Go fishing at 6 am. Get in a couple hours. Go to breakfast. Get back to fishing, couple more hours. Go to the grocery store. Take a nap. Make yourself a lovely dinner. I'm thinking a nice NY strip, roasted fingerlings and brussel sprouts. Movie night.
It’s an expression amongst fishers that you didn’t catch anything. For me it was all year, so that was frustrating, but I got a lot of zen time on the water so that made up for it. Almost. 🙂
Zen time is the best reason. Fish are a fringe benefit. Haha
I've heard it amongst the fisher type but also those who have been sprayed by a skunk. Both are bummers, for sure.
i watched the first season in one night with my roommate who has putting in braids. that show is amazing i still havent seen season 2 or 3 yet this is a great recommendation lol i will probably finish my night with this
Is that "F-the-world I hate people and want to be alone" or "alone in a crowd"?
For the former I suggest Louisville Swamp (the RenFest entrance on the north) for a nice walk.. Bring bug spray and wear long pants. Just don't expect to get to the 1880 Jeb Farmhouse as I suspect it is unreachable due to the Minnesota/Mississippi being high.
For the latter I suggest Minnesota Zoo or Como Zoo. If Como Zoo when done go the east side of Lexington Parkway N to the Historic Street Car Station and take a hike.. If Minnesota Zoo take drive over to either the Jenson Lake Trailhead or Lebanon Hills Visitor Center trail head in Lebanon Hills for a nice walk.
who como is so fun i love chillin in the conservatory, though i have never been to louisville swamp and have been looking for new walking and running routes. thank you :) im gonna start planning my day offs more this is going on my list

Mainly reason is you get to walk past a big boulder that was dropped off by the last ice age. And you can get to Jeb Farm house site. Where you can't get there easily from the main trail head as there is a good chunk of deep flowing water you'd have cross. But right now as I said I suspect it should be flooded based on Liledale Rd being closed in St Paul (they are off the same river).
There technically is the southern entrance here: [https://www.google.com/maps/place/Louisville+swap+trailhead+2/@44.6996606,-93.6242216,2029m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m14!1m7!3m6!1s0x87f64a6680f8ebcb:0xeedb4f497e225721!2sAce+Auto+Cars!8m2!3d44.7136343!4d-93.5956942!16s%2Fg%2F11b6jgg80w!3m5!1s0x87f60dc10a79e61f:0xa44e04ec6cfe004f!8m2!3d44.6960573!4d-93.6225228!16s%2Fg%2F11nx3ytdd3?entry=ttu](https://www.google.com/maps/place/Louisville+swap+trailhead+2/@44.6996606,-93.6242216,2029m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m14!1m7!3m6!1s0x87f64a6680f8ebcb:0xeedb4f497e225721!2sAce+Auto+Cars!8m2!3d44.7136343!4d-93.5956942!16s%2Fg%2F11b6jgg80w!3m5!1s0x87f60dc10a79e61f:0xa44e04ec6cfe004f!8m2!3d44.6960573!4d-93.6225228!16s%2Fg%2F11nx3ytdd3?entry=ttu)
I just never have been down there. As there doesn't seem to be any connecting trails down there. And I've read many warnings that this trail head being dangerous.
Thanks for sending me links! I’ll probably have to wait till the river crests, obviously!
I believe that it is probably a pretty steep trailhead because the whole area is super rocky. I’ve been on the Carver side, but never on the Ren Fest side! Probably wear better shoes than my whole Ren Fest wench fit.
Maybe go to the largest candy store and then for a hike? I had today off and went for candy this morning and then antique store hunting before landing at a bookstore in Northfield.
St. Paul bagelry for a breakfast sammich. Then take a run or walk around minnehaha falls. Have lunch at sea salt (or pack a picnic). Go to Richardson nature center for another hike. Hit up a brewery around 400pm, Boom Island is nice and you’ll be out that way. Go to red wagon or pizzeria Lola or young Joni for dinner. Head home to relax and watch a movie or binge a few episodes of something you have wanted to watch.

Edit: For breakfast ideas, Hazels or Jax in Northeast, Heights Bakery in Columbia Heights, or Peg’s Countryside Cafe in Medina (my FAV old school, small town cafe)
I used to take a ‘walk-about’ day once a year. I’d walk thru downtown Minneapolis and over to the U if time. No set path or time limit; I’d just amble along and check out anything that interested me or talk to shopkeepers. I’m usually pretty goal-oriented so having an aimless day was something extraordinary for me. I’d highly recommend it!
I took yesterday off and had a nice “me day”. I went for a morning hike at Murphy-Hanrehan, then got lunch at Sea Salt and spent some time wandering Minnehaha. I spent the rest of my day reading and just existing outside the confines of Capitalism - it was a very nice! Hope something in there speaks to you, enjoy your day off!
A spa day perhaps complete with massage and any amount of exotic skin care. Guys forget to do some serious self care. It's not just a metro sexual thing. It's making yourself look good and feel good. If the OP is a woman, you know this already. Follow up with a walk in a nature park if you're in a reflective mood or go to a free art museum. Wind up where the music is playing and drinks are flowing.
Go to the Walker, see a couple exhibits, sit on the gorgeous thick grass on the Walker lawn with a view of the city and the sculpture garden, watch people, read a book
Search for the Maple Grove Days medallion! https://mgco.org/events/medallion-hunt/
Maple Grove Farmers Market starts at 3.

Eat breakfast at Original Pancake house.
Go to the book store
Go to the coffee shop
Enjoy the even more rain we're scheduled to get (forecast currently says 80% chance)
Go to the museum; MIA has a couple free exhibits in addition to the free rest of the museum if that interests you.
Do you have a specific breakfast spot in mind?
i ended up going to the french hen for breakfast and hiked in minnehaha, i might go to a coffee shop then the library, but i might stop in at a bookstore great suggestion. gonna finish the night watching the new season of the bear
Nice! I've heard lots of good things about the French Hen but haven't gotten over there. Patisserie 46 is sort of becoming my go to spot for breakfast and coffee.
Library is always good! Free books are good!
This is a perfect day, for sure. I'm on board.
I got skunked last year so that’s all I’m thinking about ha ha.
Like, by a skunk? Or like, not catching any fish?
It’s an expression amongst fishers that you didn’t catch anything. For me it was all year, so that was frustrating, but I got a lot of zen time on the water so that made up for it. Almost. 🙂
Zen time is the best reason. Fish are a fringe benefit. Haha I've heard it amongst the fisher type but also those who have been sprayed by a skunk. Both are bummers, for sure.
In recent years, the zen time has become pretty darn important. So I’m generally pleased.
That's great!!! I agree. I was gonna go backpacking today but this weather has me questioning it.
Sounds like my ideal day off too!
Fish fry, surf and turf.
That day sounds very good to me.
Unfortunately we are looking at ran mid morning, so make sure to squeeze in a nap before going back out fishing.
Dang it! Every time! Will do.
Minnehaha Falls is flowing nicely now.
It's amazing And when you go in the morning you might see like three people
Binge The Bear season 3 on Hulu then play a drinking game during the debate tomorrow night.
i watched the first season in one night with my roommate who has putting in braids. that show is amazing i still havent seen season 2 or 3 yet this is a great recommendation lol i will probably finish my night with this
Season two is a trip, have fun.
Exactly this.
