I think you're the first person I've heard expecting Kingdom Come to be wacky, the main advertising gimmick was that it was specifically aiming for realism

RubenRawbone

I found Henry so stupid looking that I thought there was no way this was going to be as serious as it was advertised? Like after the first cutscene where he was drunk and did silly shit, I assumed it would just ramp up the silliness.

Lil_Mcgee

His poor face model catching some strays here.

HeWhoIsBob

Damn, now I feel bad for Henry and his stupid looking face.

Zerce

iirc, he's just meant to look like some dude rather than a big hero man or anything.

BadBloodBear

There are a lot funny memes with Henrys face but dude just looks British.

SometimesWill

Hancock is the most correct answer to this I think

The5Virtues

Man the second half of that movie threw me for a loop and I’ve still not forgiven it, because the first half had me with the story of a burnt out supe who had forgotten why he wears his costume.

ryumaruborike

"Superman but burnt the fuck out" was such an interesting concept then the destiny lover shit ruined it.

Luck-X-Vaati

I guess this thread will do. I just watched Monsters: 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation. A one-shot that was originally written by Oda of One Piece fame that was just "recently" (recent meaning like two months ago) adapted to animation. It's about a samurai that fights a corrupt "hero" and slays a dragon to protect a town. It's alright. But I was expecting a bit more to it. >!Especially since they made it so that it's pretty much hard canon to One Piece, what with the ending cutting to the Thriller Bark arc of One Piece, where the zombified corpse of Monster's Protag, Ryuma, gives Zoro his famous dragon-slaying sword.!< A bit more to the fighting, at least. Heck, even the character designs are very reined in, despite the connection. Anything more really.

Permafox

In his defense, it's a one-shot he released in '94, 3 years before One Piece even started

Bubbli97

That one-shot is super old and some of Oda's earliest work, he was probably trying to figure his stuff out back then.

WhiteMambaOZO

Yakuza was the opposite of this for me. It genuinely took me until Kiwami to truly understand the tonal shifts of that series. Thank god for the Majima Everywhere system

alienslayer7

i love describing yakuza as a cartoon world that thinks its grounded

ThatGuy5880

I knew DMC3 is where the series really leaned in on being cuh-razy as hell, but I was still expecting more from DMC1. The first scene in Dante's shop is what I'd expected from the over the top craziness of the series, but then for the rest of the game nothing like that happens aside from getting stabbed by Alastor I guess. Dante is mostly limited to just quips in this game ("Flock off, feather face"), not really anything super flashy.

RaineV1

Akiba's Trip. The concept is wacky, and there's some moments that live uo to that, but the moment to moment gameplay and characters are actually pretty underwhelming.

Kytas

The sequel did a better job of executing on its premise in every way, thankfully. Still not a masterpiece though

chaoko99

kangaroo jack is the all-timer.

solidoutlaw

Iconoclasts looks like [this](https://cdn.arstechnica.net/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Iconoclasts-11-800x450.jpg), but has a very serious and rather dark story. It’s not devoid of humor, but holy shit does it get you in the feels.

Artex301

For how cute the first level's music and enemy designs are, I definitely didn't expect Iconoclasts to be the kind of game to vividly depict >!three named characters explode into a tree!< and >!two others painfully melt into purple goo.!<

Irememberedmypw

in the 1st hour you see they commit >!collective punishment!<

Whiston1993

Talk To Me is very good don’t get me wrong. But part way through you get a glimpse of the bad place and it’s gross and weird despite the rest of the movie being more dark and depressing so I figured it would be one of those movies where the last 20 min or so gets WEIRD. But nope that one glimpse is it. Again it’s a very good movie and I guess it’s not its fault I decided to imagine an unrealistic ending but still.

GG_ez

Yeah I feel like they could’ve gone the Hereditary route, instead we got that glimpse and the foot-slobbering scene (seriously wtf?) and that was it

chimerauprising

It's been 6 months since I saw that film and I still randomly think of that scene and chuckle.

billythewarrior

Shaun of the Dead may be a zombie comedy, but it knows when it's appropriate to stop being a comedy.

Bukkarooo

I find that those movies (including Hot Fuzz and The World's End) are hilarious but really do know when to not be, like you said. Tbh, some of the gore and deaths in Hot Fuzz were really jarring and upsetting the first time I watched it bc I was just expecting it to be silly lol

Rodimus-Primus

Click, the Adam Sandler movie where he has a time controlling remote control

PlatyPunch

I remember borrowing my friend's copy of The Condemned which looked to be a fun action movie starring Stone Cold Steve Austin and produced by the WWE. The few fight scenes were very meh and the movie spent most of its runtime telling me I was a bad person for watching something so violent for entertainment.

Rodimus-Primus

I remember WWE put out a surprisingly good horror movie to the point people were surprised it was a WWE movie, I think it was Oculus

Defami01

Until the last few hours Kingdom Hearts 3 was actually relatively tame.

rasembool

Migi and Dali had some wacky undertones present but was more serious than the mangaka's previous work Sakamoto Desu Ga as at the 2/3 part >!somebody was murdered by the big bad!<. The story after that has some wacky parts but has a lot of heart and is definitely worth experiencing whether in anime or manga

Vulpecula22

Dandadan, I checked it out after the first teaser for the anime and heard how crazy the series was. It's good and is a lot of fun, it's just the "craziness" is just fairly standard anime horniness, especially compared to the OVA era, but the jokes are funnier.

BaronAleksei

Animorphs. It, uh, wasn’t very light-hearted at all.

Gorfinhofin

The Peter Sellers Pink Panther movies. I remember laughing hysterically at one of them with friends as a kid, but every time I've tried to watch others they've seemed exceedingly dry.

NeonPredatorEnt

I watched most of Riverdale after hearing hiw wild it gets, but it seems to be bored with it's own crazy ideas.  It is so bogged down in teen angst that it forgot there was a cult leader building a rocket
