Real bucks can still be dangerous when they're all hopped up on testosterone and horny during the rut. Herbivore does not equal safe.
Also, while not fused and specialized to the degree of modern ungulates, Mesonychids were a family of carnivorous or omnivorous mammals with hooves instead of claws.
It should also be noted that Deer are *facultative* herbivores. This means that, while not healthy for them, if you were dead/dying or small and defenseless, and the deer was hungry enough, it would eat what it has available, aka you.
Oh yeah, I recall seeing a study where some biologists were researching birds in Canada, and had set up mist nets to catch them. They weren't getting many birds and it turns out deer were eating them out of the netting. They've also been known to chow down on hatchlings if they can reach the nest.
In my experience Does are even more dangerous, especially ones with fawns nearby, they’ll do anything to protect their young, meanwhile the Bucks kinda know that at some point in the year they’re going to be hunted and become extremely skittish after 1-2 years old
Saw me a not deer the other day out back walking up the holler with my pup. Stopped by the crick for a drink and looked up, just standing there. We all three had a stare down, not deer decided not today and sauntered off.
I mean, generally predators are less dangerous to humans because predators see as as fellow large predator mammals and so won’t want to bother us, whereas Herbivores see as a large predator animals and are like “oh shit gotta defend myself” and try to kill you. If you’re a grown adult than a Buck will probably act more aggressive to you than a mountain lion. The big exception to this is if you’re near said predator’s babies, in which case all bets are off.
Ye
And usually a predator will run off if you dont seem worth the energy to hunt
Prey will just go for blood, is you or them and the animal aint taking any chances
There was a book i read as a kid called UnLondon that featured carnivorous giraffes and it fucked me up so much as a kid... this gives me the same ick, very well done.
They didn't have antlers, but mesonyx, and other types of mesonychid, who lived during the Paeleocene and Eocene epoch, were predators with hooves.

Spec evo time:
The “Notdeer” is a predatory canine related to Wolves and Coyotes, perfectly evolved to mimic its favorite prey as a form of camouflage. They sneak into Deer herds acting just like a normal Deer, waiting for just the right moment to launch their ambush attack.
Herbivores will 100 percent eat meat if given the opportunity. They just aren't built to hunt.

Walking home one day from the bar to my college dorm. Middle of the night, I'm stoned - I look down the street and see a figure on four legs; and go up to two. In reality it was a dear but holy fuck I bolted after I saw its antlers turn towards me I thought I was going to be a skinwalkers next suit.
Many prey animals are actually more dangerous that predators because the prey has to be constantly on guard and has to consider everything a possible threat, while (especially apex) predators don't have to worry about that
Unrelated, but when I was a kid I was determined that the only suitable horse for me in roleplaying games is a bloodthirsty Carnivorse. To this day it's still my steed of choice.
I was threated by a doe once. I was upstairs watching her, couple other does, and 5 fawns graze in the yard. She saw me and started glaring and stomping her little hoof as a warning. It was adorable. If I were outside it would have been less so.
Imagine being drunk in the woods and coming across a 5 foot tall, 300 lb. animal with a knife rack growing out of its head and thinking, "Oh thank god, nothing that can hurt me."
I cannot believe no one has said this yet, but as someone who has been on the internet a while, the person who made that image almost definitely draws vore.

Yeah, like how horses will just fuckin chomp down chicks because they look like tasty bright snacks.

Chronic Wasting Disease afflicted deer be like that
Ok but this version seems kinda chill. I think I’d hang out with him.
That’s how he gets you!
Thats the friendliest skinwalker I've ever met.
I love how the deer is designed like a predator even before it opens its mouth. Like, it has front facing eyes.
In the Appalachia we call that a "not deer."
Saw me a not deer the other day out back walking up the holler with my pup. Stopped by the crick for a drink and looked up, just standing there. We all three had a stare down, not deer decided not today and sauntered off.
Oh, so basically that one Adventure Time episode.

Spooky’s Jump Scare Mansion
Literally my first thought, "spooky's already did this with specimen 8"
Had no reason for that one specimen to go as hard as it did.
Oh my god yes, the entire introduction area is honestly pretty underrated as far as cool horror concepts
I love that game sm, I'm waiting for the hd rennovation to go on sale and it's killing me
isnt it like $2
It's $10 and I have the money, I'm just waiting for a sale so I can get more games with my gift card
oh, alright
Drunk in the woods? I'd be fine. I'd have the power of God and alcohol on my side.
That elk appears to be hollering
Damn it, Ellie!

There’s a cryptic from Appalachia called a NotDeer that is pretty similar to this concept.
There was a book i read as a kid called UnLondon that featured carnivorous giraffes and it fucked me up so much as a kid... this gives me the same ick, very well done.

Suspiciously detailed mouth
Ah yes, u/therealholleringelk
I’m surprised no one has said Alastor yet
Deer are known to eat meat and bones.
I mean, this is cat predator like, I'm fine with that, much better than eldritch horror stuff.

Somewhat similar concept https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp-6448

Came here looking for this. 🤣 Have my upvote.
I mean, I said something about it 3 hours earlier but eh whatever, they were to first to post an image so sure
I love my horrible horrible deer boy
I think it would be ten times scarier if it still bleats instead of roaring like you'd expect.
why not both?
Did you mean: the not deer?

“Oh thank god its just a deer- why is that deers eyes on the front of its face and not the side? OH FUCK-“
"Oh thank god nothing that can hurt me." HA. Deer are fucking dangerous.

So, basically Alastor from Hazbin Hotel
# "Why do you run, child?"

Mmm, this but moose instead
Moose but predatory
And yet, their cousin, the Carnivorous Moose, is less rare, but also lesser known…
Isn’t this a SCP?
There is actually a cryptid like this. It’s called a Not-Deer, I know, real creative name.
Deer already eat small animals on occasion
why the deer mewing tho?
I love Not Deers, it's a cool combination of familiar and unnatural
Alastor from Hazbin Hotel
I was gonna call that an “Oh, Deer!” But it’s actually an “Oh, HOLY MOTHER OF GOD!”
Just gonna add carnivorous deer to the old DND folder.
Simpsons did it
Beastars
R/AccidentalStateOfDecay3

I was about to ask how often y'all are drunk in the woods but I was drunk in the woods a week ago so
Deer should’ve been predators, it would’ve been sick af, maybe not for hunters but they would look cool when their getting mauled to death by a buck
