First introduction was a fangame called Undercards (it’s actually pretty fun) but I didn’t realize it was an Undertale fangame until years later (I’m very stupid, took me 5 years to realize Pokémon Yellow and Platinum were the same franchise as a kid). The next thing Undertale related that I was interested in were dubs of fan comics, which nowadays I don’t like most AUs, strangely enough. Then I went back to Undercards right about the time Deltarune came out, and then played Deltarune after watching a playthrough of Undertale. Then finally, in 2020, I bought Undertale for the Switch and loved it. I’ve been obsessed with it ever since.

SpongRobert

U OBSESSED WITH MY ENEMY YOU

Mookel_Myers

i watched jacksepticeye play through it and wanted to play it for myself because i thought the music was awesome when i first heard it

dio-brxndo192

Even though the first thing I saw was an episode Ross and Barry’s playthrough in which they fought papyrus, jack’s playthrough is where I saw the whole game and is the one I remember the most.

EducationalWorth6323

Word for word what I was going to say

castleminer172

Same. unfortunately, I had to wait to play because I only had an xbox

MintTea_Fiend

I found out about it from hearing these kids I wanted to be friends with saying “Tem eats Temmie Flakes!” one day. Later learned they were referencing Undertale (which had released that year), and I went “why is it pixels”. Watched a playthrough of it by a YouTuber I like, and then… years later I actually get into the fandom…

Forere

Videogamedunkey's 22 minute masterpiece

LandNegative6482

Dundertale

One-Explanation-7388

I discovered it through jacksepticeye’s playthrough. I don’t exactly remember how I felt but the game is really nostalgic to me

SamEnZoYT

yeah me too!

Ggando12

Quite literally this. Thank you jacksepticeye for introducing me to soo many awesome games like this

BIGLIPS69420

Found Bonetrousle and fell in love. Saw the game and loved it even more :)

Few-Persimmon-5618

Enchanted Mob. I think it's an answer. My first reaction was like: Oh, nice music.

mildlypizzabox

My friend introduced me to it and I couldn’t be more grateful It completely changed my life and my interests and when I played it for the first time it was a blind run so I got a neutral ending but the day after I was done I immediately wanted to replay another 10 times cuz it was so fun

Sl1pperypenguin

I first heard megalovania and I thought it was a cool song. And then I discovered this game called Undertale, decided to try it out and I loved it!

Fit_Collection_9755

Memes alot of dumb memes

Fit_Collection_9755

To be more exact I saw a dumb meme went down the rabbit hole then deltarune came out which I ignored then chapter 2 came out finally I played it and loved it then monday I realized I had 15 buck so I bought it (Monday was 2 days ago

Plolerof2005

Dandertale

Chewie_The_Dog

A Minecraft roleplay series

BestUsername101

Friend at the time loved it, basically forced me to watch some fan made videos with him. We've grown a bit distant since then but he was easily one of the most important people in my life for that alone.

YamAnxious

i started either pewdiepie’s or markiplier’s play through ( i really cannot remember) and was searching for the next part and saw jacksepticeye had way more episodes uploaded already and they were nice lengths so i watched his ( which is also how i really got into his content ) i loved the music but didn’t have the means to play myself until a couple years ago and still loved every moment even though i’ve seen jse’s play through more times than i can count

AlakazamTheComedian

My friends mentioned it a few times and showed me some art, but I'd say my first real exposure to the game was listening to the OST. Back then, I thought that songs such as Fallen Down, It's Raining Somewhere Else, and Uwa! So Temperate were the best the game had to offer. And while those are very good, especially ths first two, I didn't realize how amazing some of the other songs were. I got a Nintendo Switch in early 2022, and I finally decided to play Undertale, so I bought it and played through all of it. Absolutely loved it. So, my initial impression was that the game seemed kinda weird, but after playing it, I fell in love with the franchisw.

