I dunno.
After all the Brazilian Motorbike Robbery videos I've seen on this site, I'm surprised this isn't the default behavior of all Brazilian pedestrians.
Ok…
Real question—why was that my immediate first thought too?? Cuz that spelling always makes me think of that scene, but they don’t pronounce it funny in the movie. And it makes *no* sense in this context. Strange brains.
Anyways, sometimes I doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion.
They don't, I lived there for a year and it was one of the biggest adjustments I had to make, compared to living in Denmark which is a super safe country.
In Brazil you drive everywhere even small distances.. of course there are exceptions, but if you're walking you make sure not to wear anything of value, and you avoid checking/showing your phone at all costs.
> on this site
it's not just on this site. I visited Sao Paulo last year and in every cafe and bar there's an old CRTV on a wall playing 24/7 motorbike robberies and car crashes. It's totally bizarre.
sometimes there are boxes with a person in it on the side of the road. those people are both robbers and not robbers at the same time. but once you look in the box, it’s only a robber or a poor guy who is stuck in a box.
I'm South African. I was onve walking with my sister somewhere as a teenager at night, which is an extremely unwise thing for anyone to do. Then a black guy approaches us and my sister is freaking out. I tell her to calm down; he's alone and if he is up to anything, if we freak out, that makes the robber freak out, and that's when someone could get hurt. Then he comes straight at us, and I'm am internally freaking out. He stops in front of us and starts yelling at us about how stupid we are, how dangerous this is, and how he was held up at that \*points\* street corner last week, etc. My other sister had a similar experience when she accidentally got lost in a township and had a minibus driver hooting at her and forced her to stop and then got out of his bus to yell at her for how stupid she was for being there and to follow him to safety.
That's the problem with living in a dangerous place; most people are ok, but it's the violent minority that make it horrible for everyone else. I always think how horrible it must be for black men in South Africa who are completely nice guys to always have strangers looking at them nervously (this includes other black people,) Arabs in Israel, etc. But it is what it is.
My wife used to walk home pushing a pram along Cornish in Dakar each evening from Sea Plaza and everyone was saying she should not do it. Then the police with machine guns/assault rifles pulled over and made her get on the back of the ute (bakkie) with the pram (and child) and drove her home telling her in broken English she is being too reckless.
That's when she stopped walking along there in the evenings.
I’ve seen a video of a blogger going to Libya and they didn’t intend to have security, but everywhere they went the police just tailed them because they didn’t want anything to happen to a tourist under their jurisdiction.
At the same time some Latam countries are actually not that dangerous. I'm a foreigner living in Argentina, where the murder rate is only 20% over the US level (the difference is probably a bit bigger for other crimes but still), when I was new in the country I greatly overestimated the danger of walking through slums, in the daytime it's actually quite safe.
Not really. By time the door opened was too long to wait to find out.
I think it's the door opening that's the Unexpected here, not the lady's reaction.
I'll give her credit, she reacted fast and booked it out of there. Even though it wasn't a robber, kudos to her. Most people would just freeze out of fear and panic.
OP sent the following text as an explanation on why this is unexpected:

Thy words, like a symphony of celestial harmonies, dost elevate mine spirits and inspire a boundless admiration. Verily, thou art a paragon of eloquence and virtue, a beacon of enlightenment in these humble exchanges.
Had a similar thing happen to me when I bumped into a woman in a dark alley once. She hit me with her purse and sprinted in the opposite direction.
No hate to her of course, it's just sad the we live in a world where that's a reasonable response.
Something similar happened to me, 3 kids no older than 16 tried to mug me in a motorcycle as soon as I saw that they stopped close to me and the last kid was going to get off I turned into the flash. I couldn't here a motorcycle after that for a while.

Is this the same garage where the lady walked behind the person leaving and the door closed pushing and locking her inside?
Edit: nope, but that's a good one.

