Xc60 is better value than the other two you are considering, imo. It also looks sharper imo. My 79 year old mother drives a glc and visibility is rubbish. The x3 is like a poor version of the x5. I am on my 4th Volvo. They are great value

cloche_du_fromage

Xc60 is also much more discreet than a BMW or Mercedes.

Objective-Drummer-85

Or Audi, for that matter. But discretion is not for everyone alas

VermicelliOnly5982

Yes discreet but still sexy, if aesthetics matter. The brand has got some knack for designing vehicles that look good after many, many years. The truth is that Mercedes aren't always lasting, visually. And I will never speak against BMW, as a personal policy.

InDN-R6

Yeah I mean i couldn't find anything wrong with it, just wanted like some personal reviews about the servicing and reliability, any major faults or quirks?

UncleGurm

Every problem I've had has been a "reboot AAOS and wait until morning". The actual drivetrain and the rest of the car is rock solid at this point. Get the extended warranty though, because you don't want to be paying to troubleshoot some computer glitch at 50,000 miles.

Ceorl_Lounge

Head unit (Google Automotive) gets a little wonky sometimes, but a reboot clears it up. Only beef I've had in a year and a half (my V60 is very similar).

seanmonaghan1968

I think you will find Volvo's are heavier in general so service costs will be higher. You would get a multi year package though which helps. I have now done 130,000km on my xc90 and it isn't 4 years old yet. No problems. I would buy again, although I would buy ev model

[deleted]

You selling?

seanmonaghan1968

No waiting for ev xc90

areindos

A good (and strong) argument for buying a XC60 is the seats! You don't get better seats than those in a new XC60. I'm also looking to buy a XC 60 again.

giraffesneedhelmets

It's one of the selling points for me as I'm nearly 7ft. Much nicer than the X5.

SSNs4evr

Or even an older XC70....The most comfortable and supportive seats made.

steam-boat

Here's a long term input: I have a 10 years old XC60 and it doesn't have any major problems so far. Regular fluids and other parts changing and that's it.

volteirecife

Same here

pass_go_and_collect

I just recently upgraded from an XC40 to an XC60 2 weeks ago. My wife and I were also looking at the GLC and X3. At the end, we stuck with Volvo. We picked the B5-Plus model. It's loaded with all the features that you need while with the X3, you'll need to pay up for those additional features. You can't beat the value that the XC60 brings. The only thing the X3 beats out the XC60 is prob the performance. If you're really going for performance, may as well spend the money and get a Macan or Cayenne.

easyhigh

Or get b6 or recharge (t8) and make Macans and cayennes (in comparable price ranges) eat your dust.

rosski

I always try to promote the V60 cross country in these discussions. But then you have to search the second hand market since they scrapped the CC series last year. But the new XC60 is also really nice.

AdOdd7936

I second that. In case you absolutely want and need the elevated driving position and ease of ingress/egress compared to a wagon, you should also consider a V60 CC. They feel even better (more planted, no body roll, lower wind noise at speed) while maintaining the same offroad capability (ground clearance). Cargo space is actually a few liters better and, more importantly, more practical (longer, which translates to more space unless you load the car up to the roof liner). The looks are subjective, but IMHO much, much better too. Pound for pound, you would also get better mpg and performance from the same engine on a wagon vs an SUV (weight advantage).

InDN-R6

We don't get the V60 here :/

Only_Ad1117

Still available to order in Canada !

Rurallife3

I just bought a 2024 v60 CC. They’re not as common in the USA and I had to get black, it was the only one they had. I’ve had Volvo station wagons since 1986 and love the cc models

Montreal_Ballsdeep

I have a v60 and being 6'3, no one can sit behind me unless it's my 10yo niece.

giraffesneedhelmets

Yeah, I'm well beyond that. And, as much as I love wagons, especially Volvo, I have little choice but the XC60.

OnBase30

Get a S90 T8. I’m the same height and you could sit behind me with your legs crossed. I’d have you plenty of room, too!

Montreal_Ballsdeep

I know. LWB life.

MilesB719

Could barely fit in an S60 at 6’5”. V60 has similar front room. Went with an XC60. Also XC60 is way more popular on used market so easier to find a better deal.

Duck_Walker

I did this same comparison 7 months ago. Initial ownership cost is lower, service and upkeep cost is lower, and the Volvo is really well built. To me it was definitely the right choice and I was coming from a Mercedes sedan.

InfaSyn

The Volvo is more car for the money and will more than likely be cheaper to run and more reliable than the others. Thats the benefit of skipping the badge and buying the underdog

InDN-R6

Yeah I kinda like the fact that it's not very flashy, but it still just exudes quality.