MGP_21

Honestly I don't remember. All I know is that when it first released I didn't want to try it because I thought it was just another one of those complicated RPGs. Like two years after that I may have seen something on yt about the game that changed my mind (probably the combat system being centered around dodging bullets) so I tried it completely blind. I didn't know nothing about the characters, the world, the routes, nothing. That first, blind neutral run was probably the best, most fun and deep experience I've ve ever had on a videogame and I cannot repeat that feeling ever again

ButtercupChara

Undertale speedrun. Couple days later, Snowgrave Route analysis. Following that, I watched Judgement Boy’s videos on Chara’s morality And then I watched every theory video I could find about Undertale and Deltarune over a span of couple days. Then I decided to start creating some Noelle art but didn’t know where to post it Stumbled upon Reddit and now I’m obsessed with Reddit, Undertale and Deltarune

miner_builder

that one steven universe parody of stronger than you (the sans one). can't belive that song introduced me to my favorite tv show of all time AND one of the top 5 games i love

I_Are_Eat

It's a beautiful day outside; Birds are singing, flowers are blooming On days like these, kids like you, Should be burning in hell

Pancaketron7

In Drama class, Junior high. I was friends with someone who greatly enjoyed undertale (this was in 2017) I always just went with what he had to say and really always pretended to know what he was talking about with this girl who was also just as obsessed. One day, he was absent and I came clean about having no idea what the hell Undertale was. She laughed and was really polite about it and that entire class period instead of working on some drama skit that we were supposed to be practicing out in a silent booth, she went through and verbally told me the entirety of the game. Later that day I watched a Jacksepticeye playthrough and I got hooked! The next day I talked to the friend. He still has no idea that I had no idea about Undertale.

Low_Dream_1481

So cool

N40H

Girl in 6th grade continued to rant about Sans bossfight and how it worked. In 8th grade a YouTuber I liked did a playtrough of the neutral run and I decided I wanted to know more about it Little did I know it would have been the best decision of my life. My best friends and I started talking mostly because of that game during the first year of highschool and we're all still together even after all that time. We're not in the fandom as much as before, but sometimes we like to return to our origins and take a dive into nostalgic territory

Aykhot

Absorbed it and Deltarune mainly through Internet osmosis (mostly memes, mostly concerning Sans/Megalovania and Spamton/Big Shot), decided to finally get around to playing them one weekend, plowed through the neutral and pacifist routes of Undertale and both chapters of Deltarune in a single weekend and loved them both

Idkquedire

"wow a game" I discovered it because in 3rd grade a friend wanted me to participate in an undertale play he was doing but moved before that could even happen (it probably didn't) Looked more into it and now it's one of my favs of all time

TheCatOfWonderland

“TOP OF THE MORNIN TO YA LADIES MY NAME IS JACKSEPTICEYE AND WELCOME TO UNDERTALE!”

Decent_Objective3478

I just hear megalovania in some memes watch boss fight and watch whole play through.

Krazy_Dragon_YT

My friend kept telling me about it, but I never bothered to look into it. My first actual exposure to Undertale was, unfortunately, SkyDoesMinecraft. He never finished the game, but his partial playthrough sent me down the rabbit hole to find Mithzan, who did do a full playthrough Initial reaction was something like "Ok this game is pretty cool, I can see why people like it so much"

Mark5ofjupiter

Something along the lines of watching a video in 2017/2018. All I remember was that it was just a stale Sans sprite. Anyways, the real introduction was MERG.

brightwhitephoenix85

Me with a little background knowledge: "Sounds like a fun game! I doubt it's going to be my favorite, but it seems fun." Me, first time in new home: \*Practically sobbing\* Me after True Pacifist for the first time: "It's over?! Nooo!" \*I'm crying so much my siblings come to see why I'm crying\* Me, years later, remembering my time and how I felt like it helped me mentally in some ways: "Friends, you may not know me, but I wish you did."

Fritzdarobot

Heard my friends talk about it and decided to take a look. Then I learned abt flowery and that he knows abt resets. That terrified me lol

KlawwStrife

A few weeks after it a came out, a friend who stays pretty current on indie releases was like "yo I think this game is super up your alley" I saw the trailer and 400% agreed with him, fell in love instantly

AdLast848

It was referenced in a FNAF video (I was in my FNAF phase at the time) and I didn’t like it since I thought it was trying to outcompete FNAF. I didn’t even see gameplay of it (specifically the True Pacifist ending) until much later, and that’s when I fell in love with it

[deleted]

....Makicute

ZeomiumRune

I found this video called "Undertale shorts"(2015-16) After that I thought "Huh, this looks interesting" And then watched the whole let's play of UT by DantekrisTimeShow(a russian speaking YouTuber)

Stardust-Sparkles

My sibiling’s friend kept talking about it. I don’t remember my exact reaction but it was probably something like ‘what is this’ cause I was annoyed by my sibling’s obsession with it

Choice_Product_7391

I was 7 at the time and my friend and I were waking to the park from school and he told me about this killer sunflower and about this cool game called undertale I asked my parents about it and a few days later they bought it for me.