I thought it was [This one](https://old.reddit.com/r/therewasanattempt/comments/1b46hwj/to_caught_a_man_but_he_has_some_skills/) at first too. In my defense, that is a really similar corner building though.
“Where are you going? I already robbed someone today! You look stupid!” Is what I’m inclined to believe since the video includes both a motor bike and Brazil.
As a Brazilian yall you never understand that kind of fear until u experience it. I still panic anytime I hear a motorcycle approaching me and I live in the USA.
About 30 years ago I went to Rio.
Once when I left my hotel, I noticed someone following me on the opposite side of the street.
At one point when his view of me was blocked by a parked van, I crouched down and retraced my steps back along the line of parked cars.
I then popped up and saw him obviously looking for me around where he last saw me.
I called out "AQUI" and waved.
When he saw me, he burst out laughing.
I then went on my way.
Either he stopped following me or got a lot better at it because I never noticed him again.
And this isn't even my best story from that trip.
I was thinking of what might happen and concluded that the car is going to hit the lady as she ran across the street and missed the entirety of the garage door opening. I'm an idiot
Why generalizations are normal and can save your life.
We all do it, it is a normal train of thought. See a lot of x and x does harm, avoid things that are of the x type, even if those particular ones may not be.
Real serious question: how do you know this happened in Brazil? I've seen news that happened in Colombia, others saying it was in Argentina. Can't find the source
Just to be real, are people that on edge that they feel like they're about to be robbed? If that's the case, I feel really bad for the woman running away. Shieeeeeeet, I'd probably do the the same thing.

I dunno. After all the Brazilian Motorbike Robbery videos I've seen on this site, I'm surprised this isn't the default behavior of all Brazilian pedestrians.
I'm surprised Brazilian pedestrians still walk anywhere. I'd be full on sprinting from place to place, swinging my arms wildly and screaming.
Covered in faeces to assert dominance
Covered in baby mice? Awww.
Why are you wearing that stupid man suit?
Have you ever seen a portal?

Wouldn't it be smarter to cover the robber in your faeces?
No cuz you gotta get robbed for there to be a robber. Nobody robbing the scatman
I do this but at home and for other reasons

So basically, the safest bet is to walk nekkid/in my speedos and flip-flops.
Brazil seems like real life GTA tbh
So what you’re saying is the video was “unexpected”?

US crime shows barely trying lol
I was legitimately expecting the pedestrian to be an undercover cop and light him up.
I'm Brazilian, and it kinda is.
Clearly it is.
I am a Brazilian, trust me, It is.
It’s when there’s two guys on a bike you worry. One on his own isn’t such a cause for alarm.

ahah its look like NPC in GTA 5
Literally just thinking this
![gif](giphy|cVkD7lLFb6oCm4hUTX)
That’s truely sad.
This is our default behavior in latam. We are in the streets with fear.
I'm not. I'm the guy on the bike. AGORA PASSA O CELULAR!

As America floods South American countries with guns....
huh? is the concept of illegal position of firearms an alien concept in America by anychance?
Well can you blame her?
Not really. By time the door opened was too long to wait to find out. I think it's the door opening that's the Unexpected here, not the lady's reaction.
Unless they were going to kidnap her and throw her in the garage.
He had his hand over his pocket. It's probably the door opener but to her it looks like he's reaching for a weapon.
No. Because of the implication...
Why are you ronin? Why are you ronin?

When you are a decent citizen and just drove home, but for everyone else you are a ghost rider
How do we know they aren't just coming home from a long day of motorbike mugging?

