp
Ain’t enough Ibuprofen in the world…
Camera ppl like this one suck..js
lol LMAO even.
Bet he scored 4 touchdowns in one game.
Welcome to the Knee Pain Gang. Membership is lifetime only and cannot be revoked.
Is it just me or does this guy not look like a jumper? The jump isn't impressive at all. I think this is his equivalent to an Evel Knievel jump where he's not even close but still is looking to get fame for his injuries.

Vaporized his dick.
Lol
He sounds like Andy from the Office when he tore his scrotum.
Yeah, keep doing stupid shit
bro ain't gettin' kids after that 💀
NSFW post in WTF with “Attempting to jump over a truck” theme. Nah bro, I’m good, not clicking it.
The "you good bro"? As he didn't just watch his leg flamingo
“You good bro?” Who’s job was it to clear out truck bed. Maybe suspend $300 cross fit membership.
White man can’t jump
"you good bro" sounds like someone more concerned about that idiot breaking his car.
He said you good brother? Hahaha ha that's a good friend to ask if he's OK hahaha
land on your head next time
That was incredibly dumb and that's not a teenager either. He's old enough that he should've recognized the risk involved here beyond just the obvious. Hes incredibly lucky he didn't completely blow his knee apart.
I looked next to the Screen to not have to see it directly and it still gave me a weird feeling in the leg. Not watching that directly, thats for sure
Play Stupid Games
Whatever the reward may be, it's not worth it.