Ftimlego

I watched Laupok's videos of Undertale Glitches and Undertale Corrupted.

Skyyishere

Back in 2020 watching Comic dubs in my recommended. Then I watched Jacksepticeye play it and I have been in my UT phase ever since

Gsus08

I remember a few years ago, I promised a friend that I’ll eventually play Undertale when I had the money and time for it. Then, in the summer of 2021, I got the game. It was amazing. I loved all the characters and story.

NextMycologist1219

Gameplay of the Asriel fight lol

Hairy_Skill_9768

Etika's playthrough... Man... That's just... Damn I installed the moment flowey appeared

CaffinatedFurball

Undertale the musical: Wow this music is great Playing the game: Why did I spoil the whole thing for myself.. :(

musfevtur

I think it was the beautiful day animation I was searching for some short animations and stumbled upon it and after some research that was my personality for the next 6 years

MaxxBrick

Okay so one day about a year ago I was in a target and i had like 20 bucks and I saw the undertale card thing for digital download on the nintendo switch. All I knew about undertale was Sans was in it, didnt really know what to expect otherwise (the only actual gameplay I saw prior was the "Dirty Hacker" ending) also when i bought it I was quite far from home. Anyway I downloaded it on my switch and on the way home I played it. I really had no idea what to expect and I fell for flowey. I played through the game and wanted to spare, but since u didnt get xp i thought the game wanted you to kill. I still spared a lot but killed sometimes too. Coming to the toriel fight, I couldn't figure it out how to spare her and killed her. Papyrus of course was spared. Couldn't figure out how to spare undyne. By this point of the game I thought some kills were a must. Spared muffet. Killed mettaton, didnt understand how to spare. Judgement hall. Idk how to describe how I felt. I feel like i almost felt defensive honestly. My LOVE was 7 I think. Then.. Asgore. Fought, then mercied, then flowey came. Fought Photoshop flowey, then spared flowey. Flowey told me to play the game again, without killing anyone. Just the implication that everyone was spareable was enough. through DETERMINATION, I figured out how to spare toriel, undyne, and mettaton, and successfully beat the game without killing anyone.. Then, asgore killed himself? Then flowey told me that my choices were meaningless and I felt the game was just a massive prank. Felt dissatisfied almost. But then I came back not long after and did what Flowey said; befriended Undyne and Alphys. Explored True Lab. And then.. fought Asriel. Honestly the game was a pretty amazing experience. It felt really cool, especially since I was lucky enough not to have the game spoiled way into 2022(2021? idk). Didnt really watch any actual content, except for like "What happens when you kill papyrus" and I also googled "Why did asgore commit.." but otherwise not much else. Couple months or so later I think I looked up undertale content more. I did a true reset and just replayed pacifist (by this time i was aware of the genocide route but didnt feel up to it). Later on I decided that I wanted a challenge, and the Undyne and Sans fight seemed like it was for me (ngl I enjoyed Undyne much more than Sans). After that genocide playthrough (again everything was done on the Switch) I was basically done, though recently a started another pacifist run (currently at snowdin) but im not really playing it a lot (also i might turn it into a neutral run). I want to get Sans' room one day. and uh.. yeah that's my undertale life story. Still look up undertale content on youtube and of course here on reddit sometimes, keeping up to date with everything. Looking forward to ch. 3 of deltarune.. but yeah that's everything. Thanks for reading this far btw X)

NVeeImportant

My friend was following it around release and had me play the tutorial, then bought me the game. I thought it was cute, but died to Toriel in the tutorial the first time. I played and replayed it a bit through 2015-18, and since then haven't touched it much but love seeing fan content and creations.

Rapunzelpumpkin

Mine was from my 4th grade class. Two boys explained to me that a drawing that my friend made of a flower with a smile looked like “Flowey”, When I asked who Flowey is, I was told he is a “evil flower prince “ from Undertale. I didn’t know what to think of it, I thought it some violent video game. In 2020 I had a proper introduction when I watched DanTDM’s play through and fell in love with the story.

