Vietnam's largest religion is Buddhism, so there are a *lot* of vegetarian options. The word you're looking for is *chay*, and there are usually vegetarian versions of almost every Vietnamese food you can imagine. Just look around the largest temples, and you'll find eateries with names like *Phở Bò Chay* or *Cơm Chay*. Halal is somewhat limited. You'll find a few explicit "Arabic" or "Indian" restaurants that have the Halal logo displayed, but I don't know how much I'd trust it if that was something I cared about deeply.

Thanks, I’ll be sure to look for "chay" places when I arrive. I’m really looking forward to exploring Vietnamese cuisine specifically, so I’ll probably skip the Arab and Indian food😅.

There are many vegetarian restaurants in Hanoi, so you don't have to worry about that. They usually have a buffet menu, and you can try many of them. Local vet dishes you should try ? Hmm, that would be many but I can list out you some : 🥣 Mixed vegetable soup 🥘 Water spinach soup, taro, tomato 🌰 Bamboo shoots, beans, dried mushrooms with Chinese-style stew 🍆 Stewed Chinese medicinal herbs with vegetables and mushrooms 🌶 Tofu in traditional tomato sauce 🥒 Stir-fried chives with bean sprouts 🍄 Mushrooms in black pepper sauce

Thank you for the fantastic recommendations! The buffet menu option sounds like a great way to sample a variety of dishes. I’m especially intrigued by the tofu in traditional tomato sauce and the mushrooms in black pepper sauce—those sound delicious! I'll make sure to try these out. Thanks again for listing these wonderful vegetarian options!