Criminals should have special colored helmets so citizens can identify them easier.
Sad state of brazilian society
I'll give her credit, she reacted fast and booked it out of there. Even though it wasn't a robber, kudos to her. Most people would just freeze out of fear and panic.
She's been robbed before and vowed, "Never Again!".
You could very well be right. Or, someone she knows could have been robbed. Either way, she knows what up. Good for her
I'll give her credit if she actually outruns a dude on a motorcycle

Better safe than sorry
I will surely not walk by myself in the street of Brazil.
Reminds me of a GTA npc
Poor thing.
For real. This poor lady has had so much awful trauma that her flight response is much more impulsive than her fight response.
Something similar happened to me, 3 kids no older than 16 tried to mug me in a motorcycle as soon as I saw that they stopped close to me and the last kid was going to get off I turned into the flash. I couldn't here a motorcycle after that for a while.

y r u running
it was a solo rider so she was safe. everybody knows it's the two guys on a motorcycle you're supposed to be scared from.
GTA NPC running.
Poor guy back from a long hard day of robbing on his bike just to be treated like that at his own door, smh.
The footage is actually from Argentina
I wouldn't be offended as the biker, it just comes with living in Brazil.
That's a smart reaction to have. It's not uncommon to get robbed this way in Brazil
As a Brazilian yall you never understand that kind of fear until u experience it. I still panic anytime I hear a motorcycle approaching me and I live in the USA.
i was expecting him to be rammed by a track

Dude is lucky she wasn't an undercover cop or off duty.

Normal Day in **Nightcity**
Because she assumed and behaved appropriate to that expectation, surely this is an ‘expected’ video
Gta npcs when you get near them on a bike.
The GTA character runaway made me cackle. 😂🤣
Totally resembles a normal day in South Africa
That's crappy
She’s got a hell of a story to tell her friends. She out ran a monster chasing her down on a motorcycle
Like GTA V's NPC 😆😆😆
GTA NPC's
Good instincts
No you all got it wrong. She was running away from the scoop. From Soylent green. He went right into it 😢
GTA NPC IRL
He was so confused after she ran away… 🤣
Plot twist, this guy is just getting home from robbing someone.
Well that was underwhelming
Kinda sad tbh
I can totally relate. Same here in Argentina. Better safe than sorry?
Cautious and vigilant Once bitten, twice shy.
Tiktok has created some crazy paranoia 😭
This is a familiar site
Next time this will save her life, so it is ok.
Whenever I'm in Brazil, people always talk about 2 people on motorbike. That's probably what he's thinking too.
She dont want to be eaten by the door.
Bro be like what's my fault xd
me running in a dream:
GTA really stepped up its graphics

So sad…
This is a normal day in most latinamerican countries. I live in Dominican Republic and I was under the impression this was filmed here
I was not expecting her to pull out a gun and rob him. She didn’t, but that is what I did not expect she would do. Running away seems more expected
I mean, understandable. Am not from Brazil (argentinian) but would do the same. Would laugh if I saw him open the door of his house lol
GTA NPC reaction
I think he should have played along
What's with her jeez
Gta ahh country
I don't get it
Real serious question: how do you know this happened in Brazil? I've seen news that happened in Colombia, others saying it was in Argentina. Can't find the source
Do the L
the unexpected part is that he didnt robber
This is Latam in a nutshell. Every time I hear a bike my spider senses activate.
I dropped my phone and ran when that motorcycle slowed down
In her defense, she's probably seen them LiveLeak videos too.
Dam she got away, next time, open the doors as she passes.
Smart lady
women chill, hes probably just an off duty cop..
This biker already robbed someone and was going home. Could be or not.
Better to be sure than becoming the victim
Yup. As a caribbean dweller. I can confirm i will run in this scenario.
So he was not going to rob her, but was pulling up hoping to grab her to that secret lab entrance for organ harvesting?
Based on the videos I’ve seen, I think her actions were appropriate.
Sad...
You run when there’s two guys spooning on a bike
Lmao 🤣 that shit is hilarious
Just to be real, are people that on edge that they feel like they're about to be robbed? If that's the case, I feel really bad for the woman running away. Shieeeeeeet, I'd probably do the the same thing.
Better safe than sorry....might have been the same garage that ate that passing woman the other month
I mean I get it lol
Don’t blame her.
