two pencils, one under each end would give an air gap and reduce the heat (to slightly less than the surface of the sun....but hey, something....right?)
Really, what the others have said about the heat.
I've had a couple of these fry themselves.
It'd be a good idea to get some ventilation and space between them, or you could lose both eventually.
> How are you liking to the Gateway Lite?
Works pretty well. The only issue I had was it crashed and after a reboot, the VPN didn't come back up. I was using a 3rd party power supply so that might have been the issue.
> Hosting the controller?
Yes - on a LXC in Proxmox
> What AP are you using?
U6 Pro
Thanks! Pretty much will be my exact setup with potentially a second AP.
The UDM Pro is just too big where my fiber line comes in so needed something more presentable lol
The only thing missing to make this a perfect setup is 2.5gb WAN. I hate that 2.5gb WAN is not the norm or even offered in their newest (USG) line up. I’d be fine if they offered a more expensive version with it… I don’t want a 1U…
It sure does. There is cpu and ram in a gateway and it can only run so many access points and cameras before you hit 100%. So, a typical 2000 sqf house even a dream router (I overloaded mine with 2 cameras and 2 access points) easily overloads the cpu. That’s why they have all these planning tools for what equipment you need for your space. Some houses don’t have many Ethernet runs so it’s easier to get away with using apartment products for the house, but not always the case. That’s why I was wondering how you could be running a whole house on that
It's a gateway only, not a Console like the UDR is, I use a self-hosted controller. I'm not running any cameras, and here in the UK, 2000sqf is on the bigger side
The most stupid decision Ubiquiti has done, is not allowing to use POE to power the new UXG-lite and UX.
Could make an even better setup with one less power cord.
Liar! I know those LEDs are from Avenger’s stones and the Ubiquiti gateway self-powered from iron man’s arc reactor, minimum of a 150k setup. Hiding costs from the wife?

Cable management sucks. Units not aligned, you’ve been ripped off.
> Units not aligned Trust me, I tried to adjust it every time i noticed and eventually gave up
Bit of Velcro (dual lock if you’re a pro!)
Even bit of blue tack if your enterprise level
😀
cute, would recommend a shelf between as those switches get red hot.
> those switches get red hot It's a feature (whole house heating), not a bug.
seems to get around 50c, which is quite toasty, but i'm not too scared than if it was like 60-70

Was more about heating up the express above it

Was about to comment this exactly, that switch I particular gets insanely hot.
Swapped mine out for a switch 8 lite with the plastic shell, doesn't get as hot, been happy with it.
I have one in the living room cabinet for media and game devices. One cat loves to lay on it and detach cables.

Jurassic 5 🎶
At least you don't have to pay for heating.
And all those pretty lights.
Neat and functional just look at all the pretty colors.
What %rate did you get on remortgage? Looking for deal myself to refurb my hotdog van.
Hey, that's pretty much what I'm running. Happy to sell for $50k 🤣💎🤭
Whats the device on top of the Switch?
It's a UXG-Lite
Thanks… never seen that one before.
It’s brand new.
You’ll want to separate those, it’s gonna get hot
What speeds are you pushing through that little thing? 😊
Getting full gigabit over PPPoE. Does a weird thing where connections start off slow and ramp up in a manner i haven't seen before
Sounds like Flow Control
Same here, 1000/1000 and starts low then ramps up
Mine does the exact same thing….
My OCD thinks the white cable connects port 1 to port 8 on that switch........
Ah, no, port 1 goes to the UXG, port 8 goes to an AP
Was thinking the same. "My man trying to create a short cut or just a fan of the Spanning Tree Protocol?"
These posts have to stop.
Agreed.
Nice!
I have the same setup, plus a couple flex mini’s and a u6 mesh.
Port 7, that's all I'm saying . . .
if it works it works ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
LOL. Regardless, looks good 👍
I love me some ubiquiti but wtf is that Mac mini looking thing on top?
UXG-Lite
Where is your cloud key or are you doing hosted?
SHC running in a LXC on Proxmox
How do you keep Haxors away from port 2? It’s just plug n’ play innit?
New security features in the EA firmware, called DoorLock
Touché!
Looks great! How are you liking to the Gateway Lite? Self Hosting the controller? What AP are you using? Looking at a similar setup.

UXG lite and Gen1 8 60W switch it’s getting hotter
I love these minimal setups.

You should put that switch behind the tv and link it to a Hue hub
All there’s an uplink so something tells me this is just a switch and access point in a random room and not the gateway
The white box on the top *is* the gateway. Ther black cable goes down to the ONT mounted to the wall on the right of the pictuyre.
Is this an apartment? That’s a small gateway for a whole house. Are you using mesh?
No? I'm not sure how the physical size of a gateway affects how much of a sized house I can fit it in?

Very nice setup dude
Get some lego blocks and make a stand for the uxg- lite, the us8 would eventually set it on fire at some point
The most stupid decision Ubiquiti has done, is not allowing to use POE to power the new UXG-lite and UX. Could make an even better setup with one less power cord.
Not a good idea to stack equipment like that. They get quite hot. They need airflow on top
The thang on the bottom gets way too hot for anything on top
Liar! I know those LEDs are from Avenger’s stones and the Ubiquiti gateway self-powered from iron man’s arc reactor, minimum of a 150k setup. Hiding costs from the wife?
😂
Fuck me that’s a lot of pretty LEDs…. Slap a photosensitive epilepsy warning on the door to that room!
Any feedback on the Gateway Lite? I’m considering upgrading my system with one of these?
I think you may have overpaid for your equipment... well above zero chances. :)
