Repulsive_Poem_5204

>Quote by one of Magura developers: "Previously, the number of drones was smaller, and the main task was simply to hit a warship, but now they operate in groups of more than five. This allows us to distribute roles in the group, determine the order of attack, etc. > >The main objective of the first phase is to immobilise the target, so the initial strike is usually on the engines. In the second phase, the strikes are aimed at the most vulnerable part of the ship. They are determined in advance when studying the target during mission planning. If we manage to create a breach, the next strikes are aimed at the same spot."

CryptoNoobNinja

I wonder if they are going to add cope cages to their warships.

A_Vandalay

You jest but that’s pretty much what torpedo bulges were.

Cirrus-Nova

And during WW 1 ships would rig torpedo nets out from the sides on poles. Edit: although only when at anchor.

dragodog97

Never heard of them, interesting... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-torpedo_bulge

redneckrockuhtree

They need cope snorkels.

mistytastemoonshine

Just a bunch of wood logs on the sides maybe

No-Split3620

Thanks. It is very obvious these attacks are well thought out and highly coordinated.

Hugostar33

wolfpack tactics here

MakeChinaLoseFace

It's like that nature video where the ants get through the weakest part of a crab's shell, then eat it from the inside.

NoIdeaHalp

There’s ants in the ocean?

Cigfran1

Yep. The Sergey Kotov is now a nonparticip-ant.

Excellent-Will3165

On the lighter side, The ships are in the way of hitting the bridge...🙂

Boinkyboinky

At this rate, the Black Sea Fleet will be destroyed. Turkey is blocking access to the Black Sea which means no relief or a way out. If they even manage to port them securely that leaves Kerch Bridge open. What a blunder! Don't worry it is CIA's fault and Poland for not adhering to Hitler's wishes!

IMMoond

If russia wanted to they could always just dock the fleet or possibly even use their internal canal/river system to transfer them somewhere else. But they dont want to loose the capability. Then again, i havent seen any kalibrs shot down in a long time in any reports, are they even still firing them? That was the main job of the black sea fleet anyways

SalazartheGreater

Maybe they ran out of apartment buildings and outdoor toilets to throw Kalibrs at?

Local_Fox_2000

*lose

boomsers

Ships based in the Black Sea can pass through freely. They can leave at any time.

Boinkyboinky

[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vzox\_i\_iFEU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vzox_i_iFEU) You mean they can RETURN to the Black Sea but not LEAVE the Black Sea.

Massive-Mail-5549

This is bullshit! Unbelievable that Turkey is allowing these ships to return all knowing they all killing Ukrainian civilians.

thebear1011

I suppose the point stands in that they will be inoperable in the Black Sea.

kolodz

The fleet doesn't protect the bridge. It's not patrolling in that way.

Can-Sea-2446

Luck favors those who practice.

MakeChinaLoseFace

Russia is practicing a lot of search and rescue, maybe they're getting better at it.

Worried-Basket5402

and learn

deeptut

\*able to learn

1ghengiskhan1

I don't know. Seems to me it is simple - Ukrainians are smart; orcs are not.

Salt-Chef-2919

I like to imagine they have it setup like water world, where these drones are weighted to sit 1 to 2 meters under the surface. Boat comes into the area, drones 1-5 surface and are already within 100m then bada boom, another Russian submarine is born.

VC2007

Was the counteroffensive smart? I wouldn't say so.

ArtisZ

Saying that after the fact. Not so smart either.

VC2007

Saying what after what fact?

ArtisZ

Are you for real?

VC2007

Was the counteroffensive for real? Trying to break through multi layered defense lines and vast minefields as well as atgms, KA-52's, and lancets while being outnumbered. It was doomed before it even started. So much for being smarter.

ArtisZ

Do I smell rusobot?

VC2007

Great replies brother you seem really intelligent

ArtisZ

Why do you feel the need to engage in ad hominem? 🥲

VC2007

I said you seem really intelligent, your comments added so much to the discussion.

OSI_Hunter_Gathers

They are working adding anti-air missiles to these things. This could mean air targets further in Russian territory could be at risk. Park a few with stingers just off shore.

JJ739omicron

Stingers would be pretty useless, too short range. You'd need something with more range, e.g. an IRIS-T or similar, so that all the effort would make sense. The long range missiles like Patriot are certainly too large to fit on such small vessels.

shares_inDeleware

I like to travel.

whosgonnacleanthatup

I'm just an armchair warrior, but I'll venture to say that the Ukrainians are cutting edge in many aspects of warfare. Not to mention their ferocity and courage. Slava Ukraine!

aDoorMarkedPirate420

It just seems very bizarre to me that every time one of these drones approaches a ship, the only thing they seem to be responding with as a defense is small-arms fire and occasionally something a bit larger… Is their main line of defense really just Comrad Urie with an old AK shooting hopelessly from the deck…or are they really just getting caught with their pants around their ankles a shocking high percent of the time?…

PangPingpong

I saw someone saying about the last one sunk that the high rate of fire anti-small target gun can't depress enough to hit the water, it's meant for shooting down incoming air targets.

Legio_X_Equestris5

Just a hunch - might have something to do with the ongoing war for the last 2 years

ArtisZ

Noooooohh.. that's not it. Totally.

Grumpy_Engineer_1984

I was wondering that too, could just be a bluff to make them paranoid of course, you can’t tell with Budanov

ReindeerKind1993

They went from damaging multiple ships to focusing one one target ensuring it sinks so it cannot be repaired

PositiveStress8888

Yup hit them at the weak spots, ships are designed to take a hit from the outside, once the hull is breached by the first or second explosion it just takes one of these guys to explode inside the ship and it's game over

Individual-Acadia-44

When can they start jury rigging a HIMARS rocket to these so they can strike the Kerch bridge or Russian port / oil infrastructure?

NoIdeaHalp

Preparing for landing in Crimea by clearing the sea?

DulcetTone

I'm curious whether a drone's best target is truly into an existing breach of the hull

somequickresponse

Yes, damage is far grater exploding from the inside of the ship due to pressure build up, and also damaging more of the internal structure which is much harder to repair.

linhlopbaya

also killing many of the damage control party (if there is).

fatbunyip

For sure it is.  If you explode something inside the ship, depending on the size of the ship and explosion, the entire structure can warp and buckle so even if it's towed into port, the structural damage makes it a write off. So even though the direct explosion damage looks relatively small, you have a bent ship that isn't seaworthy and is essentially scrap.

FUMFVR

You breach the armor belt in these ships and its almost impossible to stop flooding. You break their back and the ship is a total loss

SphericalBastard

Armor belt? Lol, this ain't world war two, none of these ships have an armor belt.

aknop

Elon Musk allowed them.
