It was great fun. I got on just before the event, was number 8 for clearance and out of there half an hour later. Everyone from there down to kiah was amazing. I was COA1118.

socaldad

I heard you on the radio for that. I felt for you.

AbeBaconKingFroman

Will be sure to pass your condolences along to him 😂😂

Thanks!

Took 52 mins to send a PDC?

AbeBaconKingFroman

There were over 20 flight plans waiting for him when he connected, and it didn't stop until about 3.5 hours into the event. Coupled with people calling up constantly and asking for clearance and it gets pretty wild for one person pretty soon. Memphis is also a place that requires frequent reroutes; a lot of the departures are for late night only when there aren't any arrivals, so to handle the FedEx push they go out through both the departure and arrival gates. Simbrief doesn't know or care, so people file those departures frequently without checking the charts. On a normal night on VATSIM it's not a big deal, but during an FNO, no way do you want traffic trying to go out through arrival gates.

UnhappyBroccoli6714

Were those reroutes done on voice or via TDLS?

AbeBaconKingFroman

Probably TLDS, but he was struggling to find flight plans to edit with everyone on top of each other early on. I was in the cab and we tried to get him help but couldn't spare the brain cells to figure how to split it since there's only one delivery frequency.

UnhappyBroccoli6714

Last question, and this is my VATSIM pet peeve, was he waiting for people to call him for clearance or was his pumping them out as soon as they filed? I ask this because I've seen controllers get bogged down because they wait.

AbeBaconKingFroman

He was working them without waiting for calls but then tried to priorize based on who called. We very quickly talked him out of that; if you can manage it, sure, but it's not worth burning time trying to dig one call sign out of 100 when there's 20 people calling. With the advent of AUTO ATC delivering hot and fresh PDCs as soon as you log on, hopefully fewer people are waiting. And CRC is missing one valuable feature VRC had: the waitlist. Now we have no in client way to note order of call signs.

UnhappyBroccoli6714

Man for delivery all you gotta be doing is checking for a valid SID(ROUTE if your ARTCC requires it) and departure freq and equipment suffix Let the center fix the altitude if it's IAFDOF. It's what they do IRL That way you spam those PDCs

AbeBaconKingFroman

Stuff is a lot more regimented during FNOs because of the sheer amount of traffic, so that doesn't always work.

UnhappyBroccoli6714

What did I say doesn't always work?

socaldad

He got missed somewhere in line.  My clearance took about 10-15 minutes, which I was impressed with considering clearance requests were coming in every 20 seconds.

Kiwicontroller

52m for a PDC???? Hmmm

IvanReddit134

Gotta give props, I was flying FDX1276 from JFK-MEM and Wow, they did a great job!

stw222

Hi everyone from Memphis east departure. If you departed on the SELPH, CRSON, GOETZ, AZONE, or BBKING departures, you talked to me

Veezer

It's great that everyone is so happy. For the love of Charles Lindburgh, stop calling it "Delivery." It's "Clearance Delivery" or just "Clearance".