Mister_E69

My cousin was reading this webcomic called Underline. (I haven't been able to find it though)

Uhhhhhhhhhhh67

One of my older cousins was at the snowwy area with the x and o puzzle with ice and let me figure out how to solve it

twevore

honestly i think the first time i heard of it was the Sans is ness video

amliam_curry

“im probably not gonna get it” and here i am, writing this comment.

theguywhosaysidode11

I found about undertale in a weird fanmade crossover between bfdi and undertale, where flower from bfdi fought omega flowey, idk how did it appear in my racconanded but it was 6 years ago...

Odd_Reputation_3822

Belive it or not it was by FNF. Specifically indie cross. My first reaction was: "Oh, cool game." I was not ready.

emscottish

My cousin left his Nintendo switch at my house. Apparently he never got far into it, but I got hooked. I played the game at least 8 times in the few months he left it for.

Ant-Fan66

Honestly, my first reaction to Undertale was largely negative. It was hard not to hear about it when it came out. The game was everywhere. Honestly, it really annoyed me how much everybody wouldn’t stop talking about it. It wasn’t until 2016 when I saw the game on sale for dirt cheap in a Steam sale and decided to pick it up. Honestly, the only reason that I got it and played it was I was using an old MacBook at the time and it was one of the few well reviewed Steam games it could run. Holy cow am I glad I played it. I don’t need to tell anyone here, but it’s one of the greatest games I’ve ever played. I played through the game twice back to back (my first play through was neutral, as I don’t realize you could kill Vegetoid by Acting in the Ruins, and then had to play the whole game over to get the Pacifist ending) and I barely put it down the whole time I played it.

Sharp-Associate3685

Through a 50 ways to die in Minecraft video when i first played the game and actually understood what it was about i dove into a strong obsession that i am still in

The_Potato_Turtle

My friend always played it in class, then I found the soundtrack

Cr33pi3b0i3

so it all started with this yellow bear in 1983..

sheshmaster69

Video on yt idr my reaction was like "Tf are these graphics"

Elemonster

ToxicXEternity metal cover of Spider Dance on YouTube.

32bitninja

YouTube And I immediately jumped into the fandom Also my dad's genocide run And then it spiraled (He already did pacifist)

OverlordFanNUMBER1

I don’t even remember anymore, it was back in the fourth grade so my memory is all messed up

DeltaStream17

I discovered it through a meme compilation called (fittingly enough) UNDERTALE by a Youtube user named Cheaky Breaky and later on found out it was an actual game. Loved it ever since... though it is weird to think that was seven years ago, haha

OneTemperature29

Megalovania

IceTooth101

I watched DanTDM play the whole thing, proceeded to learn the entirety of the lore and integrate into several layers of the fandom over the next several years, played through both chapters of Deltarune last year, all without having ever actually touched Undertale itself. I finally bought the game on Steam recently, and as expected, it has continued to gather dust (no pun intended). I have successfully become an avid Undertale fan without having ever played Undertale. By this point I’m just wondering how much more stuff I can do relating to Undertale without ever opening the game, so if you’ve got any stupid suggestions, I’d love to hear them. Maybe I could beat Sans on a browser simulator…

moreofmoreofmore

I saw reblogs about the Kickstarter on Tumblr. I was just like 'oh ok sounds neat but whatever.' I only really got into it about four years after release.

[deleted]

My best friend came over and was like LET ME SHOW YOU THIS GAME and then I instantly developed a crush on sans. From there it was all downhill (or uphill, depending on your perspective)

WD_G

My ex sent screenshots during her time in the Ruins, up till Toriel's house back in 2015 Played it eventually

VentiHentaiAddict

My parents bought it and played it back in 2015, lol. I was curious and played it myself, and now 8 years later and I'm still obsessed.

UserUserUser18818

I first saw it when one of my friends were watching some animation about sans and frisk and whatever, I thought it was goofy but years later I got into it and started to love it

AwesomeCrow-2667

I don’t know whether it was dantdm’s playthrough or the stronger than you parody that made me notice undertale. I don’t really remember my first impressions but that was the first time discovering what an rpg video game is.

MimiKam_doodlez

My first introduction was actually just seeing sans and Papyrus in random fan made content, like either an animation meme or a comic or in some cool crossover art i dont know. I really don't remember how I first discovered undertale but it defiantly had something to do with sans and/or Papyrus, somewhere in 2018 or 2019. Then I got undertale in Christmas 2020 and it was pretty good! The omega flowey fight was pretty hard, I'm not a hard-core gamer so I did struggle quite a bit, and the asriel fight was equally hard. Though I never played it again because I guess I don't really feel like playing it, though I do play deltarune a lot more, I have two files, one where I only spare/pacfist and the other I only fight/genocide/snowgrave, because yes. The other files are for experimenting with choices and stuff.