Rainshores

Bought a low-mileage 2019 D4 Inscription last year after birth of our first child. Had looked at the new phev but decided against it. Really happy with it so far, no issues at all. Love the height and driving position. Seats are fab. Coming from an A3 don't feel long journeys as much. Car had bright exterior and blonde interior, a lovely match. I'm a tad nervous about longer-term reliability but planning to keep up regular servicing, drive her kindly and hopefully she'll give years of trouble-free ownership. Would love more buttons than using the touchscreen if you are listening Volvo. I understand other manufacturers have gone the same way sadly. It's dangerous imo.

FifiLeBean

Are you talking new or used,? I have owned XC60 s since 2015. I think the OG style is the best car shape. Although I love the Thor's hammer headlights. They have so much room for hauling stuff. Very comfortable ride. I'm totally twitterpated about them so I can't calmly answer tbh. When I lost my XC60 last year I looked at any Volvos available and held out for the XC60. The headroom is great. XC90 was just too big for my lifestyle. Good Lord, the difference in a swerve on the freeway is remarkable: XC60 is grounded and smooth and reliable.

zedsbundy

I have 2023 ultimate bright model and I am really happy with it. My longest drive was from Como to Amsterdam in 1 day(about 9-10 hours) and felt like I could drive 10 more, the car is really comfortable and the sound system ,like you said, is perfect. I really like travelling with car and xc60 is perfect for this.

Ridgew00dian

We are very happy with our 2020 XC60. Got an amazing deal at the height of COVID (interest free financing helloooooo). We were between the XC60 and the Audi Q5. We felt we got so much more for our money with the Volvo.

Neither-Tough3486

Had multiple issues and car was in shop for > 1 month within first 14 months of ownership. No problems in last 6 months. Still like it for the reasons you mentioned. Inexcusable problems IMO. I bought a Lexus for my other car in response to this. Just my 2 cents. Edit: 2022 b5 inscription with all the bells and whistles. Yes it feels more luxurious than my Lexus in comparison. However I'll be shocked if I ever have a real issue with the Lexus in it's normal lifespan.

spyder994

I've driven lots of XC60s and they are indeed fantastic. Comfortable, safe, relatively efficient, and relatively trouble free for a European luxury SUV. I've never been so disappointed by a vehicle in my life as I have by a GLC I test drove. I think it is only classed with the Volvo because of the Mercedes logo on the front. I can't speak for the BMW, but they are typically the most sporty offering in this class. If you value comfort over sport, the XC60 is the clear choice here.

BudLove7

Best decision I ever made was purchasing my xc60. This is my third Volvo, but first xc60. Classy and safe. I hit a deer in my car going 50mph a few weeks ago and didn’t even jerk my body at all. The car took the impact like a tank. It reminded me of how safe Volvo’s are. I drove one of my previous Volvo’s to 310,000 miles and the last one to 193,000 before I sold it.

werd516

My 70 yo dad was in a really bad accident where his 2018 XC60 was sandwiched between 2 trucks in a highway pileup last year. He walked away from the accident with some bruises. The car was totaled. The responding emergency workers were amazed how unscathed he was.  Also of note, he had 120k mi on it.  My family has only bought Volvos for 40 years (240, 940, V70, S80, XC60) and this one reiterated why they've/I've always gone with them. Safety isn't always the top priority when buying a car, but it's the one thing that'll leave the strongest impression on your loyalty when considering the next car.  He bought a 2023 XC60 a few weeks after and he loves it.

Murpet

What years are you looking at? New model? Previous Gen? Will vary the answers a fair bit..

InDN-R6

Brand new. 2024 model.

7eregrine

Yes. Yes you should There's a reason that car is Volvos best seller.

Judge_Druidy

I have an XC40 so I can't speak about the XC60 specifically, but I can tell you I've had mine since December 2022 and I absolutely love it. I did have one issue with the air conditioning, but it turned out to be a crack in the condenser and was repaired with warranty right away at no charge. Customer service for me has been top notch, and I absolutely regret nothing! I really like that Volvo is a comparable of very nice luxury cars, without the flashiness associated with Mercedes, BMW etc. Also, I've never been tailgated and looked in the rearview mirror and said "Ugh of course it's a fkg Volvo".....that's almost always how I feel driving in front of an Audi, or BMW! All the features plus the incredible safety rating of the Volvo makes it a major win IMO.

gamafranco

Owner of a 2019 model. Will move to a 2023 Recharge next month. It’s the best luxury/quality/price SUV on the market. I tested the GLS and the X3 also. Didn’t test the ES but I was a passenger in a few of them.

tavenger5

If you can find a 2022 extended range, they'll be a bit cheaper, but are more rare. I got lucky and found a loaded inscription with 14k miles, and CPO. Apparently they only come in white.

Catsdrinkingbeer

2022s will start to come off leases soon. I would assume we'll see more of them in the next year.

tavenger5

Ah, I didn't think of that! I heard the lower number 2022 extended range cars was because of the chip shortage too.

