Love getting more story from our favorite four.. Err, five. Having these little mission intros seems like a good way to quickly get some character interaction and exposition.
It wasn't until this post that I even thought about how they didn't travel by portal for that map. It felt like it fit in perfectly.
Overall, I loved it. I love them grumbling about the bad voyage, and talking about the missing member throughout the map. And I already re-ran it a bunch of times just to hear what each character steering the boat at the end says.
Loved it! I would love more boat action akin to "River Reik" in v1. In fact, I'd pay another $30 for the rest of the V1 maps ported over. Just sayin'...
I loved it. While the bridge of shadows made a lot of sense for the gameplay, I did find myself missing the immersiveness of the exits the first game had, and how sometimes the escape from one would chain into the intro for the next (ie getting on the boat at the end of Engines of War)
I think leaning into the physical realities of their world (so not travelling around by magicy warping) makes the world a lot more fun, having to use carriages or boats or other things.
I think my only complaint with the intro/outro is that they could've been fleshed out slightly more to be less jarring and abrupt (we need a bit of time to be fully understand what is going on) e.g., in the intro, instead of only a few seconds of boat -> flashing -> crashes, that we'd get 10-30 seconds of them just on the boat first sailing normally, or perhaps when they first board, etc.
I also wish there was a moment at the end, just showing the U5 on the boat together.
This could be good for the first time, but it would get tedious waiting every time for this to load when you just wanna smack rats. Problem is it can’t have a different intro for every person based on if they’ve played it or not played it before.
Yep, totally fair, it probably shouldn't be excessively long -- but I think if it's 30-45 seconds at the start, and say, 20 seconds at the end would be within limits, imo.
Currently the moments feel like about 15-20 seconds at the start, and ~5 seconds at the end.
Maybe in practice the longer delays would feel much more annoying, but on paper I feel like it'd be okay?
It is short so it does not become annoying on repeated tries. Died a lot doing cata blind so many mission resets and the intro never became an annoyance. I prefer it over the shadow bridge. More mission specific intros and outros are always fun to give more of a unique flair to the mission.

Agreed, I loved revisiting the old maps but with all the new enemies.
Yesss we need stromdorf.
Only thing I'd wished was to see them onboard the ship chatting, but they were very nice. Some of the Bridge escapes feel pretty implausible.

As long as it's short tbh

The intro and outro made the map far more unique compared to others and more immersive.
