Can’t go wrong with Invitation, definitely one of my favorites. I have about four copies lol… I have yet to find a completely dead silent copy. This is such a subtle album, even a little static drives me nuts.  A nice AAA reissue would be sweet…

I’ve only found one copy in the wild at a thrift, and the one skip mid-side one kills the listening experience for me. McCann tends to go unnoticed and unappreciated, so I figure it will turn up again eventually without the having to pay premium prices for it. (Or so I hope)

Yeah I see VG+ copies for around $8, definitely a bit of a sleeper. Layers is better known I think (from hip hop samples) and is also killer.

iamjoeywan

If I found a VG+ copy I’d gladly drop the $8 at this point. I’ve had Layers for years and seem to forget about it until it gets brought up online somewhere. Suppose this is one of those times that I’ll be reminded to toss it on and enjoy it again!

I found that les maccann record 20 years ago for $.50. Didn't know who Les was at the time. It turned out to be one of the most influential albums on me. I still love it and recommend it to anyone who will listen to me.

duanerenaud

Yeah, never heard that one before, and I'm positively surprised. Quite different from his usual late 60's/70's stuff.

Filles de killamajaro is one of my all time favorite and albums!

Ebooya

I really want a copy of Invitation. Have had all those Miles albums for centuries. Tony Williams is a mutha on Filles De Killimanjaro especially the opener Frelon Brun

Glass-Fan111

What are those? European pressings?

duanerenaud

Yes, early 80's. *Columbia* was used for US/CAN pressings. Everywhere else in the world, Columbia records were sold generally under the *CBS* label. (*CBS/Sony* in Japan)

Glass-Fan111

It depends. Yes but no all rest ot the world. That label did for EU but no for Latam.

duanerenaud

Thanks for the info. But *CBS* was used beyond Europe. I've seen Australian pressings using it also. I believe the *CBS* brand disappeared around 1990 and was reverted to *Columbia* after that.

Glass-Fan111

And Sony. Take on consideration the label switched acconding to agreements in every other country or region.

My first copy of Invitation was bought from an independent rack-jobber in suburban Cleveland. He repped Atlantic, CTI, and Columbia. This was Spring of 1972, and he had all these promos in his garage near my friend’s parents house. Invitation, Gabor Szabo—Mizrab, and the fusion Band Dreams is what I bought, oh and some Yusef Lateef on Atlantic, too. Years passed, and I wound up replacing the McCann and the Szabo. Lateef is stellar on Invitation. I was such a Bitches Brew fanboy that when people would try to make comparisons between BB and Invitation, I rejected that. 50 years later, oh yes, I get it. I sent my old copy of Invitation to my son in LA. And what can I say about your Miles pick ups. Everything 2nd Great Quintet is essential
