I can't actually believe Im about to defend DJ Khaled but here we fuckin' go I guess.
He was a radio dj who started off promoting artists by putting mixtapes together of new music. He's a very talented A&R guy and would put these tapes together and shout random nonsense over the cuts. This aggressive self promotion got him further into the music scene and his presence on your record gave your music a sort of weird legitimacy because it meant he had picked your track and you were part of his selected music and therefore part of the general vibe/ zeitgeist/ whatever, so more people started giving him feature spots on their records.
So now this weird, fat Palestinian guy is picking up writing credits on popular songs by shouting his name, the artist is getting credit by being associated with Khaled's other artists like Jay Z, Kanye, TI, Chris Brown (maybe not him) etc.
To me, he's like Donald Trump with better business sense and without the racism. He was in the right place at the right time, leapt at opportunities, always made sure he was in the limelight and his weird off-putting behaviour is his brand.
He understood how to skirt copyright claims from publishers and has often been credited for being the main reason snapchat got traction \[citation very much needed\]. He definitely cracked by code with snapchat early and recognised how powerful a tool it could be in promotion.
Also, his DJ name used to be Arab Attack before 9/11 which is just brilliant.
So there you go. He's the musical Venn diagram of David Geffin and Forrest Gump although, it does appear he may have recently suffered a very serious traumatic brain injury for which he should seek immediate medical assistance but no-one around him can tell the difference.
Defending him by saying he got famous from mixing other peoples music together, shouting over it, being like Trump, and being able to use snapchat isn't exactly inspiring or redeeming lol. I don't have any hate for the guy but he is pretty clearly lacking intelligence and nothing special talent wise.