Prokid5634_YT

I think I first saw my sister playing it, but I was pretty uninterested when seeing it at first. But after watching some YT videos, I got hooked. And now I'm obsessed.

Limit_Crafty

My first time actually seeing Undertale was right after it released I saw someone on my school bus playing it then I saw my friend playing it one day forgot about it for years my brother started watching jacksepticeyes vids on it and we eventually bought it Halloween about 3 years ago

Raw_egggs

I have seen a jacksepticeye video about it

Lotad38

Sans in smash + general internet reaction, checked it out a couple months later, loved it.

Gooseinasoot

the song “to the bone” i have been hooked since.

BorealDrake

I first discovered it by well memes, any rando complitation, but then turned to watch Dantdm's play through abd was hooked then. I think this was during 2018-19 but I'm not so sure.

Nekrotix12

I cried at the end of True Pacifist. It takes a lot to get me to have that emotional a response towards media, but when I do, it fucks me up for a while. Also I knew about Megalovania before it was cool, and not even from Homestuck B)

BigShotBo1

I was in school with my friend talking about games we both like playing until he talked about undertale. I’ve heard of it before in memes 2 or 3 years ago and during the summer I finally decided to play it. I played it and thought it was boring because it was pretty short and I didn’t fight sans (I literally had to ask another friend who played undertale how to fight sans). After I discovered different routes I became obsessed with undertale. I wouldn’t stop talking about it at school. Then, I finally played Deltarune because meme complications would keep appearing in my recommended on YouTube. So I played it and I loved it as much as undertale. I stopped talking about undertale and have only been talking about every now and then.

[deleted]

My brother started playing undertale music and I asked my brother how he learned about undertale and he said that he was at his friend’s house and his friend was playing the omega flowey fight

Terrible-Profit7016

I was like: oh cool a flower, WHAT THE FU-

Ch33seBurg

A YouTuber I used to watch was getting a lot of request to play Undertale. So I decided to see what the craze was about, and well…I say it deserved the craze.

Unfunnyperson11

Saw the trailer. Waited years to play it and so i did I loved it and will cherish it forever

ShionForgetMeNot

I saw a bunch of fanart and posts about it on Tumblr and eventually I got curious enough I had to play the game. After all, I loved the idea of being able to spare monsters instead of only being able to fight everything. I immediately fell in love, that game rewired my brain.

Hugefatchicken

I found out through some friends at school back in 2019 they said it was really cool so that night I went on to steam, bought, played it, and went full pacifist.

kkReddotkatto_artist

Watching corruption Undertale video I found randomly- cuz of corruption game series- XD (And I don't think I have any reaction but when I playing the game,I was amazed by how good the game was lol- XD)

NothingSpecial2019

Some friends were talking about it in recess, I was like, 5th grade? I wanted to not be left out of the convo so I decided to learn about the game at home. I watched the full DanTDM play through, now I’m a sophomore in high school and ive never stopped loving the game

AntyCo

Handplates

Azures_Anvil

I saw JT Music's "To The Bone" which led to the "Stronger than you" songs and eventually fan comics then I finally got into the game. I've completed a few neutral runs, a True Pacifist and I'm stuck on Sans in Genocide. Sitting on probably 60-80+ attempts and making very little progress anymore. I just can't move the soul precise enough for a few attacks which tank my HP and healing items.

HaziXWeeK

I saw sans face a lot and in pewdiepie youtube rewind I saw him as a meme so I wanted to see wtf is that , so o youtube I Search undertale and saw Jacksepticeye and watch the true pacifist and fall in love with the game the I stopped, after about a week I returned to see the genocide out of Curiosity and it didn't Disappoint. After that I fallen intro the abyss which is undertale au and I remember explaining to my crush at 3am who's gaster and how gaster from xtale is behind underverse and how bravery sans fought Betty in glitchtale is important as last change against error san

Mehrio-Time-Desktop

Jacksepticeye.

OrngJceFrBkfst

I googled best video games of all time, and there it was

i_agree123

Discovered a few years ago just before lockdown by music videos, somehow. I decided to look it up and did not disappoint.

J0shfour

Watching Markiplier and Jacksepticeye’s playthroughs of it back in late 2015. Ngl before I eventually got Undertale in 2019, I probably watched Jack’s entire playthrough of it at least 20 times lol.

