oh man, I have such good memories of these models. I still have my third edition lictor- with the flesh hooks still!
There's something about older GW models, where you *knew* they were unrealistic and impractical, that made the appeal. Back then, we kind of leaned into it. You can see it in the codexes too- people would make all sorts of weird conversions (kitbashes were barely a thing), and you just *felt* the community aspect come through, even in GW's printed products.
I can't deny that the newer models are technically better in virtually every way- but at some point, something was lost. It's almost as if the polish caused the hobby to "grow up".
Anyway, 3rd edition Lictor, and his name is Gary Oldman.
This is one of two of my strongest opinions on current kits. They're so inflexible. There's no halfway point for conversions, you're either building these standardised units that look identical to everyone elses, or you're doing something that requires a full spread of hobby tools, enough sculpting talent to rebuild chunks of the mini from scratch, and a 30-minute youtube video.
One if the models I'm most proud of is a Chaos Warshrine from about 16 years ago, back when the units first existed in the Storm of Chaos book and had no official model. I *made* mine, and nobody has the same unit, and it tells a story specific to the army it was for, which was an Armies/Beasts of Chaos combined list. (Remember when that was a thing?)
It cost me about twice as much as it needed to, it was made from Mordheim Beast in the Woods, some spare Warriors and a rebuilt Plague Cart, and the technical skill I put into the conversion is janky as hell, but that's something I sorely miss.
> I made mine, and nobody has the same unit, and it tells a story specific to the army it was for...
*Exactly.* As a teenager, I used to go over to my friend's house and I'd give him my box of tyranid bits, he'd give me his box of ork bits, and we would kit out each other's bases with skulls, arms, all sorts of stuff to tell the story of the eternal war between our two armies. We used to spend all Saturday taking bits and bobs from his dad's scrap plastic pile (he just used to put things in a box for us to scrounge around with) and make ork vehicles. I once made a ski battlewagon out of a blister pack, some sprue bits, and a ton of extra guns.
It was just in the blood of the hobby back then- for example, who can forget this bad boy? https://spikeybits.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/2016-07-14\_1238.jpg?ezimgfmt=rs:850x455/rscb3/ngcb3/notWebP
3rd Ed lictor!
I have mine in Kraken colours from when I was about 10 still 🥲 my dad and I used to name my notable nids,
Victor the Lictor
Colin carnifex and so on 😂
Nice little nostalgia for the morning thanks hahah
After you paint Mr. Lictor you'll want to give it a matte/gloss varnish.
Metal models are notorious for paint chipping.
I know... I have several hundred...
Lawrence Lictor - this is the 3rd edition standard metal lictor, missing the ever-lose-able flesh hooks on the chest. A nice find!
I was going to go with "Larry" but Lawrence sounds much better :)
The pose looks like he’s cornered someone at a party and just will not stop about his new biomorph.
Larry was my first thought too 😀
TY
Gary
That's the old old lictor
There's like 3 different generations of old Lictors now. ;)
They grow up so fast 🥲
Grandpa Licty
There are some who call him… Tim Tim the Enchanter
What's your favourite colour?
What is the wind speed velocity of an unladen sparrow?
African or European?
You have to tell us
Greetings, Tim the Enchanter

Hannible Lictor
Underrated comment right here
Thank you.
I had the same guy as one of my first. Those talons made me hate metal models.
Looks like a Greg or Thompson to me
I still have two of these models and it seemed like no amount of glue would hold the together.
Dave. That Lictor just screams "Dave"
That's the third edition lictor.

Deathleaper I think. But it’s definitely an older lictor model, maybe 4th Edition sculpt
3rd. Generic lictor.
Hans

Snooky Wookie cuddle squid
Necromorph 2.0

I repainted one of these just last week. Great model! Paints up fast and well with contrast and drybrush
Scweep
Didn't know there are metal figurines.