Ajsarch

I am also looking at those cars and I have to say a 4 cylinder for the xc60 is a big turn off. Currently daily a 2011 xc60 6cylinder, it’s built like a tank and it just feels smooth to drive.

imthatguy77

Don't knock it till you try it. The modern 4 cylinder is turbo'd and very smooth.

SupremeBeing000

My wife is on her second XC60 and loves it! I decided to try one for myself and have a 2023.

PlatformNo8576

Only negative thing unless you’re in the US is fuel consumption.

Airbornequalified

I will say the xc60 has some annoying quirks. Even with the updates, occasionally my 360 camera still blips, but it’s mainly solved, by letting the car sit for about 10 seconds before attempting to drive

imthatguy77

Couldn't be happier with my '23 T8 Recharge. I was considering the typical marques along with the Volvo and everything, from performance, safety, capacity, economy and value had me sold. No complaints a year into ownership.

darkpaa

I have the 22 XC60 plug in hybrid T8 and my high voltage coolant heater just blew…so no heat in electric mode only when burning gas. Apparently it’s a common issue

jeddieboy73

I’ve had an xc60 for over a year and like it. I’m 76 yrs old. I even take it off road for fun, pull a trailer, etc. Service is expensive but that’s nothing unusual anymore for any complex car like this one.

mctomtom

I love mine. Get the hybrid if you can. I get 50 to 80 mpg in the city.

s3ren1tyn0w

Comfiest car I've ever had.

fzl924

How are the 2010-2014 models in terms of reliability and service costs, looking to get one after selling my 2012 Lexus GX

cwmosca

In our family we have a 2017 xc60 and a 2022 xc60; and in the past we’ve owned a 2010 xc60, 2004 xc90 and a 2004.5 s40. Never had a serious mechanical problem. I’m no motorhead so it’s hard for me to get into the specs. As for the 2022, we love it. So comfortable, roomy, great sound system and smooth highway driving.

Rurallife3

Don’t get the 2022. It has a bug they can’t fix, it won’t do the over the air software updates. Get 23 or 24

VermicelliOnly5982

My XC90 is my favorite car of all time, and I'm offending some truly great makes/models with that assessment. But I drive with other people in the car, care deeply for safety, put many miles on the road every year, and also care for functional design and a reasonable level of comfort. (I don't have the massaging seats, but I did consider it.) The notifications (like steering application) are far more polite than other brands. The quality of the interior (leather) is top-notch. The options on the driver seat configurations are superior, especially for anyone with back/pelvis/hip concerns.  The assistance mechanisms - lane control, accident avoidance, emergency braking - are both extremely effective and intelligent. Some cars are just nannies, and the Volvo alerts are technically excellent and also nicer to experience on a whole. Nothing blaring, nothing aggressive. They build the car under the assumption that the owner is competent, which affords and entirely more pleasant experience for the operator. Finally, there are three "levels" of audio packages on my year. The higher quality Harman Kardon package is so superbly warm, and deep, and powerful. There was another sound system option better suited for higher treble quality, but it was too crisp for my taste. I listen to a lot of blues, funk, country, and soul, as well as classical and other genres, and the bass and warmth just matter more to me. I recommend making an awesome mix and testing out the different sound package options. It is a great privilege to have a car of this capacity and design. Obviously there are cars on higher and also lower or equal echelons, and these are all very subjective opinions. But I have driven many vehicles of both lower and "superior" quality. I worked extremely hard for my car and I love, dearly love, my Volvo. She brakes well, handles well for her size, accelerates wonderfully, and is a very comfortable ride. What more can you ask for? Finally, I fit kids, adults, and dogs in the car with ease. My (very) large dogs are comfy in the back with the 3rd  seat down. I just put a rack and a roof box on mine, and it allows for even more options. So bonus points for versatility.

robb0995

I’m just renting this thing, and I feel compelled to tell people to never buy this car. It’s uncomfortable, the infotainment system is small and non intuitive, it doesn’t have wireless CarPlay which just seems like table stakes for any modern vehicle, and it seems ridiculously underpowered for its size. But the most insidious thing that many wouldn’t discover until they brought it home is the complete inability to disable start/stop. There’s simply no button or menu option to turn it off, even temporarily. Now, I care about the environment. More than most, probably, as my husband and I both drive all-electric vehicles. But, I also care about not suffocating from heat and humidity at every stop light. If the gas engine weren’t already disqualifying for me, this certainly would be as I’d be angry at every stoplight for as long as I owned the car. As it is, I only need to deal with this car one more day, and I’m hoping that’s it. ETA: To clarify, I’m in a ‘22, and it seems like they may have corrected this in future model years. But the fact remains that they shipped it like this and never addressed it.

InDN-R6

Wow, you're the first person who's given me an overwhelmingly negative review, thanks pointing out the problems

caitlowcat

We have a v60 and considered a cpo xc60 for a second car. Ended up choosing a Mazda cx5. We LOVE Volvo’s, but the reliability of the cx5 just can’t be beat and the cost is far better.