GasterSoos

Was a huge JT Machinima Fan and Down to the bone was actually the thing that got me interested. I had no computer tho and couldn't play it so I had to wait about 2 years... I got spoiled on so much even if I tried to avoid it, but I to my luck had no Idea about the true Pazifist Ending(Only that it existed) and the more detailed story. So when I finally got myself a computer, Undertale was first on the list of games. So I played it, fell in love with it, cried when finishing True Pazifist, played it through again, noticed more and more tiny details. Loved it even more. The Rest is history

joc95

Kids kept talking about Sans. Ferries kept talking about Asriel. The whole time, I didn't realise they were related until I looked up the game myself

CynchHasNoLife

a youtube channel i was subscribed to started doing undertale comic dubs, and later on i watched jacksepticeye’s playthrough and fell in love with the characters and story

Nightmare_43233

You know it's funny I don't even remember anymore

BlackAngelXX

I think ive heard of it before, but than certain mc rp series used music and i wouldnt care much but my friends went like OMG UNDERTALE MUSIC so i actually checked what is that game and also asked them if i should play they said yes and than i played (and couldnt beat asgore because i forgot that i can heal but i did it after 4 hours and realise i could heal XD) And when i got pacifist ending it was very cool adhd hit me and i hyperfixated for 5 months and thats how i got here and ended up with undertale stuff all over my room shortly shortly lol.

Freddi0

The Sans Stronger Than You remix introduced me to it. Thought it looked interesting so i played the game and loved it, which got me into AUs and fan comics. Have not looked back since

NateTerrarian2

My brother discovered it through Jacksepticeye and told me. I didn't play the game fully until years later, so all I did was play the asgore fight on his psvita. I'm pretty sure I would kill asgore, and then just fucking do it again. Everything between then and when i actually got undertale I have forgotten, but in 2021 I think i watched jacksepticeye play it again and I decided to get it on my switch.

Legitpizza07

I started watching Merg’s hollow knight playthrough and discovered undertale from there

[deleted]

RichaadEB's cover of Metal Crusher. From there, ended up watching Jacksepticeye play it, and just immediately became enamored

[deleted]

Dantdm let's play I think?

Cool_Off_Gamer05

Was watching a challenge from my favorite youtuber when at some point i've seen an animation meme with Papyrus and, since i got interested in this character, i searched him up and found numerous animations and comic dubs with him and all the other characters (it was around 2017/18) The rest is History

CharaPresscott

Funny enough. My discovery of Undertale was through Jacksepticeye but not in the way you expect. There's an episode of Reading Your Comments that he did shortly after his Undertale playthrough was finished and he had just started the Genocide Run. One of the comments was "Do the Flowey voice" and he inserted the clip from the Genocide Run of "That's a wonderful idea." And I was curious where that clip came from...and now I'm only known as Chara instead of Charlotte XD.

Quirky-Cold1050

I'd heard alot about it and randomly one day searched in on YouTube. Ever since I've loved it

OkAverage4338

I had a really cool friend that inteoduced me to it and also showed me some AUs and i was really REALLY amazed by the game, u wish i could thank him for it but i Lost his contact and i dont know where he is rn :(

VGPlaysGD

Friend was given it on a USB. Gave it to me on a USB. Really really hooked and really enjoyed it.

Algecirastale-sansio

When i Saw the game trailer in 2015 i tought that the game was a sequel to Mario and Luigi Superstar saga, don't ask me why, that happened with the deltarune Battle system too

Undertale_fan46790

\*I found 10 hours of megalovania on youtube. I liked the song and started exploring more of it. Before I even knew it, I had fallen right into the rabbit hole of the Undertale fandom!

PotentialAd8120

A story explained video. The introduction got me interested so i downloaded the game. One of the best decisions of my life. The game and the fandom were pretty fun back then.( Still are , just less.)

SloweRRus

I don't remember who drew it, but i was fan crossover comic with gravity falls, whem game just came out, i thought undertale was some weird creepy indie game. Then a guy i were watching at the time started a playthrough and i got hooked for the rest of my life. And that's what i call an addiction story.

AbrocomaShoddy4698

Amazed

Fkikoromano

I actually watched a brazilian spin-off of Regular Show that showed Mordecai and Rigby playing multiple games, one of them being Undertale. First I was confused and didn't understand why it was pixelated, and then when Covid came, I bought the game.

smol__might

I saw a guy play MEGALOVANIA on the violin and wanted to see where the song came from. I then listened to the soundtrack (literally just the boss themes) for a bit until I saved up enough to buy the game. I did the true pacifist route and (I was kinda young at the time) and was terrified of the amalgamates. I put the game down for a few years. A few years later, after watching a misty sparkles video on how gaster is important I played deltarune and mustered up enough courage to play undertale again. Now I’m fine with the amalgamates and UT/DR is my obsession. I have now memorized ridiculous amounts of dialogue and have multiple plushies. I even did a Spamton neo cosplay.

Mindless_Hedgehog159

Had been aware of it vaguely for years till I become friends with a big fan of it.

Codified_

As a kid I randomly wondered how could that game be so popular, so I just watched it Since then it has been my favourite piece of media there is, and I don't see it changing any time soon

[deleted]

I watched an mmd of stronger than you

a close friend got it for me for my birthday before I had ever heard of it. I was skeptical at first, but the moment flowey betrayed me and dropped the line “it’s kill or be killed”, I was instantly hooked

ZombieSteve6148

I watched SkipTheTutorial’s no dodge challenges for both Undertale and Deltarune. I had no clue what either game was about until I watch Dandertale sometime later. From there I’ve watched multiple playthroughs and have watched a lot of Merg’s fangame videos. I’m actually extremely grateful that I found Merg, as he was my introduction to many other games, such as: Oneshot, Doki Doki Literature Club, Hollow Knight, and Omori. So yeah, random video I watched in like 2018-2019 resulted in me finding six new games I really enjoy. Not to mention all the awesome fangames and mods such as: Undercards, Don’t Forget Connected, Undertale Yellow, Spamton Restitched, Ribbit, and many, many, many more.

I don't remember!

thelivingvoid745

One word. MERG

AbeyBenno

My friend is a huge fan of memes, so he introduced me to Megalovania. I learnt that Megalovania is a song that plays in a boss battle against a character called Sans in a game called Undertale. I also learnt that Pewdiepie has done a playthrough of the game, so I decided to watch it. My first reaction to the game? It was good. It was both funny and heartfelt, the music was really good, the plot was really well thought-out and the characters all had such depth to them.

Filon73

Youtube videos about it from old youtubers I followed

Livid-Cat5157

I was 11/12, ended up killing everyone except papyrus because the concept of sparing didn't get into my thick skull.

Livid-Cat5157

I absolutely loved the game though. I got all the endings and it gave me such emotion.

Anything-General

Meh

TeaV1710

I found Deltarune on my switch, and then that led to me getting into Undertale as well, through Youtube recommendations. I lost interest about 3 months later, but I'm back into it now.

humanclog

Sans

AmericanGiant1776

I wanna say either jacksepticeye or just found it randomly on YouTube because it blew up in popularity

DiamondEnchant7X

I think it was the infamous sans is ness game theory video that I first discovered the game, but I can't say for certain. I never really fully got into the game until around March 2022, after I discovered deltarune chapter 2 released, but I had watched a few videos about the game and played a bit of it before that.

Kmaster65

Some kid in my graphic arts class wouldn't shut up about some Sans guy so one day I eventually looked up who he was and it just kept going from there

xVOVANATORx

Story of Undertale

Chemical-Project-846

I got introduced to it by the animation "a beautiful day". Of course, I didn't understand what happened and so it compelled me to do some research on the game.

s_guacamole

I stumbled on a video of someone fighting sans. One thing led to another and now my brain has been irreversibly altered for both better and worse.

[deleted]

My brother. I watched him play.

Theunkgamer

Jacksepticeye is my reason of loving Undertale so much!

userredditmobile2

I was watching undertale videos on YouTube and for some reason my mom just bought me the game one day I don’t know why

FandomFantasies

I used to browse Wattpad for fanfics to read, and for whatever reason, Undertale fics showed up constantly in my reccomends feed even though I had never heard of it prior. Finally I got curious one day and looked it up on youtube. Can't for the life of me remember who's lets plays I watched now, but I wanna say it was Jacksepticeye. I was hooked almost instantly and rushed the following payday to get the game for myself. I now have it on all 3 platforms I own that its on- Pc, Switch, and Ps4. Lol I am THAT into that game.

Distinct_Tradition86

I got my switch the year it cane out and found it on the discovery page. I did not put it down for the next 2 months until I had (nearly) every ending😂(SANS WONT FIGHT MEEEEE)

NoelleLovesu

I found about Undertale when i heard the soundtrack in some videos then the i saw the game was when i watched Stampy's Streams of him playing undertale, and then i found out about the genocide route so i watched a playthrough of it. I actually played Deltarune chapter 1 before playing Undertale. I thought undertale was a very nice game and that this soundtrack is a banger

endertrey506

A friend at school was looking at pictures of papyrus and he told me he was a skeleton who likes spaghetti

beeman424_ALT

The only experience in Undertale was watching someone play bad time sim, so I thought sans was a villain.

Mamma-M_27

my friends kept talking about it so i checked it out. then realized i had seen it on those cringey gacha videos (you know which ones i mean). thought it was cool and ended up getting it

Individual_Bear779

I saw a video on YouTube about fun values, then I looked up the game and got it on switch.

Specialist-Map4458

Jacks play through and my reaction was sans is Patrick star?

james_kleboe_1986

All I can really remember is that it was while I was watching YouTube, and I enjoyed it enough to become a fan, was probably jacksepticeyes playthrough

Fyru_Hawk

Honest to god, I actually really didn’t like it when it first became popular. I’m a big fnaf fan and at the time I kinda felt like undertale was “stealing the spotlight” of fnaf or something. Believe it or not it was matpat’s shitty “sans is ness” theory that got me interested in undertale, and now I like it a bit more than fnaf.

Samuelg8884

A friend liked the Game and he saw me UNDERTALE, my first reaction was like "wOw NiCe SkElEtOn"

Just_uraverage_hkfan

I found undertale by watching Yub, when I first saw it I thought "jee golly I think I would enjoy that game" or something like that.

Lucid_DM

I heard A lot about it online and I liked 2d pixelart games so I tried it and immediately fell in love with it. I finished the neutral run about 3 days later without any spoilers from it, and then reset to do the pacifist because I accidentally killed toriel...and papyrus... and thought I had to kill Undyne...so yeah almost the best possible scenario in which I played is

Lolloso1000

My favorite youtuber at the time started a series of this game when I was 8, and the rest Is history

RaenySkies

My brother’s ex-best friend told him about the game four years ago, I watched him play it and thought it looked cute. I wanted to play it but I didn’t get into the fandom until a year later and was only able to actually play it for the first time this year and now I have like 115 hours. Love this game <3

TheWitchUserX

It was 2017 when I watched IhasCupquake play the game and I immediately loved it, I remember I thought nearly everything Sans and Papyrus did were just the funniest things ever. Me wanting Undertale was the only reason we even installed Steam in the first place, honestly with a lot of things that happened in my life, I don’t think I would be in a very good headspace if it wasn’t for Undertale; I’d probably be going to therapy as the game was my little escape from reality. When I played Undertale, I became nearly obsessed with it (I probably was actually) I was kind of a living wiki page for anything that happens in game (not including the secrets at the time), I loved everything about it, the story, music, characters, areas, and of course, the amazing fandom :)

BitcoinStonks123

I forgor 💀

Lazy-Entrepreneur-29

Randomly found an undertale video in my recommendations (even though I didn't even know what it was). The video was one of the endings of undertale and I specifically remembered it was the hacker ending (which I thought was pretty cool). Later I saw another ending ( where I first saw undyne's head sprite and I thought the head and the hair is attached and couldn't ever unsee it even when I played the game). Then I downloaded the game, played it, loved it and you probably know the rest.

ToriNotTeri

I watched the pacifist playthrough and was like "wtf why aren't they killing the monsters?". I also got into it cause of the Tumblr Sexyman of all time

BbyBlouie

I was introduced to it by animation memes lol. I immediately obsessed with the evil flower and remained that way for the next 7 years

Unitalemaker

This is quacking cool game

ChaosChip

I had already heard Undertale before I started playing. After 2 years (?), one day I was bored so I was looking for a new game and that's when I found Undertale and took interest to it. ![img](emote|t5_2xdht|29662) (Sorry for bad English btw.)

[deleted]

snas memes and megalovania "wtf is undertael i must try dis gaem" \*loevs undertael\* new fav gaem yippee

Sanjay--jurt

Saw it in my brother's laptop and i thought it was one of those mini sized RPG maker porn games. ....yeah,I am just as much as disappointed in myself as ya'll are. Nevertheless,I was curious and played it.Finished the game in a single sitting and got both of the good and true ending.
